Questions regarding going from iPhone 3G to iPhone 3G s

I have the iPhone 3G, and want to get the iPhone 3G s.
I have had my (AT&T) phone contract since 12-30-08. So, it hasn't been a year yet.
If I were to go to the store and purchase the iPhone 3Gs (32 GB), could I simply pop-out my SIM card, put it in the iPhone 3Gs and start using it?
If so, how much would it cost?
Also, could I give my old iPhone to my little brother, and could he get a new SIM card and start using it?

Your SMS messages will not transfer to a new phone. Also, make sure you have gotten all of the pictures off of your phone that you've taken with it as those won't transfer, either.
I have read that MarkSpace has a program that will download your text messages, but have not tried it out myself.

    I have Lion on my laptop and I want to back up my calendar TO my iphone. Not the reverse. iCloud only goes from iphone to iCloud to mac not the other way. Also, why doesn't "sync" mean update most recent changes across all devices? I thought that was the point of iCloud. Any suggestions since iCloud doesn't seem to work?

    It's a work computer so I wanted to save them to my iTunes so I can access from another computer.  Should I go to a home computer and just Import for best results?  If so how do I do this?  Also, why would I be synched with another library and how do I find out what this is?  Very new/green user here

  • Questions regarding upgrade from 4th gen to 5th gen iPod

    I recently received a new 80 gig 5th gen iPod and had 2 questions regarding it and my old 40 gig 4th gen. PC meets minimun requirements and is running XP Pro.
    1) Do I need to do anything before synching the new 5th gen iPod with my existing Library (i.e. uninstall iPod Updater for 4th gen)?
    2) If I don't need to uninstall the 4th gen Updater, can I run both iPods off the same Library, same user (obviously not simultaneously)?
    tia - joggy
    N/A   Windows XP Pro

    Hey, joggy!
    1) No, I don't believe you do. Be sure to disconnect the 4th gen iPod before connecting the 5th generation iPod to the computer.
    2) Yes, you can.
    There are basically two methods with managing muleiple iPods on one computer:
    Method 1 - Create different Windows users accounts for each resgistered iPod on this computer.
    Method 2 - Create a playlist in iTunes for each iPod.
    To make Method 2 work, connect one of your iPods, and click on it in the left-source panel.
    Under the "Music" tab, and set your option for a specific playlist(s) under the "Sync Music" option.
    Do the same with your other iPod; not connected at the same time, though.
    For more details on this matter, check out Apple's Support article about it:
    How to manage multiple iPods using one computer
    I hope that helps you.

  • Going from iPhone to iPhone 3G Question

    So I just got my iPhone 3G today. It only has software 2.0 on it so when I plugged it into my computer, iTunes had me upgrade it 2.0.1 because the backup of my other iPhone was 2.0.1. So I updated my iPhone 3G. How do I tell it to change to my old iPhone's backup? Do I click restore? If so, does it bring up an option allowing me to restore it to my old iPhone's backup?

    Anthony,
    I just made the switch from 2G iphone to 3G this past Tuesday. You will need to restore then you will get an option to restore from back-up(as long as you synced your 2G recently!). Be prepared for a long restore process, mine took around 3 hours. However, when finished, everything was great and my 3G reception and GPS have performed flawlessly. Good luck!

  • No voice going from iPhone to other phones

    hey guys,
                   i have an iPhone 4 5.1.1 software. I am having this problem recently. When i call somebody i have a conversation of about 2 seconds then my voice stops going to them but theirs come.....i keep saying hello but the other person cant listen but i can listen them.....when i call the the same carrier as mine the conversation goes fine( no interruption).....so is it a hardware problem or cellular problem because my friend called me from some other carrier and he has an iPhone the conversation went fine......
    Could you guys please help me because i have been texting everyone from the last week and each second i have been typing. My thumb is hurting.....
    Regards,
    Avengers 20

    Sounds like a network or account problem.
    If it works when contacting another individual on a different carrier it can not be a hardware issue.

  • General question regarding "parallelism" of iPhone execution

    I've got a general question and hope somebody can shed some light on this.
    While I'm relatively new to iPhone development I've been in software programing for more than 15 years now and have a solid background in Java, C, C++, C# and other languages. I've created a couple of applications for the iPhone, easy and complex ones, some using UIKit, others using Open GL and Open AL. With that said I think it would be fair to say that I know pretty much what I'm talking about.
    For those who tend to refer everybody back to the Apple Samples or PDF guides, please believe me, I've read them all.
    Here's my "question":
    I occasionally ran into a situation where I got the impression that code on the iPhone got executed in a "non sequential" or "parallel" manner even when I did not explicitly created threads. I'm not referring to code buried in a framework or so, I'm talking about code I've written. (English is not my mother tongue, so please excuse me if my explanation might be somewhat difficult to understand.)
    I try to give an example. Assume a code snippet like this:
    _gameEngine = [GameEngine alloc];
    [_gameEngine initSomeStuff];
    In my understanding the second statement (the initSomeStuff) gets executed once alloc returns and _gameEngine for sure is a valid pointer. Is that fair to say? I sometimes got the impression that the iPhone starts executing code without waiting that a method returned.
    I had similar issues when I tried to show an ActivityIndicator while another method was doing a lengthy operation. Pseudocode like this:
    [_activityIndicator show];
    [self longLastingOperation];
    [_activityIndicator hide];
    In code like the one above: Can I be 100% sure, that the hide message is not sent until longLastingOperation returns? I ran into a situation where I had the impression that show and hide got called immediately without waiting until longLastingOperation returned.
    Final example:
    [self performSelectorOnMainThread:@selector(doSomething) withObject:nil waitUntilDone:YES];
    [self nextStatement];
    -(void)doSomething {
    [self longLastingOperation];
    1.) In the above code, I understand the idea is that doSomething will be executed on the MainThread and that nextStatement will in no way be executed before doSomething has returned. Is that true?
    2.) doSomething is supposed to run on the MainThread but does this hold true for longLastingOperation, too? Or could it be that longLastingOperation WITHIN doSomething gets dispatched to another thread and doSomething returns PRIOR to longLastingOperation been finished?
    This might all sound pretty wired but as I said from time to time I ran into a situation where I got totally confused as to how stuff executes in – or out of – sequence. I helped myself with using NSNotificationCenters etc. but I'd like to understand what's going on in detail and crystal clear here.
    Your help is more than appreciated.
    Thanks,
    R.

    It is never safe to assume that any allocation was successful, and while it's incredibly unlikely that you're running into any such situation, it's entirely possible for a formal protocol to declare that a given message send should return immediately without waiting around:
    http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Cocoa/Conceptual/ObjectiveC/Articles/ch apter13_section_8.html#//appleref/doc/uid/TP30001163-CH9-BAJIGHAF
    An "impression" doesn't prove much unfortunately, so I'd recommend getting friendly with the debugger to see what's really going on.

  • Can you help me solve ical synch problem going from iPhone to MacBook Air?

    My iPhone calendar contains a lot of important meetings. I am about to migrate from my 3GS to iPhone 5 but since I cannot seem to properly synchronize my iCal from my iPhone to to my MacBook Air, i.e. I cannot see any events from my iPhone in my Mac's calendar. I am thus afraid to activate and jump to my iPhone 5, which is collecting dust at this point, because if this calendar fails to reemerge from the "Cloud" I am in deep horsedung.
    I have all of the iCloud settings turned on for synching. I have gone to Storage and Backup and hit Synch Now and that update seems to occur via any feedback my iPhone is giving me.
    I have a suspicion that since I was forced to create a 2nd account in order to synch "Notes" to the iCloud that such may be causing some of the problems, but honestly, prior to doing that I synched to iCloud so this inability to see my iPhone calendar on my Mac is more longstanding.
    I also cannot seemingly log out of iCloud with one ID on my MacBook Air and sign in with another without iCloud telling me that I am going to lose all of my Contacts and previous data that I synched up with the current ID. What's that all about? That does not seem like typically brilliant Apple Design to me. Most of end up with more than one Apple ID, especially since the "Notes" synch forces you to sign up for yet another iCloud ID. I thoroughly researched that problem online at many forums before reluctantly adding another Apple ID.
    My environment is MacBook Air OS X 10.7.4 and 3GS with IOS 5 (iPhone 5 with undoubtedly IOS 6 sitting in the hangar)
    Thanks for any insight in advance.

  • A few questions regarding my new iPhone

    A few questions:
    1. I notice that if I am browsing a second page on my browser for about a minute and then navigate back to my first page... it's "blanked out" and am forced to refresh. Is this normal? Any way around this? Not particularly useful when on Meebo or when I'm trying to compare movie time on two different movie theatres.
    2. Is there any way to save images from a site or from an email to my phone? I know I can't receive MMS so I thought I'd email me a picture to add it to my contacts and couldn't find a way. I also browsed online for an image and couldn't save it nor add it to a contact either. Any way to do this? I had to wait to get home and sync the images to my phone.
    3. I noticed that the iPhone's connector is the same as my iPod's connector, but if I plug it into my iPod's dock, a warning comes up that warns me it's not designed for the iPhone. Will I harm my iPhone if I plug it into my car charger, wall charger, dock that's AVed into my TV? I'm just really worried that it'll screw my phone up.
    4. I read somehwere I can open PDF's on my iPhone. Can I save a PDF to my phone and open it somehow?
    Thanks!!

    This is normal - in my experience anyway but not with all websites. It doesn't do the same when I have one page open on these discussions, navigate to another page and then back, the discussions page I had opened is not refreshed.

    Not supported from a website or from a received messages. You must do as provided with your last sentence - at the present time anyway.

    If you get this warning you shouldn't ignore it. Even though the connection type might be the same, if the device is not compatible with the iPhone it can cause problems or potential damage. There are auto chargers that specifically indicated - made for or compatible with the iPhone. I purchased a car charger that is compatible with my iPhone and with my iPod with video.
    You can alway check with the manufacturer of the device to determine if the device is also compatible with the iPhone regardless the warning but this should be in writing via their website or provided via email.
    4. I read somehwere I can open PDF's on my iPhone. Can I save a PDF to my phone and open it somehow?
    You can view PDF, Word and Excel documents attached to a received email from within the received message but you can't save the attachments outside of the message.

  • Going from iphone 4 to 3gs and applecare

    Hi all,
    I have a iphone 4 and bought a iphone 3gs brand new of ebay. Can I transfer my existing applecare from the iphone 4 to the 3gs once activated? I'm going back to a 3gs. I have my receipt and agreement number from when I bought the applecare.
    Thanks
    Larry1335

    The process to transfer Applecare is written in the agreement, from the US Applecare terms & conditions:
    Subject to the restrictions set forth below, you may make a one-time permanent transfer of all of your rights under the Plan to another party, provided that: (a) the transfer must include the original Proof of Purchase, the Plan's Certificate and all of the Plan's packaging material, including printed materials and these Terms and Conditions; (b) you notify Apple of the transfer by sending, faxing or e-mailing notice of transfer to Apple Inc., ATTN: Agreement Administration, MS: 217AC, 2511 Laguna Blvd, Elk Grove, CA 95758, U.S., fax number 916-399-7337 or [email protected], respectively; and (c) the party receiving the Plan reads and agrees to accept the Terms and Conditions of the Plan. When notifying Apple of the transfer of the Plan, you must provide the Plan Agreement Number, the serial numbers of the Covered Equipment being transferred and the name, address, telephone number and email address of the new owner.

  • Going from Iphone to Android

    What are people's experiances?  Been having trouble with AT&T service but like the Iphone 3G, but have been thinking of switching for a while.  Service is not terrible but I do drop calls now and then.  Thinking of going to the Incredible or X, or waiting till the end of the year for the new HTC.  If my car did not synch with the Iphone music easily and my home stereo have an Iphone docking port I would have swithed already.  Anyone already switch and what are your experiances?

    From what I uderstand.. It's mainly a learning curve. A friend dropped calls often, but we live in Ohio, so I always figured it wasn't as AT&T friendly as Verizon was (Which seems to be the major service provider here). When he first got his DINC, he was like "UGH" "ERR" "Wha the #$^*" for a little while until he figured out his phone's perks and how a few apps make the huge difference. He loves it now.. He sometimes just stares at his wallpaper (I think his has stars shooting and twinkling in the background) and everytime I look, he seems to be doing SOMETHING on it.. he has had his iPhone since launch I believe and he is obsessed with playing on a smartphone, again.. Haha. Personally I only ever had the Incredible and I will NEVER EVER EVERRRRR complain about its features. To a few (if not many) review websites..they give incredible a tenth of a point more than the current iPhone.. overlooking the whole "holding the phone wrong" deal. That's a big deal, in my opinion, but again, I say it is preference.
    Overall, I would have to tell you to go in to a Verizon store (non-"premium" crap store) and play with a few phones. That's what I did when I was looking around at the iPhone at Apple's store and  at Verizon's. (I was actually going to switch over to AT&T... I can only imagine my hassle right now since I'd probably be in a "dead zone" knowing my luck) I personally played with MotoDroid, It's ok....   Had a built in keyboard which Idc about, honestly. Had nice features, screen, dah-dah.. Went over to the Incredible? I loooooooved the UI, the touch keyboard was pretty flawless, no problems for me, there. great camera, etc.. Went home and ordered. Then the iPhone 4 came out.. I actually looked at that but after online complaints and being used to the DINC's only realy "flaw" being no front camera (Idk when I'd use that...I doubt I'll find many in Ohio that honestly HAVE that phone.. lol I have yet to notice someone but my friend have the DINC. let alone a NEW iphone) I might go and play with the X today,but I doubt I'll switch I just want to take a peek ..I didn't like moto's interface and my DINC is a big screen already, almost pushing it.. I love compact phones with tons of features.
    I hope that helps.

  • Going from iPhone 3GS to iPhone 5 and Mac OSX Tiger

    Hello,
    I currently have one of the first Intel Mac Book Pro's running OSX Tiger.  I also have a 3GS running ios 4.1 which I'm about to upgrade to the iPhone 5.
    What is the best way to back-up/transfer my contacts/txt's/etc from my 3GS to my 5?  I can't run the latest version of iTunes and eventually this year I will upgrade to a new iMac which would solve the problem...but for now I would like to transfer all my data over.
    Thanks,
    Mike

    The problem with that is my current iphone is running ios 4.1 and my laptop is running tiger so I don't have icloud.  Without upgrading to snow leopard and then to lion/mountian lion to get icloud is there any other option?

  • Questions about upgrade from iphone 3gs to iOS4.

    hello.
    Anyone of you guys know that if my current 3gs is upgraded to the new iOS4, can all my apps from 3gs be able to work on the new iOS4?
    Also is the battery features from the iOS4 apply on my current 3gs?
    thanks!

    can all my apps from 3gs be able to work on the new iOS4?
    Most of the Apps should continue to work fine, or be updated soon to work with iOS 4. Developers have had access to it for a long time, giving them chance to update their Apps if necessary.
    Also is the battery features from the iOS4 apply on my current 3gs?
    What battery features?
    Nothing is shown here: http://www.apple.com/iphone/softwareupdate/

  • Question Regarding "Find My iPhone" App (Used On Macbook Pro)

    Here's what I lost:
    - iPod Touch 8BG (I got the iPod in August of 2009)
    - The iPod SHOULD be in my house.
    Here's what I'm trying to find my iPod with:
    - "Find My iPhone" App on iTunes
    - MacBook Pro (Mac OS X Version 10.5.8) My laptop was also purchased in August of 2009, and my software is up to date.
    Here's my main question: Is it possible to use the "Find My iPhone" App on my computer to help me find my missing iPod if I DO NOT have the "Find My iPhone" App on my iPod? I would assume that the answer to my question would be "no", but I'm not very familiar with apps.

    You need to pay to update the OSX on your Mac.
    Mountain Lion (OSX 10.7.x) requires
    General Requirements
    OS X v10.6.8 or later
    2GB of memory
    8GB of available space
    Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
    Supported Models
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
    MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
    MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
    MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
    Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
    Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
    Also since you said you have iPod Touch 8BG (I got the iPod in August of 2009), that iPod is a 2G iPod touch that does not Support iCloud. However, if you previously subscribed to the paid MobileMe you might be able to find it but since you can;t log into iCloud you can't do that.
    Sorry but you are out of luck finding your 2G iPod except the old fashioned way, lokk for it,.
