Quick Look sometimes doesn't switch to next image.

Hello, I have 10.6.4 snow leopard.
I have some folders with hundreds of images and one with a few thousand.
When I show a client a slideshow of the images in a folder it's fine. However, if I switch to the Quick Look (the "eye" icon) and use my arrow keys to manually click through images sometimes the larger image preview (QL) doesn't update to the next image.
I've had this problem for some time (even OS X Leopard) but I was able to just click backward one image, then forward... and it'd update. Now, however, I can get several images behind in that preview even if I leave it for several minutes to see if it's just lagging.
In reading other threads about QL I should note that although I've had this problem for a while it's been worse since: I restored my Macbook Pro from Time Machine after my logic board was replaced and since I've upgraded to Snow Leopard. The TM Restore was several months ago, the SL Upgrade was beginning of this month. The images in the folders are all JPG, less than screen resolution/size (eg. less than 1280x1024 or so). These same folders cycle through images just fine in the random screensaver mode, for what it's worth but that's not ideal for client presentation.
Thanks for your time.

I remembered that there had been a slight bug in the Leopard Quicklook, so that if you went to full-screen QL, then used Command-Tab to switch to another program, then Command-Tab back to Finder, you would be back in QL Full Screen, but you could now navigate with the arrow keys. At first I thought this had been fixed, and started mucking about with other key combos and accidently got it going again. Took awhile to figure out exactly what I had done, but it works like this:
1. Select your file, hit spacebar and click the full screen arrows
2. Command-tab to some other program
3. Mouse click the toolbar or sidebar of the open folder with your file in it
4. You can now navigate with the arrow keys
Although I don't really see how this is better or easier than opening the folder, hitting Command-A, then bringing up QL....

  • Quick Look icon doesn't appear in Finder window?

I've just installed Leopard, and have just read in the manual about Quick Look. Quick Look shows up in the drop-down File menu if I highlight a file or document, but it doesn't show up where it's supposed to in the Finder window, as an eyeball icon. I'm sure there's some obvious fix: can anyone explain what I have to do to get the icon to show up in Finder?
    Much obliged.
    jk

the easiest way to quicklook a file is select the file and hit the space bar. but if you want to call it from the toolbar the icon should be tere too. if it isn't, go to view menu->customize toolbar and drag the "eye" icon to the toolbar.

  • Quick Look full screen mode won't move to next image?

When I highlight the first image in a folder full of multiple images and then press "Space" quick look opens and shows me that first image. I can then move on to the next image by simply pressing the down arrow.
But if I enter quick look's full screen mode it won't move to the next image unless I first select all the images in the folder before entering full screen mode?
Why? Why would functionality SO simple (move to the next image) not be included in the full screen mode of quick look? It renders the full screen mode essentially pointless, who wants to look at ONE image in full screen? Of course everyone wants to browse the images, but why should I have to select all of them, why not just let me move from one to the next... exactly as I can when NOT in full screen mode?
    C'mon apple...

  • What is the use of plus (+) icon on Quick Look?

When select a file in finder and press <spacebar> for Quick Look, I see a new icon next to the (x) close icon.  What is the purpose of that?  I clicked on it and nothing happened.

It does exactly the same thing as all the other plus buttons in OS X, it makes the window big enough to see all of the content. To illustrate, drag the corner of the quicklook window to make the window too small for the content, then click the plus button to put it right.

  • Can't open PDF, but Quick Look displays it...

I tried scanning a document using Image Capture. I scanned the file to my desktop automatically and saved it as a PDF. But when I try to open it, I get an error message saying it can't be opened, and it may be damaged, etc.
However, when using the Finder, I can see it using Quick Look, and I can tell that the image scanned properly. I tried scanning it twice using different settings, and the same thing is happening with both files. Any ideas on what may be happening, or better yet, how to fix it so I can open the file?
    Thanks,

Thanks. I had already done that, and Preview.app is already my default for PDF's. I've actually tried to open it with other applications, but nothing will open it.
    Any other ideas?

Go back to the App Store app and find the app you're having problems with. Then look in the description for the contact info for the developer. You might also find an email link within the settings of the app. Contact the developer to find out if they are working on this issue.

While in Finder, select the file (click on its icon once) then press the Spacebar.

  • Quick Look doesn't work properly

I can get folders to show in Quick Look by highlighting them and pressing the space bar or eye icon but then...a new window with a large icon of the folder appears and the only controls at the bottom are to open in full screen or close the window.
Have looked in Preferences and trashed the Quick Look daemon file but no change.
I've not tried to use Quick Look before (been running Leopard for a couple of months now) and am trying it now as a result of reading an item about it in the Mac Tips column so I don't know if it's a new problem or if it has always been dysfunctional.
Any suggestions for solving this would be gratefully received as, on reading what it can do, it looks like a very useful tool.
    Thanks
    Gordon

Quick Look doesn't work that way, unfortunately, there is a third party solution available that produces the behaviour you want. The basic functionality of Quick Look is to enable fast access to files and not folders...

  • Mail 3.6 (on MacOS 10.5.7) doesn't display 'Save' and 'Quick Look' buttons

I have recently updated to MacOS 10.5.7 and discovered a strange glitch in viewing certain emails with attachments. For a small minority of emails with attachments, the 'paperclip' icon appears in the mail list, indicating the presence of an attachment, but neither the icon for the attachment nor the 'save' and 'quick look' buttons appear. Options to save the attachment or quick look the attachment under the File menu do work.
Clearly the attachment is there but Apple Mail 3.6 doesn't know how to indicate it. This inconsistency in the interface's feedback about attachments has been very irritating.
Remedies I have attempted thus far:
    • Rebuilding the mail box (no change)
    • Disabling all Mail extensions (bundles)
    • Examining the raw mail code (nothing obvious wrong, but I am not an expert).
The problem is currently present for some Microsoft Word file attachments, but I have no clue if it is limited to just those attachments.
I will note the latest email with this failure to display attachments was sent by a colleague using Apple Mail on an iPod Touch, so I can't believe it is a mangled attachment. It is not limited to a single sender, so again, no reason to believe mangled attachments.
I would really appreciate any suggestions for how to fix this...

I disabled the mail extensions by removing them from the ~/Library/Mail/Bundles/ directory. I didn't think the mail extensions could get patched into Mail.app by any other means, but if you care to clarify I would appreciate it.

  • Gnome3.6 shortcuts for "switch to next source" doesn't work after lock

If you have two or more input sources, once you have locked the screen, when typing password for re-login, the "switch to next source" shortcuts ("Ctrl+Space" for me) doesn't work.
I don't know whether it is a feature, or a bug? In fact I wonder if ALL THE SHORTCUTS DO NOT WORK AFTER LOCK.
Have anyone come up with this problem? If it is a bug, have it been reported to GNOME Bugzilla?

    Hello there,
How are you reviewing the course? What is the action associated with 'Review Course' button? Also, can please share the screenshot of Preferences>Quiz>Settings?

  • Why the shortcut of switch to next/previous tab(ctr+tab) doesn't work?(firefox 6)

I recently update firefox 6.0 version, but I can't use the shortcut(ctr+tab) to switch to next/previous tab. I download an extension called Customizable Shortcuts, also I can't find the item of witch to next/previous tab in it.
How can I fix this problem? It is really necessary for me.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • Document size in quick look

    Hi Community,
I installed a new Mac running Snow Leopard and now I have a small document size in quick look. I can change the size by drag and drop the lower right corner but a) the next document is in the same small size and b) when I reopen a document in quick look I adjusted the size before, it will be displayed also in the small size again. In other words the quick look doesn't remember the custom size setting.
Is there anywhere in the system a way to change the settings of quick look?
    Thx & Bye Tom

Yes, I have the same issue, text is tiny on my large screen when previewing word or other text documents. The implementation of Quicklook for text could be improved. For images it obviously works great but for text, I would define a "quick look" as a quick scan of the contents, not just the layout, because its text. When you are editing HTML or looking at CVs a lot, you end up needing to read a little to see what the item actually is, as a lot of layouts are the same for these type of documents.

  • Viewing pdfs with Quick Look is too small in Lion?

I tried to search for this everywhere and I didn't see much input.
I'm a grad student in the biomedical sciences. I need to keep a large library of pdfs for my work and one of the best things about switching to a mac was being able to use quick look to quickly browse pdfs instead of having to open tons of files just to find what I need. Often I'll be looking for specific information and in Snow Leopard I could read an entire pdf article using quicklook because the pdf filled the screen.
In Lion quick look doesn't make the pdfs large enough to actually read, except for the title of articles.
In Lion I can't zoom in pdfs and I can't seem to get the pdfs very big with quicklook no matter if I am in full screen mode or resize the window etc. I don't actually even understand why full screen is an option for previewing pdfs in Lion because it only makes them fractionally larger than they are in the regular viewing window...(on a 13inch MBP anyway)
    Am I missing something?
I just upgraded to Lion with the 10.7.3 update btw and I have spent the past several days tweaking Lion to get it back just the way I want it. This feels like the final stumbling block...
I guess I was just wondering
    a) is there anything I can do to remedy the situation besides simply getting used to opening the files in preview (which of course I do eventually anyway)
    b) am I really the only one bothered by this? It seems really subpar compared to how quick look worked in Snow Leopard but after trolling the web for about an hour I've found scarcly any mention of the issue...
Thanks in advance for any input and if by any chance this bothers you as well please send apple feedback (which I just did).

Ok, I will send this comment also to Apple feedback.
I appreciate your efforts to point out possible solutions (which I tried out before posting here).
Despite the fact that they don't work here (font resolution is too poor to be readable when enlarged through the magnifier) I would still consider this issue a downgrade with respect to previous versions of OS X just because it would require more efforts to arrive at the same results compared to simply enlarging the window with one mouse/trackpad move. A lower screen resolution can definitely not be the preferred solution. I'm far from being blind and I enjoy my current screen resolution.
Dragging things into the preview app is not favorable either: I want to have a quicklook and don't want to bother actually opening lots of files at a time.

  • Quick Look in Mountain Lion Broken?

    Hi.
I'm running ML on my not terribly old iMac and Quick Look isn't working....when I hit the space bar to view *any* file, I get a window the correct size of the document I'm previewing but it is blank.  Hitting space to close and again to open doesn't help (I've seen that as a persistant problem in some discussions)... if I hit space to open the blank window, then start to resize the window, whatever I'm meant to look at magically appears....with multipage files (like a PDF for example) once I get the image up, I'm unable to view any of the additional pages in the document...there are blank boxes for each page along the edge but they all have the sort of spinning fan in them as if they are trying to load.
I do not have this problem on my 13" MBP also running ML.
    Anyone have any insights here?
Thank you very much in advance...
    sparky

Yes I have the same problem. It doesn't happen all the time, and it doesn't seem to happen in every directory??? But the reason I'm here is I just did a Google search to see if anyone had any good solutions.
I don't recall ever seeing this problem in 10.6 (I pretty much skipped 10.7). The instructions at the CNET link do seem to repair it (I've tried them before), but it comes back after a few days or weeks. I sometimes have to hit the spacebar up to five times before Quick Look happens, until then a blank window comes up.
I agree that "this should be a fairly solid feature by now", not sure why some coder found a need to tweak working code and thereby (intermittently) break functionality.
FWIW I'm using a mid-2007 24" Al iMac, so this problem probably isn't related to a specific computer type. It's probably a Finder issue, not a video driver issue. My computer has ATI video, according to EveryMac the newest iMacs have NVidia.

  • Quick Look Audio Fade-in

    Hello,
i am that complete lagger who used 10.6.8 for few years for working with audio and music production. Somehow i decided to upgrade to new osx for new logic and some user features, but there is one little thing that still keeps me off new os x.
Back in 10.6 when you quick look an audio file it plays just "as is"- without any fade ins and fade outs. If sound starts instantly inside audio file- it will play instantly. This helps me a lot while making music- i just use Finder quickly to find right sound and drag and drop it into Logic. This is my typical workflow- press space and use up and down buttons to find right sample.
In Lion, ML and now in Mavericks that feature was changed. When you quick look audio file it will play it normally the first time, but when you play it second time (you didnt hear if this fiel sound right and you replay it) it cuts the very first part of the sound- it creates very fast fade in which affects the sound. It looses first click (wich may be very important). Sometimes i cant really hear if sound starts instantly or with fade within sample.
This is probably more a feature than bug, but this still doesent helps me at all.
The question is how to disable that quick look audio fade in? I really dont need it and dont want it.
I tried to replace 10.9 quick look audio plugin with same file from 10.6, but that didnt worked.
    Regards,
    Anton Demkin

If this is the case Then there must be some switch somewhere in the bowels of the project data that can be thrown. Once again i am appalled at how little information is available to power users and apple should be ashamed of it self. THese damned programs do not work as advertised when pushed and they display anomalies that keep the forums full but nothing else. I had this problem and had to export the whole movie as is and then reimport it in order to over come the INVERSE DUCKING feature so prominently in fashion these days. I will be trying now to see how this works ... again.
PS none of my issues with inverse ducking matched what you did to solve yours -- My project had been completed and now someone wanted tweaks so when i went in to make the tweaks- that is what i found . Sort of like magical apperance of unnamed temporary files amongst other things.
