Questions on use of notes.app

Hello all.
I have a few questions on the use of notes.app.
1.) Is there a size/word limit on the touch 2nd generation?, I have OS4.1 installed.
2.) My second question is where are my notes stored/synced?
thanks,
bill

I do not know about length/size. For the latter question the Users Guide (iOS4.2) states:
Syncing Notes
You can sync Notes in either of the following ways:
In iTunes, use the iPod touch settings panes to sync with Mail on a Mac or with
Microsoft Outlook 2003, 2007, or 2010 on a PC when you connect iPod touch to your
computer. See “iPod touch Settings Panes in iTunes” on page 50.
In Settings, turn on Notes in MobileMe, Google, Yahoo!, AOL, or other IMAP account
to sync your notes over the air (iPod touch 3rd generation or later) with those
accounts. See “Adding Mail, Contacts, and Calendar Accounts” on page 1

  • Using the note app and a password prompts

When typing in the note app I am continually asked for my Yahoo! password. Entering it does not make the message go away. Please help!

Well, I've got it to work although not ideal.
    1. On my main computer (iMac) I created the playlist that I want available to control at a party.
    2. I went to iTunes settings/Sharing and selected "Share selected playlists" and checked the playlist I made for a party.
    3. I Linked my iPod to MacBook (which is outside with external speakers) using the 4 digit code
    4. iPod, Home Sharing Off
    5. Select the Library on iPod
    6. Select "More" (bottom right of iPod)
    7. Select "Shared" from the list that appears
    8. Select the computer that has the shared library
    9. Select the playlist (or lists if you created others)
This setting is allowing me to use my iPod "Remote App" to play an iTunes playlist (or the entire catalogue) from a shared library on my MacBook WITH the sound coming from my MacBook and NOT from my iMac where the original iTunes catalogue is located.
Not sure if this is the easiest way, but it's working.

  • Back up Question when using backup not Time Machine

Hi there, I currently have my Time capsule configured as a file server sharing my files between 3 macs on the TC's wifi and also via the back to my mac service, while outside my home. The 3 macs connected also use the TC as the time machine back up disk. This setup works fine but I have concerns about reports that TC's can just die and the files contained on it could be lost. To combat this I have set my macbook to perform a backup using the backup program once a day. This is set to backup the whole TC excluding the 3 Time capsule files to an external firewire disk. The problem seems to occur after about a day or two, when the backup program reports a failed backup due to not enough disk space but I don't understand this as the external firewire disk has enough space unless it is trying to carry out a complete backup again. Once the initial backup is done (about 6 hours) I can manually trigger a backup which completes in a matter of seconds and is labelled on the firewire disc as incremental and contains a few mb. Can any one explain this to me? and any posable fixes.
    Cheers
    Here are the figures.
    TC = 500GB
TC Files= 87GB (Excluding the 3 TM backups)
    Firewire drive 160GB
    Initial Backup file size 87.7GB
Successful Incremental Backup file size 4.2mb (done on same day as initial backup)
2nd Sucsesfull Incremental Backup file size 2.1mb (manually triggered day after initial backup)
Error backup file size 29kb (auto triggered day after initial backup)

The current version of Backup won't do a full backup (after the first one) unless you tell it to, via +Plan > Full Backup+ from the menubar. But it will back up everything that was added or changed since the last backup, so an Incremental backup can be quite large.
A clue may be lurking in the log for the failed backup.
From the main Backup screen, select the Plan in question, then from the Menubar, +Plan > History.+ Then select the "event" in question and click the +View Details+ button at the bottom.
If the log doesn't tell you much, copy and post it here (but if there's a long list of files copied, leave out most of that).

  • Apple's Notes App...

Hello all, I have a question about Apple's notes App.
I've had my 3G iPhone for a couple years now and I've never really used the nots App.
Within the last couple months however, I use it all the time for work.
The problem I ran into is my notes all just disappear. I'll have a few pages of notes and they are gone again.
I just synced my iPhone to my iMac and when I disconnected the iPhone I opened noted to check if they were there, and they were… For a few seconds. They then disappeared right in front of my eyes.
I assumed I was losing them when I was syncing, but the weird thing is, they don't disappear every time I sync.
    My questions are…
    What am I doing wrong?
Are the notes backed up on my computer somewhere? Not a huge issue if they are not, I'll just reenter them, but I'd love for them not to get deleted on me anymore.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Marc

Why don't you write more clearly for us what is going on. My notes remain forever!
Do you have any IMAP email accounts where syncing of notes is "ON"?

  • How can I turn Notes off in email and keep the notes in the Notes app?

This is confusing but bear with me. A little history, I am using an ipad 2 and accessing several email accounts using the device. I recently enabled the gmail 2 step authentication. Then, I couldn't get the ipad to recognize the email and the explanations for setting up a device recognition were so confusing I abandoned it. Then I just downloaded the gmail app and was able to get into gmail that way, tedious to have to use 2 different apps but anyway. So I deleted the gmail account in Settings, but all my notes disappeared.
After an hour of panic and searching I finally figured out that they are in my gmail account in a Notes folder. Whew!
    So 2 questions:
    1. Why are notes linked to email accounts, what purpose does this serve?
    2. Is there a way to move the notes to a separate folder so I can turn off the notes link?

    Hi Frances,
In the Notes App on your iPad, several "accounts" can be set up to house your notes generated from various sources. For example, on my iPad, I have the following accounts:
If I had a Gmail account with Notes enabled, I would also have Gmail listed. The reason they are linked to Gmail is because some people want to make notes for specific emails or in their email app. You can turn off notes in Gmail if you are just using Notes for notes that are not associated with your Gmail account.
Any notes you create on your iPad using the Notes App, will go into your "All Notes" folder, and your "On My iPad" folder.
If you have Notes turned on in iCloud on your iPad, and you select the iCloud account in Notes, then any Notes you create there will automatically be backed up to iCloud, and will also be sync'd to any device that also has Notes turned on in iCloud. This sync happens, basically, instantly as soon as you have a Wifi connection.
In Settings>Notes, you can select which of your vaious Notes accounts you want to use as the Default account (the one that it will be on whenever you open Notes). I have mine defaulted to iCloud. Any time you would want to change to a different account for a particular note, you can click on Notes in the top left-hand corner, then on Accounts, and then select the account you want to go to.
    Hope that clears things up!
    Cheers,
    GB

  • My notes app is "on" in my Iphone 3gs setting, but the note app will not open.  This problem just began.

I have always been able to use my note app on my Iphone 3gs until recently.  I have made no changes, no upgrades, etc.  I checked the settings and it is turned on.  It will not open and I have tried numerous times.  What could be the problem and how can it be solved?
Thank you for any advice or information.

This page is blank when loaded in Google Chrome and when using a WebKit nightly build with Safari on Mac OS X.
    I suspect there's a server-side issue still happening.

  • Mavericks Notes App not syncing with iCloud

The notes.app stopped syncing with iCloud after installation of Mavericks for users with networked home folders.  Was previously working properly with Mountain Lion.
Notes syncing is enabled in icloud preferences.
Signing out of icloud and signing back in does not fix the problem.
Unselecting the notes checkbox and re-selecting has erratic effects->a)  sometimes crashing the notes.app unrecoverably (app won't reopen after force quite).  b) sometimes crashing the icloud system preferences altogether.
All other icloud apps work fine: contacts, calendar, reminders, etc.   (all except icloud documents which is greyed out for users with networked home folders see: https://discussions.apple.com/message/23544576?ac_cid=tw123456#23544576 )
Any fixes or work-arounds?  We use our notes app extensively and this is really debilitating.

I was having the same problem with Notes not syncing. I also got duplicate notes. I found that spryt's solution fixed my syncing problem and signing in and out of icloud on my local devices finally fixed the duplicating notes problem. I am not using a networked home directory. Using Mavericks OS and believe the problem started with the upgrade.
I did notice one peculiarity: on my iMac, it shows that I'm syncing notes to "All [email protected]". However, on my Macbook Pro, Notes shows I'm syncing to "All icloud". I tried to change my iMac to "All icloud", but I can't seem to find that preference. I hope they are one and the same.
Syncing is almost instantaneous across devices including iphone and ipad now. If I find that I encounter any more problems, I'll update this thread.

  • How do i lockout notes app on ipad

I have 3 Ipads that will be used by children to play games in the dental office.  I don't want the kids using the notes app, calander app, reminders ect.  Can these be restricted?.  I have
entered restrictions in the general setting but this still allows use of above apps.a

The only apps that can be restricted are those in the general - restrictions area. Some 3rd party apps do have passwords, however - for notes, I suggest you look at Evernote (which is a more robust note-taking app than the Apple one).

  • Can Someone explain Apple's Notes App to me?

I have a couple of questions about Apple's Notes app. For one, why do I have two different notes accounts. One is from my Gmail, and the other says "From my Mac." I created neither of these directly. I have forwarded some notes to myself and I think that is what created the Gmail account. But it is just confusing.
And secondly, my notes are synced I believe. But is this syncing just part of my overall iPhone backup. Or are the notes synced somewhere else also (like in my documents folder)? Is it possible to sync them somewhere else?
    Thanks.

Do you have an option for syncing Notes over the air with your Gmail account on your iPhone? Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Select your Gmail account. Is there a selection for Notes - on or off?
The "From my Mac" means you are syncing Notes direct with the Mail.app on your Mac via the iTunes sync process, which is selected under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes.
And secondly, my notes are synced I believe. But is this syncing just part of my overall iPhone backup. Or are the notes synced somewhere else also (like in my documents folder)? Is it possible to sync them somewhere else?
Notes on your iPhone are included with your iPhone's backup, which is updated by iTunes as the first step during the iTunes sync process.

Notes are synced with the Mail.app Notes feature on your Mac which can't be synced with anything else.

  • My notes app will not open on my mac?

Not sure why this is happening, but each time I try to use my "notes" app on my Mac... it crashes.  It simply will not open.  I have no issues using "notes" on all of my other iOS devices (iphone, ipad)... but simply will not work on my iMac computer.

    Hi namrof,
Take a look at the article below, it provides some general tips that will help troubleshoot the bundled applications on your Mac.

  • "Notes" app problem

I am new to IOS7 but have tried using the "notes" app several times with poor success.  each time i put something into the notes it will disappear within a couple of weeks or sometimes the next time i use it.  is it something i'm doing or a bug in IOS7?

Go to "Settings >> Mail, Contacts, Calendars" and ensure that none of your accounts have the "Notes" option turned on.

  • I use the "notes" feature on my iphone4 for various lectures and classes. Is there any way to print these notes out?

Synching them to your computer and print it from there.

  • IPhone 4's standard "notes" app doesn't save new updates?

I regularly use the 'notes' app that comes standard on the iPhone for everything. Shopping lists, to do lists, you name it. But with the new iPhone 4, the app doesn't save new edits. I'll type in or delete something, and then after I hit done, the "thinking" thing at the top left rolls around a few times, and then whatever I just typed in disappeared, or whatever I deleted reappears. Help!

I don't live in that area (I'm in northern Orange County, CA), but my neighbor and I have been having the same problem since last Saturday (Feb. 5) in the area around where we live (we both have iPhone 4's, and they still work fine in other areas). Note that we have full bars, and the "3G" symbol on the display, but get no data over 3G; disabling 3G allows access using EDGE (slowly), and phone/texting works fine (it's just the 3G data in our neighborhood that's broken). Since we both have WiFi in our homes, we didn't initially identify the 3G problem; what we both noticed was a sudden increase in iPhone power consumption (beginning last Saturday) when we are in our neighborhood (even when the phones are idle); I used to go 3-4 days on a charge, but now the battery drops at a rate of about 10%/hour when I'm around the house. Interestingly, my neighbor also has an iPad, and it doesn't exhibit the problem. Both phones and the iPad are running iOS V4.2.1. We've tried all the normal things (rebooting, clearing network settings, etc.), and nothing works. I spent some time on the phone last night with AT&T, and they are going to send someone out to check connectivity.

  • IPod Touch ver 3.0 Notes app.

    Hi,
I've been happily using then notes app on my iPod Touch, when I noticed that one of my note pages changed the font from the "script" type font to an Arial type font. I'm not sure what I did to change it.
Is there any way to change it back?
    Thanx!
    Ron V.

    Hi RonV!
If you're using a Mac and the "Mail" application for Mac you can go to Mail and on the left side select "Reminders" and then select "Notes". A list of your notes should appear and you can then select the note that you want to change the font on. Once you've selected it you will see the "font" option in the toolbar.
If you are not using a Mac & Mail…I haven't a clue, sorry. I don't think there's a way to change the font on the native "Notes" app directly on the iPod Touch. If there is, it's news to me.
