Questions on Reinstalling iTunes

I know how to remove itunes, but if I reinstall itunes will the music stay in itunes or do I have to reimport everything. If I have to reimport everything is there any way to make it easy.
Please help me. I will give out points.

Hello GPAdult,
No, uninstalling iTunes, will have no effect on the music because your music is stored elsewhere (most likely your Music folder). I have uninstalled and re-installed a few times and never had any problems.
Upon re-installing iTunes will locate this Music folder and re-import everything that is located inside of it automatically.

  • Question about reinstalling itunes

I downloaded the latest Itunes, and now, it freezes while trying to update the library. I want to reinstall itunes but I am afraid I will lose all my music.
My question is, if I delete itunes, will all my songs in my library go with it?
    Mike

Your music files are in a different folder than the application. Is it really freezing? It takes several minutes to go through the library depending on how many songs you have. Go fix a snack and come back in 10 minutes and see if iTunes has finished. I speak from experience.

  • HT1926 Attempting to update Itunes, received System Error: "program can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing form computer" try reinstalling the program to fix problem. Question , if reinstall Itunes via download, do I lose my music library?

Attempting to update itunes, received system error" Program can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from computer, try reinstalling the program to fix the problem. Question, I can't access Itunes to backup library, how do I reinstall without loosing music library?

It doesn't matter and doing a manual install will not fix the problem either.  I'm looking for a solution but no luck yet.  I think Apple has given us a bad update.

  • Reinstalling iTunes Question

I did the recent iTunes update which is now giving me a message saying "MSVCR80.dll Missing" and it won't even let me open iTunes. I found a way to fix it on the apple support boards however it requires me to reinstall iTunes.
My question is... If I reinstall iTunes will I lose the cover art I manually added for some MP3s? And will the songs I have unchecked still show as unchecked? I basically just want everything to look the same as it did before.
I'm nervous that I will have to uncheck all the songs all over again/find cover art...

Your library is safe from the following process, but you ought to be routinely backing up anyway.
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (Later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.

Should you get the error iTunes.exe - Entry Point Not Found after the above reinstall then copy QTMovieWin.dll from:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
    and paste into:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
The above paths would be for a 64-bit machine. Hopefully the same fix with the " (x86)" omitted would work on 32-bit systems with the same error.

  • Reinstalled Itunes and how have 4 to 8 copies of all music (7,500). This has happened before, called apple, sorry you will need to delete each. question why does it happen and can it corrected without one song at a time

reinstalled itunes and have 4 to 8 copies of each song. This is the third time has happened over last 3 years. Called Apple, they state must delete extra songs manually, is there a quicker way and why does this happen. I have Iphone, can I delete all music and copy from phone?

Man I hear your pain, same happened to me. I never worked out a way of deleting all the duplicates and I'm guessing it occured as you imported your library more than once.
However it is possible to delete everything and copy from an ipod using different utilities out there on the net, try googling ipodutil as an expample, although I don't know if this works from an iphone but it worked for me copying everything back from an ipod into itunes.

  • Had to get new hard drive and need to reinstall iTunes

My very new PC went beserk and I had to get a new hard drive. Everything off the old drive is irretrievable. I have my iTunes library backed up to an external drive (everything is also on my iPod). However, I don't want to have to "count" the new computer as one of the five machines on which I can copy my iTunes library, since it's not technically a "new" computer but just a replacement of my not-so-old one, which was barely 9 months old before it went kaput. Is there a way to reinstall iTunes and my library without getting dinged for yet another transfer of the library? Thanks.

Hi I can't figure out how to post a question of my own, so I'm asking it on this one because it is close to mine.
I just switched from a Sony Viao to a MBP, and tried to transfer my ITunes library from the Sony to my new MBP using a USB stick. I put all the music in my music library onto the stick, it said that it used 4.99 GB, and when I tried to put the music onto my MBP it only added 1.98 GB.
I thought that maybe the music it wasn't transferring was the music I purchased on my earlier laptop, but it transfered a few of my movies that I purchased off of ITunes. Please Help?

  • I attempted to install an update to my iTunes and got a "C   Runtime Error" message. Now when I attempt to open iTunes I get a pop up that says to reinstall iTunes. But I can't open iTunes to reinstall it. How can I reinstall iTunes?

I received notification of ANOTHER iTunes update being available, so I attempted to install the update on my Toshiba Satellite laptop running Windows Vista. During the update process, two pop-up announced that I had a "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library" Runtime Error, R6034 and another pop-up that states "iTunes" iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. However, I cannot open iTunes. I get the same pop-up telling me to reinstall iTunes.
I had many songs in my iTunes library that came from sources other than iTunes, mostly my own CDs. Plus, I have nearly $100 credit remaining in the iTunes store. I'm converned I will lose the songs and store credit if I reinstall iTunes. So my questions are:
    1. How can I reinstall iTunes?
    2. If I reinstall it, will I lose my store credit and non-iTunes songs?
    Thanks,
    Jim

Nothing should be lost... However... it is both Prudent and Recommended that a backup should have been created and maintained.

  • Advice needed for reinstalling iTunes and restoring my library from backup

I have some issues with my PC (Windows XP) that are not related to iTunes. But I am about to wipe my machine clean. Here is what I plan to do:
    0) Sync iPhone with iTunes
    1) De-authorize my computer with iTunes
    2) Wipe my hard drive, reinstall XP
    3) Reinstall iTunes from scratch
    4) Restore my music library (my documents) folders from an external hard drive.
    5) Authorize my computer again
I know that authorizing the computer is necessary in order to play purchase songs. Is there anything I have do in order to use applications on the iPhone? Any steps I have missed here?
    Advice appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You better ask this question over in the iPhone forum, too - I don't have an iPhone, so don't know where the iPhone apps are stored.
Anyway - the first thing to do is deauthorize your PC.
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/authorization/
Second, make sure you have a good backup of you itunes library database.
It's the ITL file mentioned here
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1660
When you reinstall XP, make sure you use the same Windows username as before.
And make sure your exHD has the same drive letter as before.

  • What if I have to reinstall iTunes because I get an err msg?

I got an error message yesterday in iTunes that said I needed to reinstall iTunes. It said there was something missing that I needed to import and burn CD's. I have had the program up and running since December of last year. I also have about 5400 songs in my library. My question is, if I reinstall iTunes, will I lose all my songs? Also, I had some music that I hadn't transferred over to my iPod yet so I went ahead and hooked up my iPod to get the new music just in case I lose everything in my library. Well, after doing that, I was listening to my iPod and it all of a sudden shut off and had an exclamation point and something on the screen. Is this a coincidence? I was hoping that if I did lose all of my music out of my iTunes that I would be able to pull my music back off my iPod. Or would the iPod think that I purposely deleted the files and automatically take them off my iPod since they were no longer in my iTunes? But now that my iPod is acting up (and I'm sure with my luck this means I'll have to reset my iPod), am I going to lose everything from both iTunes and my iPod and have to start completely from scratch again? I haven't done anything to either the iTunes or iPod since I bought it (i.e. - upgrades). Please help!!! I don't want to lose all my music especially when it has taken me 9 months to get it to where it's at today! Just in case it's the battery, I am going to try and recharge my iPod today and see if that works and if it'll come back on. Also, I keep it plugged into a speaker system. Since this speaker system charges all the time, do you think maybe I have ruined my battery in my iPod by keeping it on the dock all the time? Thank you so much for your help!

hmmmm. if we're talking 4.9 here, what quite often fixes sudden onset messages is a
    b repair install.
go to your Add/Remove itunes, select itunes, click "change/remove", and select repair.
if no joy from that, would you mind posting back with precise details of your error message? sometimes it's easiest to send us a screenshot:

  • When I plug my iPhone 4s into my PC, I get an error message that says iTunes needs a newer version of Apple Mobile Device Support. It wants me to uninstall both the AMDS and iTunes and then reinstall iTunes. Has anyone else run into this problem recently?

When I plug my iPhone 4s into my PC, I get a message that says iTunes needs a newer version of Apple Mobile Device Support. It wants me to uninstall both the AMDS and iTunes and then reinstall iTunes. iTunes won't recognize my phone and so I can't synch it. Has anyone else run into this problem recently and how did you resolve it? Thanks!

Thank you both. I suppose I should have prefaced my question with the concern that I've read a number of other posts from people who have had a similar issue and when they tried to follow the directions, they ran into a multitude of other problems. As you might imagine, I'm hoping to avoid the creation of new problems as I try to solve this one. Thanks again.

  • Has anyone got a solution for the inability to update or reinstall itunes 10.6.3 on a windows 7 64 bit computer

I have been unable to update or reinstall Itunes to my windows 7 64 bit computer.  I have tried most of the suggestions to date to no avail.  My outcome is a dialog box that says itunes was not installed. . .  At one point, it created a situation where my CDDVD drive was disabled but a windows troubleshooter got that back working citing a "class filter driver problem" that it repaired.  Also, Itunes comes up and plays from the optical drive (and the hard drive) but will not write to the CD or refresh my podcast list.  Anyone?

Installed latest itunes update and computer tried to burn a playlist to CD and realized computer no longer recognizes my CD/DVD drive. • How do I get all the content on my IPod to sync with itunes after I reinstalled itunes after computer crashed, folders and songs no longer match?

My computer crashed back in Feb or March of this year and I just recently reinstalled itunes on it.  Once reinstalled itunes updated software.  Once this was all done I noticed that alot of songs on my IPod were no longer in itunes.  Also, the folders in itunes no longer matched what are on my IPod.  itunes says the computer is active for itunes and many songs on my IPod are on itunes but many are missing.  How do I get itunes to just sync and match what is on my IPod to include all songs and folders.  Many of the missing songs on my IPod and not in itunes are ones I purchased from itunes so they should have them.  I am getting very discouraged with itunes.  I tried to do a support call and pay the fee to have them call to address but I am stationed oversees and they would not accept my overseas number as valid.
Any help is greatly appreciated.  As stated, I just want the music now on itunes to match with my IPod to include folders.  Seems music got lost.  Any suggestions how to back up the music so if this happens again I do not have this issue.  I figured itunes would have my music or at a min just sync up what is on my IPod.
    Thanks gunner

Probably a bit late to help in this thread, but the question is asked & answered frequently.

Some of the tools linked to will only work if the iPod has a valid library. Others can scan the drive independently and some may even be able to rebuild a damaged library. The manual method towards the end should be able to recover your media regardless of the state of the library.

  • HT1351 Reinstalling iTunes, but NOT my iPad 2

I reloaded my hard drive on my windows laptop. I redownloaded iTunes and backed up my iPad 2, then restored.  It's still telling me that my iPad is synced with another iTunes library, plus it refuses to show my folders and configuration I have set up on my iPad.  I have 2 questions:
How do I get iTunes to associate my iPad with a new library created from the apps and data on my iPad?
How do I get my 6 screens of apps in the folders I created and the way I have them organized, to replace what iTunes shows, which has me on 17 screens?
    Thank you,

When I did a sync of items purchased from the iPad, I didn't have to to go in iTunes and readjust it to where I had put it.  When I update an address or add a name to contacts, I don't act as a mirror, it updates the oldest one.  These things alone tell me iTunes can see what I have and put the apps where I place them.  There has to be a way to do the two very simple things I've asked.
I don't want to use it as a backup device.  I've already transferred all the programs, apps, music and videos from the iPad to the laptop.  That tells me two way communication works.  Telling me to unpack does not resolve my problem.  Are you saying what I want can't be done?  If so, why?  Saying it isn't a backup device doesn't apply since I don't use it as a backup device.  What happens to people who don't have a backup?  With today's technology, i cannot fathom that one can't do these two simple steps.
I followed the instructions for reinstalling iTunes and setting the new install from the iPad.  The only part that did not work was placing my iPad organization into iTunes and the creation of a new library name. I've done this twice paying close attention to the instructions and yet end up with the same results.  If you don't know the answer Diesel, that's fine.  There must be someone who knows the answer.  It shouldn't be this difficult!

Thanks for the question. I understand you are experiencing issues with the latest iTunes update. Let’s troubleshoot the iTunes installation by completely removing and reinstalling iTunes and all related components (it is important to remove all components in the order listed):
