"Quick look" possible for music files in 10.4?

Hi
My wife and I have an editing studio at home, with a sound library (music files of various formats) on a drive attached to a G4 server running 10.4. Our edit machines are also running 10.4 (I have one laptop running 10.5). While we can browse and search the library in the Finder just fine, previewing each track before deciding to use it is a bit of a pain. Since there's no "quick look" keyboard shortcut in Tiger, the only way is to either open the "i" tab under the file we're interested in, then using the Preview slider to play; opening a permanent inspector window with alt-cmd-i and mousing over to that to Preview, or double-clicking the file to pull it into iTunes to play it.
I could set up iTunes on the server and share over the network, but that would only allow previewing, not copying. Is there a way I can preview music files, either in the Finder or a Finder replacement (Path Finder? Better Finder? etc) with slightly more ease?
Thanks!
Matt

  • How do I get Quick Look to show .stl file 3d models?

    Hey folks
Previous OS using quick look showed a picture of the 3d file (.stl format) used in 3d printing
    Upgraded to mavericks....no preview.
Anyone know how I can get Quick Look to show a preview picture of the 3d model? Not sure how it worked in the first place.
    many thanks!
    A

    Hi,
    I'm working on it.
I just released a new version of Pleasant3D (v2.3.1) which integrates a lot of new functionality (e.g. slic3r support and more).
Unfortunately this update still doesn't fix the Quicklook problem on Mac OS X 10.9. Although I found the problem, I still don't have a solution for this.
However, I implemented much better error checking in the Quicklook plugins and an automatic fallback to display the standard document icon if the plugin fails. That way at least the Quicklook deamon (quicklookd) doesn't crash anymore in case the preview generation fails.
I try to find a fix for the Quicklook problem as soon as possible (if any Mac OpenGL offscreen experts are around, I could really need some help with this...)
    Cheers,

  • Change working directory for music files

My C drive is full and I need to move my iTune music files to another drive. How do I redirect iTunes to a new location ?
    Thanks

Thanks. I followed your instructions and now all new imported songs are going into the new drive. Can I move my original songs to the new drive ? or the application will try to look for them in the original drive and "fail" ? regards. BR

  • Using external hard drive for music files NOT in iTunes music folder

Hi there. Due to lacking disk space on my computer I have all my music files (that I had before using iTunes) on an external HD. I can easily import these drives to iTunes (v.8) without copying them to the iTunes music folder. But when I want to synchronize my iPod the next time, iTunes cannot find the files on my external HD and I have to import them all again, delete all the duplicates and - worst of all - do all the playlist sorting again! Is there a solution to this without putting all my music into the iTunes music folder (I would like to keep it separated)? Thanks in advance!

I use an external firewire drive to store my iTunes library on. One thing to be aware of...
You need to go into your iTunes preferences, then to "Advanced", then select the location where you want to store your iTunes Music folder. In my case it is in a folder titled "Music" on my external firewire drive. The iTunes "Library" file is stored on your internal hard drive.
The thing that can cause you problems it that....if you forget to turn on the external drive before you boot up your Mac, the iTunes library file will look for your music folder and won't be able to find it. So a new iTunes Music folder will be created on your internal hard drive, with nothing in it. You'll see all of your songs listed in your iTunes program...but if you try to double click on any of the songs to play them, you'll get an exclamation mark saying "cannot find file".
If this happens, you need to delete the new iTunes Music folder on your internal drive (but not the iTunes Library file!), then quit iTunes, turn on the external drive, then relaunch iTunes....and it will find the original music folder.
It's a hassle that I have had to go though many times, I keep forgetting to turn on that drive before launching iTunes.
Oh, one other thing....about the way you worded your post. You aren't running short on "memory", you are running short on "storage"....they are two different things. Hard drives are storage, RAM chips are "memory" that run your programs.

  • Look up for wsdl file

    Hi All,
How to look up for a wsdl file for a web service deployed or published fromXI.
I know that there is an option for saving wsdl file while defining a web service in Integration Directory. but what if somone has lost it. Is there any other way to look up for the wsdl file?
    Piyush

    Hi Bhavesh,
If I publish wsdl in UDDI, will it automatically take changes or I have to redefine it?
e.g I change the parameters of one method from two to three. So will it be automatically reflected or I've to again redefine a web service?
Second is that how to stop or undeploy a web service. where to find that option ?

  • Possible corrupt music file on back up disc - can't restore iTunes library!

Sold old laptop last week in prep for getting new PC, backed up iTunes library onto DVD disc (whole library went on 4.7GB disc with no problems) - got new PC yesterday, downloaded iTunes 9, inserted back up disc, tried to restore but keeps getting stuck on one song and going no further. Can anyone help with any other suggestions because I'm going nuts! Can't update my iPhone as there's nothing in iTunes to update it with!

Yes, the relative location is the same, the user account has the same short and long lame as before.
I did try to use the preferences to point to the backed up itunes folder. Once when it was on the eHD and once when I put it in the music folder. Unfortunatley no luck.
I will try your idea about using "Consolidate Library"
One other interesting thing I tried a few days ago was to follow the procedure outlined in the apple support section about restoring the library. It has you move the libray xml file to the desk top, trashing one of the other files (I forgot which) and then choosing the xml file placed on the desk top upon starting itunes. I thought it was kind of odd to select the very xml file I was having trouble with so I chose the backed up xml file. It put all of the playlist folders back in duplicate, but the library was still empty (probably becuase the xml file is just a reference file and I hadn't loaded any actual music files) If the consolidate doesn't work, mabye I'll try that again, but also put the folder with the actual files on the computer as well
I'll let you know how "Consolidate" works, thanks for your suggestions!

  • How to configure for music file loading

I don't know if you can help with this one.
If so, great. If not, I'm not insulted.
I have a pair of Oakley Thumps, which are sunglasses with a built in MP3 player.
I used to have little if any problem loading music on to them from my old windows based Dell computer, by way of the Media Player.
We just got our mac last Sunday (G5 - Tiger version of OS-X), and today was the first day that I hooked up my Thumps. The mac recognized them as Thump 128 (for the memory size) and there is an icon on my desktop. However, the files that were stored were changed to a document file, and now won't play. I tried loading iTunes songs, but they won't play, since they are MP4 (Thumps only play/recognize MP3, WMA and WAV files).
Do you have any tips for how I can go about configuring iTunes, or any other program on my wonderful new mac, to allow me to load songs onto my Thumps?

You will not be able to put (or play)purchased music files onto the device but you should be able to "drag" any .mp3 file onto it.
If you mount the device and double click to open it there may be a folder structure that needs to be followed.
The current files may be in Media Player format (.wma) and can be opened with the WMP for Mac.

  • PC under XP Home- 2 session- 1 folder for music file

    Hello
I have a PC under XP home.
Two users - One folder with music files. The folder "Itunes music" is on disk D and not under "documents ans settings" because it is too big for disk C.
Under each session my wife and me we have our database of iTunes.
It goes not very good. Sometimes we lose a lot of music and must import the folder one more time.
I don't understand why. In fact there is 20% of music who give problems.
    Somebody have an explanation?
    Best regards
    PC Windows XP

...bit of an update since the last post i made:
I have now managed to update my iTunes to the latest version and have also installed the Nano onto my PC. I've even managed to trasnfer some music files onto the Nano also...
However, my problem lies with the iTunes library set up.
The 4thG 40g iPod i mentioned is used by a 35 year old hip hop fan who doesn't need to worry about Parental Guidance and until now has updated his iPod with ALL the songs that are in the library. Now i have a 11 year old daughter who likes typical 11 year stuff but i don't want to trawl thro 40g worth of music to find the stuff she can listen to .. whilst the 35 year old hip hop fan doesn't want to listen to tracks on random only to find he's got girls alound on his iPod!!
Is there anyway i can make seperate libraries for the 2 different iPod models? I have tried going into the iPod options when each of the iPods have been connected and have changed the path to the library but this hasn't helped so far...
again, any help would be truly appreciated...thank you

  • How to stream surround 5.1 over AirPlay for *music* files?

I am able to stream movies from iTunes to AppleTV and maintain surround 5.1 sound, just like movies streamed from Netflix or Apple. [requires a secondary AC3 Passthru audio stream]. However, despite multiple sound formats that can encode 5.1 sound, including MP3, WAV, AIFF and ALAC (all of which are supported by iTunes), I cannot get *music* to stream over AirPlay from iTunes or any other streaming app like VLC.
Does anyone know a way to stream *audio* files to AppleTV and play back with surround sound? I have several DVD-A surround discs remastered to 5.1, but I don't have a DVD player for them, and prefer to keep all of my music in digital form anyway.

  • Font Used For Quick Look Plain Text Files?

    Hi,
Does anyone know what font Leopard uses when you Quick Look a plain text file? It's one that isn't anti-aliased. I can't seem to find it anywhere in my Font Book.

You could override that with code in userContent.css, either for all websites or for specific websites.

  • No .dng Preview in Finder or Quick Look; File Dimensions 0x0.

Can see Canon .CR2 raw file preview in finder and quick look. Can see file dimensions.
Cannot see same files converted in Lightroom to DNGs. File dimensions listed as 0x0.
CAN see older DNG files processed exactly the same way. All files stored in an external WD 2TB drive. Just for fun dragged an old DNG file to that drive and the preview works fine.
    OSX 10.9
    Latest Adobe Camera Raw
    Latest Adobe Lightroom
Rebooted, emptied caches, reindexed Spotlight, and on and on and on.
Apple bug? Adobe bug? Or another situation where they are blaming each other and the professionals relying on their products enjoy yet more frustration. Don't get me started on the color management fiasco of not so long ago...
    Thanks!
    Jon

Here is the situation: I use Spotlight to search, and
find a bunch of things I want to look at, including
some PDF files, which I click to open in Preview.
Now, I want to send some of these documents, or at
least one of them, as an email attachment using
    Mail.app. What to do?
One way to do this is to use the "Mail PDF" item in the PDF Services group of items under the PDF "menu" in the Print Dialog. For multiple documents, this would mean bringing up the dialog ffor each document, so maybe that is not practical.
You could also create a workflow item using Automator. I am not that familiar with Automator, and you'll have much better luck in the Automator forum, but a quick glance shows an "Add Attachment to Front Message" action as part of Mail.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can I create a server with Time Capsule, where it would be possible for me to access files from any computer in my house?

I have a Time Capsule 1T, so not sure what gen that would be. But I am in college and have about 5 apple devices that my family uses in our house and it would be nice if we could share files through a network. Can I even be helped?

DropBox is another possibility for sharing files and it is free for the first 2GB of storage.

  • Search computer files for music with itune?

I understand during the initial launch of the itunes application you have the option to search your computer for valid music files to be put in your itunes library, but how do I do this after I have been using itunes for a while?
WMP has a simple feature for this but itunes does not?
This is where I get confused, can anyone tell me of a way to scan my computer for music files that can be put in my library so I dont have to swim through all my folders?

You simply do by adding folders to itunes music libray
Go to file add folders one artist at a time or import your all folders by simply selecting my music click ok & it will add all your music folders to your itunes library

  • Undelete music files from external drive?

    Quick version:
External drive got reformatted, but music files maybe still there. Know a good, and reasonably priced, software with best chance for recovery? Cannot affort to send drive to pros to recover. Thx!
    Longer version:
I have an external/USB hard drive which had a lot of music for my iTunes library. Unfortunately a computer guru, working on my system, reformatted that drive. Using a free trial of some undelete software it appears the song files may still be there. But reviews of most software online are very mixed as to recovering music, versus other, files. Sounds like many of them cannot recover music files and may even corrupt them more in the process.
Does anyone know from experience a good and reasonably priced, or free wouldn't be bad, software I could use to recover these music files? I understand the files may be trashed, but I'm looking for my best shot at recovering them and cannot afford to buy several software apps trying to undelete these, or to send the drive off to a drive recovery service. Thanks in advance!!

thx for your speedy reply. Let me ask, was the recovery for general files or for music files? What I read was that many of the recovery programs do good jobs on basic files, like Word and Excel, but that music files are much harder to recover and software might be very poor at recovering them.
