Questions that probably require an updated os...

am loving my ipod touch, replaces my now-unmissed palm tx.
meanwhile, driving me crazy:
can i turn off spell check?
delete mail (instead of sending to trash, then going there and deleting?
global delete? (i already know the answer is 'not yet').
cut & paste?
delete a whole line of text?
change the font in notes?
anyway, am pretty happy, but hope things get better june; especially ical; apple streamline the process of adding events!
end rant.

Sure it does, Apple made it clear that Snow Leopard was the minimum in its advertising.

I have an app in my app store that is requiring an update but I never purchased the app and when I click update, another apple ID pops up that is not mine.  Now i keep getting reminders to update the app and I cant get rid of it from the app store.  Help.

You installed a hacked app, originally from the Mac App Store. It contains the receipt for a different app, downloaded using an account that you don't control. You need to identify and remove the hacked app.
Important: The app you need to remove is not necessarily the one named in the App Store notice. For example, if the App Store says you need to update "Twitter," the hacked app may be "Angry Birds" or something else entirely. Don't make any assumptions about which app you're looking for. To find it, you have to carry out a systematic search.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    kMDItemAppStoreHasReceipt=1
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
In the Finder, press the key combination command-F to open a search window, or select
    File ▹ Find
from the menu bar. In the search window, select
    Search: This Mac
from the row of tokens below the toolbar. Below that is a popup menu initially showing Kind. From that menu, select  Other...
A sheet will drop down. In that sheet, select Raw Query and click OK or press return.
Now there will be a text box to the right of popup menu. Click in that box and paste (command-V).
The search window will show all the App Store products you've installed. Compare those search results with the list of your purchases from the App Store. To see the complete list, you may need to unhide hidden purchases. If any apps were download from the App Store using other Apple ID accounts that you control, sign in to the store under each of those ID's and check the purchases.
At least one of the items listed in the search window is not among your purchases in the App Store. Move each such item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password. Empty the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Test.

No, your computer says that. Not your phone. This is a Windows problem, not a phone problem.

OK. Now, you say you got this alert through App Store when trying to download Mavericks or after you downloaded it and were trying to install it? Which is the correct case?
The error you are getting may sometimes occur when the computer has already been updated, but I don't know why you would be getting this message. I can only suggest that you take it in for service to find out why this is happening.

Update the plugin or delete it.
Kontakt 4 is a 32 bit plugin, it won't run in Logic Pro X
    You need Kontakt 5

Now that iOS is consistently being updated.  Will the 1st Generation IPad be stuck with IOS 5?  Eventually my IPad will be good for nothing as Apps start requiring the updated software.

The iPad 1 can only be updated to iOS 5.1.1. This is unlikely to change.
The apps you have will continue to work and there are still many apps which run on iOS 5 (or even earlier iOS levels).

  • Why does "Check for Updates..." show that there are no updates available while I'm using Firefox 3.6.18 and latest version is 5.0.1?

First and foremost, I'd like to clarify that I hardly have any technical knowledge. So pardon me if this comes across as a silly question to the professionals. Here are the details pertaining to this problem as per the best of my limited knowledge:
I'm currently using Mozilla Firefox 3.6.18; previously it was 3.6.13. It was updated to 3.6.13 from 3.6.9 after I clicked on Check for Updates... and it told me that it'd be done when I reboot my system. When I restarted my PC, I was surprised to find that it was downloading the version 3.6.18. I didn't know how much it'd progressed in the process, so I let it finish it. After that, I disabled the option that enables it to download and update on its own, and turned it off. Next time when I started it, it was 3.6.18, but wasn't updating on its own anymore.
Now I wanna update it directly to the latest version 5.0.1. But when I leave it to "'''Automatically download and install the update'''" option under Tools>Options>Advanced>Update, it downloads and updates the versions as per their release order. So if I leave it to it, then when I start it next time, it'll start downloading the version next to 3.6.18 and update to it instead of updating directly to 5.0.1. It'll keep doing so until it reaches there. For reasons of my own, I don't like that. So I '''unchecked '''the "Automatically download and install the update" option and chose the "'''Ask me what I want to do'''" option (so that it doesn't keep repeating the "downloading and updating" process on its own every time I start my PC). Then I went to Firefox site and thought of downloading and updating to the latest version on my own. But then I was informed that if I do so, '''I'll get the latest version, but I'll lose all my saved bookmarks unless I follow some hectic procedure to save them and load them again after installing the latest version of Firefox'''. I don't want to let that happen either. So, can anyone suggest me a way out of this situation without losing my bookmarks?
Almost forgot. I tried several times by going to '''Help>Check For Updates...''', but every time it returned the same result: "There are no updates available. Firefox will check periodically for updates." How come no update is available while the version I'm using is 3.6.18 and the latest version is 5.0.1? In short, '''Check for Updates...''' didn't help either. (Even when I updated it last time, shouldn't it have updated itself from version 3.6.13 to 5.0.1 directly?)
So, can anyone suggest a way by which I won't lose my bookmarks and would be able to update to the latest version directly too? An answer that wouldn't involve removing the current version and installing the latest one, but directly update to it (it's okay if it needs downloading) would be more welcome. I know that the bookmarks can be saved in a file and all, but I'd like to know if it's possible as it happened for my current version from previous version. (It downloaded and updated itself on its own, disturbing nothing, not even logged me out of certain accounts where I stay logged in. The only problem there was that it wasn't updating directly to the latest version.)
I hope the aforementioned details make sense and are helpful enough for others to help me. Thanks.

Thanks a lot for your swift response. And sorry if it was a bit too hectic to go through my detailed query (which I did because it was misunderstood when I asked previously). As I've mentioned above, I was informed that updating to 5.0.1 would '''require''' me to '''delete''' the current version and then install the new one. And doing so will involve losing all my bookmarks. I guess I should have been more specific and detailed there. By losing, I didn't mean losing them forever. I'm aware that they're secured in some place and deleting and installing the software doesn't harm its existence. What I meant that if I install the new version, I'd have to delete the old one. And after installing the new version, I'd have to transfer them (bookmarks) back from wherever they are. Get it? When it updated from 3.6.9 to 3.6.13, and from 3.6.13 to 3.6.18, I didn't need to follow that process. They were already present on their own.
BTW, I'm having no problems with 3.6.18 but after learning about the existence of version 5.0.1, I'm a bit too eager to lay my hands over it.
Thanks for your help; hope this wasn't extremely long.

  • A question that I always want to ask:

Is there anything that have to be done from bytecode level? If you have a answer, please share it with me. Need details.

Is there anything that have to be done from bytecode level?
Your question is vague, but I will do my best. There probably are a few Java exceptions (or errors) that are nearly impossible to demonstrate unless you program at the byte code level and deliberately try to cause such an exception.
In my book, just because you showed that the JVM can have obscure errors does not really accomplish much.
To the best of my knowledge, there is nothing that I know of that involves functionality with other software components that requires you to code at the bytecode level. The Java language exposes the functionality of the JVM to the degree needed to get useful work done. In Java, there is no corresponding concept of, say, operating system device drivers that might require assembler code.
If you really thought that creating the JVM error was somehow the useful result, then I guess that might fall under "anything". More likely, creating such an error would be an academic exercise that no one in industry would pay you for.
I am making assumptions. I am sure some Ph.D. in computer scientist can come up with a counter example to my statement. Here is a thread I participated in where I made a reference to a paper where some graduate students write about generating they own bytecode:
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=606589
You really have qualify your question before I can offer much else.

I tried deleting the AAMUPDATER as advised but this only created a new problem.  Folio builder still requires an update but now none is available.
I was really stoked about trying the ipad app builder for our magazine, and kinda bummed i can't even get started.
    any help would be great.

  • How do i uninstall a purchased app (that no longer appears in the purchased app list in the store) so that i can repurchase and have the app appear as "purchased" so that i can get updates as the software is updated periodically?

I am looking for some help with the app store.  I recently purchased an app (aperture) in the app store and subsequently apple refunded the purchase price.  However, the downside of this is that aperture no longer appears as a "purchased" app within my app store account.  Accordingly, i don't believe i will get updates as the software is updated periodically.  Apple has instructed me to delete all my aperture files, reboot and then revisit the app store to re-download and it should let me pay for the app and redownload just as if i had never had the app before.  However, when i go to purchase aperture, i get a warning that it has already been purchased and that i can re-download for free.  That sounds great but again it won't appear in the "purchased" list in the app store b/c of the original refund from apple.  I never thought i would have this much trouble trying to pay someone for a product!
    Questions:
Is the app store looking to my hard drive for traces of aperture to determine whether it has been purchased or is it looking at some kind of purchase history within the app store?
Is there anyway to wipe my hard drive clean of aperture files or wipe clean my app store purchase history so that i can start over?
If none of this is possible, does anyone have a possible solution?
If i were to redownload aperture (currently for free since it won't let me pay) when a subsequent update comes out (say it goes from version 3.2.2 to 3.2.3) can i then elect to buy aperture, pay the fee and will it appear as a purchased app and allow me to get upgrades going forward?  Would any data be compromised with this?
    Many thanks for your help!

    1. Do you have a backup connected to your Mac that contains the app? If so, yes the MAS can detect that and believes that the app is installed.
    2. If the app no longer appears in the purchase history on the Purchased pane in the MAS, then it would seem that Apple has taken care of that.
    4. Updates, such as you describe are free. Upgrades are not. An upgrade is a new paid version of the app, such as v 3.0 to v 4.0.

  • TS3297 This software asks security questions that you never setup, real bad software!

Beware,  after updating to the new version of itunes and trying to purchase a song it thinks it is a new computer and asks security questions that you never setup.  Real bad! Still do not know how to reset security questions with new version of Itunes.
    Any Ideas?

You don't need to buy only from the App Store. If only you knew how to change settings in the security pane of your Mac... You would know that you can change this setting. But of course, you don't need a "babysitter" to make things easy for you.
