Quick ALchemy + Non BETA drivers question... for C

Hello,?I've been reading posts in this forum for the last two days... Wow... so much info!?Anyway, from what I've gathered so far (and please correct me if I'm wrong) the situation is as follows:
Official (non-BETA) drivers should be available for Vista sometime in March, these drivers should include all functionality (previously available in XP), including EAX, through the ASIO or OpenAL stacks, right?<So any game that boast EAX and uses the OpenAL/ASIO stack will work faultlessly, right?<
Meanwhile, old games that use DirectSound3D will only work with the ALchemy wrapper (that simulates a DirectSound HAL), correct?<
Assuming the above is all correct, does Creative plan to release the ALchemy wrapper with their official (non-BETA) driver? This would be great as then the new driver would (theoretically) support any EAX game (DirectSound or OpenAL)...
Thanks in advance.

g26,
I don't have any more information for everyone on what else will be included in the driver at the moment. As far as EAX goes, if a game is OpenAL it should be fine, OpenAL still works and hasn't been removed. Games with EAX that use DirectSound 3D will have to go through ALchemy instead, because of the changes in the OS. At the moment ALchemy is beta as well but keep an eye on the forums and the preview page for more updates on that. When there is more news on ALchemy I'll try to add it to the FAQ thread for that too.

  • Windows 8 Clean Install drivers question for USB, CD, and Wifi

    Hello,
I did a clean install using bootcamp for Windows 8. The problem I am experiencing is that I cannot download the needed drivers through bootcamp due to a slow connection. (I am in Afghanistan for work). Does anyone know where I can get the drivers so my USB ports, Cd-ROM drive, and Wifi will work from an external website where I can use a download manager? I have a 15' Macbook Pro-Mid-2012.
    Thank you,
    Ryan

  • Vista Beta Drivers for the Modem Blaster V.92 Serial DE5

I was wondering if there are any beta drivers available for the Modem Blaster V.92 Serial DE562? Thank You, Mike...

Holly cow... a v.92 modem! Christ that's from like, the 90's! You an old timer/ludite by any chance
You could probably get broadband for less.
Regardless, i very much doubt you'll ever find drivers for this piece of kit.
I think it's amazing creative have stated they'll develop Vista drivers for such old hardware.
If you're using the x86 (32bit) version of Vista then the Win XP drivers might work.
If, however, you're using x64 (64bit) you're stuffed. On top of that if you take a look at the manual selection bit down the bottom f the page on the left, you'll see Vista's just not a selectable option.
But it REALLY is time for you to jump on the broadband train man! Low end connections are so cheap and still would be a gazillion times faster than what you're currently using.

  • 2012 iMac with gtx680mx want beta drivers?

I just got my new iMac i7 with the gtx680mx video card.  I know there is beta drivers out for he card that improve it a little bit. Where can I download them. Thx a lot

On OS X, Apple provides the driver updates and drivers are updated with OS X updates, so you can't install any beta driver for OS X.
However, NVIDIA releases beta drivers for their graphics on Windows, but not OS X

  • Question for Apple: When do we get "Trackpad Click" in Boot Camp???

Parallels has it. VMWare Fusion has it. Why can't Boot Camp do 'trackpad click'???
I'm buggered if I can work out what was actually UPGRADED in BC 2.0 -- seems to work exactly the same as the beta versions.

    Question for Apple
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html/
And FWIW, I hate trackpad click. Whenever I try to help someone on a laptop which has it on by default, I end up clicking on everything when I'm only trying to move the mouse pointer. So I'm ecstatic that Apple is smart enough to turn it off by default. But I agree that people who have been trained to use this horrible feature ought to have it as an option. But I'm hoping Apple provides the option of focus-follows-mouse for Mac OS X first.

  • Zen Micro: Beta Drivers + Drop = Cra

    Hello fellow Zen Micro users,
This is my first post here. Just wanted to share a little experience I had. After only two weeks of use, my Zen Micro stopped working, after one (!) accidental drop to the ground. While starting up, it just stalled at the Creative screen. Tried the Reformat, Clean Up in the boot menu, to no avail. I finally gave up, blamed it on bad luck, but luckily got a new player in return. This after originally getting the Zen Micro as a refund for a Muvo^2 I bought last year, which had problems with the headphone-plug (a company policy I like - but something absolutely necessary with products that break so easily!).
Like I said, I got a new one now. This time however, I decided to stick with "official" firmware (.02.05). With the last one, I used the new MTP Beta ones. I liked them because they solved many issues I had before:
    - Skipping tracks would finally not take several seconds anymore
    - Drag & Drop functionality
    - Louder volume
    - Battery seemed to be better charged
    - Transfer speed from PC to Micro seemed faster
However, I'm a bit skeptical if it wasn't these BETA drivers that caused my last Zen Micro to be rendered completely useless after one drop. Can anyone confirm this? I'd love to use the Beta drivers again for the above mentioned reasons. However, not for the price of constantly having to replace my player.
I kinda long for the days of the old walkman; I had one working for at least 5 years :/ No firmware upgrades, no software crashes... and I would actually LISTEN to a tape instead of constantly skipping tracks on my search for the right soundtrack to the time of day
    But still.
    Andrew cA

Hiya! Okay... how does it feel to know that you're not on crack? The same exact thing happened to me recently. I know that these things aren't supposed to be exposed to trauma, but I was getting out of my car, and it dropped about a foot down onto the ground. No way did I think it was a damaging fall, but when I got inside my house, I checked to see if things were okay. I turned it on, and it happened to be on a song that I hated, and for some reason just never deleted. So I chose delete, and it deleted... and deleted... and the message never went away. Two hours later the delete message was still hanging there. So I tried shutting it off. It wouldn't turn off. So then, I did as everyone on the web suggested, which was remove the battery. When I plugged it back in, it made this "whirring" noise (it was the loudest, most bizarre thing) and the Creative logo appeared. And then THAT never went away. I tried to put it in crash recovery mode, and each time it would "stick" in whatever option I chose until the battery died. And each time I turned it on, the Creative logo would appear with that weird noise. My computer (and and software) did not recognize it, yet I could charge the battery and the blue light would glow. Tech support ran me through a whole big thing of deleting and reinstalling my drivers, which didn't do a thing. I have a new one on the way. Again, I was totally shocked because it wasn't that harsh of a drop. I've treated my laptop worse than that. Anywhooo.... you're not alone.

  • Non-beta audigy drivers with OpenAL support. Wh

Is there going to be any official drivers for the audigy that supports OpenAL? The beta drivers have been out for over three months. I have had a lot of problems with audigy drivers before so I don't want to risk installing beta drivers. The latest official drivers are from March 2004 so it almost seems like the audigy drivers aren't updated any longer.

They say beta since they don't run some of the software like EAX Console, Speaker Settings, etc. But the new Audio Console gives you all the settings for the stuff that the beta driver won't play nicely with.
They are WHQL Microsoft certified. So they are really final's. It's possible that no final version may ever be issued, just maybe more beta's, since Creative probably doesn't want to deal with masses of folks complaining about some of the older software not running anymore. But they are final drivers and completely safe. Just uninstall the older drivers, install the new ones, then install the Audio Console. Surround Mixer, Soundfonts, the Volume Control, the EAX Control and Device Settings in AudioHQ will all work. But I would make a shortcut to Audio Console as you really will only need that and the Surround Mixer to control what you used to need all that resource hogging pretty GUI software for.
If you already have the Audio Console installed I would uninstall that before you remove the old drivers and reinstall it after the new drivers are installed.
The new MediaSource stuff all works with the new driver too.
If you want this all in 2 packages (the Audigy 4 Pro UPax tweaked cd and the Creative beta driver tweaked to work with it) you can read the audio threads at driverheaven.net. Uninstall everything Creative. Then you uncheck Windows Drivers and Audio Console in the Audigy 4 cd install and after rebooting install the UPax Creative driver mod, reboot, install the Audigy Entertainment Center update only if using a Platinum breakout box, then install the latest official Creative Audio Console.
So you have several options. I still use only the official non beta Creative stuff since I'm not using any of the newer OpenAL games. I've read that the newer beta's improve the sound somewhat, but everything sounds great as it is.

  • Microsoft is going to pressure Creative for better drivers!

    Cool feature of vista:
Finally, Microsoft will be making it easier for users to get manufacturers to take action when it comes to bad driver releases. Often times, an application or game can be completely or partially crippled due to a bug in the driver or just one that is poorly designed. Windows Vista will allow users to vote for the quality of a driver that they install and all drivers that wish to pass the Windows Vista Premium logo program must meet a Green status, which is a rating of 7 to 9. Any driver that is rated below it will cause the accompanying device to fall out of Premium compliancy and the manufacturer must supply users with a fixed driver within 90 days. How Microsoft will enforce this policy remains to be seen, but it's definitely a step forward in creating stable and secure Windows systems."
    http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=2842

Your missing 3 points about how it works.
. These are for MS vertified drivers only.
    2. Developers don't have to get MS certifed to use it.
    3. Creative drivers would be certifed, has nothing to do with how much you upgrade a driver, its based on that driver release quality.
To sum up article below, you don't NEED MS at all to get a driver in vista.
    http://www.anandtech.com/systems/showdoc.aspx?i=2780&p=3
"Of greater importance though is the difference in how drivers are handled. The x64 version will by default be locked down to only accept kernel mode drivers which have been signed, and while this can be bypassed by tweaking Vista a bit, it's not a very easy thing to do at the moment and there is no guarantee it will stay this way. Ultimately, Microsoft sees this as a move towards ensuring better drivers, but as we've seen with WHQL certified video drivers, there are a lot of things that can slip through the cracks of Microsoft's testing. It is also not clear, even within Microsoft, whether developers who need to write kernel mode drivers (drivers which effecti'vely have full, unadulterated, operating system level access to the hardware) will be allowed to sign their drivers using 3rd parties like Verisign. Giving developers this option would offer support without WHQL tests, but would almost defeat the purpose of the requirement (which is to ensure the integrity of the system).
If only a Microsoft signature is to be allowed, hardware manufacturers will be at the mercy of Microsoft, who may not sign legally questionable devices such as DVD emulators, but at the same time may also not sign malware such as the overambitious anti-piracy toolkit StarForce or Sony's CD rootkit. In general we're concerned that with the other Digital Rights Management technologies going into Vista such as HDCP, Microsoft is going to lean towards the side of only avoiding signing obvious malware and software that sits on the "fair use" side of the IP/copyright fence (while still signing items like StarForce). However, we won't really know what kind of a stance Microsoft is going to take until Vista shi
    ps.
At any rate, we hope they leave in the ability to disable driver checking, even if it's only something technical savvy users are capable of doing."

  • Beta drivers for Audigy2

Well, the title says what I'm looking for, but here's my problem:
I had installed Quake4, and was playing fine. After I had finished the game, I went to update my drivers (finally,) and noticed that I was running my NX on generic windows drivers. I updated all the drivers, mediasource, etc... (along with some other housekeeping updates,) and I now can no longer open the game.
I've already eliminated the video card update as the problem, and I honestly don't know of a way to eliminate a bios update issue, however, I HIGHLY doubt that is the culprit. After some discussions in the quake disc. boards, I sence that there is a problem with the creative drivers. I have been told that most people are getting success by using the latest beta drivers, and I was linked to a file called "SBA2_PCDrvBeta_LB_2_08_0002.exe" However, when I try to run that file, I'm told that "Setup is unable to detect a supported device on your system..." As the title says Audigy2/ZS, Audigy 4, I'm thinking these are the wrong beta drivers for my device, but I can't find beta drivers for the Audigy2 NX USB
    Help? Thanks...

I have tried re-installing, that isn't working. I'm also hearing that people are having success when installing the OpenAL libs....
I've been trying to get this file: http://developer.creative.com/articl...&top=38&aid=46 however, whenever I try to d/l the file I time-out to a "page unavail." error... Is there some server error at creative? ...or, does anyone know of a mirror server?
The file I'm looking for is: OpenALwEAX.exe

  • How to uninstall beta drivers for xfi xtreme mu

Hi everybody (xcuse my bad english)?Like many people who have crackling pb with the xfi xtreme, i've installed the beta drivers. But in 2 days, these drivers will be out of date. And i don't know how to uninstall them, i cannot find any creative drivers when i go into the set up programcan u help me please?

    Hello LA,
The window that I have is different from the one you posted. Please see attached for mine. When I clicked on REMOVE, a message popped up and disappeared within a couple seconds. And the message is as following: "The installer is verifying the installation, please do not reboot while this dialog is being display." This same message popped up every time REMOVE is clicked but I have no luck on removing MAX.
This test PC is for legacy testing and it was with Windows 98 and have an ISA DAQ card installed that requires DAQ driver 6.9.3. Can upgrading the test PC to Windows 2000 corrupt the installation?
Looking forward for your advice. Thank you.

  • New BETA drivers for TV@nywhere Master

there was a thread somewhere before where someone had found some updated BETA drivers for the MSI TV@nywhere Master card but it seems to have gone now
i've been using them for a while now, and they're very stable, and the picture quality has improved somewhat
they say they are for the Master version of the card, but i think they may work on the Mega PC version, the only difference is the Master has a AM/FM tuner as well
anyone having stability probs in media center III or MSIPVS might want to try them out and see what happens...
i've uploaded them to my webspace, and you can find them here in ZIP format: http://www.ukshazam.com/downloads/8606Master_drv.zip
please note these are BETA drivers and as such MSI won't support them (as if they do anyway
i'll also post this in the Mega PC forum

As I recall when this BETA driver started flying around the forum, they WERE NOT official or unofficial MSI drivers. They were modified by a user from another forum and someone from this forum posted a link to them. THESE ARE IN NO WAY RELATED TO MSI DIRECTLY!! Someone reversed engineered the driver and probly thru extensive testing, via trial and error, was able to clean up the driver to give the result that most have had with them. This doesn't mean that everyone is going to have the same result, which is and has been the reality with any add-on card produced since PC's came out...compatibility issues DO still exist out there and not all systems are going to play in the sandbox well with all add-on cards that are manufactured...something to keep in mind when purchasing new systems...
Furthermore, it's been my experience that proprietary systems (The Pac-10 as I call them...IBM, Dell, Gateway, HP, Compaq, Sony, eMachine, etc...) have more issues than White Box systems when it comes to add-on compatibility. If you don't know this already, most of these companies DO NOT want you to purchase off the shelf items from Best Buy, CompUSA, etc...they want you to have to come back to them for upgrades and add-on devices, at higher than retail prices, and that's where they make the most profit. Sad reality, but true. Case in point: My first retail purchased PC was a Dell XPS Pentium 100, (my prior PC's were purchased from Michael Dell's garage) I wanted to upgrade it to a 4X CDROM drive and Dell had failed to include the snap in side rails for their new innovative case that was tool-less. So I called up Dell support and asked if these rails were available. The CS Rep told me that they were so I asked how much. She asked me if I had bought the upgraded device from Dell and I said no. Then she informed me that they wouldn't sell them to me ($6.00 US) because I hadn't purchased the upgrade device from them. Needless to say I was pissed. This was circa 1995-96.
Anyway, over the years of doing network consulting, I can't tell you the countless times that I've heard this type of thing on the phone from many of the above listed companies...yes, most have gotten better over the years (Like Dell including all of the rails needed inside the case nowadays) but overall they still have the same mindset and it's much more subtle when they design a motherboard that won't play in the sandbox well with retail bought components...*shrugs*
I got tired of playing their game after a while and started building my own systems. I found White Box isn't always better either but for the most part it's been a far cry easier than buying proprietary...
Just my 2 cents here for what it's worth...
