Questions Regarding SCCM 2012 Deployment

I have been tasked with finding out if SCCM 2012 Config Manager is capable of the following task:
1) Capturing a User Profile
2) Backing up the profile
3) Wiping the target drive
4) Applying an OS image
5) Restoring backed-up user profile
Is this possible with SCCM 2012?
Let me know, thanks!

Hi,
Yes it is possible, a refresh scenario.. here is a video example

  • SCCM 2012 deploy windows 7: how to manage network/server load?

     Hi,
Hypotetically, if you would deploy Windows 7 to hundreds of pc’s at once, how could you manage that, regarding organizing the deploy, regarding network/server load? F.e. you deploy to a collection which has 500 pc’s, users can select when
to load the OS (Windows XP, we deploy the SCCM 2012 client, they can choose when to install)
*How can you be sure network is not overloaded?
*Can you limit in SCCM 2012 bandwith usage?
    Please advise.
    J.
    Jan Hoedt

You need to be as local as possible. You can host a deployment point role on a client OS such as windows 7 so you could temporarily setup one machine hosting OS images and then rebuild it last as well.
On a 100MB LAN with DP's hosted in a datacenter (not on subnet) we get to about 75 machines building at once before we see TFTP timeouts on PXE booting due to load on the local network. I would get your build as quick as possible and then do them in increasing
block sizes whilst monitoring the network and server load.
To speed up builds you could...
Build and capture to get a WIM file with most apps and updates in it.
Change the TFTPBlockSize registry settings on the DP's (If PXE booting) to as high as it will go
Host WIM files on your DP's with the Package share settings configured and enable the "Access content directly..." option in the Apply Operating System part of your task sequence.
    Hope this helps.

  • SCCM 2012 Deployment Packages and Applications deployment order

Hello I have an application which deploys Office 2013 through SCCM 2012 I then want to copy some templates to two directories in Office. I have added a script the OFC tool which is suppose to run after the install. But the files don't appear. If I run the
same script manually all the files are copied. I ended up creating a package just for the Office Template files, but I have to run this manually afterwards. Should I Persist with the script or is there a way to run the package automatically after the application
    deployed has run?

Sounds like best solution is to create an MSI that can copy the template files and deploy as an application after Office Install. Is this something I can do in Install Shield?
Seems weird that they would have an option in the MSP to run a script but it doesn't work.
I wouldn't go to that trouble myself, but that's because I don't author MSIs as part of my role (we have a packaging team who do that task, and they seem to regard authoring an MSI as the solution for everything ;)
the ConfigMgr AppModel happily caters for all kinds of payloads, despite referring to them as "applications" there is no requirement for the payload to be an MSI.
MS have long documented that the "run scripts" and "chaining" features of the Office setup engine are "not robust" (i.e. not very tolerant, are a one-shot kind of thing). Some seem to work just fine, others have no joy with it. I don't use it myself, there
are plenty of other methods, but I find it comes down to what you are comfortable/confident/familiar with. Everything has pros and cons, and above all else, I've found that it's my/our assumptions/understandings that tend to be why things go off-course.

  • App-V 5.0SP2 question with SCCM 2012 CU4 (functionality vs full support with R2)

I understand that for App-V 5.0 SP2 and SCCM 2012 SP1 integration at least CU4 is required but R2 with CU1 for full functionality.
I’ve attached an image from some session that someone else gave me. I have questions after looking at the slide since there are no details on what is not fully supported with CU4 pre R2.
Since we have immediate plans to add CU4 to our SCCM 2012 SP1 environment can anyone please give us a break down of what functionality is not available in App-V 5.0 SP2 before we go all the way up to SCCM 2012 R2?
On another note does anyone have any clue what TechED session that was from so I can see the replay?
Thanks very much for any info on this.

    Hello,
As per the slide - CU1 is required for full support with R2.

If the command-line you gave ConfigMgr runs successfully, there's not anything else ConfigMgr can do. Thus the logs above don't add any value. Thus, the issue lies with the MSI. Where did you get it from? Have you tried running it with the /l*v command-line
option to add verbose logging and then reviewed this log file? Have you tried manually testing using the System account (done using psexec) to more closely emulate how ConfigMgr invokes the command-line?

  • SCCM 2012 : Deploying System Center Configuration Manager 2012, Required Desinging Help.

    Hi,
I required some one to help designing an SCCM 2012 Solution. I dont have any knowledge on Design Part,  This is my first deployment
My goal: Interconnect 3 remote offices and  The infrastructure is as follows:
     Primary Site Server ( HQ )    : 1000 users
     Secondary Site ( Location1) : 2000 Users
     Secondary Site ( Location2) : 2000 Users
Link Between Primary and Secondary Sites : 8 MBPS MPLS link
Database will be installed on a remote SQL 2012 Server.
Please let me know is there any tool to generate Design document.
If possible please design and put the Image on the blog.

Why using a remote SQL server? I'd install it locally. There is no tool available.
Just make sure that you are using a standalone primary site (therefore no CAS) and place a secondary at location 1 and 2.

  • After SCCM 2012 deployed--

I have deployed my SCCM 2012 in my company.
Now I find some pcs with window7 very slow.
When I login in with a domain accout it will keep the screen "welcome" for very long time(I have waited for 2 hours).
I can only login in with local administrator account.
I find the network works that I can ping and visit websites but the netcard appears to the "read cross"(some pcs are "connecting circle")
I cannot open the netcard operation that when I right click the netcard it comes "no response" and also when I click the windows update from
the control panel it comes to "no response".
    What should I do?
    Green Hand In Microsoft.

There's obviously something wrong in your configuration of the environment. Do not blame ConfigMgr until you've done the research on what actually hangs on the login process.

  • SCCM 2012 - Deployment

    Hi All,
I need some advice on the below
    1. I need to automate the uninstallation. So i have deploy install deployment to a collection A in which the software has been installed correctly. If i create a separate collection B with the same members and applied Uninstall deployment hope the install
will override but if we remove the machine from Install deployment does the uninstall activity will happen. Please correct me
    2. I wanted to trigger mail alert when ever there is a critical alert from SCCM. When i try to create subscription it has only the existing alerts where i can choose. Is there any option i can subscribe all the alerts. Please advice
    Regards, Pratap

i have deploy install deployment to a collection A in which the software has been installed correctly. If i create a separate collection B with the same members and applied Uninstall deployment hope the install will override
If you have deployed software to collection A and if you create another collection with same members and if you apply uninstallation task then the software will obviously get uninstalled.
but if we remove the machine from Install deployment does the uninstall activity will happen.
if the software is installed only then the uninstallation happens else it does not.
Is there any option i can subscribe all the alerts - You have to create subscriptions for every alert to get the notification.

  • SCCM 2012 Deploy --- Error = The software change returned error code 0x87D00324(-2016410844).

Deployment to the client is successful but the error reported within Clients "SCCM Software Center"
The software change returned error code 0x87D00324(-2016410844).
Also States on "Status" Past Due - Will be Retired"
Can't figure this one out and I did some googling with no success in finding a solution?
I am running an Adobe Flash install (.EXE)
Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated
    RF

    Hi,
    Thank you for your response
""Wow6432Node is not valid on x86 systems."""
Yes, that I am aware of that.....Windows on Windows, for running x86 apps on x64 Windows<o:p></o:p>
When I first created the detection method I had only created the "WoW" Check
for Flash value in the reg, which was running against both x86 & x64 Win 7
systems, and forgot to include the x64 check/, either case, the error appeared
on the WOW check. Presently I have 2 "Detection Clauses" one for x86
and the second clause is x64 ( non WOW Path), and still receive the same erorrs
on both x86 & x64 systems. ( and x64 system have both reg entries since Win 7 has both x86 & x64 versions of IE)
Looking at the registry of an x64 Win 7 system I find the Adobe Flash registry entry is
located in both Wow6432Node and also in the x64 sections of the reg.....<o:p></o:p>
""""Also, why use the default value? I doubt there's anything in there (the default value is the
value display in a key in regedit with the name of
    "@").""""<o:p></o:p>
When Default Value is selected the boxes/options below that allow for more detailed
information to be entered when performing the "reg check"? This is
where I had been able to enter specific Build/Version to look for, Flash
11.4.402.265, so that if it does not discover the build # it will proceed with
    the install.....<o:p></o:p>
I figured having the option to check for Build/Version # would omit SCCM reinstalling on
systems that have build 11.4.402.265 already?<o:p></o:p>
From what I understand is that Adobe Flash x64 installs both versions x86 & x64 since Win 7 has both IE
x86 & IE x64 bit versions by default, and this would explain the Wow6432Node reg
entries and the true x64 reg entries in both locations when installing.
Overall, I am thinking I may be heading in the wrong direction in resolving this, as x86 & x64 versions install on the systems, so this tells me it is detecting when / what needs to be installed, the issue seems to be how it reports back after installing......
Looking further, I view the Content Status Page, and there reporting info in Asset Detail under [Success]  all others { / In Progresss / Error /Unknown } has no info......
If this helps provide further details.....
    Thanks
    Regards,
    Ron

  • SCCM 2012 Deployment Option Missing

    Hey all,
I have a strange problem. I have build a custom task sequence (TS) to install operating systems on our computers. This TS runs scripts, installs applications and packages. I also have a front-end HTA that allows us to select certain software to be installed
and which OS image to apply. The issue I have is that every time the TS gets to the Run HTA part of the TS, which may I add is the very first step, the TS fails with error code 0x800700A1.
Now after several days of investigation I believe that the issue is that the deployment option is set to 'Download Content Locally when needed by running Task Sequence.' The problem, that is the only deployment option I can select. The other option, which
should be 'Access content directly from distribution point' is not even available. Researching this issue I found that I should make sure all my packages were copied to shares on the distribution points. So I did this, and to no avail. I made sure that a NAA
is set. Still, same error. A couple more things to note.
I am testing in a VMWare environment.
I have added the appropriate drivers to the boot image
Software deployments are working appropriately including the app catalog.
The NAA is a local admin on the distribution point.
All servers in the environment are Server 2012
So, I also began to think, "Well maybe SCCM doesn't like installing Applications from a TS and only handles packages...since applications are new to 2012."So I created a very simple TS that only installed an OS and still the same error. I added
the HTA just for kicks, same error. I have combed the smsts.log file and all of the errors keep leading me to dead ends or repeating steps I had already performed and then hoping for a different result. That's insane right?! If anyone has encountered this
error, and knows how to fix it, I would be forever grateful. If you would like the log file, I can accommodate. I just figured pasting a 4159 line long log file was a bit much.

    >The problem, that is the only deployment option I can select.
The 'Run from DP' option is a Task Sequence-wide option in general, meaning that all the content would have to be duplicated to the package share in order to use it.  Unless all the content is on the package share, this option is not available.  The
only exception is the Apply OS step has its own setting.
If you have a step that uses content, but there is no formatted partition for the TS to download content to, you will receive an error.  So, your first steps need to partition/format the drive if there is no usable partition before you try to download
content (like the files required for your HTA).
I usually steal the logic from the default MDT 2013 task sequence when integrated with ConfigMgr 2012 R2, even though I don't use MDT with ConfigMgr.  The first real step is a format with this condition on it so it only runs if there isn't already a
    local disk available:
If None of the Conditions are true:
    select * from Win32_LogicalDisk where DriveType=3 and DeviceID != 'X:'
    I hope that helps,

  • SCCM 2012 - Deploying Office 2013 Application - Setup Errors

    dear SCCM admins,
i am trying to test deploying office 2013 to users in my company. i made the application and deployments. the application appeared in the software center and in the application catalog.
The problem is whenever a user "which is not a local administrator" tries to install this application, it gives me the setup errors message saying "You must have administrative privileges to install or uninstall this
    product."
Is there any specific configuration to make to overcome this behavior???
    appreciate your suggesstions
    M.Zakaria

As you can see from the screenshot you need to add the ProductID after the uninstall command.
See here for finding the ProductID

  • MAC OS X Certificates question in SCCM 2012 R2

We recently switched our SCCM environment over to HTTPS/PKI and everything has been working well.  We were now wanting to include MAC's into our environment for some asset reporting.  But we recently started to notice some errors on teh enrollment
server.  If we re-image a MAC, and re-enroll it to SCCM it creates another record and cert I believe.  So what I was doing was deleting the old record which seemed like not a big deal till we started getting the errors below.
Our MAC clients are not bound by to AD by the way either.
Failed to revoke Certificate on CA: ******\DUQCA1 with serial number: 1*******00000000573F. Check CA permission.
ICertAdmin2 RevokeCertificate failed: Access is denied.
Do we need to make the user able to revoke the permissions also?  I did not see this in the step by step from Microsoft.  What would best practice be?

    Hi,
As far as I know, there is no other way except manually deleting them.
In addition, we’d love to hear your feedback about the solution. By sharing your experience you can help other community members facing similar problems.

  • SCCM 2012 - Deployment Status Very Slow

I hope someone can point me in the right direction.  I recently upgraded to 2012 SP1, as well as moved my database to a new server running WS2012 and SQL 2012 SP1.  Everything seems to work very well, except for when viewing the status of my deployments.
For example, I pushed out a handful of security updates to a collection of 2008 R2 Servers (about 3 servers).  After a minute, the servers showed correctly that updates were available.  I proceeded to install, reboot, etc.
Now, in CM, under deployments, I have been keeping an eye on the Deployment Status.  After about 6 hours, the little bubble was all grey, in that it hadn't yet figured out what was going on.  24 hours later, and finally it saw that three machines
were "in progress"....even though they should be "compliant".  I have noticed this extremely slow behavior on several other small deployments I am doing.
I have combed through numerous logs, both client and server side, and I don't "see" anything that would suggest an issue with state messages, etc.  Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I can look, or what I can do?  Before I upgraded,
although obviously not instant, the deployment status' seemed to update fairly quickly (couple of hours, not days).
Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

Since no one has answer this post, I recommend opening  a support case with CSS as they can work with you to solve this problem.
