Quick iPad Photo Library Cleanup?

Our 32GB iPad Mini running iOS7 is nearly full. We have 18GB of photos on the mini. So...
I’d like to quickly delete all the photos that we have NOT included in a “user” album (e.g. albums other than Camera Roll, Videos, Imported Photos & Videos, Last Import and All Imparted). Is this possible? If so can it be done by the either the Photos or iPhoto apps.
I understand that the albums are actually pointers to the photos in the Photo Library. I’m just hoping that Photos or iPhoto can use the album pointers to determine which photos NOT to delete.
If this isn't possible, is there an easy way to export and then re-import the photos in an album AND maintain the same sort order?

Here’s what I did to cleanup the 18GB of photos on our iPad mini….
* We had already collected the 5GB of photos that we wanted to keep on the iPad into albums using the Photos app.
* Wirelessly transferred each album to a separate folder on a Mac using PhotoSync.
* Deleted ALL 18GB of the photos off of the iPad using Image Capture on a Mac.  Note: this does not delete the album structure. It just empties the albums.
* Wirelessly transferred the keepers back into the appropriate albums using PhotoSync.
* Reorganized the albums where necessary. Note: Some of the albums actually retained the photo organization
This freed up roughly 13GB of space on the iPad.
Cleaning up 15GB of photos on our iPad taught me that iPads are NOT a very good place to import and organize photos. In fact, the Apple supplied photo apps on Pads are pretty lame organization tools. iPhoto doesn’t even honor the organization of an album created in the Photos app. Try this. Create a new album using the Photos app and then rearrange some of the photos. Now open iPhoto for the iPad and take a look a that same album — it is still in chronological order! So if you want to make a slide show of the photos in that album using iPhoto, you’ll need to organize it all over again
As a result….We don’t import photos from a camera to the iPad anymore. Too much brain damage.

No - not at the present time anyway.

  • How do I delete "Events from my Mac" from my iPad photo library?

I usually sync images from Aperture via iTunes. And though I've unchecked all the boxes so that no photos were to be synced, the pad still has a ton of photos that show up in the Events or Moments.
I've now turned off Photo syncing in iTunes, which should have deleted all the photos, but the pad still has this huge album of images titled, "Events from my Mac". How do I get rid of these images? They're taking up piles of space. I can't trash them as no trash icon shows up. ?
    Help!

    More info:
So under the iPad preferences in General/ Usage:
    Camera roll = 69.0 MB
    Photo Library  = 7.96 GB ? !!!!
Photo Stream = 345 MB ? PhotoStream is turned off! ?
    I just don't understand.
iCloud is turned off on the Mac. It's on on the pad but Streaming is turned off, both personal and sharing.
In iTunes there are no pictures from Aperture to import or sync.
    So what gives?

  • IPad photo library deleted photos

i just set up a new iPad Air. It synced my 3000+photos from my iPhone ok. Then I turned on photo library and ALL my photos disappeared off the ipad. How do I get them back?

    Amy,
if you get yourself iPhoto for your iPad (see the help: http://help.apple.com/iphoto/iphone/1.0/?handbuch#blnkbc26e276), you can easily save albums and events to the Camera Roll (http://help.apple.com/iphoto/iphone/1.0/?handbuch#blnkee26bc1f) and you can share all photos to iTunes, not only the ones on the camera roll, see:
    Share Photos With your computer
iPhoto for iPad is not free, but quite useful to organize and share your photos.

  • IPad Photo Library crash at startup

    Hey
I just got my new iPad and it is doing great i only have 1 and a half problem.
First problem is that after i transferred my holiday photos to my iPad, the photo app crash at startup. I had about 20 photos on it (downloaded from safari) and after i transferred about 300 over it crashes. I have tried to restore it, but it didn't work.
The other problem is that sometimes when i am writing in landscapemode the "E" or "O" key (depends on what side the home button is) writes 2 letters instead of 1, it seems that sometimes the touch wont recognize my finger (i can see the same when using a drawing app, sometimes it is like there is a wall of "dead touch" and sometimes there isn't).
    Hopefully someone can help me
Im living a far away from an apple store so cant just go there and get help

I currently have over a thousand photos on my iPad, most are synced by iphoto from my laptop. You may have a corrupted photo library file which is causing the crash. Have you tried importing them onto your computer then deleting them from the iPad and starting again?

  • IPad Photo library pics not on MAC

At my wits end with this!  Photo library using 1.6GB of info on my Ipad.  Trying to delete pics from IPad but when I try to sync with ITunes to delete them - the pics don't show up as being on my IPad or in ITunes.  These pictures were all originally imported to my IPad from a camera.  They are safely tucked away on my computer in a separate folder in MY PICTURES so I no longer need them on my Ipad.  How do I get the darn things off my IPad to free up much needed space?  Thanks.

Well like I said, the photos will not show up in iTunes because that's not how it works, but are the photos actually still on the iPad?
Did you try using the second method that I described? Open the album and tap on the edit button, select the photos that you want to delete and then tap the red delete button?
Have you considered importing the photos again and when given the option to delete the photos from the iPad, choose that option and delete them? I'm not sure how it works on a PC, but when you import photos on a Mac, you have the option to delete them from the device after importing them. You can always delete that new picture folder on the PC after you import them again.

Do these albums on the iPad have the cloud icon next to them? If they do, they are albums that you have previously purchased from iTunes. You can remove them from the Music app by going to Settings>iTunes &App Store>Show All>Music>Off.

  • TS3992 Turn off photo library backup in iCloud

I used to be able to turn off backing up my iPad photo library to iCloud in iOS 7. It's now missing in iOS 8. The only option now is to turn my camera roll on and off. My iPads backup size had gone from 200 MB to 6 GB. Has anyone else noticed this?
    Thanks!

I checked the FAQ and it doesn't answer my question. Before I turn on the iPhoto library beta I had 40gb about 30gb of that are photos and videos and 10gb were iphone data backup. I Have the 200gb plan, before and during iphone library ON my storage says 160gb available. Now that it's off my iCloud storage says 190gb available. it's been off for the past 5 days and it still shows 190gb available. My iPhone is backed up daily so it doesn't seem like its backing up my photos at all.

  • I have images on my MacBook that I want to upload into my iPad Photos. How do I do this?

Is there a way to import images into the Photos library on my iPad2 ? It looks like it only exports to email, but I don't see an import option. I have some apps on my iPad2 (like Keynote for iPad) that only allow importing images from the iPad Photo library. In Keynote for iPad, I can't import from other tools from the cloud like iDisk or DropBox. So I really need to get images into the iPad Photos library.

  • HT204264 iDevice Sync Query - IOS Photos & iCloud Photo Library over filling ipad iphone storage - what happens next?

Device Sync Query - IOS Photos & iCloud Photo Library fills ipad iphone storage - what happens next?
Quick question, when you select IOS Photo / IiCloud storage (photos are optimised etc) what happens when ipad / iphone storage is full and you now need to add new apps, photos etc?  In my case I have  3 * 64gb ipads & 2 * 128 gb iphone but these are all filling up with photos since enabling IOS Photo &  iCloud Photo Library (as all of my photos on each device are now copbined on every device as well as the cloud).  This has become a problem as when I try to sync my idevice I get the device full warning (and I am assuming I now need to delete apps / videos if I want to sync or make more space for new photos etc). As far as I can tell once you enable IOS Photos and iCloud all photos will upload at original resolution and download at idevice resolution and there is no way to select / control the photos you want to keep on phone  (eg if you delete photo on phone it will now delete the original on cloud).
    Couple of questions / Suggestions:
    - Will IOS Photos on IOS device  automatically lower resolution of pics or use thumbnails for old photos that are already in icloud to ensure that there is space on device for new photos,  apps videos music etc. Eg will old photos that have already been uploaded in icloud be replaced by new apps videos music etc (not sure that the IOS Sync or iCloud currently does this)
    - Is there away to limit control or limit the number of IOS photos that sync to each idevice (eg by starring photos)? I had a look and can not see away to select photos you want to keep or remove (without deleting them on cloud).  As per above I am hoping that the IOS sync and icloud systems are smart enough to replace Photos that have already upgraded to cloud with a lower quality / thumbnail to make more more room for new photos and apps (but not clear if this occurs)
    - If this is a problem now what happens once the new PHOTOS launches for OS Desktop eg will it add in all our photos from iphoto to the icloud then to the idevice as part of the OS PHOTOS UPGRADE. I have 15-30 gb of photos in IPHOTO that are now backing up to icloud, there needs to be away to only select starred photos or albums or every photo try to download to my iphone (which will kill my storage). There also needs to be away to keep photos on idevice (for those times when you do not have internet and can not download from iCloud to iDevice
Apologies if I have missed something obvious and welcome any thoughts & answers.
If there is no solution then Apple needs to look at this and highlight it as a risk to customers who switch as this is being sold as a way to minimise your device storage but can lead to to customers using up more  storage for photos on ipad iphone as a result of switch to IOS PHOTOS &
    iCloud Photo Library

Things are not as dire as they might seem at first glance. My 66GB iPhoto Library became a 40GB iCloud Photo Library (~11K photos, ~300 videos) and only uses 2.2GB on my iPad and 2.4GB on my iPhone. Scaling that experience, a 64GB/128GB iOS device should be able to easily handle a 300GB iPhoto library. My iPad and iPhone are 32GB devices and I expect them to be livable through at least 30-40K of photos.
16GB devices have always been problematic for space even before iCloud Photo Library so I'd expect anybody with a 16GB device and more than a few thousand photos is not going to be able to use iCloud Photo Library with it. They will have to use iCloud Photo Streaming to get photos to iCloud Photo Library and iCloud Photo Sharing or iTunes syncing to get a subset of photos back to the device. Not a great solution but workable. However, it wrecks one of the best features for me which is using my iPad to edit the photos I take on my iPhone.
The part that worries me is the automatic space management routine. The problem it creates is that I might want to add a movie, but there won't be enough space, and my only option will be to reset iCloud Photo Library on the device to get back to all thumbnails on it to see if that gets me the space I need. I've already had to do it a couple of times with iTunes Match and it's not fun. It all depends on how aggressive Photo Library will be in trimming off full-size photos/videos and Apple appears to be leaving it a black box at this point. It would at least be nice to know an estimate of the minimum size so I know how much space I can recapture.

  • How do I delete photo library from my iPad?

how do i delete the photo library from my ipad?

Only photos taken with the iPad, copied onto it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites etc can be deleted directly on the iPad - either via the trashcan icon in the top right corner if viewing the photo in full screen or via the Edit button in thumbnail view. If you want to select and delete a lot of photos then in thumbnail view tap the Edit button and then try touching the first photo with two fingers and then slide the two fingers (not too quickly) across the photos that you want to remove and they should get ticked (it might take a few attempts)
Photos that were synced from your computer are deleted by moving/removing/de-selecting them from where they were synced from on your computer and then re-syncing - if you want to delete all synced photos then try selecting and syncing an empty folder.

  • ICloud Photo Library: How do I transfer photos and videos only from my iPhone to my iPad but not from my iPad to my iPhone?

I had iCloud photo libraey turned on on both my iPad and iPhone. As said by the feature, photos and videos were being transferred automatically from each device to each other. I have a 64GB iPad Air 2 and my iPhone 5 only has 16GB of storage so I am lacking much more space on my iPhone than my iPad. I was wondering if there was a way to transfer photos only from my iPhone to my iPad but not from my iPad to my iPhone. Would turning off iCloud Photo library on my iPad do the trick? Thanks hope someone can help me out.

iCloud Photo Library keeps all of your photos in the Cloud which you then can selectively download. So, unless you download the iPad photos, they are not going to be taking up any room on your iPhone:
How does iCloud Photo Library save space on my device?
If you turn on Optimize [device] Storage, iCloud Photo Library will automatically manage the size of your library on your iOS device, so you can make the most of your device's storage and access more photos than ever. iCloud Photo Library stores the original, high-resolution photos and videos in iCloud and can keep lightweight, device-optimized versions on each of your devices. As long as you have enough storage, recent photos and videos that you access the most will stay on your device at full resolution.
You can turn on Optimize [device] Storage from Settings > iCloud > Photos or Settings > Photos & Camera > iCloud Photo Library on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. You need an Internet connection to access an original photo or video that’s stored only in iCloud.

  • How to manage my photo library on iPad

Hi, I've been traveling and now i have a few GB's of photos to select. It would be easier for me to import and select these photos on my iPad
and then an then export them to my library. My photo library its stored on a PC.
I've been testing the best way to it but i'm in a dead end. Already tried with Google drive but i'm not able to work offline.
    Do you have any sugestion
    Thanks in advance!

Thanks for your reply Japib. This is exactly what i've been triying to do last days . But imagine, if I sync all these photos to iPad i will not be able to delete those from the default album. In order to be able to delete them on iPad e need to copy them to a new album. Then when I sync againg my expectation is that this new album gets sync to iTunes... but it's not

  • Is there a way to really empty the Photo Library on an iPad?

I wanted to delete a couple hundred photos in the Photo Library on my iPad 3.
In the Photos app on the iPad, I used the "tap-to-select" method and trashed some of the photos, but this was way too slow, so I connected the iPad to my iMac via USB cable, and from within iTunes synced the iPad Photos to an empty folder. This cleared out the Camera Roll. (The "Photo Database" it created in the empty folder contains 892 bytes). The app window now says "No Photos or Videos."
In Settings/General/Usage/Photos & Camera/, the three menu items now show:
    Camera Roll - 0 bytes
    Photo Library - 642 MB
    Photo Stream - 0 bytes
There, doing a "swipe-to-the-left" on the Photo Library bar brings up a red DELETE button. Hitting the button has no effect. It just takes me back to the previous menu (Photos & Camera) which also still shows 642 MB.
I have opened Preview.app on the iMac and looked in the iPad. There is nothing to delete.
Also, I opened Image Capture.app and had a look in the iPad. There is nothing to delete.
The Photos & Camera menu still indicates 642 MB are used.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

sberman: My iMac is running iTunes 11.0.2 already. As well, the Photos tab in the iTunes window shows that "Sync Photos from" is un-checked. And in the box to the right of it is the greyed-out empty folder that I previously synced to in order to remove photos from the Camera Roll.
Ralph9430: I did a reset (Home + Sleep) earlier when I was trying everything I could think of. I have also re-synced a couple of times. No luck.
Thanks anyway. I was hoping someone out there would tell me they've experienced the same problems (non-functioning DELETE button, and persistent data in Photo Library), even if they haven't found a solution. Then I could assume it's a iOS 6 bug. All I can think of to do next is a full iPad restore.
