Quick find a clip embedded in sequence

I have 85 sequences on the timeline. There are some clips that are scattered around in those sequences that I need to replace. Those bad clips got messed up and has no timecode for me to just redigitize.
I need a quick way to find a clip within the 85 sequences before taking it offline. I know I can label a clip with a color and scroll along every sequence till I find it but is there an easier way?
Thanks-

If I trashed it and take it offline and later find the clip in the time line, I would have no way knowing what the clip looked like and would not be able to replace the clip with the new digitized media.
I can't reconnect the new media because the timecodes are different. All the bad clips I want to delete has a timecode that starts at 00:00:00:00. There must have been a bug in th FCP when I digitized the reel at the time. I just fixed the bug by upgrading. (The bug was the reel and timecodes would disappear after batch digitizing was done)
Although my grammar *****, I hope this is clearer.

  • Easiest was to copy clips from one sequence to another?

    Hi,
Instead of copy/paste is their a different, quicker way to move clips from one sequence to another?
    Thanks

Hi Patrick, Your always ready to help
No that's not what I'm looking to do. (or maybe I just didn't understand what you wrote.)
What I mean is if I have 4 sequences open and I wanted to move a clip from sequence 2 to sequence 4. What I do now is copy the clip in sequence 2 and go to sequence 4 and paste it.
    Is there a easier way?
    Thanks

  • Applying the same effect to multiple clips in a sequence?

I have edited a trailer containing multiple clips in a sequence and I want to add the same amount of sharpen to each clip. Is there a quick way of doing this instead of clicking on each clip seperately and applying the effect, adjusting it and so on....?

If you already have filters applied to the clips, then open the first clip in the Viewer and apply the filter you want - make adjustments as needed. Select all of the other clips in the Timeline that you want to apply the same filter and settings, then drag the filter from the clip in the Viewer to the highlighted clips in the Timeline.

  • Need to put HD clips in SD sequence without aliasing, any way to do this without converting clips to ProRes?

Editing a 1080p project shot with Canon 5DMkii.
Have a 1080p H.264 sequence that I planned to change to ProRes when all finished, before exporting to make a DVD.
Many shots have problems, and the only way to get around them is to reframe.
I figured, no problem, DVD video is SD, so I have 600+ pixels of frame-height to play with.
Now I have a rough cut and I have put some clips into a sequence preset to 720x405.
Unfortunately, when the original clips are anything other than 100% of their 1920x1080 size, it’s aliased as heck.
EXCEPT when you convert the original clip to ProRes.
I didn’t convert to ProRes before editing because it quintuples the size (the project has 45GB of footage and my internal 1TB HD has limited space), plus on this project the small difference in final-product quality that converting before editing brings wouldn’t matter.
I really do need to reframe many of the shots, and I wouldn’t terribly terribly mind converting to ProRes now, except that when you do, Compressor adds “ProRes…” to the new clip name, so you couldn’t just reconnect the already-edited sequence with the newly converted clips (or could you)?
    So,
Can the downsizing of HD clips in an SD sequence be done without aliasing?
If not, can a whole sequence (15 minutes) be reconnected to clips to clips that
have the “Apple prores 444 hq” added to their name? (I tried and the converted clip is grayed out, can’t select it)
       3.  If not, can the whole 45GB of footage be converted to ProRes, but keep original names unchanged?
If none of the above is possible, any other solution?
    Thank you very much

That is a non-standard sequence setting. SD in NTSC land isn't 16:9.  It is 4:3 anamorphic.  720x486...anamorphic (squeezed).
Editing H.264 straight from the camera is wrought with errors. Besides the sluggishness of it, the non-RT playback...exporting has all sorts of issues.  Not exporting proper sections of footage, not exporting the full sequence (the tail might get cut off), loss of sync upon export...much more.  All of those issues have been mentioned on various FCP forums.  H.264 is not a codec FCP 7 deals with well at all.
Converting to ProRes before editing is your only way to ensure vary little issues.  And converting to ProRes 422 is recommended.  Not HQ...not 4444.  Your footage will not see any benefit from those formats, even though they sound more impressive. All you will get is larger files.  Heck, since you are going to DVD, ProRes LT would be the optimal choice.  Even if you went to BluRay, ProRes LT would be fine for that format.  H.264 is an 8-bit format...ProRes LT or 422 will get it to 10-bit, and allow for better grading.  But ZERO benefit will be had with HQ or 4444...those are for other uses...with higher end formats.
Not enough space? Get another drive.  Internal SATA, if you have a MacPro...are 2TB for under $150.  You can get an external 2TB for $200-$300.
    3. Yes...use MPEG STREAMCLIP to convert the footage to ProRes.  422 or LT are recommended.  Then you can reconnect, but you will need to make a new sequence that is ProRes...not H.264.

  • How do I transfer multiple clips to my sequence, Video only, I don't want the Audio.

I used Ctrl + A in my bin to select all clips, I drag it to my sequence but it puts both audio and video, all I want is the video, and the Source Track Selection only shows when selecting one clip.

Double-click the Desert Footage bin to open it. There are a series of short shots in this bin.
    1. Click the Icon View button on the bin to see thumbnails for the clips.
    2. Drag and drop the thumbnails in the bin to position them in the order you would like them to appear in the sequence.
    3. Make sure the Desert Footage bin is selected. Select all of the clips in the bin by pressing Control + A (Windows) or Command + A (Mac OS).
    4. Drag and drop the clips into the sequence, positioning them on the Video 1 track right at the beginning of the Timeline, above the music clip.

What do you think its trying to say? When i follow the instructions, it overwrites the audio.

  • Project renames sequence and all clips in the sequence when a clip is added

My project is renaming my sequences and the clips in those sequences whenever I add a clip. For example, I have a sequence called "dance section 2", which contains 20 some-odd clips with various names. When I add a clip named "drop from above", the name of the sequence is changed to "drop from above", and the name of every other clip in the sequence is also changed to "drop from above" (video, audio, stills, everything). When I add a clip named "spins", all the names are changed to "spins".
The name of the sequence is changed in both the timeline and the browser, but the names of the other clips are changed only in the timeline. In the browser, they keep their old names. The exception to this is the last clip added before the name changer. For example, if I add "drop from above" to the sequence, and then add "spins", the clip named "drop from above" is renamed "spins" in the browser as well as in the timeline, but the other clips are renamed only in the timeline.
The clips in the sequence also keep their original content - so the sequence looks the same as it did before, but all the names of the clips are changed.
This is only happening in one project. All of my other projects are working fine.
I've tried restarting and deleting preferences. I've also looked at the autosave vault for the project. The backup projects saved after a certain time all behave the same way, and the projects before that time all behave normally. I can't imagine what would have caused this, though, since I've been working on this project all day and nothing's happened to my computer or hard drive or anything.
Also, there are no freeze frames at the beginnings of my sequences (I read another thread with a somewhat similar issue and getting rid of freeze frames seemed to help that person).
I'm in FCP 7.0 on a Macbook Pro.
Thanks in advance for your help!

    Welcome to the discussions...
I've had this happen. My guess is that it's related to round-tripping to/from Color, but I can't be sure. IMHO, the sequence is corrupted. I just dealt with it for a while, then rebuilt it by making changes from an earlier version.
Sorry I don't have a better solution, but at least you know you're not alone.

  • Exporting multiple clips from one sequence as separate files.

    Hello fellow editors!
I have about 100+ video files that I want to cut into shorter clips, edit a bit and then export in a Final Cut friendly format (currently they are AVCHD mts files) to send it to my friend, who is putting the whole movie together.
I dont want to use Final Cut for this ( I cannot, I have a windows machine) and I was hoping to work with premier CC and media encoder CC.
There is a way of putting all clips in one sequence and then nesting each one, then you can send them to Encoder CC and it will render them as separate files - thats is just not very productive, nesting clips one by one and it takes forever for Encoder to import sequences.
I was wondering if there is a better workflow? I heard that Final Cut has shortcuts to do this very easily, you just click on all those clips in sequence and "batch export" them, which puts them in some place as separate, already cut files.?
Anything? I love premier, let my feelings be justified!)

    Kevin Monahan ...
Lucid George is right ... select one trimmed clip, File->Export->Media, you can choose whether in-out or entire clip.
Select MORE than one clip, you get a completely different export box ...
These two selections were "exported" from that bin created by dragging the trimmed clips from the timeline to a new bin ... I don't know what else one is supposed to do. You can't even select multiples clips and batch sub-clipping, which would at least cut the steps down.

  • I am having problems copying and pasting clips from one project timeline to another. When I do this they often alter in length. Sometimes by two frames. Other times they lose a chunk off the end of the last clip in the sequence. Has anyone else found

You need to give a lot more information about the media specifications and the project properties you're using in the different projects.

  • How to change clip speed w/o moving all the other clips in a sequence?

when I have many clips in a sequence and try to change the speed of a clip (which changes the length) FCE automatically shifts all the following clips. is there a way to turn this feature off?

Not in FCE. FCP 7 has that feature.
Think about it; when you speed up a clip, the duration is shorter, therefore the clip is shorter. When you slow down a clip, the duration lengthens, therefore the clip is longer. How would FCE know that you don't want the clip to remain the same duration?
You'll need to trim the clip accordingly based on the amount of speed adjustment you want.

  • Editing quick time movie clips with sound

We are editing together some quick time movie clips but we can't get the sound to come up.
Is there something we are doing wrong? Can you split the voice from the visual when you bring these clips into Final Cut?

A QuickTime movie can be made from any number of codecs. Which one are you working with?
If it's an MPEG video, chances are it will need to be demuxed. You can use MPEG Streamclip for this and other conversions.

  • How can I reinsert the deleted audio from clips in my sequence?

How can I reinsert the deleted audio from clips in my sequence?

I can tell you a work around to get you going in the meantime, just may be time consuming if you have a lot of clips in the timeline.
double click a clip missing audio
press the go to in point and copy the timecode to notepad
press the go to end point and copy timecode
right click clip, and reveal in project
double click the original in project
paste in timecode and set in & out points again
    drag audio
As I said not the quickest way, but it works, and won't actually take as long as you'd think, 30 secs or so per clip, i just hope you don't have over 100 clips without audio

  • A Problem with the Quick Find Bar

    Hi,
I’ve added the following line to userChrome.css, and FF opens the Quick Find Bar with the ‘Find Next’ and ‘Find Previous’ buttons.
    .findbar-container > * { display:-moz-box !important; }
With Those buttons, there isn’t enough space in the Quick Bar, and when the description ‘End of Page’ (etc) shows – it is only partially displayed.
How do I change the label text from ‘Quick Search:’ to ‘Find:’?
    And apropos the Find Bar.
I have a toolbar button which toggles the Find Bar on and off.
I’d like that button to be checked when the Find Bar is visible, and unchecked when it is hidden.
I’ve added the following line to an xul file, and it works perfectly.
    <command id="cmd_find" oncommand="gFindBar.onFindCommand();
    setFindCkeckState();"/>
For some reason, FF ignores the "cmd_findClose" id.
    <command id="cmd_findClose" oncommand="gFindBar.close(); setFindCkeckState
    ();"/>
Why? Is it possible to add an Event Listener for the Find bar being opened or closed?
Can I check and uncheck that button in a css file? (That would be better).
    Thanks.

I use this command in a PrefBar button to toggle the Find bar on/off
    <pre><nowiki>if (gFindBar.hidden) gFindBar.onFindCommand(); else gFindBar.close();</nowiki></pre>

  • Resizing clips in a Sequence

This is one of those "this should be easy" I want to resize and move all the clips in a Sequence. And I would rather not do them each.
    Thanks

Thanks. I finally figured out. Option>V not Command
