Quick cd burning question

i have just recently switched from a mac to a pc running arch. So far i love arch and how customizable the package selection is. I just have a question as to burning cd's. I have a few .dmg files that are for a mac. My friend is needing a copy these files but i dont want him to have them. Since my mac is no longer of use i got rid of it. Is there any application for arch that will allow me to burn a dmg file. I have ran both gnomebaker and k3b and both programs do not see a dmg file as a valid iso file. PLEASE HELP

I've not tested it, but maybe dmg2iso.pl works.

Quick DVD burning question

If I create a DVD folder in PE, can I simply burn the resulting VIDEO_TS folder to a data DVD and have it play in any DVD player that supports DVD-R? Do I need a blank AUDIO_TS folder?
This works fine with my DVD player, but I suspect it supports more "standards" than some older players.

Yes, I have Nero 6. I tried that..... I told it to burn a DVD compilation with the files from the VIDEO_TS folder that PE made. It burned the first one just fine. And then proceeded to burn four coasters. I have no idea why... I didn't even exit the program, just told it to burn more copies. I'm trying again at a lower speed... the burner supports 16X and burns the VIDEO_TS folder as-is to a data DVD just fine at 16X but I'm running at 12X to see what happens.
It is also possible I was trying to burn to the DVD imatge recorder, whatever that is. I just noticed that it shows up as a device and might be the default. Is it perhaps an ISO builder? If so, it was definitely burning to the DVD... the disk was spinning and the LED was accessing. But each time it stopped at about the 75% point with a burn error.
I tell ya, I can fix the OS if it breaks, I can do dual and triple boot, I can work in Linux, I can edit and burn audio. But PC video has me climbing the walls. Oh for the days when video was..... video. A little dot flying across a phosphor screen. And NTSC was the only way to go.
Well, lo and behold.... as I typed this, it completed the burn at 12X. Let's see if it can make a couple more copies.
OK, calm down, Paul.... not a PE problem as far as I can tell. Just ranting.... The DVD really does look good. I am quite pleased, even if it was frustrating getting here. maybe the next one will be heaps easier.

Quick SAP Script question
I have added a new page to an existing SAP Script BUT only want it to print if a condition is true.
I need to do this from within the form as the print program is SAP Std.
Any idea how I can prevent the new page from printing?
i.e. I need the form NOT to call the new page if the condition is false. Is there a way of forcing an exit or stop from with in the form?

To trigger a new page, there is script ediotr command NEW-PAGE.
so find where is that command is triggered and use the below code for trigger it on any specific condition....
if &condition& = 'True'
/* NEW-PAGE
elseif
/: NEW-PAGE
endif
so it means if condition is satisfied your new page will not work.. else it will...

I have what is hopefully a quick and easy question. I know almost nothing about this stuff so go easy on me . All I need to do is find out if my DHCP is enabled. I'm having problems with my Xbox 360 and one of the possible problems is this DHCP thing. However I have no idea how to find the settings for my router on my computer. If it helps I have a Wirless model BEFW11S4. Thanks in advance for any help.

You need to access your router to check if the DHCP is on. To access the router open your browser and type in http://192.168.1.1 into the address field and hit enter. That should open the routers log on screen and by default the user is left blank (some routers it is admin) and the password is abmin. If you changed your routers password as you should for security reasons then use that password. That will bring you to your routers user interface and on the main set up page should be your DHCP.

I have a few questions that might seem a bit silly.
I am a JAVA novice and need a bit of help.
* How do i go about successfully deploying a JAVA2 application
on a windows OS-> as windows does not have the latest JRE.
In other words how do i go about writing a patch in my application
that successfully detects this and fixes the problem! :)
* In a particular dialog box(in the abovementioned application) I would
like to have a clickable piece of text(my e-mail addy) that starts
up the users e-mail. Do i create a URL object? Is there a platform
independant way to do this?
* Also in my help menu for the application how do i make my event
handler
open up a .htm file in the users browser with my help topics?

Quick iPhoto / ken burns question

Hi,
Just a quickie, I've had an issue with some photos rendering poorly in an iMovie generated slideshow on a DVD, and am wondering about iPhoto - is it possible to manually manipulate the zooms and pans on individual photos using KB in iPhoto in the same way you can in iMovie, or does it just randomly generate KB effects?

When you are viewing your Cinematic slideshow, the one you created by hitting the Slideshow icon,you will see a photo browser above and the Previewing window below.
If you click the "settings" icon this is where you set the controls for the slideshow globally. There is a setting to "loop" and "fit to audio to slideshow"
I've got to tell you one thing that has been experienced by everyone (or mostly everyone). If you choose "fit to slideshow" it will look great in iPhoto or it might be off by one image (this is my experience).
When you send to DVD or share/export to a Quicktime movie, the wonderful planning and timing is somehow lost and either the music or the slides of the images will end first. I am not exactly sure on this as I don't have iPhoto open right now. If you are really serious about the timing there are work arounds.
One being export the slideshow to Quicktime (without the audio), import that movie into iMovie and add your audio there. It will take some fiddling to get the timing right.

Quick CSS box question

Hi guys,
Firstly a very Merry Christmas to you all !
I'm just getting to grips with converting all the text on my
site to CSS and have a quick question.
On some of my pages I add an 'Also see' links box aligned to
the right - it's a CSS div tag thingy someone kindly talked me
through once. All of my pages are built from a template with an
editable region.
My question is, can I add this box (perhaps with a standard
'Also check out' title and then spaces for my links) at the
template level? This will save me having to go to Insert>Layout
Objects>DivTag on every page. I've tried simply adding this to
the editable region of the template but it simply pushed the
editable region box over to the right and then didn't appear on my
pages
Also, the links box would ideally appear about half way down
my pages on the right...

Your CSS link implies that the CSS file is in the Templates
folder. You
shouldn't have anything there other than the template (dwt)
files
themselves. Please move it out to any other location in your
site.

A Few Quick Lenovo T410 Questions

Hi all,
I posted here quite a while ago about my 9 cell battery in my integrated graphics T410 only lasting up to 5 hours. I have yet to send the notebook in simply because I haven't been able to go without it. However, I plan to do so at the start of this next week. Before I do so I was going to swap out the 500GB 7200.1RPM hard drive I installed with the 250GB 5400RPM drive that came with the notebook to see if it was an excessive power issue with the drive.This is where my worries are.
When I inserted the 500GB hard drive into the drive tray, I had a very hard time screwing the tray in place. The screws were damaged in the process, and I have worries about taking them out, and putting them back in again. I am still under warranty.
Am I able to recieve a new set of these screws?
Also, 2 quick questions
I plan on moving my 500GB drive into the slot where my optical drive is now, and putting a SSD in wheremy 500GB drive is located now. Do I need to buy anything special to make this work?
I also plan on upgrading from the 2x2GB RAM I installed myself (machine came with 1x2GB), to 4x2GB. Is this RAM compatible?

I think only lenovo techs can determine or tell that, but my guess is that if they feel they need to be replaced, then they probably will.

External cd burner questions...

O.K. folks, my lame questions of the day.
I have a G3 iBook (specs below) with cd read only. I have a Sony CRX 1600L firewire cd burner that I would like to use to back up my iTunes purchases.
I used this a few months ago and somehow, (gulp) fried my HD. I think that what I did wrong was disconnecting the burner from the iBook without ejecting properly. That, I believe is why i'm the proud owner of a new 60 GB hd. I'm a little gun shy now, can you blame me? Problem is is that my iTunes purchases are g-r-o-w-i-n-g! (Backed up on my iPod).
So here the questions, when connecting the burner to the Mac are both off then power them up? Should one or the other be powered before the other?
I really don't want to buy another HD again, so if their is a logical, sequential order of using/ connecting external firewire devices I'd love to be educated. (Both the iBook and Sony cd burner were a packaged deal from ebay, so no manuals).
Also is their a way to export music from an iPod to another authorized Mac?

You can use Safe Mode any time that Repair Disk from the OS X 10.3 Install CD is recommended. However, if things have gone downhill badly, sometimes you can start up from the CD (you don't have) when you can't start up at all from the hard drive (including starting up in Safe Mode).
If you don't leave the iBook on 24/7 (as I do mine; I just sleep the display), you will want to use some utility or run the maintenance routines through Terminal. I leave mine on all the time so they run automatically overnight.
I'd be looking for those discs, Lee, before you need them.

External DVD Burner Questions

I am looking into purchasing an external firewire/USB 2.0 DVD burner with Lightscribe for my PowerMac G5. I have 2 questions: 1) Do Apple stores (at the mall) sell DVD burners? I cannot remember if I seen one there or not. 2) What burner would you recommend? I need one with Lightscribe and would like to have firewire. The USB 2.0 is not necessary. I want an external drive if possible as well. Thank you for your help and advice!

Be aware that lightscribe technology is still quite in its infancy and others have had trouble with it. In addition, any attempt to label disks often yields in unstable shorter-lived disks than leaving the existing label side empty. I use jewelcase inserts to keep track of my disks.
If you must get lightscribe, some Apple Stores do sell LaCie Lightscribe drives occasionally. I've not always seen it there, and it really depends on the stock. You can look up places like http://www.macconnection.com/ http://www.maczone.com/ http://www.cdw.com/ and http://www.macsales.com/ for possible compatible drives. In addition, http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/ has a good drive database to search from compatible drives.

Burning Question (unreliable Toast)

Hi.
A problem and some questions.
My Toast (6.1.1) keeps freezing and Force Quit doesn't work.
I have deleted pref files (found two), reinstalled, cretaed new user, to no avail.
That's the problem. Now the Q's:

I prefer Toast over DVDSP as you can control burning speed. But having said this, I did burn today from DVDSP (I have the bundled version that comes with FC Studio 5) and it plays well on two stand alone DVD players I tried. I used Verbatim X16 media. Is burning speed still an issue?

If I go buy Toast 7 will it stop hanging on me?

I prefer Toast also. As to the speed issue, it may be a non issue if they are playing okay. Where are the DVDs going? Clients? Friends & family? Youself? If clients then you need to be absolutely sure (different story if replicating discs and this is just samples, you can explain the issue of whaat cause playback problems from time to time), the later, you can always fix it.

Sounds like you did some of the troubleshooting, have you tried also repairing permissions or run diskwarrior? Sounds like if shutting it off then starting it up cured the problem, the boot up clean up repairs may have helped. Are you using an external Burner? Do you have any FW peripherals attached? Sometimes I have had hangs like that from bad cables or power supply coming slightly off, look liked power but not really getting to the device. After the reinstall to you go back to 6.1.1 (or is that your install?) I had an earlier version of 6 that I had to upgrade to 6.1.1.
Has the sytem changed recently? (It sounds like Toast had been okay until now?)

Quick photo ordering question...

I am in the process of ordering a bunch of photos, and I have a question: When I select the photos, say 25 of them, then select "Order Prints", I see all of my photos in a list, but I have to select the quantity for EACH PHOTO! Is there ANY way I can just say "print 1 4x6 of all pictures"? I will be doing more photos and I hate to have to go to each one if I have an album of 40-50 pictures.

Up in the top right corner, you should see a Quick Order label and a double-arrow button. Click the up button once and it will do exactly what you want.

With MSAccess, my understanding is that if you have a string with length under
255 it's type is TEXT, and over 255 it's MEMO... is this right?String: max. 255 chars
Memo: max 64000 chars.

But what does this string look like if the column will hold strings of text longer
than 255? Try it. Might puke, might truncate the String, might autoconvert. I don't know. You'll see.
Do I only specify the size like TEXT(400), or do I list the type like MEMO(400) or what?If you expect it to be > 255 chars, why not simply define the field as Memo right away? I doubt you can write a Memo to a textfield.

Quick dynamic update question

If I send an edit from FCP to Color, do some grading (including keyframing), and then get a revised EDL through or have to alter the cut in FCP will Color be clever enough to automatically or otherwise update the clip timings? (assuming I'm still working in the original timeline)

Quick time zone question

I am using Java to do some date/time formating and have a quick question.
Is Indiana's timezone "IET"? I know most of Indiana doesn't observe daylight savings time, but they are eastern when things are normal... IET seems to produce the correct time, but I just wanted to double check before I make any assumptions. Thanks for the info.

Actually it is "America/Indianapolis". Those three-character abbreviations have been deprecated because they are ambiguous (both North America and Australia have "eastern" times, for example).
If you have a Java 1.4 SDK, then have a look in this directory:
C:\j2sdk1.4.1\jre\lib\zi
(modify according to where you actually installed the SDK); each file in that directory tree represents a timezone.
