Questions on exporting and the trash folder?

A friend has i Photo 5 on here iMac (older) and I was trying to copy some of the pictures out of the Trash folder, it wouldn't do it. Well it would copy the file number but it would read zero kilobites. Not sure why this happening, but even in the trash folder it was saying how large each picture was. So I moved them back into the Libary folder and you could view them small version but couldn't enlarge them etc.. I tried to copying them and got the same result, says the information is there but if you try to open the pictures in "picture viewer" or import them into another iPhoto folder you get an error reading. The only thing I can think of is trying to download her whole iPhoto file and then going from there. Any suggestions? Thanks, looks like these where taken with a Cannon Powershot 3 series, camera is about a year old.

If you fooled around with the folders in finder, you might have done a slight amount of damage to the iPhoto library... if not you can try rebuilding the library:
Hold down the Option and Command (Apple) Keys and open iPhoto, a window should appear asking if you would like to rebuild etc., check them all... hopefully this will get the library working again.
If you're only going to copy a few pics, you can drag them out of iphoto to your desktop and then into whatever device you're using to save into. Or you can export the photos using the share > export function...
You can also copy the entire iPhoto library to an external and open that library in your copy of iPhoto...

    Thanks.

    It's a POP account. I decided to clean up my mailbox today after noticing the computer was real slow after USA Today started sending their daily top stories with new graphics. Also before I noticed the problem with mail deletion - two things happened. 1) I updated security sofware as prompted by Apple and 2) downloaded Mackeeper and went throught some preliminary scans but did not buy their package. Thanks forn nstaying with me.

  • I have an older I-Pad and have daily recurring spam.  Always the same and some going back to January. I delete them every day and they delete them in the trash folder but they keep coming back.  How do I get rid of them ?

    I have an older I-pad and have recurring spam. How do I stop it ???  I delete it every day and then delete the trash folder but it keeps coming back.  Thanks.

    For those kind of mails, unsubscribing doesn't work. they're breaking the law trying to scam you, they're not going to respect unsubscribe. Unsubscribe only works with real companies. Such as unsubscribing from Gap company mail etc. Spammers can actually use the 'unsubscribe' as a confirmation 'hey, there's a real person here, hit em hard'
    I'm not really familiar with g-mail, but most mail programs have filters you can set up, such as telling it 'everything with dating in the title, send to the trash' etc.
    You can do some research on that or have someone help you with some hands on help.
    If that e-mail has ever been used for e-greeting cards, or given to enter contests, etc, your address is out there. You will never get rid of it totally.
    If it's really, really bad, sometimes what you have to do is abandon the address and get a new one and only give it out to people you want to contact you. Don't  enter it on websites, or use e-cards or things like that that are spam collection mechanisms.

  • Question about the trash folder

    Is there a way to find out where a document that is in the trash folder originally came from without using the put back option? Normally this would not be a problem since the majority of files that go into the trash are the ones that I told it to delete but if I have a program that puts a file in the trash bin after the program exits, is there a way to see where the program in the trash bin came from. This doesn't happen very often but every now and then if I see something in the trash that I didn't put there, I would like to know where it came from. The files are usually files that can be deleted anyway but it would be nice if there was a way to see the original path. Obviously the original path is still there somewhere because you have the put back option so it has to know where it came from in order to put it back.

    That might be in a logfile.   Your Console application might help.
    If not, someone in the Developer forum might know:

    I have searched Finder, Trash and the applications folder but i can't find where it is kept.  I want to put the icon for Dashboard back in the dock - how can i do this?

    The combo update may replace anything you have inadvertently deleted.
    Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1
    You can reapply it over the top of any previously downloaded version.  I see that your profile says 10.6.8.
    Then software update to pick up any new security, iTunes updates.

  • How do you disable the shortcut key in Mail that deletes all mail in the trash folder

    Is there a way to disable the shortcut key in Mail in Mountain Lion that deletes all mail in the Trash folder in all accounts: <shift><command><delete> ?
    I did it once by mistake and it deleted all my trash - it is very difficult to restore when there are thousands of messages in various emaiil accounts.
    Thanks

    While you can't (so far as I know) remove it - you can assign a different (& less likely to be used accidentally) one via System Preferences - Keyboard - Shortcuts.
    Go there, create a new one (or 2) for Mail only, and give it the exact name(s) if the menu item(s) in question, capitalisation & ... included.
    Below is on 10.6, but the idea's the same

  • My local folders appear to be in the trash folder, how do i move them?

    I recently got a new PC and migrated my email folders. Since then I have noticed many emails seem to have disappeared when I look for them in trash or sent. I just noticed that my local folders appear to be in the trash folder: when I minimize "trash" they disappear. I'm thinking this may be the reason I keep losing emails but I can't figure out how this happened or to move the folders out of the trash.

    No problem Bob...glad to be of assistance. To change the titles, you can either do this also when you have selected File>Get Info & then select on the "Info" tab or by clicking on the title of each Movie/TV Show in your library.

    You don't need iDVD unless you are going to make DVDs. If you are just trying to share files, iDVD won't help you at all.
    What you want to do is in iMovie, choose File/Share/File, and export that way. It creates an .mp4 file that should be readable on Macs or Windows.
    You could also File/Share/YouTube if you don't mind posting them to YouTube, because of course YouTube videos are watchable by any Mac or Windows computer made in the last 10 years.

  • How can I see what is in the Trash folder?

    When I open the Trash folder, all I see is a gray bar with "Trash" on the left and a button marked "Empty" on the right.  I know I have items in the trash, but I can't see them.  It used to be when I opened the trash, I saw a list of all items in the trash.  What has changed??  Thanks.

    Your trash bin may be damaged and it's deleting items as soon as you put them in.
    Go to /Applications/Utilities/ folder and launch Terminal. At the prompt, copy and paste the following command into the Terminal window.
    sudo rm -rf ~/.Trash
    Press Return. You will be asked to enter your admin password. As you type, your password will not be returned, so be sure to enter it correctly. Press Return again. Log out and back in or restart.

  • What is the keyboard shortcut for emptying the trash? I've tried "command-click on the trash folder", but nothing happens.

    I've looked at the articles on keyboard/mouse click shortcuts; and the only reference I saw for emptying the trash said that right clicking on the trash folder would bring up a menu of options and that one of these would be to empty the trash.
    Not the case.
    I'm using Thunderbird 24.3.0 on an mac running OS 10.9.2 . When I use the mac version of right click (that is -- control click) I get the following menu options: Open in New tab * Open in New Window * Rename * Favorite Folder * Properties
    Empty the trash is not among the options. Since this is such a fundamental operation, I would think a keyboard or mouse-click shortcut would be obvious. What am I missing?
    I should add that we manage several email accounts and that they all use "Trash on Local Folders".

    Thank you for the reply. Sadly, it didn't work.
    On a mac, alt and option share the same key. I tried using option/alt in combination with command, control and shift (+f) -- but none worked. None of these combinations did anything at all. Is that a clue? Could a plugin be causing the problem? In search of a resolution, I deactivated most of my Plugins. Those left are:
    * Adobe Acrobat NPAPi Plug-in
    * AdobeExManDetect 1.1.0
    * Flip4Mac Windows Media Plugin
    * Jave Applet Plug-in Java 7 Update 51
    * QuickTime Plug-in 7.7.3
    * Sharepoint Browser Plug-in 14.3.1.
    * Shockwave Flash 12.0.0.70
    Don't know what they do exactly. I have no extensions.
    Does this help?

  • Why can't I delete all incoming messages at once without having to select each one first. It can be done while in the "Trash" folder, but not the "IN" folder.

    Why can't I delete all incoming messages at once without having to select each one first. It can be done while in the "Trash" folder, but not the "IN" folder.

    Well, what I see happing is this: Tapping edit and checking the first message brings up the “Delete” option. Holding it until the red message “Delete Message” appears, then letting go of the red button and tapping the checked button makes the “Delete Message” message go away. The checked message is still checked with an option to delete just that message. Tap the checked message again just cancels the whole process and I’m back to square one.
    However, if I check a message that is part of a thread of messages and tap Delete, I have the option of deleting all messages in the thread.
    Perhaps the fact that I’m using the 3rd generation of the iPad is the problem, but your suggestion isn’t working.

  • My deleted files do not go into the Trash Folder

    Deleted emails do not go into the Trash Folder even though my configurations are correct and I have selected Trash Folder for my deleted files. Is something wrong with TB? This just started happening recently.
    Also the auto-fill is not working correctly. When I start to type an email addr in Compose, non-related email addrs appear. I know that TB uses the 'within' range as opposed to 'starts with' but that still does not explain my problem. If I enter 'h' into the To: field, email addresses that do not contain the letter h anywhere (first name, last name, email addr, etc.) appear.
    Please help.

I cannot find a trash folder on Photos. What happened to all the photos I had in the trash folder in iPhoto?

    It's not calle Recently Deleted and is reached via the File ➙ Show Recently Deleted menu option.
    There you can the remove them from the library or return them to the library.
