Questions on transitioning to the Tour.

Hi all,
I wish I were more of a techie...maybe then these changes wouldn't be so painful....
Yesterday I upgraded from my Curve to a Tour. With a few exceptions I've managed to tweak everything to the way I like them.
I'm having trouble with the following:
1. No memopad icon on the Tour. The icon doesn't show up anywhere. I've checked the applications folder, unhidden everything I can see, and I still can't find the Memopad icon. However, when I do a search for a known item in the Memopad, I can find it so I know it's on the device but for the life of me, I can't find the *&^%^ icon!
2. I have some photos on my Curve that I forgot to e-mail to myself before I pulled the plug on my service to change it to the Tour. I don't have memory card for either device. How can I get those files over the Tour?

I just got a Tour from Sprint, so I don't know if they are different from provider to provider, however my MemoPad is the first Icon in the Applicatoins folder. Have you gone into your "Options", "Advanced Options", and "Applications" just to make sure it is installed?
If it is not, then you may want to try to update your software through Desktop Manager and see if it puts it on there.
You should have gotten a memory card with your Tour, are you sure you don't have one? I would check the port in your tour to make sure you don't have one. If you do, just put that in your curve, transfer your photos to it, then pull them off via cable. Your other option is to install desktop manager and use that to get your pictures off your curve.

So, if you do not have the user.js file then you can rename or delete the prefs.js file (pref.js.sav) to see if that helps.<br />
Windows likely hides the .js and shows them as User and Prefs.
You can also try to delete the compatibility.ini file to force Firefox to reinitialize some other files.

Adding transitions after-the-fact

Well, Apparently I know just enough about FCE to be dangerous! I got cute and completed my project involving mostly .jpg and .tif photos, figuring out that once I'd laid it out, I'd be in a better position to "pace it" by going back and inserting dissolves and/or wipes later. I didn't know then that I should have apparently overlapped the stills for "handles." I didn't. They are cut together end-to-end. As suggested by one question here, I went back and placed an "OUT" mark a 0.05 sec on the left shot...even tried an 0.15 sec mark. It'll lay in a cross dissolve but it's so quick it may as well not be there. This is a medium to slow paced project and I'd like at least a 15-20 frames on either side of the dissolve. WHen I try to adjust duration, I get the Apple sound "thud" or similar clunk letting me know that's not going to happen. Haven't been able to use the Selection tool for highlighting and extending the dissolve at either end. I knew I should have known more about what I was doing before I started
Any help's appreciated.

VJK, I couldn't agree with you more about "Im making this way too complicated," however I've been doing exactly as you instructed: The cursor does become the two parallel bars where the transition/still meet indicating that I should be able to drag that end of the transition to the right to lengthen it (or at the other end to the left)---however, the iMac won't allow it. That's what is so perplexing. I can't find any difference between these two stills to which I've added a slow "zoom in" and another other two stills with the same "zoom in" or "pan" added where the transition worked as it should have. The stills are five to eight seconds in length so there shouldn't be a problem there. Yet, the last three transitions I've tried to lay in vary from one frame to eight frames. I've repeatedly tried several techniques and none allows me to expand them to one second.

Changing (or eliminating) the signature on email using the tour/email checking..

Hello all,
Once again i have a question for all of you. How do you change/remove the sig usaing the tour during an email message? and for that matter is there a way to set the tour so that it looks for email at a specified time? or interval? without me having to do it? I mean if someone sends me an email it will pop up on the screen telling me that i have an email, with out me having to manually do it.

Hi there, these are both aspects of the BlackBerry Internet Service.
You can change your email signature settings by logging into your BIS account on your computer, or by going to Setup > Email Settings on your BlackBerry Tour. Once you've logged in and have access, just highlight your email address, press the BB Menu button and select Edit. Scroll down and you'll see a spot where your signature is entered. You can delete or change the message there and then just save the settings and exit.
If your email address is set up correctly here, your BlackBerry should automatically download new messages as they arrived with no need for automatic retrieval. If you don't have a email address set up in BIS and are manually checking your emails via the BlackBerry Internet Browser, you will need to do the setup. You can set up most POP email accounts as well as Hotmail, GMail, etc. and some IMAP accounts. If you need assistance with this, your carrier can walk you through the setup process so that you know for future reference. In addition, they can set up your phone if you do not currently have a BIS account setup.

Question about transitions

I'm wondering: is it possible to have a transition, say an Overlap, at a different point than in between two scenes?
I have two scenes, 1 and 2. In 1, a man turns, and in 2 you see him walking away. I'd like to have the Overlap take place during the turn -- because right now the transition is at the end of the scene, and as the clip freezes there, the man isn't moving anymore during the Overlap. He's just frozen there as 2 'fades in'. So say scene 1 takes 10 seconds, and the overlap is at 0:10 now: I'd like to have it start at about 0:08. Just a tad earlier.
I hope I'm making myself clear. If not, I'll try to rephrase the question.

No.
But you can split a clip anywhere (Command-T) and use a transition between the parts, if that is what you want.
An Overlap is a bit special since it freezes the last frame of clip A and merges with clip B. If you don't want the freeze, chose another transition.

You can install the new hard disk yourself if you want to. You just need a 2'5" SATA II hard drive, which is compatible with your MacBook Pro. You can buy one at OWC > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/hard-drives/2.5-Notebook/ You can filter hard drives by computer, so press a "Click to view all...", choose your computer in the sidebar and it will give you the compatible hard drives.
There are different brands for the MacBook Pro. The most recommended are HGST and Seagate, which have good reputation. A 7200 rpm hard drive will give you extra performance

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; ways of doing so include clicking here and picking a method for your country, and filling out and submitting this form.

I'm not sure what you mean by the 'apple support contact wont open' (?). If you mean the 'contact iTunes Store support' link on the page that you posted from I've just tried it and it seems to wok ok for me, though I haven't gone as far as to actually contact them.
You can contact either iTunes Support or Apple to get the questions reset.
e.g. you can try contacting iTunes Support : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Account Management , and then 'Forgotten Apple ID security questions'
or try ringing Apple in your country and ask to talk to the Accounts Security Team : http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
When they've been reset you can then use the steps on the page that you posted from to add a rescue email address for potential future use, or if it's available in your country you could change to 2-step verification : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5570

HT1583 When burning a DVD of photos and music from iDVD, the photos blur right before the transitions and the music has about 5 second glitches here and there before the music starts again. Is there any way to burn the DVD without this happening?

Each year I am in charge of making a slideshow of photos and music for my annual company meeting. I always use iDVD to set up my photos and music and then burn the DVD to play at the meeting. Every time I burn the DVD, it blurs right before the transition of the photo. It has always done this and I'm not sure why. It will also make the music glitch in a few spots for about 5 seconds or more. If I burn another DVD to try it again, the glitches will still be there, but in different spots. I've tried the highest quality of DVD's possible and this still happens. What can I do to fix this problem?

Try disabling transitions altogether!
There is a technical reason that this breakup happens - it is to do with how slideshows can be saved within the DVD specification, they can either be recorded as 'video streams' or as a collection of 'still images'.
When you add transitions iDVD has no option but to use a video stream, this can result in terrible 'breakup' because the mpeg 2 encoder isn't designed to handle scenes that are static with a sudden short change. You can see 'artefacts' in the video stream…

'Still image slideshows' avoid the issue altogether by only showing a static image, no video compression is used & because the scene doesn't transition so it shouldn't breakup.
NOTE: Music on the slideshow is irrelevant, both types can use a soundtrack.
I cannot remember if it is possible to force iDVD to only make still image slideshows, I always use DVD Studio Pro to correctly setup DVD's. I'd suggest you use the option to save the DVD to a disk image & then open that disk image so that DVD Player can preview it, that should save on the number of test disks you burn.
If you cannot make it avoid using video streams you may be ether off making your own video slideshow in iMovie & then import that into iDVD. It may eventually look better despite being a video stream!
iDVD isn't really condusive to professional levels of control.

Where is your Calculator application located? Before you can put it into the Dock you need to remove the Question Mark. Select it with the mouse and drag it out of the until it "poofs" away. Now locate Calculator and drag its icon into the Dock.

There are more than one Applications folders. At the root level of your system is an Applications folder for all users, where most installations go. Every user, including you, also has a separat Applications folder.
Check all of them.

Do printer makers have to buy a license in order to be able to advertise that they've implemented the AirPrint protocol? Is there maybe an Apple review process in place?
