Questions on HP Photosmart D 5160

hi, in a couple of day we will receive a new mac book pro delivered with a free hp photosmart d 5160.
1) do i need to install additional hp drivers. (on the hp website there are beta drivers v. 9.7 for the 5100 series).
2) do i only need these drivers for additional features for this printer ?
3) any experiences when i connect this printer to our apple airport base station to use this printer with other wireless macs ?
tia. M

I'm not familiar with the specific model of HP Photosmart printer that you listed but I can tell you that if it is just a printer, the drivers built into Leopard should work without any trouble. If the printer is an All-In-One (including a scanner) you will more than likely need to install the HP software that comes with it to get the scanner to work. The drivers in OS X are generally for printing only.
You say the software on the disk that comes with the printer is beta. I also suggest you check the HP support site again when you are ready to install the printer. They have posted many drivers for HP printers that are not Leopard compatible and are not marked beta and are adding more all the time.
Printers connected to Airport base stations (in my experience) are generally for printing only. Scanning does not generally work. I have not used an HP connected to Airport but I have used an Epson printer that way and it works well.
Hope this helps.

  • How do I print a mirror image on my HP D110?

I am unable to print photos in a mirror image for producing iron on transfers.  The "Mirror" image is not available in the features or advanced tabs.  If I select "Iron On Transfer" as my paper it still prints normally, not in a mirror fashion.

  • Printing dimensional accuracy

How accurate are printed dimensions supposed to be?
I encountered a problem printing a page of labels from WORD 2011. Printer is C4280 all in one. Using an iMac running 10.8.5 with all the latest updates.
By the time I get to the bottom of the sheet of labels (1" high each) the printing has slowly shifted upwards so that the first line of the label is starting to fall on the previous label. I'm using the right Avery template for the label.
Looking at the print layout of the WORD label document being printed it seems OK - i.e it's laid out on the page correctly against the ruler on the screen.
I tried printing, from Graphic Converter, a vertical line 10" long and low and behold it prints out 9 and 7/8",!  Thisis similar to what is happening with the labels.
I then tried to use the copy function on the printer/scanner and a 10 inch long dimension is rendered about a 1/8 inch short!
So.. it looks like there's no inherent problem in the Mac/HP interface but is a problem in teh accuracy in the drive on the printer. Is this a degredation in the printer? I was not aware of this problem before, but it could have been ther all along I suppose.
Do I neeed a new printer or is this what I shoud expect?

    Hi MrKenny,
    Welcome to the HP forums!
I see you have some questions about your Photosmart C4280 and the possible limitations it has on your printing. I will certainly do my best to work through these questions with you
I will start off by saying, I believe this may be a hardware limitation (as it happened on a Copy as well) but I am more than willing to make some suggestions to see if we can find anything different!
If the printer isn't already, I'd like you to plug it directly to a wall outlet for it's power source. Even the best surge protector can limit the power a machine gets so we just want to make sure the printer is getting all the power it needs to function as it should.
If that doesn't seem to change anything, please make sure you have the latest printer driver update from Apple/HP and then, if you have the HP Utility (I believe it should come with the update but if not, that's fine just let me know) I'd like you to Align the printer through the Utility.
Please let me know how things go if you can

  • Eprinting - blank page being generated

Everytime I send an attachment (.pdf), the printer via email, it will "print" or better yet cycle a blank page prior to printing the actual document desired. Nothing in the subject line or body of the email, just a blank email with a .pdf attachment - as I only want the pdf to print, nothing else.
When I arrive to the location where the printer is, I can open and wirelessly print the same document (direct, via the wireless router - not emailing).
Does anyone experience same or have a fix?
The printer in question is a photosmart premium c310

When sending an email with attachment to ePrint Center, the email prints along with the attachment.  If the email is blank, the page would be blank.  Please try adding a short message in the email and see it that is printed on the previously blank page.

  • HP C4780 feeds paper crooked and creased

I've had this printer for about 10 months, and it's starting to feed paper crooked every now and again.  When it feeds crooked, the page gets totally creased and messed up, and sometimes jams in the printer.  Sounds like a similar problem to what was experienced here: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Other-printing-questions/My-Hp-photosmart-D110-feeds-paper-crooked/td-p...
Is there any solution for this?  I'm using 20 lb. paper - within the specification of the printer.
    thanks.

Check the back door. The door you remove to clear paper jams. Make sure it's on properly. THAT cleared my paper feed problem!

The article Citrus101 posted will probably answer most of your questions.
Your Photosmart 7200 is an older printer, and is not on the list of AirPrint printers.  The least expensive AirPrint printer is in the $79 price range if you want to update.
To use your older printer, it must be connected to WiFi if it does not have it built-in.  Some Apple WiFi routers have a USB connector for a printer.  That will not work for an AirPrint printer, but may be useful with an iPad printing App.  I suggest you download the free iPad App, HP ePrint Home & Biz.  It has some limitations, but should get you printing.
Another approach is to share your computer's printer as AirPrint over WiFi.  If you want to try it, search the web for AirPrint Activator.

  • OJ 8600 Constantly loses wireless connection

My OfficeJet Pro8600 Plus works great, except when it loses wireless connection.  I have an ATT wireless router/modem.  Frequently, when the printer goes to sleep, it will not print.  The wireless icon on the printer shows good, and says connected.  But then I get the message on my computer that the printer is not connected.  I cancel the print, restart the printer and then it will work.  I also frequently get the message that scanning is also not connected.
Once I reboot the printer, it works fine.  Any ideas?

    brown7373,
If you have not done so for a while, I might suggest that you install (reinstall) the Full Feature Software for your printer.  In August of this year (2014) there was an Update to the software that may well help with the situation you are facing.
Less clear, due to the usual less than full descriptive qualities of the documentation supplied with these things (in my opinion), is the need for the accompanying firmware Update that is shown for at least those users running the Windows 8.1 Operating System.  Firmware updates, might be installed after software updates are tried -- and only at the user / owner's discretion.
General Instructions to Install the Printer Software
    Reminder:
In most cases, the Solution Center has been replaced by the Printer Assistant.
The Printer Assistant shortcut will be installed on your Desktop during the last part of the installation.
    Windows Operating System:
Create Restore Point:   Create a Restore Point – Win7 OR  Create a restore point Win8
    Open HP Drivers & Downloads
    Enter your Printer Model information
Select your Printer from the “Results” list
    OR
Open HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer - N911g Drivers
Enter your Operating System in the Drop-down menu
    Click NEXT and Scroll down
Look for category Driver - Product Installation Software
Select the Basic Driver, e-print, or Full Feature Software
Save the *.exe installation package(s) on your computer
The file(s) will likely save to the "Downloads “folder.
Be sure to look for Updates as needed for your installation. If available, you may download the Print and Scan Doctor and / or other programs from Category – Utilities.
If you have ‘Admin’ control, you may highlight the package and “double-click” to install it, else Right-Click, Select run as Administrator and install.
    NOTES:
Look at the bottom half of the main webpage for your printer for helpful videos to assist with the installation of the printer software!
Scroll the video list back and forth until you find the video that most closely matches your situation.
If using a USB connection: Download and install the driver software before connecting a USB cable.
Ethernet: Connect the printer to the network and (Optional) assign the printer an IP address at the router. Once the printer is connected to the network, be sure the printer is switched on and then install the printer software.
After the initial installation is complete and working, check / install Category - Update

What If:  Bummer - Nothing works.  Sad Story and all that.
If all else fails, you can call HP and politely ask for the printer code to switch off the sleep timeout on your printer model.  This works when everything else fails.   It is not a solution; this is a workaround and maybe not a pretty one -- there may be consequences down the road.  Switching off the sleep timer will keep the printer awake and available.

  • Photosmart Plus B209 - Photo Black Ink Question

Hi I just brought the Photosmart Plus and notice that there are 2 types of black for this printer and only one slot on the printhead for the black ink.  I am still using the starter black that came with the printer.  So my question is if I want to print a photo, do I just switch the regular black out with the photo black and switch it back when finished printing the photo? or Should I finish the starter black first then switch to photo black. TIA!!

  • Firmware upgrade question about Photosmart 7520

    Hello,
I just got my new printer today from HP and it is a HP Photosmart 7520 which is great.
I was looking online and i noticed there is a firmware update in the support section.
My question is my printer has firmware ELM1CN1409AR and on the HP site the firmware there is ELM1CN1320AR. Is my firmware the most current or the one shown on HP support site?
If my firmware is older should I update the firmware or just leave things as is?
I am not having any issues with the printer as of now, but I always check all drivers and firmware of all my products.
    Thanks in Advance
    Fred

as long as you are connected to a computer via USB...I doubt that you will experience the problems that are being SIGNIFICANTLY reported regarding the 7520.
As you saw in my post that you referenced, with a USB connection, the intermittant scanning/printing problem did not occur.
Also, please see my entry in the following post regarding the current firmware version vs what HP has posted on their support page:
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Networking-and-Wireless/7520-won-t-stay-connected/td-p/3954900
the version currently installed in your printer, ELM1CN1409AR, is the latest (as of the date of this post) that any 7520 printer connected to a router will be automatically updated to.
however, please note that for those of us using a wifi connection from the printer to a router, firmware version ELM1CN1409AR has not solved the intermittant connectivity problems.

  • How to get rid of the question mark on the HP photosmart 7525screen?

I was printing from the HP Paviliondm4 computer to the Photosmart 7525 printer and that page on the computer screen just kept reprinting together with another printing job that I had. It was hard to get rid of it, but eventually it disappeared, the doubling of printing. The problem now is that "question mark" on the printer screen appears, that the "home symbol" on the printer screen has disappeared and can't get it back, as it was the normal screen when I first used the printer. What's the problem that I can't get that "question mark" off?

    Hello @Lester7525,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you only have the question mark on your Photosmart 7525 and cannot get back the home screen back. I will do my best to assist you! Please make sure this printer is plugged into a direct wall, not a surge protector. I just want to see if this makes a difference.
Try performing a hard reset on your printer for more than 60 seconds. Leave the printer turned on> Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
Also, you can try updating the firmware to see if this helps. I will provide the HP Website where you can download this here. (It may not work since this printer is in a different menu.) Please post your results, as I will be looking forward to hearing from you. Have a great night!

  • I have a hp photosmart printer. i am trying to print a page of labels avery 5160.

When I put the label page in (Avery 5160) and click 'print', it spits out the label page and prints on a plain piece of paper instead.  Does anyone know how to fix this?  Thank you.

  • I have a Photosmart C7280 and have question s about making a network decision.

I currently have two desktops connected to a wireless router via ethernet cables.  They are connected to a single (non-HP) printer with USB cables through a USB switch.  Two laptops connect to the router wirelessly.  I could replicate the existing configuration with the C7280, but the idea of a network in which the laptops could participate is very appealing.  One of the laptops is running Windows version 7, the other computers are running Linux.  If I go for an ethernet network, will the laptops be able to connect to the printer through the router?  If I go for a wireless network, will the desktops be able to connect to the printer through their ethernet cables?  A couple of USB wirelss adapters are a possibility.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

I understand that you have some questions regarding networking with your printer.
Yes, wired network connections will have no problem connecting to a wifi connected printer.  Most routers bridge wired and wireless networks to work as a single network.  There are a few routers that separate wired and wireless networks, but these are primarily enterprise grade routers and networking equipment.
A wired desktop will be able to print to a wireless printer as long as it is connected through the same router.  Vice versa, a wireless computer can print to an Ethernet connected printer as long as it is the same router.
I recommend using a network setup for the printer, if possible, to avoid printing issues.  USB hubs have been known to cause some printing problems, though this is not always the case.

  • QUESTION:hp photosmart c4780

This new wireless printer is working great with documents from any web site BUT i cannot PRINT from word.
Excell or word documents that i can view on my imac but can't print.
Can anyone help with that question please.

I have found a similar issue with
    Windows 7
    Office 2007
    connected wirelessly
When I attempt to print excel spreadsheets with custom colors in them the print job hangs with a general error. I need to clear out that error and change my colors to one of the default colors to get it to print.
Is this a known issue and is there a workaround?

  • HP Photosmart 5510 Ink-related question

Does the Photosmart 5510 e-All-in-One need ALL 4 colours to work (Yellow,Blue,Magenta,Black) .. Because I only need to print using Black Ink ..

The Photosmart 5510 has permanent printheads. If one or more of the inks are allowed to run dry the printhead can be damaged.  To prevent damage to the printhead you will need to have ink in all the colors and black.
The document here describes how ink is used.  While the document is written for HP Inkjet printers the same principles apply to inkjet printers from other manufacturers.  In the terminology of that document the Photosmart 5510 is an IIC printer.
