Questions on Golive - DW8 Migration

I'm a long-time GoLive user - I started testing both apps at
v. 1.0, and Dreamwever didn't get good until version 3, but by that
time I was heavily invested in GoLive.
I now am ready to switch, but i've got a laundry list of
questions of the "I know how to do it in GoLive, how do I do it in
DW?" variety? I've committed to switching, so I'm not looking to
debate which is better - I just want to know how to keep my
productivity up during (and after) the transition
If anyone cares to educate me, i'd love some assistance:
1)I've got 400+ pages and files in one of the 50+ sites that
I work on regularly. So i'm not intimately familiar with the layout
of this particular site. I know I need to edit the contact us page,
but I don't remember if its called contactus.html, or
/about/contact.html or /buried/deep/in/bowels/of/site/contact.html.
In Golive, I type 'contact' into the search box in the site
management window and all files with the word 'contact' pop up for
me to inspect and see which one I want to edit.
How can I quickly find a page/image/file in Dreamweaver if I
know (a portion of) the name?
2)I've got a PDF file in my site that I need to make sure is
linked in, and see which pages are linked to it. In Golive, there's
a 'link in/out' window that shows me all links to and from a
page/image/file. Is there some such beast in Dreamweaver? Looking
in the archives, all I see is the 'delete the file and then see
which pages it says you'll be modifying' method, which seems scary
to me, since my fingers sometimes move of their own accord and I
don't want to REALLY delete the file
3)This whole 'put dependent files' thing has me frustrated.
Lets assume i'm working on a site that I just built from scratch
today, and it has lots of little images. I've uploaded the entire
site to the server, but now I need to create a new image and add it
to one page. In Golive, i'd click the 'upload modified files'
button, and those two files would be uploaded.
In DW8, best I can understand it, I click the 'upload' button
for the page, and I'm given the choice to 'upload dependent files'.
This uploads all 30 images associated with this page, even tho they
weren't changed. Is there some better way to do this?
Likewise, if I just edited an image deep in the heirarchy of
the site, but didn't edit the page, and I only need to upload that
image, is there any button for checking modified files so I don't
have to bother uploading the entire page & images again? This
wouldn't be an issue if DW8 didn't make me wait until the upload
was done before letting me work on something else. I thought this
was something that DW had better than Golive for a while and now
they've lost that feature?
4)Keyboard shortcuts for site window. This may be a Mac OS X
thing, but I would think that a program more geared towards
'coders' rather than 'designers' would be more keyboard-friendly. I
want to be able to navigate the 'files' window of my site by
keyboard - arrows up /down to find a folder, Command-arrow
down/right to open a folder and continue navigating, etc... At
least on my system, this doesn't work - no way to open a folder
other than double-click on it. Am I missing something?
5)SFTP with Authentication - I'm able to successfully connect
to my SFTP server using Transmit/Interarchy, etc, but not
Dreamweaver. I found an old post that says that DW MX doesn't
support non-password authentication - is this true for DW 8 as
well?
Thanks much for all the help - I just found this forum and
will probably be lurking here for a few months as I get the hang of
things now that i've joined 'the other side' :)
Thank you!

Bump - I did figure out # 3.5 above - I found the 'select
modified files' and it will tell me everything I modified that day.
Of course, that doesn't help when I work on 14 files in the morning
and 2 in the afternoon - its still going to select and therefore
upload all 16, but at least that's better than all 300+ files.
I'm most interested to see what people say about #1 and #2 -
how do I find a file in my large site, and how do I find out what
pages are linked to a specific page or image, other then by
'almost-deleting' it?

  • TimeMachine question after OS upgrade & migration to new HD

    Hi
I've just upgraded to Yosemite from Mavericks and I'm a bit confused about how TimeMachine should now work.
I clean installed Yosemite to a new drive and used Migration Assistant to copy everything else using the Mavericks based TM backup as the source. I still have Mavericks on the other drive while I'm evaluating Yostemite (it's my work machine) and I've turned off TM backups for the moment.
My question is if I reenable TM on the new Yosemtie system what will happen? Will it continue to backup only the changes to my user account and system, or will it backup a completely new instance of the OS and user account on the TM drive? I doubt there's enough space even though its a 4TB drive.

Mine only backed up what had changed. If required:

  • Question about Unicode and migration 32 -- 64 bit

    Hello
We are using ECC 5.0 on Windows 32-bit and SQL Server 2000.
We want to migrate to platform Windows 64 bit. We know the procedure described on note 960769-Windows:Migration from 32-bit to 64-bit.
We know we can use R3load to do export/import, and we are going to install SQL server 2005 in target server.
So, with this procedure we will be in ECC 5.0 , Windows 64-bit and SQL server 2005, but the main question is.. how Unicode conversion play here?
Can we take advantadge of this migration performing Unicode Conversion too?  How? Is Unicode Conversion obligatory here?
    u2026
    Thanks and regards
    Javier

    Hi Javier,
first of all, your upgrade to SQL Server 2005 64bit could be done without Migration. You just have to upgrade your database and you're done.
If you would like to migrate to Unicode you could do this by migrating from 32bit to 64bit with R3load. Actually when you want to migrate to Unicode, the you should do it with a small and simple system. Simple means here with single code page or few code pages. If you plan to install new languages which would introduce new code pages, then a Unicode migration should be done before you add the language. Small means, when your system grow significantly, then you should migrate soon. When you started an archiving project, then you probably better wait till this project lead to a smaller system. In other words. The less code pages you have and the smaller your system is, the better it is for your Migration. Downtime will be smaller and the project complexity will be less too.

  • Question regarding Exchange ActiveSync migration from Exchange 2003

    Hello,
I am a bit confused about info about requirements when migrating Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) from 2003 to 2010. Now this question is related to EAS only, forget about other services, such as OWA or Outlook Anywhere, for a while.
Basically, all migration guides state that you have to configure and setup a legacy url for legacy services for co-existence. Based on that, I have had an understanding that Exchange 2010 CAS cannot proxy EAS users that are still on Exchange 2003, but issues
a redirect command to EAS client.
However, this article shows information that, based on my understanding, states that Exchange 2010 CAS DOES proxy EAS clients that are still on 2003: http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2009/12/08/3408985.aspx
For migration from 2007 EAS to 2010 EAS the article shows redirecting, but not with 2003.
So my question is: While talking about only EAS, do I need to configure legacy external url/namespace/name resolution or not?
    Thanks for answering!

    Hello,
    I agree with Rajith's suggestion.

  • Question about the ECC6 migration and the retrieving of partner's address

    Hi experts,
I have already post a thread about the use of the table BUT021_FS instead of BUT020 for retrieving partner's standard address.
I do modifications to my specific programs.
But what about the standard?like BUA_BUT020_SELECT_WITH_PARTNER for example
If I read the standard code, I see that it is still using the indicator XDFADR to specify if this address is standard or not.
I am new at ABAP and I want to know your analyse about it.
So, my question is : Is the result of this FM (partner address) correct? what I mean to say if I will use this address to determine if it is a standard or not.
    Best regards.

    Hi,
I understood what you mean but I don't use this FM explicitly.
I am analyzing a CRM 7 dump and I see in the traces of st22 the use of this FM.
The dump appears when I create new Organization and Contact in CRM WebUI. May be it's a validation of fields of address. But I think, I must put this other thread in CRM, but I you had some experience with it, it would be very helpful.
    Thank you for your help,
    Best regards.

  • Question: CUA to IDM Migration Guide?

Is there a guide/document that talks about Migrating from CUA to IDM
    Thanks!

    Hi
This one: Identity Management for SAP System Landscapes: Architectural Overview
and this one: Identity Management for SAP System Landscapes: Configuration Guide
talk briefly about the integration into an existing CUA landscape.
AFAIK one connects the IdM to the CUA system and reads all the data. Afterwards you remove the systems step by step from CUA and allow IdM to handle them.
    Hope I could help

  • LOTS Of Questions... (Migrating To OS X)

Strictly speaking, this may not be the appropriate forum for these questions, but I'm inclined to think the 'old timers' here might have a better handle on many of them than recent 'switchers'.
I will be upgrading my PB Ti G4 to 10.4.3 soon, haven't spent a whole lot of time on OS X and am looking for advice to ease my transition. I want to maintain dual boot and full Classic capability for the time being.
I will likely be partitioning the drive for other reasons... I'm wondering if there's any advantage to having OS 9 and X systems on separate partitions? Will X 'see' 9 (and run it as Classic) if I do so?
There are a number of apps and utilities I've come to rely on in 9 (and below) that I'd like to replicate (as possible) on X. Among them...
ResEdit - Is there any comparable tool for making minor changes to existing apps in X?
KeyQuencer - An extremely useful keyboard / macro program, not supported on X... is there any suitable replacement (preferably one that dovetails nicely with AppleScript)?
The Apple Menu - Is 'Fruit Menu' a safe and worthwhile substitute?
I hate the Dock... can someone recommend a usable alternative? One that stays hidden til you want it?
I'm used to pre-X maintenance techniques and don't know a lot about X maintenance. Is there a reliable 'all in one' tool for handling similar tasks on X?
Finally, even on 9, I use a minimalist appearance scheme, mainly black and white. Are third-party appearance 'skins' in X safe to use?
I'm aware this is a lot to ask in one post and that I could find (some) answers searching the web, but I would greatly appreciate comments from folks who've 'been there'... even if your experience is only with one of the items mentioned.
    Thanks Very Much.

"My other computer is a Kanga."

    None,
I will not address the apps and utilities question but can offer a few suggestions regarding 9.x, etc.
Partitioning the HD will work just fine and I always do so on my 'books, dual-boot or not. I will describe my configuration as an example.
    - One partition has both 9.x and 10.x; the 9.x System Folder on this partition is "optimized" to run as Classic...all unnecessary extensions/control panels are disabled plus only those apps that will run in Classic are present.
    - Another partition has a full boat install of 9.x plus all utilities and applications, just as if you were not running 10.x.
When booted to 10.x, you can select either 9.x System Folder to run as Classic -or- either 9.x to boot; you can also choose to install 9.x on just one partition...makes no difference which. You don't actually have to run the 9.x installer on both partitions; if you wish to install a full 9.x + apps on a separate partition, you can then just drag-copy the System Folder to the 10.x partition, either before or after 10.x is installed...this is what makes 9.x so easy to copy/install.
When partitioning, make sure you install the MacOS 9 HD Driver on all partitions first; it is necessary to boot 9.x but not necessary to run Classic under 10.x. You can either use Drive Setup on the 9.x CD to set up the HD or Disk Utility in 10.x; just select MacOS Extended Format (or HFS Extended Format), install the 9.x HD driver, then install the software.

  • Questions about SAP BW migration

    Hello Gurus,
we will move a few extra data flows from SAP BW 3.5 to SAP BI 7.0.  how to evaluate Data volume in our SAP BW system comparatively quickly ? how to evaluate if it will downgrade the performance of the whole BI7.0 box if the hardware stays the same?
    Many thanks.

    Hi,
You need to try in Service.sap > Software download to find the required patch and download and install the same.

  • Development to Production / Migration questions

I have a few questions that relate to migrations from a development instance to production, and keeping the environments in sync.
    BACKGROUND INFO
As a "side" project at my place of employment I have created an APEX app that is being used and has been very well received. Since it went well, they have now asked for a 2nd larger application and have assigned a 2nd person to work with me on this. The other person is gung-ho that we need to develop in a development instance and then migrate to production when we are ready to go live so we have been working this way. At this point, we have 2 totally separate APEX workspaces, lets call them DEV and PROD for now. This sounds great on paper, but I have experienced a few challenges.
    MY QUESTIONS
    1. Lets say we log into DEV and make a few minor changes to a single page. There does not seem to be a way to migrate just the one single page or its changes into PROD. It seems the only way would be to migrate the entire app over again, which seems silly if we only made 1 or 2 small changes.
    2. Assuming the answer to question #1 is NO (in other words every little change requires migrating the entire app), then how can I avoid the URL changing after each migration?
    3. It seems when migrating over DB schema objects (tables, views, procedures, etc..) APEX generates a massive script for you broken into ndividual sub-scripts separated by a slash. However, it also seems that you can't simply run the entire massive script at once, but must run each individual sub-script one at a time. Is there a quicker way?
    4. Is there an easy way to migrate over any scheduled jobs I created with DBMS_SCHEDULER?
    5. At this point, DEV and PROD are rather out of sync, so I would like to essentially start over and erase DEV and then rebuild it by simply making a copy of PROD (if this is possible). In other words I'm looking for any info on how to create a refresh process. Mind you, I don't have actual DBA access (only access is via the APEX web interface) so is there an easy way to clone one APEX workspace into another without DBA privileges?
    6. I assume the answer to #5 is NO. Assuming this, is there a quick way to basically erase everything in APEX workspace, and then I can manually start migrating objects from PROD in?
    Any tips/suggestions/recommendations are appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Paul

If your apps BOTH have the same APP ID, you can export pages from development and import them into your production application, via the import/export mechanism in APEX. However, you MUST keep the app id's in sync.
    >
    2. Assuming the answer to question #1 is NO (in other words every little change requires migrating the entire app), then how can I avoid the URL changing after each migration?Refer to answer given in #1.. Also, you can use an application alias, so that if you DO change the app id, the url should NOT change, since you are using the alias as apposed to App id in url string.

Is there a quicker way? What I recommend, is to bundle the ddl code as part of the install script, under supporting objects in your application, thus the code can be run in it's entirety when you do an install of your application.
    >
    4. Is there an easy way to migrate over any scheduled jobs I created with DBMS_SCHEDULER?I would bundle this in the install code of your application, as noted above. Since it is just a pl/sql script to submit your dbms_scheduler job<s>, it makes sense to do it this way in a script with ddl objects building.

If you are serious about wanting to wipe development out, there are scripts about that will allow you to wipe ALL database objects from a schema, and then you would delete the applications in development. Then you could just export your application and database objects and data from production and import them in development.
For the database data I would use sql developer to build insert scripts and load them into the supporting objects section of application with the ddl to Build the objects..

  • WiSM questions (requirements, migration and some config)

    Hello,
I am going to be installing a CISCO WiSM blade in a 6509 switch to replace my dual 4404's and I am having trouble finding answers to some of my concerns.
On the documentation I could find, one of the requirements listed to run WiSM is ACS version 2.6. This isn't too big of a deal as I have ACS version 3.3 running, but my question is this:
Is ACS a requirement to actually use the WiSM - or is it just saying that if you are using ACS with the WiSM, you need 2.6 or above? I do not use ACS with my 4404's.
More importantly, I have a question regarding the actual migration process of switching from the dual 4404 setup to the WiSM blade. I do not have a second 6509 for testing/configuring purposes, so the only way to set up the WiSM is live.. so I'd rather not have to configure it from scratch. Is it possible to upload configuration files from each 4404 into the two internal 4404's of the WiSM blade? If so, how?
    Thanks in advance.

You do not need ACS to use the WiSM. Its just saying you need that version level if you plan on using ACS with the WiSM.
For testing I suggest you make a new vlan/dhcp scope that you can run only on the wism. For this dhcp scope set the option 43 value to point only to the WiSM. This way you have it live, but not on the production wireless network.
Once you have finished your testing and feel comfortable with getting things configured you can wipe out the interfaces/ssid's on the wism for your test network and put in the production settings.
I have 5 wism's installed currently with over 1000 AP's, 2 location servers, and WCS. So if you need any help getting things running let me know.

  • SharePoint 2007 (WSS 3.0) migration to SharePoint Foundation 2013

    Hi
I have a requirement to migrate a SharePoint 2007 (WSS 3.0) farm to a SharePoint Foundation 2013 farm. The WSS 3.0 farm has SQL Server 2005 Standard running so no restrictions on the size of the content database. The SharePoint Foundation 2010 and 2013 farms
will share the same SQL Server 2012 Standard instance (as I know WSS 3.0 will have to be migrated to 2010 before 2013). I also have two other WSS 3.0 farms (so three WSS 3.0 Farms, lets call these A (250GB), B (90GB) and C (60GB)) that I need to migrate
into WSS 3.0 Farm A before the migration to SP 2010.
My question is, can I migrate a 400GB WSS 3.0 site collection to SP 2010 or will I have to split this into separate site collections? I have read that there is a best practice limit of 100GB per site collection but this does not stop a larger migration from
happening. Obviously over time when the migration has completed to SharePoint Foundation 2013 the single site collection will grow and grow so perhaps now is the right time to split this out into, say, year named site collections, but surely this will incur
an end of year process to create new site collections and a custom dev headache due to different locations to send newly created sites?
    Thanks.

The answer is Yes, and you are correct about the best practice of a limit of 100GB,
although, document and record centers (e.g. non collaborative) can go much higher.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262787(v=office.15).aspx#ContentDB
That being what it is, your sites will perform better if you find a topology that allows the content databases to be under 100GB each.  You can use Move-SPSite to accomplish that feat.
You'll want a separate instance for 2010 and a separate instance for 2013
and finally, put some quota's in place and then governance document\statement that informs users that 100 GB is the max for any given site collection that uses collaborative features (calendars, lists, workflows, etc.)
The simple path is explained on technet, go from 2007 to 2010 (you can inplace upgrade if you want) then go from 2010 to 2013, database detach and attach is only way.
please check the below link that explains more about the migration from share point 2007->2013.

  • New Mac Pro setup questions..

    Hi,
Just pulled the trigger on a Mac Pro 3gh, 4gb, ATI 1900. I am going to that from a dual 1.42 quicksilver and had some questions.
It seems migration assistant may not be the best way to go. Is this true, should I reinstall everything? Is it possible to drag and drop apps to the new machine?
Is it possible to get mail info from another machine to the new one? I have an iMac at home that I have been using Mail with and would like all the email addresses on the new machine at work. My old setup, I was still using Enterouge (sp) and would like to use Mail like at home.
I have the stock 250gb drive and I need to figure out different drive scenarios. I recently bought two external 500gb drives before even thinking about a new system. I am a commercial photographer and one drive is a backup that lives offsite from my studio for protection. Should I mirror with an external?
    Thanks for any help!

    This FAQ may be helpful:
A Basic Guide for Migrating to Intel-Macs
If you are migrating a PowerPC system (G3, G4, or G5) to an Intel-Mac be careful what you migrate. Keep in mind that some items that may get transferred will not work on Intel machines and may end up causing your computer's operating system to malfunction.
Rosetta supports "software that runs on the PowerPC G3 or G4 processor that are built for Mac OS X". This excludes the items that are not universal binaries or simply will not work in Rosetta:
Classic Environment, and subsequently any Mac OS 9 or earlier applications
    Screensavers written for the PowerPC
    System Preference add-ons
    All Unsanity Haxies
    Browser and other plug-ins
    Contextual Menu Items
Applications which specifically require the PowerPC G5
    Kernel extensions
Java applications with JNI (PowerPC) libraries
See also What Can Be Translated by Rosetta.
In addition to the above you could also have problems with migrated cache files and/or cache files containing code that is incompatible.
If you migrate a user folder that contains any of these items, you may find that your Intel-Mac is malfunctioning. It would be wise to take care when migrating your systems from a PowerPC platform to an Intel-Mac platform to assure that you do not migrate these incompatible items.
If you have problems with applications not working, then completely uninstall said application and reinstall it from scratch. Take great care with Java applications and Java-based Peer-to-Peer applications. Many Java apps will not work on Intel-Macs as they are currently compiled. As of this time Limewire, Cabos, and Acquisition are available as universal binaries. Do not install browser plug-ins such as Flash or Shockwave from downloaded installers unless they are universal binaries. The version of OS X installed on your Intel-Mac comes with special compatible versions of Flash and Shockwave plug-ins for use with your browser.
The same problem will exist for any hardware drivers such as mouse software unless the drivers have been compiled as universal binaries. For third-party mice the current choices are USB Overdrive or SteerMouse. Contact the developer or manufacturer of your third-party mouse software to find out when a universal binary version will be available.
Also be careful with some backup utilities and third-party disk repair utilities. Disk Warrior (does not work), TechTool Pro (pre-4.5.1 versions do not work), SuperDuper (newest release works), and Drive Genius (untested) may not work properly on Intel-Macs. The same caution may apply to the many "maintenance" utilities that have not yet been converted to universal binaries.
Before migrating or installing software on your Intel-Mac check MacFixit's Rosetta Compatibility Index.

  • Migrating data from a dead iMac

My 2006 iMac has died. The display does not work anymore.  I have a new mini on order and I have a couple of questions about migrating the data from the HDD on my old iMac to my mini.
I do Have a time machine backup on a separate drive.   I could not find anything that spoke about migrating to a new Mac from a time machine backup.
    my questions are.
can I migrate from my old iMac to my new mini using a time machine backup?
can I select what data I wish to migrate?
how can I deauthorize the old iMa?
    thanks

One of the first screens that will appear when you start up the new Mac will say "do you want to restore from another Mac or Time Machine backup?". Select that and follow the prompts. I could be mistaken, but I don't believe you can select what data is migrated (only what date you restore it from). Older system files will not be migrated (ie, your new Mac will have whatever OS it shipped with, not that of your old iMac).
if the old iMac powers up, you may still be able to migrate from it. Hold down T on its keyboard as you boot it up, and connect a FireWire cable (with Thunderbolt adaptor for the new iMac) across the two computers. You should be able to choose it as a migration source when you start up the new iMac; if you skip the migration at setup, you can try again using Migration ASsistant from the Utilities folder. Doing a migration instead of Time Machine recovery should give you a little more control over what gets migrated. Or you can skip automatic migration altogether if you want to select specific documents and files and do manual copying from one to the other (this won't work with applications).
Your last option would be to physically remove the Mac's hard drive and put it in an external enclosure (probably USB3 is cheapest) if you want to do a migration but can't power up the old iMac.
Unless you can connect an external monitor to the old imac to get it working, you might have to skip iTunes deauthorization until you have 5 computers authorized, at which time you can deauthorize them all from your iTunes account screen (and then re authorize the ones you're using).

  • IBook G4 migration to new MacBook Pro

We are replacing my wife's old iBook G4 (OS X 10.5.8 with Power PC processor) with a new MacBook Pro.  Some questions:
    1. Is migration of the her files (especially her MS Office files, Thunderbird email files, and Firefox bookmarks), compatible software, preferences and info from the old iBook to the new MacBook Pro a problem?
    2. Are there any software issues other than probable incompatibility from Power PC versions to Intel versions?
    3. Is migration something I can do at home (as I have from an older MacBook Pro to my new one: connect the two with an ethernet cable and choose "migrate") or should we spend the $99.00 and 2-3 days without a computer and let the Apple Store do it (because of concerns about the Power PC processor to the Intel processor)?
    4.  She's been using an old version of Extensis Suitcase (X1) as her font management program.  Is this a potential problem?  (FYI, I use Suitcase Fusion 2)
    5. The new computer will have Mountain Lion and I use Lion.  Are there significant differences between the two that we should be aware of in advance?
I realize that most of her old software won't be compatible, and, for example, I already have a multiple license version of MS Office 2011 to replace her old version of Office which I know is incompatible.  My greater concern again is the potential for any data loss (especially her MS Office files, Thunderbird email files, and Firefox bookmarks) if I do the migration instead of having Apple Store do it...and yes, I'll back up everything on her old computer in either case!
Thanks in advance for any replies, and I sincerely apologize for the long post!

" I assume that means the purchase of a different Firewire cable is necessary?"
Use six-pin (FireWire 400) to eight-pin (FireWire 800) FireWire cable
