Hi,
Read this: http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-A-Series-A4-5000-Notebook-Processor.92867.0.html
I don't think it's a good idea running virtual machines on a low voltage processor and this one is also a low end one. I suggest an Intel laptop instead. These are more powerful than AMD ones and you need power for the virtual machines.

  • Power Supply and Graphics Card Question for HP Pavilion a6432p

    Hello!
I have the HP Pavilion a6342p, and I'm wanting to install an NVIDIA Graphics Card either 512MB or 1GB. However, I'm not sure what is the power supply to this model (most graphics cards are saying 300-350W supply required).
Can anyone tell me what is the power supply to this model, and what would be a good graphics card model to look at to upgrade my graphics card to with this model? I believe the expansion slots are PCI-Express, but I'm not sure on the power supply so I can get the right graphics card.
    Thanks!

No the 9100 is not just an integrated video chipset and is available in both AGP & PCI form.
The Antec is a good PSU but I would recommend getting something better such as the OCZ or Enermax as they have a higher +12v rail amp.

  • HP Pavilion dv7-4083cl (w/ Intel Core i5 and ATI GPU): Which is its normal temperature?

    Hello,
I have a question about HP Pavilion dv7-4083cl (w/ Intel Core i5 and ATI GPU):
    Which is its normal temperature?
    Environment: 24 °C (Celcius)
HWMonitor and Real Temp agrees with the numbers find below.
The two CPU Cores starts at 37 °C and in about an hour are at 53 °C, with CPU usage under 10%.
The GPU starts at 34 °C and easly goes to 57 °C, with some peaks at 72 °C
    Regarding "Hewlett-Packard 144B": (under low/idle CPU usage)
TZ01: starts at 40 °C and very fast goes to 55 °C or 65 °C (and more, under CPU load)
PCH starts at 59 °C and very fast goes to 76 °C (and stays there)
GMCH: starts at 40 °C and very fast goes to 55 °C or 65 °C
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 (TMPIN0): Starts at 34 °C and easily goes and stays at 57-58 °C
Note: I'm also using a cooler (two fans, under its base)
If I run Real Temp (v. 3.6) "Sensor Test", the cores goes up to 100 °C , and even a bit more.
Which is the normal / expected behavior / operational range?
Steady PCH at 76 °C is it normal?
    TZ01, GMCH at 55 - 65 °C is it normal?
i5 Cores at 55 °C is it normal? (and easily going to 70 °C or more)
GPU (ATI) at 57 °C is it normal?
is it normal to climb up to 100-105 °C under a 5 minutes high CPU usage operation?
    Thanks!

i roll back to bios F.25 which is the older version of bios that support my device but still suffering from same D90 system overheating error.

  • HP Pavilion dv6-6090sm charger

    One question,i have Pavilion dv6-6090sm with charger output 19.0 V/4.74 A,can i use charger with output 18.5 V/3.5 A?
    I`m not using battery.

    Hi,
I actually have few laptops each has 3 PSU's (chargers), 1 is 65W (light for carrying around), one is 90W (normal) and 1 is 120W (for docking station).
In your case, the first one is 90W and the second one is 65W. Most likely your machine may not turn on because the video card. If it turned On, I would not recomment you to use this permanently.
    Hope this helps.

  • Battery Question: Pavilion dv6-6c65sx

I have : HP Pavilion dv6-6c65sx Entertainment Notebook PC with Windows 7 64-bit
I bough it as a Desktop Replacement, so, it is almost my only machine.I use it all the time.
I plug the AC Adapter to it with the battery in place , But I am not sure this is the best practice for it.
I heard the battery gets weaker when plugged to AC Adapter all time.
What is really the best practice, knowning that I rarely move with it?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi,
If you use the notebook on AC Power nearly all of the time, I would suggest storing the battery as the machine will run perfectly well without it installed and you gain the advantage of increasing the usable life of your battery.
The primary factors affecting the lifespan of a lithium ion battery are the number of charge/discharge cycles and if stored, the temperature.
If you wish to store the battery, drain it to around 40% charge, then remove it, wrap it in a plastic bag and store it in a cool location such as a refrigerator ( not freezer ).  It's also a good idea, once a month, to fully charge, fully discharge, fully charge and then drain to 40% again before storing.
    Best regards,

  • URGENT QUESTION concerning Pavilion DV6 laptop charger

    Hey I have a question: I have two HP laptops; one is the Pavilion dv6 and has a charger with the series number PPP009L-E, with input 1.6A and 65W;
The other laptop is the Pavilion dv6-3236NR, with the charger having the series number PPP009D, with input 1.7A and 65W.
My question is, can I use the second charger for the first charger's laptop? My first Pavilion dv6 won't charge at all! Could someone PLEASE help me ASAP and tell me if it's the charger's problem, battery problem, or both, and whether I could use the second charger on the laptop!

    Hi Sekhar,
Well the error code would certainly indicate that the drive has started to fail, but just in case, you could try wiping the entire Hard Drive first and then reinstalling the Operating System as described below.
Download and install Killdisk on the link below - ( this application will write zeros to the entire drive ).
    http://software.lsoft.net/KillDiskSuiteFree-Setup.exe
Download and install ImgBurn on the link below.
    http://download.cnet.com/ImgBurn/3000-2646_4-10847481.html
Go to the Kill Disk application you have installed in All Programs, open the main folder, then select Bootable Disk creators and from that select Bootable DOS CD Creator which will burn the bootable ISO to a blank CD.
During the next process do not worry about any warnings as your Windows 7 installation disc will reformat the HDD.
Insert this CD in to your PC that is unable to load Operating System properly. Shut the notebook down, then start it again to boot from the Killdisk CD and follow the on screen instructions for Kill Disk.
A brief description of the process is here Killdisk.
Use this to wipe the whole of the Hard Drive, highlight (80h) and press f10 ( you will also have to type a confirmation and hit enter ) - ( this will make sure you include all partitions and then start the process - this may take a couple of hours! ).
When the process is complete, remove the Killdisk CD and try installing Windows 7 again.
If it still fails, I think your only option is to replace the HDD.

  • HP Pavilion p7-1207c graphics card upgrade question

Hi, I currently own a HP Pavilion p7-1207c and I play NBA 2K15 on low settings at 1600x900 and average only about 25 maybe 30 if I get lucky. The card I plan on upgrading to is either the GT 630 or the GT 730. My question is if my motherboard would support either of these cards and will I see a increase of framerates in 2K15? I have tried finding a BIOS update on my computer HP's page, couldn't find any. I was just wondering if the GT 730 would be compatible with my PC.
    Thanks!

    GarrickLee, welcome to the forum.
There is no BIOS update for the computer.  HP doesn't develop them after the computer is over a year old.
Yes, the GT 730 is compatible with your motherboard.  However, I can't tell you for certain if it will provide more FPS.

  • Pavilion dv9429us - hard drive questions

I have a Pavilion dv9429us laptop with hard drive problems.  Drive 1 is a 120 GB WD that is SATA 1.5Gb/s.  Is the hard drive controller a SATA 1 device - limited to 1.5Gb/s, or is it a SATA 2 device at 3.0Gb/s, allowing me to upgrade to a faster throughput drive (even though the current hard drive is SATA 1)?
Also, is there more than one partition on Drive 1 and, if so, what does each contain (for re-creation purposes)?
Same question for the 80GB, Drive 2.  And what controls the relationship between Drive 1 and Drive 2 for backup and restoration purposes?
    Thanks for all your help.

    1) Yes.
    2) They will appear as two individual drives. The only time more than one drive will appear as a single drive is in a RAID implementation.
    3) The simplest wuld be to get yourself a copy of a cloning tool such as SuperDuper!…
    http://www.shirt-pocket.com/
… and use that to clone from the factory drive to the new drive. However, I personally feel that you would be better off installing fresh drom the DVDs even though it'll take you a couple of hours longer.
    4) I don't like Migration Assistant and will never recommend using it to anyone so you'll probably need to get an answer from someone who does like it. As for when to install the drive, it's really up to you as before or after is fine. Some like to check that everything's working before they make changes in case it needs to go back or be repaired for whatever reason. Some don't care.

  • Pavilion dv5t-1000 Hard Drive question

    Hello.
This is probably a simple question but I'd like to know how many internal hard drives does my HP Pavilion dv5t-1000 support: one or two?  The specs I found online for my machine suggested that it can support two drives but I don't immediately see where the second drive would be housed if it does.
I don't have much experience with taking apart laptops but I was able to upgrade my RAM just fine.  And when I took the HD plate off and lifted up the hard drive housed inside, all I could see was the wireless card underneath and seemingly no room for a second drive.
So, does my dv5t-1000 laptop only support one hard drive?  And if it should happen to support two drives, where exactly would the second be housed?  I wasn't adventurous enough to take apart my laptop to find out so any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
I look forward to your helpful responses.
    Thank you,
    winebaron

    Hi,
The dv5 series really only supports 1 HDD although there are conversion kits available that will allow you to install a second drive in the optical drive bay - an example of this sort of kit is Here.

  • Hp pavilion dv7-6157cl upgrade questions

I currently own an hp pavilion dv7-6157cl  and want to upgrade my memory to 8gb and the HD to at least 1 TB. I figure I will do it when I tear my laptop appart to replace the cooling fan ( strange though - I have a Compaq (which is supposedly a lower end  of the HP line but it is over 3 years older  and the fan is still going strong and an even a much older and  lower end Gateway with no fan problems - go figure!). I upgraded my Compaq wireless card from a G to an N and learned that HP/Compaq had white lists for certain parts that would only allow certain manufactures parts to be used. Is this true also for memory and hard drives?
As far as the memory goes - what are the specs (I know they are DDR3) but what is the speed specs of the memory used. Being that it is 6 GB I presume there is a 4 and 2 GB  stick installed but I have  also gone by the standard that it is faster to  have both memory sticks the same capacity and speed. I also presume the extra memory would improve graphics also as the graphics share the sytem memory.
I also am going to be replacing the 640 GB  HD with at least  a 1 TB drive - is there a good program to clone the internal drive to use a bigger one as a direct replacement without having to reinstall everything. The cloning process would be simplified as currently buying 2.5 inch external USB 3.0 drives is cheaper than buying barebones drives (a 2.5" 1 TB  Seagate drive can . I presume if I got a 2 TB external I would have to partition it into 2 1 TB partions but the way the 2 TB  2.5" external drives it would be worth the cost.
Finally -  besides  the above questions are there certain makes for memory and HD's that are in the "whitelist" that can only be used. Any and all info would be appreciated.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi,
You've got many questions, please allow me to make some suggestions (not in order):
    1. 1TB is the sweet point now in term of price/performance and no need to muck around due to some limitations. Many HSSD's (Hybrid SSD) now are very good. HP uses few suppliers and many laptops use Toshiba HDD's, you may want to play safe by using this brand.
    2. For memory: your machine support 8Gb max as mentioned in its specs. From 6Gb to 8Gb you can't see or feel the difference but if you wish, keep the existing 4Gb and buy a SAME specs/brand 4Gb stick to replace the 2Gb stick. The video card on your machine can take "Up to 3061MB" max this will give you plenty of RAM.
    3. Cloning existing HDD to new HDD is the best approach if you won't need to change anything (by the way, I use this many times to swap my HDD's around my test machines). Some vendors supply tool for you (or you can download from their sites) to clone. There are few good cloning software around:
      http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/five-apps/five-free-and-reliable-cloning-tools/
      http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-drive-cloning-software.htm
All the best in 2014 and good luck for the upgrade.

  • Question - Need Advice Regarding Second Hard Drive On HP Pavilion dv7t-4100 Notebook PC

    Hi,
I currently have a HP Pavilion dv7t-4100 Notebook PC, and my hard drive failed (luckily while still under warranty!).  So I contacted HP support and they are in the process of sending me a replacement hard drive, so that I may install it.  When I opened the back of the notebook, I realized that a second hard drive could be installed, if desired.  I would be interested in doing this!  My current primary drive was (and will be again) a Toshiba 1 TB Internal hard drive Serial ATA-300 2.5" 5400 rpm, model MK1059GSM.  I understand (from reading a previous post) that for the second hard drive, I will need to purchase  a "2nd HDD Caddy & Cable for HP dv7-4000, dv7-5000, dv7t SE" (the purchase link the tech in the other post referred to was http://www.newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=345); and now I need to decide on the size (and other stats) of the hard drive that I will buy to install and used as the secondary drive.  The HP customer service rep I spoke with on the phone about my primary drive replacement said that it is usually recommended to not go any higher (in capacity) than the primary drive, for the second drive, to ensure a more "stable" system (but I am not sure about the level of"technical" knowledge he has about the inner workings of the notebooks).  However, from my upgrading experiences with desktop PCs, I was usually able to go as high in capacity as I could/desired; as long as the physical size of the drive was the same, and it was compatible with my system.  And I usually did choose to go with a larger capacity second drive, as this was where most of my data and media files were stored (with the primary being used for mostly operating system and system files).  This is my first time "upgrading" a Notebook, so I wanted to check with the techs here on the board- would it be a problem for me to go with a secondary drive larger than my primary drive's 1TB capacity?  Also, are there any other factors to consider and keep in mind when selecting a second hard drive?  Any advice and replies will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks so much for your help with this!  -Brian

You should be able to go as high as 2TB.
I also own a,(Older), DV7 notebook which has dual drive capability.
I bought my caddy from the place recommended and got everything needed including screws !
I matched the capacity in mine with an exact same hard drive and have never had a problem.
Minor battery life noticable but that was it.
Your system BIOS is what will hold you back from say a 3TB drive.
You can go to HP site and check the specs on your model and find out for 100 % sure.
HP Support & Drivers | United States
I would recommend doing what I did and match the drive exactly.
    Good day !

  • HP Pavilion Hard Drive Question

Is there any way I can add a second hard drive to my HP Pavilion dv7-3165dvx laptop?  There's a second drive bay, but no connections.

You just need to buy the second hard drive and the connections and you are ready to go. The hard drive can be purchased just about anywhere (Best Buy, Frys, online at newegg.com) and the caddy and connector are available from this company:
    http://www.newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=222&zenid=ca0f815985dbb04...
This is not "official" HP but many, many people have reported full satisfaction on this Forum with their products. They specialize in laptop hard drive caddies and I have been buying stuff from them for years.

  • HP Pavilion dv6000 Hard Drive Upgrade Question

Hello all, and thank you in advance for your advice.
I own an HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop.  It came with a Western Digital Scorpio WD800BEVS (80GB 5400rpm 8MB 2.5" SATA 1.5Gb/s) hard drive installed.  This drive finally failed after making funny noises for about 14 months, and I'm looking to replace/upgrade as the computer itself is still in good condition.  Thankfully I back everything up on an external, so nothing was lost.
I understand that a faster drive (7200rpm) will run a bit warmer, and draw power more quickly.  Power is not a concern, I rarely run the laptop without AC attached.  Anybody have an idea how much warmer a 7200rpm drive would run?  Would this be an issue on an older computer where the fans may not be as efficient as they were when new?  I do keep the vents clear and clean, so air flow should not be impeded.
    What I want:
    1) I'd like to upgade to more volume.
    2) I'd like to upgrade for speed as I frequently use the computer for photo editing (up to 18MB images using PhotoMechanic, Photoshop, Lightroom, Bridge, Noise Ninja).  I'm thinking 16MB cache and 3.0Gb/s internal would help with this.  Any downsides or compatibility issues with those upgrades on the dv6000?
    3) I intend to re-install the Windows XP Home OS that came with the machine, do the updates, and strip out all the HP/Windows extras.  Not about to purchase a new OS.
    4) Haven't checked prices yet, but I'm fairly certain it only has 1GB of RAM at the moment.  Will likely max that out to 2GB.
A quick search on Newegg brought up dozens of drives that appear to work with the dv6000.
Right now I'm between this Western Digital Scorpio Black WD5000BEKT 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s
    $75 with 5-year warranty
    And this Seagate Momentus 7200.4 ST9500420AS 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s
    $65 with 3-year warranty
Will the dv6000 accept a SATA-II drive without issues?
The original part is $45 on Amazon with comparable prices elsewhere.
Any advice on which drive to go with (especially if you've used them personally) would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you!!
    ***edit***
    Additional information:
Looking at the label, my laptop is an HP Pavilion dv6500, CNF74143HW, AMD Turion 64 X2 and nVidia graphics.
Also, I was mistaken, it came with Windows Vista Home Premium, not XP, so I will be reinstalling with Vista HP.
The RAM is HP 449929-001, it has 2x 1GB sticks already installed, not sure if this is the max or if it can take 3 or 4 GB and actually use it.

You don't give us the exact model of the dv6000 series you have but if it is an AMD processor and the model number is equal to or lower than dv6499 I would be concerned about any extra heat. If you have the Intel version I would be less concerned. The fact of the matter is that the newest SATA-II laptop hard drives draw less power and put out no more heat than before so a current 7200 rpm model would not be any hotter or draw any more power than the 80 gig you have now. However, that model series of laptops has been plagued with unexplained issues with all 7200 rpm drives and all 500 gig drives. I have been telling people here for quite some time that the optimum, low risk upgrade is to a 320 gig 5400 rpm drive.
You want more speed. A SATA-II drive will work fine but obviously will adjust down to a SATA-I connection. You do not lose much because the difference is only in max burst speed which is rarely attained anyway. I have personally installed 7200 rpm drives in dv6000 laptops and have not had a problem. I have not installed a 500 gig drive. My advice to you is to find a 320 gig 7200 rpm drive and look for one with a 16 or 32 meg cache rather than an 8 meg cache.I have also not tried one in a dv6000 but you might want to consider a 320 gig SATA hybrid drive. They cost a bit more but will be the fastest non-SSD drive you can buy:
    hybrid drive
    not hybrid
Good luck. There is a small risk of issues with a 7200 rpm drive but I think you will be OK. Keep in mind installing XP takes some special steps, all covered here on this Forum in the XP downgrade guide.
