Questions: SAP Procurement terminology

Need clarifications regarding below SAP terms with respect to Procurement.
What is meant by Standard Product Classifications and what’s the use of this in procurement?
What is meant by Master categories and what is the use of Master categories? Is the Standard Product Classifications and Master Categories are same?
In SLM, SAP ask us to do s Master category assignments, what use of this with respect to Business?

  • SAP Procurement for Public Sector package

    Hi All,
does anyone have any useful info on what is actually included in the SAP Procurement for Public Sector package?
I've read the solution brief which is really general and doens't actually give any details.
What I'm after is to know which components of SRM are actually included in this licensing package?
    Thanks
    Chris

    Hi Chris,
I'm part of the IBU for Public Sector, specializing in the SAP PPS Package.
    HIGH-LEVEL PACKAGE CONTENTS (a.k.a. BOM):
    - SAP SRM (current GA release based on 5.0; Q4 08 planned release is based on 7.0)
    - SAP Document Builder (current GA release v 2.0; Q4 08 planned release has v 3.0)
    - SAP NW Records Management/Case Management (rights to use for any procurement scenarios - HR, FI, other uses require additional licenses)
    - Enhancements to these components and SAP ERP 2005 that are known in the technical component list as Government Procurement 1.0 (in the current GA release) or Government Procurement 7.0 (in the Q4 08 release).
    COMPONENT EXPLANATIONS:
    - When we say "SAP SRM", generally we mean "the combined package of engines that were formerly sold as single components", including Strategic Sourcing, Bidding Engine, Auctions, MDM Catalog (only - not all MDM is included), etc.  Legally, I cannot say "all SRM components" because the list may be changed periodically, but I cannot think of a particular exception either.
    - SAP Document Builder is currently not sold separately.
    - SAP NetWeaver Records and Case Management are not the ones used in CRM - these are the standard delivered apps for Records and Case Management with SAP, used to accomplish several PPS scenarios.
    CLARIFICATIONS:
NOTE1: product PPS should NOT be referred to as "SAP Government Procurement", which is a retired product name. The term "Government Procurement" today only refers to the technical set of enhancements, and is an internal convention within SAP, so you won't see it referred to normally.
NOTE2: eSourcing is not the same as SRM. eSourcing is not part of PPS, and is not part of the license for PPS.  We do not recommend a customer to buy both eSourcing and PPS, since they address different needs and pains. e.g., PPS should be considered when integration with ERP is important.
NOTE3: ERP 6.0 is required for PPS customers, but SRM 'core' does not have that dependency.  It's too long to explain here, but suffice to say you wouldn't expect to be able to run an XBOX game on your 1986 Nintendo console.  We cannot run most new PPS functionality on older ERP releases for much of the same reason: we have been building new functionality as quickly as NetWeaver gave us the tools to do so.  If this stuff were easy it've been done by now - by SAP and our competitors.
However, rest assured ERP PRs (and SOs) can still start the process as well as SRM Shopping Carts and POs are replicated to ERP so follow-on GR/IR can be done in ERP.
Enhancements have been made to ERP 6.0 as well, including in the base release, and in EhP 3 and EhP 4 of ERP 6.0, which will be important with the Q4 08 PPS planned release, to enable signifcant new complex line item and pricing functionality and other features. And again - you can run Classic + Extended Classic using the Ext Classic BADI.
NOTE4: ERP 6.0 is not part of the PPS BOM and no ERP 6.0 rights are included.  Customers must have Business Suite or other ERP user licenses in conjunction.
NOTE5: Customers with SRM licenses today may convert their license to PPS. This is done on a case-by-case basis, so SRM customers in Public Sector are not required to migrate or convert - contact your SAP AE for details if you need more information.
For more information, you can contact me at: FirstnamedotlastnameatSAPdotcom.
Rules prohibit me from typing the address into the answer, but I am the Field Services contact for partners in the Americas for this product so it's appropriate in this case to contact me directly.

  • Please help explain SAP Benchmark Terminology

    Hello,
I am looking for help in understanding the terminology of some benchmarks for SAP applications.  I have read and re-read several pages on their website, including http://www.sap.com/solutions/benchmark/index.epx but still are not 100% clear.  I would greatly appreciate if someone familiar with SAP would answer the following questions:
Q1. SD Standard Benchmark  - is it correct that this is not a single benchmark, but actually a generic term referring to all the SAP benchmarks including benchmarks for: Power, ERP, Supply Chain, Banking, Utilities, NetWeaver, Enterprise Portal, Customer Relationship Management, Product Lifecycle Management, and Retail?  If not, what is it?
Q2. SAPS - is it correct that this is a unit of measurement and not a benchmark?  It looks like the results of the Sales and Distribution (SD) Benchmark are reported in SAPS.
Q2b. I have seen cases where people refer to the "SAPS" benchmark.  If SAPS is a unit of measurement, is it safe to say that SAPS is another way of referring to the Sales and Distribution (SD) benchmark?  If yes, is it the 2-tier or 3-tier version?
Q3. I have also seen cases where people refer to the "SAP" benchmark.  What are they most likely referring to?
Q4. Please confirm that the following all refer to the same benchmark: SAP-SD Two-Tier, SAP SD 2-tier, SD2 SAPS, and SAP SD2
Q5. Similarly, please confirm that the following all refer to the same benchmark: SAP-SD Three-Tier, SAP SD 3-tier, SD3 SAPS, and SAP SD3
Q6. Finally, out of all of the SAP benchmarks, which one benchmark, if any, is most widely used?
Thanks so much for your help!!!!

apparently, I have to repackage ALL my classes via the "export to JAR" link in NWDS.  Using winzip is somehow screwing up the JAR.

In general, the analysis should cover the following:
    - Types of procurement departments, since there might be different departments for different kinds of purchases - perhaps different lines of business altogether.
    - Process of procurement of each
    - Centralized / decentralized processing
    - Treatment of taxes / duties
    - Inventory valuation procedures
    - Quality checks during procurement
    - Long term contracts / agreements
    - Treatment of low value items (with or without purchase order)
    - Approval process (release procedure)
    - Stock transfer process across plants
    - Subcontracting / consignment / pipeline requirements
    - Process for vendor returns
    - Scrap generation / storage
    - Physical inventory process / frequency /writeoffs
    - Treatment of freight and other charges
    - Imports, if a different process is followed.
    - Service procurement process
    - Any special process associated with the company or industry.
Hope this covers most of the business processes related to procurement

  • SRM - SAP/Procurement

    Hello Guys
I am new with SRM and I have a work flow that work at the moment with the engineers creating a reservation that is checked by a warehouse material manager which according with the material availability triggers the procurement process creating a PR or just goods issue the material.
Is there any possibility that the SRM automatic would triggers the procurement process according with the material availability, remember that the reservation that the engineers raise it is allocated to a WBS element, and our stock is not valuated, which means the cost to the project comes from the PO.
If some one could send just the material that would explain some possibilities about the shopping cart triggering the warehouse management would be enough.
    Thanks

    Hi Carlos,
this is not possible alone within the SRM System.
Instead of this I would suggest the external requirement scenario.
You can do the MRP in the R/3 backend system, and send the purchase requisitions (depending on purchasing group or material group) with the external requirement scenario into the SRM system. This request will be sent into the sourcing coocpit as a shopping cart, which can be proceed by the sourcer (PO, Bid, Auction).
    Kind regards,
    Peter

  • Question re: Editing Terminology

I had a short phone interview earlier today for a job I applied for like half a year ago lol. I had a great conversation with the interviewer up until he used a few terms that i wasn't familiar with. I BSed my way through and setup a second interview . I'm wondering if anybody would be kind enough to explain the following terms to me:
"Assemble Leica's" (somewhat doubt it relates to the camera brand.... but who knows?)
    "Conform finished Leica"
"Compile pick-up lists" (list of reshoot needs? a list of items to pick-up from companies?)
Thanks to anybody who can help (or tries)!

I don't recognize the terms either, but I worked at several television stations throughout my career and found that each place had their own "pet" terminology for things.
For example an over-the-shoulder graphic for news in one place was an ESS--named after the machine we used to store and play the graphics back. Some places just called it a "box" Some of us older "analogue" geeks might remember "ADO-ing" something. A verb created that means to move video around the screen in usually obnoxious methods. This was done using an AMPEX ADO--very popular in the late 80's and early 90's.
Now a lot of people want to know if you can operative an ELVIS. I'm not sure where that comes from, but it's a machine used for video playback in live trucks--usually sporting events.
Good luck. I would just ask. Or ask you friend.
