Quick Develop Panel Missing

I'm using LR2.4 on both MacPro and a MacBook Pro.  On the latter my quick develop panel is just not there! (See screenshot below).
It's not closed (I usually work with auto close on my notebook), but not teher at all.  Any ideas how to reinstate it?
Cheers

Thanks to you both.  Thought I knew LR pretty well, but that's a new one.
Cheers

  • Quick Develop Panel - LR 3.2 - (where is it?)

As I learn about LR3 and all the things that the Develop Module can do, I also learned that there is something called the Quick Develop Panel in the Library Module, located beneath the Histogram Panel.  The only problem is that I don't seem to be able to find it - it's as if it wan't there, because there is nothing named Quick Develop with an arrow beside it, like all the other panels, that I can click on to open it, or close it, as the case may be.  I am obviously missing something, or maybe more than something.   Is there something I have to initiate or open from one of the Menu items to enable this panel?  Any insight that anyone can provide will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

Hal, thank you so much - the things they don't tell you sometimes in these books would sometimes fill a book.

  • Why does Auto Tone button in Quick Develop panel fail with Win 7 platform?

I have been a user of Photoshop since the inception of Photoshop CS.  I recently purchased a subscription to Photoshop CC, which comes with Photoshop Lightroom 5.
I have never used Lightroom, so I purchased the Kindle version of Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5, CLASSROOM IN A BOOK.  I have this eBook installed on the same Windows 7 PC that I have Photoshop CC and Lightroom 5 installed on.
I ran into a problem in a section of the first chapter titled “Using Quick Develop in the Library module.”  This section, in part, instructs how to quickly improve the color tonal balance of an image.
After selecting the required image from the sample images for this lesson, I found the histogram in my Lightroom 5 Loupe view to be the same as the lesson’s photo illustration for this original image.  As described in the lesson, the photo did not have a balanced tonal distribution.
I followed the lesson’s instruction:  “4. In the Quick Develop panel, watch the tone distribution curve shift in the Histogram panel as you click the Auto Tone button.  Although the automatic adjustment hasn’t done a perfect job with this particular photo, there is substantial improvement; a lot of image detail has been recovered from the overexposed hair and face and there is more depth in the mid-tones. The contrast, however, remains unimpressive, and the darker areas still look flat.”  (See Adobe Creative Team [2013-08-06]. Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5: Classroom in a Book [Kindle Locations 1024-1026]. Pearson Education. Kindle Edition.)
This is where I ran into a problem.  After clicking on the Auto Tone Button in the Quick Develop panel, my results were completely different than what was described and shown in the Histogram displayed in the lesson.  Instead, in my Lightroom 5, clicking the Lightroom Auto Tone button has increased the exposure, making it even more over exposed than the original image!  Therefore continuing to follow the instructions in the lesson was a waste of time, since my Auto Tone results were so totally out of sync from that of the lesson.
This disturbed me, so I decided to open the same sample image in Photoshop CC, Camera RAW 8.2.  Camera RAW provides an Auto Button which improves exposure and color tonal balance to an image.  The results were exactly the same as the Auto Tone functionality in the Quick Develop panel in Lightroom 5.  I couldn't understand why the lesson instructor's results were so positive and mine were so disastrous.  Then it hit me!  I discovered that the lesson writer of this Adobe Classroom in a Book was using Lightroom 5 on a MAC computer.  I could tell by looking at his lesson images.  Just to be sure, I tried this lesson scenario on a different PC with Win 7, Photoshop CC and Lightroom 5.  I got the same failed results.
I’ve heard from other professionals that Photoshop and Lightroom software only work properly on Apple computers.  I’ve always thought that this was a myth, but have infrequently experienced a good result using the Auto button feature in Photoshop Camera Raw on a Windows PC platform, so I don’t use it often.
What really has me frustrated is the fact that Adobe no longer has a direct way to report software defects to their tech support or process improvement  teams.  Their online bug reporting process is woefully inadequate.  I've tried twice to create a support ticket on the Adobe site, only to have my case withdrawn mysteriously.  I've tried their online chat, telephone support, and sent emails with image attachments to the address provided by their agent on the telephone.  My email goes unanswered and my open cases somehow get closed.
Any ideas on how to get this issue addressed by Adobe are sincerely appreciated.

Adobe tries to improve the Auto Tone function from time-to-time.  I used to completely underexpose an image that had a few bright spots such as car headlights turned on in an otherwise properly exposed image.  This is probably what you’re seeing, LR now guessing brighter more of the time, and it might change, again, in a future version so don’t be too concerned.
As others have said, Auto Tone works on some images and not on others, and Adobe can only try to make it work better on more images by changing how it works on all images.  For the lesson example, the author purposely used an image that was improved with auto-tone that LR did at the time of authorship.   You will never have a picture exactly like the lesson’s example, either, so it’s not that important if the lesson is 100% accurate for future versions of LR, just that the general idea that some pictures are improved in certain ways by Auto Tone will still be applicable, and you’ll need to learn, by trial and error, what to do when Auto Tone doesn’t work well or the image needs further adjustment.  That is the important lesson, what to do with your own pictures.
You can reset a particular slider after a bad Auto Tone by double clicking on that slider.  The Exposure slider is the one I reset most often.
You can also LR set the Auto Tone value for just one slider by holding down the Shift key and double clicking on that one slider.  I do this a lot for the Blacks slider to set the black point, without messing up everything else.

  • Library Module - Quick Develop Panel

    Hi,
I was really hoping that the Quick Develop panel in the Library Module which I sometimes use if there are minor touchups needed to a photo would have been redesigned to more closely resemble and work like the Basic panel in the Develop Module.  Certainly sliders instead of those arrow buttons would be a very useful change.
I'm pretty sure that this has been a popular enhancement request.  Does anyone know why this wans't changed?
    Thanks,
    Eli

  • Can LR show the numbers in Quick developement panel?

Try to use quick development panel, it is easy to use but for exposure, clarity and vibrance you cannot see how many stops you have adjusted.
Can LR show the numbers in Quick development panel?
    Any comment?

    >I think that Quick Deve function is useless if you can not see the how >many stops you have adjusted.
When LR first came out I did not "get" the Quick Dev function. Luminous Landscape have an excellent video tutorial for LR by Michael Reichmann and Jeff Schewe.
It explains that the QD function is there to allow you to make quick visual adjustments to images to assist in choosing picks / rejects and generally culling a shoot. Until you have the exposure / contrast / colour balance somewhere near correct, it is difficult to properly evaluate a shot. Using QD like this then makes sense, it's not supposed to duplicate or take the place of the develop module.
Note that the adjustments you make in QD are relative, that is if you select a group of generally underexposed shots and increase the exposure the amount will be relative to each shots original exposure level.

  • Quick Develop Module Missing in LR5?

    Hello,
I am using LR5 and my Quick Develop Module is missing. My photos are online and so this is not the problem. I rebooted but still no Quick Develop Module. I can use the other modules. Please help?

Quick Develop is in the Library Module, not the Develop Module (where it has always been).
If you don't see it in the Library Module, then you need to right-click on any right-panel header (like Keyword List) and select Quick Develop

  • How can I get the QUICK  DEVELOP  panel to appear when editing video in Lightroom 4

When editing video, the only panel that appears at right hand side is the the one silimar to the developing of still shots. But of course, it is greyed out, thus preventing its use when editing video.

Thanks a lot Jay. Right clicking on a panel brought up QUICK  DEVELOP. I've searched through books galore and none mention this.

  • Quick Develop Reset values not  working in 1.3

Clicking the Setting names like Exposure or Recovery Quick Develop panel in Library module should reset the respective value to its default. But it doesn't!
Running LR 1.3 on Windows XP.

    Lee Jay,
The fact that a Tool Tip (Set .... to 0*) implies that clicking the label for Exposure etc will set the adjustment to
0 is probably the underlying reason why Matteo expects that clicking on the label would have some effect. In version 1.2 clicking on the label did in fact set the adjustment to zero, but the badge remained - I filed a bug on that a loooooong time back. In version 1.3 and now 1.3.1 clicking on the label does nothing. Looks like I need to report it again :-(
Zero rather than the default value.

  • Lightroom 4: Massive BUG with White Balance / Quick Develop. Totally Unreliable!

I just recently updated from LR3 and just now found a massive bug concerning the white balance adjustments in the quick develop module.
After a studio shooting and especially after weddings I use the "make warmer" adjustment in the quick develop panel to give all (a few thousand NEFs) a nicer look all at once.
The great thing about this is - like all quick developments - that it increases the color temperature relative to each image's starting white balance.
Yesterday I wanted to edit my first wedding in LR4 and like in LR3 applied one click "make warmer" to all images at once (previously WB was "as shot").
While I browsed through the images to rate them I noticed some of them were very "pinkish".
After closer inspection it came out that a lot of images (50%-60%) had the following custom WB set: 5316, Tint: +10.
It is always this exact combination no matter what the "as shot" WB was.
That setting of course applies way too much magenta to a lot of images.
After resetting the WB of single images to "as shot" and selecting "make warmer" once again the images look fine and get appropriate WB values.
But every time I select more than one image to apply "make warmer" a lot of them get the strange value of 5316 and +10.
Sometimes it's even just the first few images of the selection that get correct values and all the following ones get the off value. It appears to be totally random.
I tried completely resetting all images prior to "make warmer", setting them to different camera profiles first and even switched them to Process 2010 again. But absolutely no luck!  :-(
The "make warmer" tool gives me totally unusable results.
I find it strange, that I couldn't find anything about that on the net.
    PLEASE fix this ASAP.
To apply WB to thousands of images individually is a real pain.
I would be glad to support you fixing the issue.
    My setup:
    Nikon D700
    Nikon D300s
(Both cameras affected, I only shoot NEF)
    Win7 x64
LR4.1 as well as LR4.2 RC

    @ssprengel
I get your point but that is exactly my problem.
Not only is there no pattern but also once I reset a file that got 5316+10 to "as shot" and select "make warmer" for it again it does get the correct value! As long as I select it as a single file without others.
So just to simplify my findings and explain what I have been doing all night:
    - SELECT 5 files in Library View (all freshly imported, no settings altered, WB "as shot")
    File 1: 5700 / -8
    File 2: 5500 / -8
    File 3: 5550 / -8
    File 4: 5450 / -6
    File 5: 5500 / -7
    - CLICK "make warmer" once
    Result:
    File 1: 6089 / -8
    File 2: 5867 / -8
    File 3: 5316 / +10
    File 4: 5316 / +10
    File 5: 5316 / +10
    1 and 2 are okay!
    - SELECT 3-5
    - RESET THEM
    Result:
    File 3: 5550 / -8
    File 4: 5450 / -6
    File 5: 5500 / -7
    - CLICK "make warmer" again
    Result:
    File 3: 5316 / +10
    File 4: 5812 / -6
    File 5: 5867 / -7
File 4 and 5 are okay!
    - SELECT File 3 again
    - RESET IT
    - CLICK "make warmer"
    Result:
    File 3: 5923 / -8
now File 3 is okay, too.
    It is completely random!
But that is no way to work, of course.
I have two weddings from last week and am going nuts already.

  • Quick Develop Missing Saturation and Sharpen

Does anyone know why Saturation and Sharpen is missing from Quick Develop, or how to get them back?
Since Vibrance usually works on cools first, this is a terrible option for Portraits. Saturation does warm colors first, so it makes more sense. Vibrance makes the sky or water jump out before the flesh tones, so I am not just making it up. Seems like a silly thing to drop out.

  • I lost the Development Panel on right side. Only Histogram shows.

I am using LR5 and it has been working for me pretty well but today I may have accidentally clicked on something that resulted in the loss of those Development panels. Only the Histogram shows. I wish to restore all the missing panels.  I was too afraid to check on various things in the Toolbar (such as Settings, View, etc) and at any rate now the Toolbar has also disappeared. In short, I cannot do any post processing of my RAW files.
I am using an Intel Mac OS X 10.7. Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Developer Panel is Blank. How To Restore?

In  Lightroom 3, the Developer panel is now blank. It used to display an array of tools. How can I restore these tools?

Good grief. How could I have missed that little arrow that shows or hides the tools? Probably because I seldom hide tools. Oh well. This is exactly the kind of solution one hopes for from a forum like this. Thanks.

  • Edits Won't Show in Develop Panel

I just purchased Lightroom 5.2 and am trying to edit without success.  In the Develop panel, I can see and use any of the edit adjustments/sliders on the right.  The edits are visible in the small photo in the filmstrip area at the bottom of the page but no changes occur to the main screen image as they are applied.  Behavior is the same regardless of file type (.jpg or .NEF).
The photos will accept edits in the Library panel (quick edits) and apply/display them to the main screen image.
Is this is setting issue, bug, etc?

ooh please someone respond. I'm having this exact issue now. i have even tried to re-install an older version with no success.

Are you saying you have lost the Develop module--which you can restore by doing a right-click on the top menu and putting a checkmark next to Develop:
Or have you have merely set the righthand panel to auto-hide and can undo this by clicking the little arrow at the right:
