Questions on getting BT Infinity in apartment

Hello,
I am considering moving into a new build apartment in Manchester, and have some questions regarding the possibility of getting fibre optic broadband there.
Using the online checker, the post code brings up a positive result for the availability of Infinity, with other properties in the area able to get it (the property I am interested in isn't listed yet).
As I understand it, this indicates the road-side cabinet will be connected to the exchange by fiber-optic cable. Given that the "up to 76 mbps" service is an FTTC product, and not FTTP, am I right in saying that there is no need for any fiber-optic or special coaxial cable connection from the cabinet to the apartment itself to get BT Infinity? Would it be sufficient to simply have an ordinary copper phone line between the cabinet and the apartment if I'm happy to settle for an FTTC product (the developer states the apartments in the block are all fitted with standard BT phone lines)?
If so, would the modem simply plug into the standard BT phone socket just as an ordinary ADSL modem would?
I'm assuming that if there is no need for fibre-optic cable between the cabinet and the apartment with an FTTC product, then there would be no need for any modifications to the wiring of the property or any additional installations.
Finally, in case I decide in the future to go with an FTTP product like BT's "up to 300 mbps" service, does anyone have any experience at all with getting the appropriate cabling fitted to apartments? My main concern is that the apartment is on the top (third) floor of the block.
Thanks!
Odai.

yes it is the normal cooper pair from the cabinet to your home with FTTC
the only change to your internal wiring would be the master phone socket would be changed for a new filtered fibre one then the Openreach modem is connected to that and your home hub is then connected to the modem a full fibre ho home service is somewhat different and you would need to consult BT over that one

  • Getting BT Infinity for my block of flats?

    Hi,
    I have read a lot of post about people confused about why they can't get BT Infinity when their neighbours can. My question is similar but maybe a bit more specific.
    So I live in Crystal Palace, London. My flat is part of a 1920's development (approximately 64 flats within 4 blocks) located away from the street.
    All the other properties on my street and the next which it turns into can get 'BT Infinity' (this includes all the regular houses, a 1960's block and even the Church and local community hall opposite.
    I have checked the 'Openreach' site as well as the 'FTTC checker' where you can find your nearest exchange and they all use the same as my address but we are the only ones that don't receive 'Fiber to the Cabinet'.
    Is this a specific issue with my block of flat rather than the exchange and is it possible for my management company find out if there are any problems with the building like old wiring that needs to be updated etc?
    I've exhaust the internet and this forum, so if anyone can add anything that would be much appreciated.
    Many thanks
    Tom

    send an email to this address [email protected]
    openreach will email you back but may take a weekor so and give you information on your line and if infinity will be available and estimated date
    giving your phone number and cabinet number

  • Can I get BT Infinity in my appartment?

    Last week work started on installing BT Infinity to our estate. I live in an appartment and the tubing that the fibre comes down was installed to the BT floor box just outside my appartment. Does anyone know if I'll be able to get BT Infinity living in an appartment? Also does it look like it will be Fibre to our BT floor box then copper wiring to the appartment? And what speeds could I get up to if this is the case?
    Many Thanks

    Hi BuzzRog,
    I should have said to use the address checker here https://www.btwholesale.com/includes/adsl/main.html .  Just enter your postcode.  If a DSLAM FTTC cabinet is installed or in the process of being installed in that postcode area then the DSLAM cabinet appears on the list of addresses within that postcode area.

  • Problems Getting BT Infinity Installed

    Hi all,
    Anyone got any advice??
    I have been going through a home move.
    I was originally taking my number to Virgin but they cancelled the order and did not release my phone number for keeping with BT.  I rang BT to do the homemove and the order was ordered up and everything processed, a couple of days after the order was placed the order got cancelled, with no word from BT advising me, I had booked the day off for the install of both my line and broadband.
    The router did not arrive two days before so I rang BT and they said that Wholsale had cancelled the order because the number was not available, so another order was placed with a new phone number, the router arrived next day however the appointment was now rescheduled for 5 days later.
    Four days later the phone line went active which was Monday just gone.  The engineer was coming to install infinity yesterday (Tuesday), however when I looked online on Sunday it said an engineer does not require access to your premises etc.  this I know is rubbish as OpenReach need to change the faceplate etc...  So I thought the whole thing had cancelled down again.  As I say the phone line went active and the online information returned to saying and engineer will come on Tuesday.  I also rang BT to confirm this information and they confirmed that someone will definitely be there between 8 and 1.
    So Tuesday came and it is 12.30 and no sign of any engineer, I rang BT and they said someone should be there but they will check with the engineers and they said that they cancelled the job.  I am now waiting for a phonecall from "the Diary Team" to schedule an appointment which could take up to 24 hours to get the call.
    Where would I stand if I said just cancel the order and let me go elsewhere, I realise it is all OpenReach that does the install irrelevant of where I go but I am not sure BT are doing enough to expedite the order.  I have been happy with BT for the last 4-5 years but trying to get Superfast Broadband appears to be extremely monotonous and slow.
    BT INFINITY (Hopefully)

    Ok well after 2 months of getting BT Infinity installed, (due to admin problems), all is working great. Getting Bandwidth of about 30Mbs great.
    The problem is online gaming, you need split second timing to play the game, so that means low latency.
    Over 2 weeks or so its got worse and worse, 150ms and above it is un-playable online. I am getting on average about 250-300ms at night, gaming.
    On my old adsl wired bt broadband I was getting on average 45ms. This was on my old system.
    I think the system is trying to optimise for maximum bandwidth, and therefore comprimising on latency.
    There must be a way technically to optimise for low latency at the expense of bandwidth.
    I have raised and call and managed to fight my way through to Tier 2 support, (at least they understand the terms I am using yay). There are other gamers with the same problem, and there is an investingation this week.
    If there is no solutions then its back to ADSL wired 3Mbs broadband for me but at least I will get 50ms latency.
    Will keep you posted, this will be a big blow to BT Infinity for online gamers if they cant fix it
    Cheers
    Hi there,
    I'm just tossing my £0.02. Have you considered that there could be congestion at your exchange/gateway?
    I had Infinity installed on Friday (I'm on the LNADK exchange) and below is the ping/jitter test that I did about 10 minutes ago.

    I think Padstow is part of the BT project to bring high speed BB to Cornwall as money was made available from some european pot of gold and then BT added some more, got no timescales have a read on this link at the BBC.
    It also explains fibre to the cab (FTTC) and fibre to the premises (FTTP)

  • Help getting our infinity service working!

    We have had the utterly most frustrating/annoying experience with BT Broadband in Cornwall, the first county in the country to go to Superfast broadband.  BT Broadband is the monopoly provider, I and my husband have spent hours - literally on the phone to the call centre trying to sort out why are new Infinity connection would not work, having had a normal box previously and being told by BT that we would be better to upgrade to Infinity.  Over the past 4 weeks we have been trying to sort the issue out to no avail.  We have been passed from one person to another, they have cancelled appointments that were made without telling us, as a result we have lost numerous days of working and had to buy a seperate system from EE, which I thoroughly recommend, at considerable cost again.  There is no one you can talk to in the UK or Cornwall, there is no escalation of the complaint and apart from one person, all the people we spoke to were extremely unhelpful.  As the head of customer services, I have resorted to this open letter.  Sorry but we have tried every other route that is available to us as customers. Your ability to allow customers to escalate complaints beyond level 2 needs addressing, particularly as you have the monopoly as a provider.  Thank you

  • How Long Does It Take To Get BT Infinity & Telepho...

    Hi
    I wanted to phone up BT and ask this question, but I couldn't get past "We Need The Phone Number This Enquiry Relates To Before We Can Proceed". Err, it's a pre-sales enquiry, I don't have a BT phone number.
    Anyway...
    I am moving into a new house and wondered how long it it likely to take between ordering BT Infinity and Telephone and an engineer coming round to fit it.
    We have work being done at the house right now, and I didn't want it fitted too early as I would be paying for somethning that I couldn't use yet. On the other hand, if it was to take a while, I didn't really want to move in first then order them.
    So, can someone from BT give me an idea how long it will take, or give me a customer service / pre sales phone number other than 0800 800 150 that I don't need to give you a BT telephone number that I don't yet have?
    Thank You

    You won't be able to change the rescue email address on your acocunt until you can answer two of your questions, if you don't recognise the address then you will need to contact iTunes Support / Apple to get the questions reset.

    When they've been reset you can then use the steps half-way down this page to update your rescue email address for potential future use : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5312

  • Questions on getting "other" data off ipad

    I have been reading the threads, but before I do a full restore I have a few questions.
    I have about 2GB of "other" space on my 8GB ipad 2 (OS 7 withou the latest patch). I need to get rid of it because I can't load the new OS and I have the ipad down to bare bones.
    Anyway, I was reading that "other" could be corrupted data or stuff that apps are using. I got rid of my photos. All I have is apps, and music plus the files I store in pages.
    1. How can I tell which apps are sucking up space?
    2. If I do a restore, will the corrupted data just come back from my MBP onto my ipad? I am backing up to the MBP and also syncing everything in icloud. This is where my brain gets lost because I don't understand where the bad data is being stored.
    Any thoughts or hints would be appreciated before I start doing neurosurgery.
    Thanks in advance!

    How to Remove “Other” Data from iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch

    With an iOS device, the “Other” space in iTunes is used to store things like documents, settings, caches, and a few other important items. If you sync lots of documents to apps like GoodReader, DropCopy, or anything else that reads external files, your storage use can skyrocket. With iOS 5/6/7, you can see exactly which applications are taking up the most space. Just head to Settings > General > Usage, and tap the button labeled Show All Apps. The storage section will show you the app and how much storage space it is taking up. Tap on the app name to get a description of the additional storage space being used by the app’s documents and data. You can remove the storage-hogging application and all of its data directly from this screen, or manually remove the data by opening the app. Some applications, especially those designed by Apple, will allow you to remove stored data by swiping from left to right on the item to reveal a Delete button.

  • A few questions to get me started on Photos

    1) I have folders under "pictures" on the Mac root folder. They are called: 2014; 2014 New York; 2014 Birthday; 2014 Katy Perry; etc. I would like to import each of these as an album bearing the same name. Is there a way to do that automatically? I have over 500 albums spanning 4 decades
    2) Once imported I want to organize all the albums of one year (e.g. the ones I mentioned above) under one folder named after the year (e.g. 2014). Is that something I can do on folders or should I do it on smart albums?
    3) I want to categorize my albums by "parties", "trips", "concerts", etc. So I would like to have "2014 Katy Perry" along with "2013 Lady Gaga" and "2010 ACDC" in one location called "concerts", but I would still like to have them in their own albums, as opposed to all the photos loose in the folder. How do I do that?
    4) Face recognition. It doesn't seem to be working right. I have been prompted the same face in photos taken within minutes of each other and it still requires me to assign a name to each photo. It is obviously not recognizing the faces. How do I solve this? On the same topic, can I select several photos at the same time and drag them to one of the face circles above the screen?
    5) I don't want to upload my photos to the cloud, I want to have them on my Mac. But I would like to use all the photos me and my wife take on our iphones and ipads to be synced via the cloud so I can download them to my hard drive, and organize them by folders and albums just like my previous photos. So my questions are: a) can I decide where in my Mac do these photos get stored? b) can I then delete them from the cloud? c) will they be stored only in the location I decide, or will copies be kept elsewhere in my Mac?
    6) How can make my photos work as screen saver on my apple TV? Can I choose which ones? How?

    MVC is fine.
    What to begin with? Design first.

  • More forms questions, cannot get form to align

    I tried the methods suggested here and at various sites, but could be missing something.
    I cannot get the form to drop into my template. I created one at wufoo and one a freeback, published my site to a folder, then edited the page in textedit by search for my "formcode" word with the html.
    The problem is the form posts at the top of the file and not on the actual page.
    Any ideas why?

    Thanks folks, I went ahead and bought iweb enhancer and it worked where my efforts failed. Very good program and very reasonable price as well.

  • Question about get web service result in actionscript and convert data format

    Hi, All
    I have question about how to get dataset from web services
    and put it in tree structure. I have 2 questions about this:
    1, How can I get data correctly in actionscript?
    I have no problem to get data by
    <mx:ArrayCollection id="acFolder"
    source="{mx.utils.ArrayUtil.toArray(MyGServices.getFolder.lastResult)}"
    />
    And display in datagrid.
    But when I try to use
    public function
    handleFolderContents(event:mx.rpc.events.ResultEvent):void{
    arData=mx.utils.ArrayUtil.toArray(event.result);
    acData=new ArrayCollection(arData);
    input.text=acData.getItemAt(0).id;
    Seems I can’t get data, it always say:
    TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of
    a null object reference.
    2, how to convert data format
    I get data from web service and want to convert it to tree
    structure, as mention below:
    I get:
    <Array>
    <id>111</id>
    <Name>Production1</Name>
    </Array>
    <Array>
    <id>222</id>
    <Name>Production2</Name>
    </Array>
    Convert to:
    <mx:XMLList id="treeData">
    <node>
    <node label="Production1" data="111">
    <node label="Production2" data="222"/>
    </node>
    </node>
    </mx:XMLList>
    Please help me.
    Thanks.

    First, don't specify the package path in the argument
    declaration. Instead import the event object:
    import mx.rpc.events.ResultEvent;
    The docs state this emphatically.
    Second, try "lastResult", in place of "result":
    arData=mx.utils.ArrayUtil.toArray(event.lastResult); // I am
    not positive about this. I maybe recall reading that result was ok
    for the event object, but maybe not.
    Finally, why do you want to convert the xml? You certainly
    could, but it would be a manual process, recursively reading the
    existing xml nodes and building the new structure, but again, why?
    Just use a labelFunction if necessary to display the nodes as
    you wish.
