Questions re: Passport

I have a few basic questions before I purchase a Passport:
1. How does the Personal Assistant work, especially voice replying to text messages? Is it as functional as the "Siri" or whatever her name is?
2. How accurate is typing on the keyboard. The Z30 is horrible
3. Can you create group email lists (ie a group list of 50+ names)
4. Can I restore my contact names to the Passport from my Z30 using LINK software
Thanks to any user that can respond to these questions....thanks!

  • Passport and Wind Mobile

Could someone please tell me if a Passport will work on the Wind Mobile service in Toronto Canada? Much thanks.

I had looked at a similar question for passport, so perhaps the title stayed??  In any case - I do have the correct sub-model for WIND mobile support.  Never realized there were sub models before.
So what LTE Model is your Z30? If you are just planning on taking advantage of regular 3G or 4G speed then you will be just fine with regular data plan. Im not sure what is Wind Mobile's LTE Band though, give them a call and ask them, then look at the table you posted and see if it is supported with your Z30 model. Cheers!

  • Z30 and Wind Mobile

I just purchased a Z30 from Blackberry and in checking around the cheapest plan available seems to be with wind mobile.  I can't seem to get a straighjt answer from their dealers as to whether or not it will work with their network.  Does anyone know??

  • New to the Passport... A few questions to be answered please...

Coming from a Z30 which was with Telus. The phone was great but with Telus had nothing but problems.
Told my company that I wanted to go back with Rogers so at the same time I decided to make the jump to a Passport.
Just a few questions on the differences between the Z30 and the Passport...
#1- I noticed that if I push the button on the top of the Passport (top right) when the "home screen #1" comes on, the time and date plus my screen name and additional are displayed. Why is my screen name and additional info slightly offset to the left and not centered below the date and time?
#2- Once the screen display fades out, if I then swipe my finger across it, a new version of the "home screen" (call it home screen #2) appears with a different time and date arrangement and with no screen name and additional info. Is this normal?
#3- Am I correct to assume that once you swipe the display back on (on home screen #2) no icons show up and you must swipe it again to get to the icons. On the Z30 the initial home screen had the icons on it. So is this normal for the Passport?
#4- Finally I find that "home screen" pretty boring with its gray shade. Can I load up a background picture to it like on the Z30? If yes how do I do it?
    Thanks,
    Mike

    1. I assume you are talking about lock screen message. It is what it is.
2 & 3. You are referring again to the lock screen, and lock screen notifications.
When you swipe up and go to the home screen, the default setting is wallpaper with no icons. There is now a setting to disable this in Display settings.
    4. You can set your own wallpaper. That hasn't changed.

  • New WD My Passport for Mac - questions!

    Hi, everyone,
I just bought a new WD My Passport for Mac 1 TB. I am going to use it to run Time Machine and then drag and drop pertinent files that I need. From there, I am doing a clean install of Mountain Lion. I have a 2012 MacBook Pro.
I just have a few questions.
    1. I read that there are big issues with this and Mavericks/Yosemite. If I ever upgrade, am I am going to lose everything or has that since been resolved?
    2. How do I install it? When I read the manual, I am not sure if I am supposed to install the software (because of issues with point 1), just plug & play, how to do Time Machine, and so on.
I have another My Passport from a few years back, but don't remember how to set it up.
If someone can dumb it down for me, I'd really appreciate it. I am looking to do a Time Machine, then drag over various documents, my Music folder, iPhoto Library, Mail exports, and a few other things.

Thank you again. It's really nice there are people like you willing to give their time to help others.
An update: My Passport (not named that!) is backing up via Time Machine as we speak. Next step is to copy the files that I need over to the hard drive. I already have on another hard drive, but I figure it is better to be safe than sorry.
My question for you is basically if there is anything I should try to think about or remember to bring over. These are the things that I use regularly and what I have done on the other drive and will do here:
    - Microsoft Office (mostly just Word): I will reinstall the disk, I have the activation code, and I will drag over all of my files
    - iMovie: I've made one movie, and I like it, and I dragged it over and tested it on another MacBook and know it works
    - iPhoto: I will drag over iPhoto Library
    - Mail: I have exported all of my Mailboxes, will re-import them, and then re-set up my accounts
    - iTunes: I dragged over iTunes Music from the Music > iTunes > iTunes Music folder (?)
    - iCal/Notes: logging back into iCloud should do it
    - Stickies: I know there is a database in the ~library ... do I just drag that over?
    - Chrome: I will download it again
    - my printer: I think I just go to the site to download the driver
    - Airport Express: does that just work on its own?
    - Dropbox: I will redownload it but, heck, I might just drop my account
    - Bookmarks are exported from Chrome
    - iCal is exported, just in case.
    - Contacts are exported, just in case
I don't THINK there is anything else I am forgetting that I might use regularly and not realize it. Do you have any suggestions of something I might be missing? I do have an iPhone backup I might want to snag (I know it is stored elsewhere...) but I am thinking of wiping that clean, too.
Should I take note of any specific security or user settings I have (other than basics, like colors and that sort of stuff)
I am nervous that I will forget something but excited to have a nice, fresh new MacBook and fool myself into thinking I got to treat myself to something new!

  • Pre-Sales Question: Passport Deploy

Hello, I work with a company that is considering transitioning to Passports. The current holdup is the 17MB size limitation for outbound messages (kb34189). Our team tends to e-mail 30-50MB at a time and needs to do so very quickly thus does not have to time to split into multiple messages.
Does anyone who views this forum know if there is a timeline to impliment the 17MB limit as a user selectable toggle or to remove that limit and have limits only imposed by BES?
    Thank you.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Well, I'll start at the beginning...emailing huge files is something that every email administrator will cringe at. You see, when you email such things, especially to "outsiders", you wind up bogging down many many systems along the way (all of the gateways that have to process the huge emails). And everyone is impacted by such activities. And you also will be limited by those various gateways, each of which could have their own limitations placed by their admins (and, some of them may even just drop the email away without so much as a kindly rejection notice!).
So, in reality, the best thing to do is to not send large emails...instead, place the large document onto some server somewhere, and send via email only the link to the document. All email admins will bless you greatly if you can make such a change in behavior happen.
All of that said, if you cannot make such a change, then the answer to your questions is thus -- no one here, in this user-to-user community, has any access to information necessary to provide you with answers to questions that require forward looking information.
    Good luck!

  • My Passport - Newbie Question

I have recently purchased a My Passport for Mac external hard drive and have this one question:
Can I install and run programs (for example, I'd like to download Skype) onto the external hard drive?

If programs are simple applications which you can copy in, rather than requiring the installation of support files as well, then probably you can. More complicated applications may act up if they aren't in the Applications folder, and Apple applications won't update when required if they are in the wrong place.
Skype should probably OK, though I've never tried. Just try - if it doesn't work, you can just move it back.

  • Two-fold question, can I export pictures from iphoto to an external drive? I have not been able to create volumes on My Passport for Mac when exporting photos, why is that?

I have a Mac Book Pro that I use iphoto 6 for my pictures. However, I noticed my hard drive was filling up too rapidly so I purchased a WD My Passport for Mac 500GB. I select photos(the number does not matter), click File>export, and select the location(and yes, I specify the size of picture's maximum, and the file extension, and I click Export and the export initializes and then stops. Telling me that it is unable to create the volumes ont the My Passport. There is plenty of space on the hard drive. I don't know what I am doing wrong. It seems like the process should be very simple to MOVE, COPY, EXPORT photos. Why is this so difficult? What am I doing wrong?

My photo library cumulative is maybe 1.3 GB tops, however I back it up to the external drive every upload. I don't think the issue is converting calculations because as I said in my previous post, sometimes when I stop transfer to the SD flash drive and restart the copying process it will complete the library of 60-80 photos in about 2 minutes like it should. The issue is that it will not proceed to copy most of the time, and the copying status bar says preparing for a long time

  • Question Keyboard Design on Passport

Just curious why the drastic keyboard design limitation on the new BB Passport.  I really like the looks of the phone, but am stumpt at why the missing functionality on the hard key - keyboard.
I cannot speak for everyone else, but my loyalty to Blackberry (Late 2000's to now) has been because of the hard keyboard functionality.
Seems like the engineers could not make up their minds to put hard keys or soft keys.
Not for certain I will buy into a less than fully functional keyboard on my blackberry.  Guess I will just keep my old 9930 until it dies.

I must admit that it took a few days to get used to the mix of physical and virtual keyboards, coming from a 9810 with full "traditional" BlackBerry keyboard, but now my fingers fly.

  • Questions before I buy a Passport

    1. If I buy a new Passport today, what version of the operating system will it come with? I have read all the horror stories about updates and battery drain posted since October of 2014. Will I have to immediately update my phone?
    2. No where does it say what cables come with the phone (power, car, sync). Does it come with anything, or do I need to buy all the extras? Where is THAT website?
    3. Not being able to lock the screen like the Bold 9900 concerns me greatly. From what I have read, it is suggested that I NOT put the phone in my pocket (or purse) without a bulky case on it, because there's no way to lock the screen. Really? Who is designing these phones?
    4. Is it better to buy from the Blackberry shop or go through Amazon.com?
I am the last of the Blackberry users down in Texas. Reading this website makes me wonder if I should just throw in the towel and get a Galaxy. I love my Bold, but am not getting a warm and fuzzy feeling reading any of the new phone listings, not the forum messages.

1 Mine came with 10.2 and the update worked fine.
2 it comes with a USB micro charge/sync cable with a high output charger
3 keep screen facing out with top up and use a password or get a pouch or flip case. I keep mine in my pocket with out issue mostly. once in a while i turn it off by mistake.
4 both are ok, I never had an issue with either one

  • Can I upload a Time Machine backup (Passport) made on my computer to my husband's computer?

I'm afraid that my present Macbook is starting to have problems.  I have an old Time Machine backup that I made on a Passport USB drive last year (using OS 10.6) so I can transfer the contents of my computer to my husband's Macbook (also OS 10.6).  But when I connected the Passport, I got a message saying, "This backup was created on a different computer.  If you reuse this backup it can no longer be used by the original computer."
I'm not sure what the implications of this are.  I'm pretty sure I created the backup on my computer, but it might have been made on my husband's computer.  In any case, I'd like to make a new one on my computer and upload it to my husband's as planned.  Question:
    1.  Is there a way I can check to see which computer the backup was made on?
    2.  If it's an old backup of what's on my computer, is there a way I can update it, rather than go through the long process of creating a new backup?  (The USB drive is 1 TB, so an original backup takes forever!)
    3.  If it's a backup of what's on my husband's computer, can I overwrite it ("Reuse Backup"?) and then upload it to his computer?
Thanks for any information out there!

    1. Hook up the drive to your husband's computer. If you don't get the same error message, then it is likely a backup of his computer. If you don't get an error message when attached to your husband's computer, enter Time Machine and check the admin user name.
    2. Depends on answer to first question. If it is your computer, start a backup.
    3. You can have 2 backups on the same drive. If it is your husband's backup, just start a new one for your computer.

  • I downloaded IOS6 and all my apps, including the App Store icon, disappeared. If I go to the Passport icon, there is an App Store button, but I have to search through all the apps to find the one I want  and then click on "Open" to use it.  Help!

I downloaded IOS6 and all of my app icons, including the App Store icon disappeared. Now to use an icon, I have to go to Passport and click on the App Store button at the bottom and search through all of the apps to find the one I want and then click on Open. There doesn't seem to be a way to delete the app and start over.

    Hey PlayerPS,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like the application you are looking for is indeed still on your iPhone. You can confirm this by searching in the Spotlight Search for this application. It may have accidentally been moved to a folder, or an additional Home screen:

  • Can I back up two users on one partition on Passport?

I just bought a 1TB WD Passport external hard drive for travel and in case my present 250 GB Passport fails.  I'm in the process of formatting it for Mac.
I set it to format with only one partition even though we're a 2-Macbook household, and it's now too late to change that (Passport says I can't repartition it once the deed is done).  My question:  Can I put the entire contents of both computers on a single-volume external hard drive?
I've never used Passport on the other Macbook, but both are OS 10.6.8, so I assume it would be no problem to set up Time Machine on that one as well.  However, since I've never actually seen what a hard drive with more than one partition looks like, I don't know if it's a good idea or not.  I'm sure everyone involved in manufacturing these things is smart enough to figure out a way to keep the data from the two different hard drives from getting scrambled together on the Passport, but I don't know what else could go wrong.  For instance, if everything is on one partition, would that mean the Passport somehow couldn't be used as a startup disk for one or the other (or both)?
Thanks for any suggestions.  No rush--since the formatting itself takes 9 hours and Time Machine then takes at least another couple of hours, it looks like I have plenty of time!

  • BB Passport: After upgrading to 10.3.1, the USB key are not seen by the OS

    Blackberry Passport:
After upgrading to 10.3.1 Any kind of USB key is not seen by the OS, even after restarting the operating system.
With original OS 10.3 could connect USB key to transfer my photos with file manager.
    Any suggestions?

There a lot of issues being discovered by users doing the upgrade OTA or using Link. And they are varied. It's had to say whether your problem another of these issues or something else. Those I trust are recommending a clean OS install using an autoloader as so far there are not the same problems afterward.
You could try the autoloader route. Do a backup first. After the clean OS install, test before you do a restore and install app. If problem is gone, then you know the clean OS works. The next question will be if the problem returns when you restore or add apps.

  • MacBook Pro crashed, and then question mark folder appeared

So I have a MacBook Pro, the other day I left my computer on sleep mode as I always do. I open my computer to find a screen that is slightly grey, like the picture link: http://farm1.staticflickr.com/55/126466201_486bff5598.jpg
I've had this happen to me before, and so I restarted it without worries.
First I held down the Power button for 3-5 seconds and then it powered off.
I'm not one to have patients as I am a teenager, so I quickly booted the computer on.
I had the signature Mac chime, and then it went to a grey screen, I went to get something to drink, as I remembered Mac's take quite the time to boot back up.
I came back to the same grey screen with a flashing folder with a question mark on it. I was now in panic mode. I lucky had my trustee iPhone by my side and quickly described my problem, found many articles on solutions, but nothing truly worked. I tried the "Hold C and turn on power at the same time", "Safe boot by holding Shift", "Try PRAM", and blah blah blah.
At first I was missing my Install disc, as many of the articles stated, my problem may be resolved by using the disc. I am a teenager, this disc could be ANYWHERE, so thinking on my feet, I went to my mothers laptop case and found her Install disc (which was 10.6.7, my computer was running 10.6.3). I didn't realize the difference until much later.
After a few hours of trying to fiddle around with my moms disc, I decided to go on a hard core hunt for my disc.
Hours later, my room in a huge mess, I found my disc, under my bed (of course).
It took me an hour to figure out how to get my moms stuck disc out of my MacBook.
I found that solution through another article.
So I put in my Install disc and I went to go backup my MacBook with my external hard drive, and I went through the steps required and I thought forsure it was fixed and done, until this: http://tinypic.com/r/hupto4/5
    I'm stuck.
I've been sitting trying to fix this for at least 12 hours now, and I have had minimal success.
    --Questions
1.) Could I have damaged something, by putting my moms install disc in?
2.) Where did my hard drive go? Could I have possibly deleted it?
3.) Is this the end for my MacBook Pro?
