Quick exporting question

Hello,
I finished my movie and I would like to export it but I want to be sure about something: will iMovie keep my original file? The one that I have now?
I would like to keep it in case I want to do some more modifications later and I just want to be sure that it won't compress my original file and I'll have only the compressed one in the end.
Another question: in which format would you recomend that I export my movie to keep a good image quality and burn it on a dvd then? My movie is 3min30sec long.
Thank you.
iMac Intel Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Hi barb1 - yes, your imovie project will remain un-touched. In File>Share you can choose the iDVD option, and your project will be automatically sent on to iDVD - no need to worry about formats etc. Or, of course, you can click on the iDVD button in the panel beneath the Clips Pane.

• Quick export question (i hope) for Reader

I'm using the following button created in livecycle:
form1.Submit::click - (JavaScript, client)
xfa.host.exportData("",0);
In Acrobat Pro, I get a prompt to save the file as .xml (desired behavior)
I have enabled the form with "extend features in adobe reader" using Pro and have the 'save as' menu item available in Reader, so I know that is working.
However, when the export button is clicked in Reader, it flickers and does nothing.
Any ideas on this one?
Thanks!

Thank you very much for your answer.  I'm not sure I understand, or maybe my question wasn't clear.. I'm developing a form in LiveCycle but I've used the extensions in Acrobat Pro to enable it for Reader.
If these are available to turn on in LiveCycle, can you point me to some documentation on how to turn it on, or describe where these features are located?  I've combed through much of the documentation / help and haven't seen anything on this.
Thanks for your help..

• Hi all .hope all is well ..A quick trim question

Hi all
Hope all is well ......
I have a quick trim question I want to remove part of a string and I am finding it difficult to achieve what I need
I set the this.setTitle(); with this
String TitleName = "Epod Order For:    " + dlg.ShortFileName() +"    " + "Read Only";
        dlg.ShortFileName();
        this.setTitle(TitleName);
        setFieldsEditable(false);
Now I what to use a jbutton to remove the read only part of the string. This is what I have so far
void EditjButton_actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
        String trim = this.getTitle();
          int stn;
          if ((stn = trim.lastIndexOf(' ')) != -2)
            trim = trim.substring(stn);
        this.setTitle(trim);
Please can some one show me or tell me what I need to do. I am at a lose

there's several solutions:
// 1 :
//you do it twice because there's a space between "read" and "only"
int stn;
if ((stn = trim.lastIndexOf(' ')) != -1){
        trim = trim.substring(0,stn);
if ((stn = trim.lastIndexOf(' ')) != -1){
          trim = trim.substring(0,stn);
//2 :
//if the string to remove is always "Read Only":
if ((stn = trim.toUpperCase().lastIndexOf("READ ONLY")) != -1){
       trim = trim.substring(0,stn);
//3: use StringTokenizer:
StringTokenizer st=new StringTokenizer(trim," ");
        String result="";
        int count=st.countTokens();
        for(int i=0;i<count-2;i++){
          result+=st.nextToken()+" ";
        trim=result.trim();//remove the last spaceyou may find other solutions too...
perhaps solution 2 is better, because you can put it in a separate method and remove the string you want to...
somthing like:
public String removeEnd(String str, String toRemove){
      int n;
      String result=str;
      if ((n = str.toUpperCase().lastIndexOf(toRemove.toUpperCase())) != -1){
       result= str.substring(0,stn);
      return result;
}i haven't tried this method , but it may work...

Hello,
You wrote:
CAN THIS ERROR CAUSE BIG DESASTER TO DB IN FUTUREThe error message EXP-00091: Exporting questionable statistics just warns you that the statistics
were exported but these statistics may be not useable.
So, if you have to import these Tables, you may have to collect again the statistics of these Tables.
It's not relative to this problem but why don't you use DataPump (expdp/impdp) ?
Please find enclosed a link about DataPump, it's much more powerful than the classical export/import:

Hi,
>>because I exported dump from oracle10G
Then you use the exp 10g version, right ? To move data DOWN a version(s), you need to export using that lower versions EXP tool and using IMP that lower version tool.
Take a look at this below?

I think that there is no problem ... but you can use also as I said before the statistics=none clause, but remember that you need to use the exp 9i version ...

• Quick script question

Hi all,
Could anyone advise me if i can add anything within - header('Location: http://www.mysite.co.uk/thankyou.html'); in the script below so as the page
re- directs back to the main index page after a few seconds ?
Thankyou for any help.
<?php
$to = '[email protected]';
$subject = 'Feedback form results';
// prepare the message body
$message = '' . $_POST['Name'] . "\n";
$message .= '' . $_POST['E-mail'] . "\n";
$message .= '' . $_POST['Phone'] . "\n";
$message .= '' . $_POST['Message'];
// send the email
mail($to, $subject, $message, null, '');
header('Location: http://www.mysite.co.uk/thankyou.html');
?>

andy7719 wrote:
Mr powers gave me that script so im rather confused at this point in time
I don't think I "gave" you that script. I might have corrected a problem with it, but I certainly didn't write the original script.
What you're using is far from perfect, but to suggest it would lay you open to MySQL injection attacks is ludicrous. For you to be prone to MySQL injection, you would need to be entering the data into a MySQL database, not sending it by email.
There is a malicious attack known as email header injection, which is a serious problem with many PHP email processing scripts. However, to be prone to email header injection, you would need to use the fourth argument of mail() to insert form data into the email headers. Since your fourth argument is null, that danger doesn't exist.
One thing that might be worth doing is checking that the email address doesn't contain a lot of illegal characters, because that's a common feature of header injection attacks. This is how I would tidy up your script:
<?php
$suspect = '/Content-Type:|Bcc:|Cc:/i';
// send the message only if the E-mail field looks clean
if (preg_match($suspect, $_POST['E-mail'])) {
      header('Location: http://www.example.com/sorry.html');
      exit;
} else {
      $to = '[email protected]';
      $subject = 'Feedback form results';
      // prepare the message body
      $message = 'Name: ' . $_POST['Name'] . "\n";
      $message .= 'E-mail: ' . $_POST['E-mail'] . "\n";
      $message .= 'Phone: ' . $_POST['Phone'] . "\n";
      $message .= 'Message: ' . $_POST['Message'];
      // send the email
      mail($to, $subject, $message);
      header('Location: http://www.example.com/thankyou.html');
      exit;
?>
Create a new page called sorry.html, with a message along the lines of "Sorry, there was an error sending your message". Don't put anything about illegal attacks. Just be neutral.
By the way, when posting questions here, don't use meaningless subject lines, such as "Quick script question". If you're posting here, it's almost certain to be a question about a script. It doesn't matter whether it's quick. Use the subject line to tell people what it's about.

• Basic Exporting Question

My main question is a very basic exporting question, but here is a super-condensed explanation of my big-picture goal for context:
Large (~450 MB) aiff on CD --> trim w/ Quicktime --> small (~16 MB) MP3 in iTunes
I would like to take an audio file (aiff) that is approximately 450 MB and export it from Quicktime and in doing so, reduce the file size and convert it to MP3. When I simply try to export it, it doesn't ask me about what size I want, nor does it give the option of MP3 formatting.
I have figured out how to reach my goal, but it's a mess. After I make my trims in QT, I have to:
1. select "share" instead of "export".
2. It asks me what size I want and I select small.
3. The file is then exported as a Quicktime movie into Mail and the size is reduced from 450 MB to about 20 MB.
4. I then have to "right-click" on the attachment in the email that is created,
5. save the attachment,
6. discard the email,
7. import the file into iTunes, and
8. create an MP3 in iTunes to finally arrive at my goal.
This seems like a ridiculously convoluted process to change a large aiff to a small MP3 and put it in iTunes. Any suggestions?

Thanks. I guess the basic answer to my question is that it can't be done in one or two fell swoops. The problem is that it starts on a burned disc, and I need to make edits to it before it ends up in iTunes (to be eventually used in iWeb). I was hoping to avoid juggling back and forth between iTunes and QT. I either would have to send it back to QT to do the edits after -->iTunes-->mp3, or import the large file from the CD to QT, make the edits, save changes, import large file to iTunes, convert to mp3.

• Exporting question #53427

I read through exporting questions for over the last year, but I came away more confused than ever. Here is my problem (which others had, but I'm looking for the quickest solution):
I made a 3 hour video on iMovie 8 only to read about its limitations afterward. I used information I found on some post to download iMovie 6 and then export my iMovie 8 project to it for its finalization.
I tried to export the movie LARGE size and it took 6 hours only to end up with the message error -2125.
I then tried to export to Quicktime, but it was scheduled to take 30+ hours.
Is there an easier way to get the iMovie 8 project into iMovie 6 in order to complete it?
(As a side note, I have a 2003 copy of Final Cut Pro which I have not installed. Would this be worth installing on my MacBook to transfer the project to that?)
Thanks as always.

iDVD accepts projects of up to 120min.. so 2 DVD would be enough, allthough ≤60min allow the best quality in iDVD ..

• Quick Export Video Question

Hi.
When exporting video, under the compressor tab, if you select "None", does it output the video as "lossless"? Thanks

JIM i must correct you on this one, and hexcode99, you should look at this: this comes from my other post at '
http://www.adobeforums.com/webx?53@@.59b7bec1/30'
My conclusion is that None is not lossless, in fact it is the same as PlanarRGB and None takes so much more space than it. This is rendering from a AVCHD sony camcorder hdr-sr12
'After comparing many codecs, here are my results(click on them and compare them with your browser tabs):
ProRes422
ProRes422(HQ)
Apple None
Animation
Planar RGB
and the original footage: AVCHD
As you may notice, planarRGB and None look exactly the same pixel by pixel. Animation just looks screwed up.'

• How to export question

Quick question, I recently upgraded from FCE 2 to FCE 3.5HD. Before, when I was done with a project I would just export the sequence to Compressor and it would launch Compressor and have the sequence loaded in Compressor. Now with FCE 3.5, when I export my sequence, it launches Compressor, but it is blank. I do not know how to get me finished sequence in there....any help would be appreciated....

Export your movie as QT-movie, non-self contained or self contained (bigger file).
Open compressor and import the file.

• After Effects CS4 Exporting Question

I am creating several After Effects CS4 compositions that will be used in a Premier Pro CS4 project. Right now I am importing the AE compositions into Premiere with out exporting them first. It is real convenient to be able to click into PP and see the current changes take effect. My question is this, once I am done tweaking a composition should I be exporting it in another format or I is it ok to use the AE file as is? Am I suffering any quality loss by not going to quicktime or one of the other choices?
And in PP you hit enter to render. Is the AE equivalant hitting the space bar and playing the timeline? I see the green line above any changes but I didn't know if there is another step to maximize the quality of the finished product.
Thanks in advance for any help.

R-Cole wrote:

If you suffered any quality loss, you'd know your settings are wrong. Most commonly people make a mess of field order, which of course you can neatly avoid by using DynamicLink such as you already do. The rest is more or less a matter of personal preference and how much performance is consumed by live rendering the AE compositions vs. how much juice your machine has. You wouldn't use that workflow on very complex projects where rendering a single frame can take up to several minutes, but for straight titles and color corrections it's okay.
R-Cole wrote:

The green line refers to frames stored in RAM, the blue ones to the disk cache, should you use it. Read the help files on how to generate RAM previews to populate both caches. After you have RAM-previewed each segement of the timeline and use the disk cache, it may be possible to get realtime spacebar playback, but there is no guarantee for that. After all, AE is primarily foicused on compositing, not RT editing. There's one caveat, however. The disk cache will only be used, if AE thinks it could not render the frames quick enough, so in your simple scenario it may never be used. And of course specific chnages will invalidate caches, so you's have to re-render. It really depends.

• Widescreen export question

hello, quick question. I shot in widescreen mode, and edited in an anamorphic sequence. I am all done with my project and I want to have one widescreen copy for my computer, and one for DVD. Is there anything wrong with exporting using the conversion and telling FCP to produce an actual widescreen video and using that file for the DVD also or is it better to make 2 different files?

no, not as bad as all that. in this case it means that the video signal is passed through the DV codec one more time ... the DV data is decompressed using the DV codec for display - thats what you're seeing in the canvas - by exporting using qt conversion that data is then compressed using the chosen codec. in this case its the same codec as the source footage ... although the loss of quality in this instance will likely be minimal, impercptible to most, any recompression should be avoided when at all possible (in anolog tape terms its akin to a generational loss, like making a copy of a copy)

• Okay quick easy question for all who have successfully uploaded videos

hi, this is my first post in the Apple forums!
my quick question:
I have Quicktime Pro, and am currently exporting a video to the iPod
but it is taking an unusually long time...
is this normal (and by long I mean I'm @ 16% and it has been 5 minutes)
do I just need to be more patient?
thanks
^_^

don't say that...
I successfully uploaded videos to my iPod I just was not doing it right
my question has been answered already so STOP BRINGING IT UP AGAIN
also, look... many people just got their iPods today and are kinda anxious to see the video capibilities work on them, so If you do not have anything constructive to say (by calling us n00bs), then I suggest you don't say anything at all

• DVX footage - Exporting question

Hi Guys,
I know I am going to get some reply's directing me toward tutorials and such but i'm in a bit of a tight spot and I need some instant karma. I have searched here and on DVX user but cannot find what I need.
I shot some footage of my g/f yesterday and we need to send it way across the Atlantic via my idisk asap. It's something she has choreographed for an animation. It's only preliminary footage but they DO need it and i'm not getting the sample video files I was hoping for.
Due to the crappy light conditions in the studio we used I shot it using my DVX 100's standard scene file F1 (progressive off).
Using Final cut 5 (on a G4 Mac Powerbook, running Leopard) I imported it set to DV NTSC (I'm in the UK but my DVX is NTSC). I didn't go for the 29.97 as I thought that was used when shooting 24p.
The footage looked fine on the time line and in the viewer. I only made a very basic edit and added text slugs at the beginning and then exported it using Quicktime Conversion. I exported using Apple Intermediate Codec and MPEG 4 but when I watch them back both codecs show nasty lines around the edges of anything moving ie. my girlfriend.
I assume this is something to do with interlacing but unfortunately I am not yet at the level of understanding to either know this for sure or, more importantly, do anything about it.
If anybody can I would really appreciate a shove in the right direction here. The footage we shot is clean and I REALLY need the footage we export to be clean too. I also understand that this is a very complex subject and I am currently reading as much as I can to try and learn about all things video.
Right now it's about getting my settings right and knowing which format is best to export to.
p.s. Should have mentioned that this is probably going to only be viewed on computer monitors.
Hope someone can help,
Double ohh

X,
Apart from my iDisk being the usual drag it is, everything went superbly. I played around a bit and quite quickly came up with my clips in the following formats;
Exported through Quicktime Conversion - Quicktime movie - H.264
Quality: High
Key rate: 24
Frame rate: current
Key frame: Every 24
I left the frame size native and checked Deinterlace.
I am a bit unsure as to why the files came out differing sizes as the 4 takes were all from the same angle and for the same length. The lighting may have changed a bit, but not much.
The largest file came out at 108MB and the smallest (of four) was 78MB; quite a result (for me).
I know you guys must get a continuous flow of questions like mine from people (like me) who don't know the basics. Especially concerning DVX related issues. I am actually reading Barry Green's Book and regularly reading posts from the likes of Shane Ross and Noah and checking sites like Ken Stone. But it's a tricky subject to get to grips with and I really appreciate the chance to be able to get help and advice here.
Thank you very much for your time and your patience today. It was a great help and I don't think I would have gotten the footage where it needed to be had you not given me such a decent explanation. Thank you very much.
As an experiment I exported one of the files again changing the frame size to 640x480 and the frame rate to 29. It cam out at 62MB and just as good quality.
All the clips I exported did not suffer from the lines that I had previously been experiencing.
Thank you once again,
Double Ohh

• File Export question and ID3 Tags

First question, have tried using Apple's recommended method of using QT Pro to export movies as "iPod" but when attempting to sync to an iPod get an incompatible file format. What is the "right" export option?
Secondly, on one file I've imported it into iTunes then set all the ID3 fields to my liking, then uploaded into iTunes U but the fields are incorrect. I've tried deleting the file from iTunes U several times and re-imported the file into iTunes and set the ID3 fields and still nothing. Any suggestions on how to get my file up and hold the ID3 fields info?
thanks

If you've been having ID3 issues with MP3s, that was recently corrected (well, just the album art thing, everything else worked as far as I know). I've had bad luck with third party ID3 tag editors, so we are recommending people do it through iTunes.app
Since you are already doing that, I'd be worried that my site was set to overwrite the tags (this is an option). If you're the admin, you can check it, otherwise you can ask them.
