Quick look, videos and relaunching Finder

After updating to Snow Leopard, I noticed one item right away: My scroll wheel no longer shuttled through the videos in quick look like it did before. Is there a fix, or reason for this?
Also, and more recently, I find myself having to relaunch the Finder if I use the arrow keys to change video files with the Quick Look window open.
And Finally, believe it or not, Quick Look shows .avi files better and faster than .mov and .mp4 (or other QT files). What's up with that.
Any ideas? Thanks.
iMac, 2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.5Gig Ram. And everyhing is up to date.

Khurt,
Do all your other keyboard shortcuts work? I only ask because there are some settings you can change that effect all keyboard shortcuts. But heck just in case what I would do is open up System Preferences -> Keyboard & Mouse -> goto the Keyboard (tab) first and select Modifier Keys, and click Restore Defaults then goto the Keyboard Shortcuts (tab) Hit Restore Defaults here as well.
Now Try again if that doesn't work I won't you to remove the com.apple.QuickLookDaemon.plist you will find it in Macintosh HD -> Users -> YOUR USER -> Library -> Preferences, If you would prefer you can just move it to your desktop but believe me it is ok to delete it, it will be regenerated on restart, then after you have removed it I want you to not doing anything else but restart your computer.
Test to see if works, and come back with your results.
Hope that helps,
Weston

  • Spotlight attacking and relaunching finder!

Any time I try to run spotlight Using '+Option, cmd, space+' or by typing into the top right corner of the finder window there will be a pause for 5 or so seconds with the spinning beach ball then finder will relaunch. ie. All desktop icons and menu bar disappear and re-appear.
The spotlight menu in the top right of the screen works fine this only happens when it is in its own window.
I have tried re-indexing spotlight, deleting spotlight .plist but none had any affect.
    Any help.

  • Missing Cove Flow & Quick Look from Finder once they went "up in smoke"

I installed Leopard today on my iMac and will messing around managed to loose both my Cover Flow and Quick Look icons in the Finder and can't find where they are on my computer (have looked everywhere including Applications). Anyone know how to retrieve them once they go "Up In Smoke"
    Thanks

  • Quick Look full screen mode won't move to next image?

When I highlight the first image in a folder full of multiple images and then press "Space" quick look opens and shows me that first image. I can then move on to the next image by simply pressing the down arrow.
But if I enter quick look's full screen mode it won't move to the next image unless I first select all the images in the folder before entering full screen mode?
Why? Why would functionality SO simple (move to the next image) not be included in the full screen mode of quick look? It renders the full screen mode essentially pointless, who wants to look at ONE image in full screen? Of course everyone wants to browse the images, but why should I have to select all of them, why not just let me move from one to the next... exactly as I can when NOT in full screen mode?
    C'mon apple...

I remembered that there had been a slight bug in the Leopard Quicklook, so that if you went to full-screen QL, then used Command-Tab to switch to another program, then Command-Tab back to Finder, you would be back in QL Full Screen, but you could now navigate with the arrow keys. At first I thought this had been fixed, and started mucking about with other key combos and accidently got it going again. Took awhile to figure out exactly what I had done, but it works like this:
    1. Select your file, hit spacebar and click the full screen arrows
    2. Command-tab to some other program
    3. Mouse click the toolbar or sidebar of the open folder with your file in it
    4. You can now navigate with the arrow keys
Although I don't really see how this is better or easier than opening the folder, hitting Command-A, then bringing up QL....

  • How to swipe between photos with a quick look in os x mavericks?

Before in Mountain Lion i could swipe between photos with two fingers using quick look. Now in Mavericks this gesture doesn't work. Anyone has this feature works?
And one more, in Snow Leopard i can open photo with pressing the space bar and pinch with two fingers zooming in full screen. This feature (zoom with two fingers) doesn't work in Mountain Lion. Is it possible to back those gestures in Mavericks?

You mentioned you could still find the "Quick View" ("Quick Look"?) option under Customize Toolbar. That would be really handy for grandma, but I can't find that icon among the choices. I'm running 10.9.4. I've included a picture of the icon choices see.
I did find File/Quick Look Attachments…, and Quick Look in the attachments menu that appears just below the header of the message. But both of those techniques require remembering to look inside something. Grandma does much better with icons in the Toolbar for some reason.
    Thanks!

  • Quick Look Problem ?

I was just wondering why when I use QuickLook with 2 monitors, anything I QuickLook, picture/Music/Video etc.. always goes over to my other Screen I have hooked up to my iMac ? I want to quick Look it on the main screen (iMac Screen) not have to turn on the Other monitor every time I want to quick Look something. I think it's rather annoying having to turn that other monitor on all the time to view what I want, or drag it over to my main iMac screen to see. Now if I unplug the Other monitor it's just fine. Only when I have another monitor plugged in it does this.
I looked up and down in the System Prefs to figure this out, and found Nothing. It's either a bad part on apples side, or there is something I"m missing.

I had that same problem and I believe that I just "Quick Looked" a jpeg which opened on my other monitor (the wrong one) and while it was open moved the window to my main monitor. Once I did that I closed the quick look window and then reopened the same file using quick look again and I found it then opened on my main monitor.
If this works then be carful about closing a quick look window. Make sure to close it on the monitor you want quick look to open on.

  • Video and GPS data from iPhone movie?

Hi, I have following problem/ idea for a solution: I lost the canopy of by model airplane during a flight in a wheat field. Now I am looking for a solution to find it: what about a video camera and a GPS device, flying over the field, recording video and GPS data, play back video and (hopefully) find the canopy at frame xyz. Then read out the GPS position at this frame and go back in the field to the GPS coordinates and find what I lost.
    So the questions are:
    1. are the Video recordings stamped (?) with a continuous GPS position
    2. can this data be read out
    3. is there an app that can do this
    4. is this the correct forum for this question?
    Thanks for any ideas
BTW: I already tried to order a new canopy, no luck...

Let me get this straight... You lost the canopy for your model airplane... Now you want to strap your iPhone to another model airplane and fly it all over in the area where you lost the canopy.
Piece of advice: Make sure you set up find my iPhone on it before you send it out on its mission. you may need it, in combination with its ability to emit an alarm when triggered remotely, to find the iPhone after it falls off the search plane.
With luck, the fallen iPhone will land near the canopy you seek.
To try and answer the questions:
    1. I believe the entire recording gets 1 location coded in the metadata. It is not a continuous stream of location data.
    2. Not relevant based on the answer to 1.
    3. I seriously doubt it, but I won't be shocked if someone has come up with something among the half million or so apps out there.
    4. I don't think there is a correct forum for this, but this works as well as any.

  • Quick Look taking FOREVER after upgrading to Lion

Hey everyone.  I have a mid-2008 24" iMac running with 4GB of memory.  I recently upgraded to Lion and almost everything seems to be working great.  One thing that is not working, however is Quick Look which is really not working at all.  Back on Leopard or Snow Leopard, I would open up a folder full of jpgs, hit the Quick Look button and a preview of the picture would pop right up.  I could  then even arrow through the folder with each picture showing right up.
On Lion, this is not the case.  I open a folder or picture files now, hit the Quick Look button and the picture comes up after about 30 seconds.  Now, when I arrow around, the title for the Quick Look window changes but the new pictures never come up.  Is anyone else having this problem?  This is very frustrating and I am not sure why this feature the older OSs worked fine a but not now.  Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

    Hi,
I got the same issue with my 2007 imac with 4gb ram, in the dowload & document folder on the dock it doesn't load the icons anymore, useto work before untill today after i upgraded my ram, dunno if that could be the issue, could it be?
    Thanks..

  • Delete Quick Look  Action

    Quick Look  Action
I was trying to put an image in my main folder called "Scratch" which was open. I put the image on top of the folder but instead of going in, it just stay there below the name of the folder. And I see at the left of the image name  "Quick look  Action Scratch" then the name of the document. I can't move it at all (to put inside or delete)
This drives me crazy. I don't want it there.
I never heard of Quick look before and obviously never used it. Now I think it may or may not be useful to me..we'll see but in the meantime I don't want this image/document sitting there under the folder's name.

  • Can't customize Finder toolbar, and where's Quick Look?

Hi, all. I'm (of course) hoping for some easy answers here. I recently got a refurb iMac 24"--a beautiful thing, like new. (Used Migration Assistant to bring over old iMac docs and settings.) Since using this new iMac and Leopard, I have yet to see the Quick Look "eye" icon anywhere. Highlighting a doc and hitting spacebar brings up Quick Look (yay!), but there's no option for Quick Look in my Finder menu: no "eye" icon. And under Finder's View menu, most of the options are grayed-out: I can't select "as Icons," "as List," "as Columns," "as Cover Flow"; or "Show Path Bar" or "Hide Status Bar"; or "Hide Toolbar" or "Customize Toolbar." What's up with this?
I did an archive and install this morning to see whether it would give me fresh access to Leopard, but no change. (Hoping not to have to erase and install, since I have Time Machine and Time Capsule playing well together and don't want to mess with their relationship...)
    Any insight anyone?
    Thanks in advance!

If you Ctl+CLick on an empty area of a Finder window tool bar, do you get the Customize Toolbar option? Is the Quick Look icon there to add? If you remove and then re-add the grayed-out icons, do they become active?

  • Cover Flow, Quick Look and Finder icons ignore ICC color profiles

... and that really bothers me!
As a photographer, I tend to save photos with different color profiles embedded in them. Sometimes it's Adobe RGB, sometimes sRGB, sometimes Generic RGB (don't ask).
Aside from the apps that HAVE TO regard color profiles (Aperture, Photoshop etc), I was under the impression that color consistency is important throughout OS X. I am satisfied that Safari and Preview fully support color profiles, and that is why I am appalled that Cover Flow and Quick Look (my favorite feature in Leopard) do not! How do I know? It's in the plain eye sight.
    Apple... FIX THIS, PLEASE!

  • Pages/Numbers 4.3 documents won't show Quick Look in Finder anymore?

After being dissatisfied with the features and presentation of Pages and Numbers 5.0, I removed both apps from my Mac Mini—running Mavericks—and went back to using Pages/Numbers 4.3. However, I noticed that Finder no longer provided a Quick Look of either type of document (it just shows the generic Pages/Numbers 4.3 icon instead of content), even though they will open without a problem in the 4.3 apps. A few days later, I decided to downgrade to Mountain Lion—due to Mavericks performance issues—figuring it would fix the Quick Look issue, but it still persists. All other documents—images, video, PDFS, etc. Quick Look just fine.
Any suggestions on how to get back Quick Look for my Pages/Numbers documents?

It sounds like they are not Pages '09 files, they are files you have saved in Pages 5.2.
You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5.2 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.2 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Older versions of Pages 5 can not open files from later versions of Pages 5.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud and opened in a newer version of Pages is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has removed 110 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

  • When using Final Cut Express, the video in the Viewer window looks fine, but when I insert the video into the Canvas Timeline it appears to lose resolution, and look fuzzy and blurry. Are there preferences or settings for the Timeline that cause this?

When using Final Cut Express, the video in the Viewer window looks fine, but when I insert the video into the Canvas Timeline it appears to lose resolution, and look fuzzy and blurry. Are there preferences or settings for the Timeline that cause this?

Thanks David. I had to convert the mts file to Quick Time (using AunSoft Conversion software) before I could import it into Final Cut Express. And I made sure I kept the size of movie (720 X 480 with letterbox) to compliment what I set my Panaconic AVCCAM video recorder at (720/60). Even after I fully render it, it still looks fuzzy in the Canvas window at the right that plays what I have editing down in the Timeline. A friend that edits some using Final Cut Pro helped me to narrow things down to this problem. This is also wierd. If my Viewer window at the left is set to 200% to get the person's head the same size in the Canvas window at the right we needed to put it to 400%. Does this make any sense. We think we need to control the Time line resolution somehow but cannot find any options from my manual, or the help, or in the various drop down menus. Do you have any clue? What is going on?

  • Quick Look icon doesn't appear in Finder window?

I've just installed Leopard, and have just read in the manual about Quick Look. Quick Look shows up in the drop-down File menu if I highlight a file or document, but it doesn't show up where it's supposed to in the Finder window, as an eyeball icon. I'm sure there's some obvious fix: can anyone explain what I have to do to get the icon to show up in Finder?
    Much obliged.
    jk

the easiest way to quicklook a file is select the file and hit the space bar. but if you want to call it from the toolbar the icon should be tere too. if it isn't, go to view menu->customize toolbar and drag the "eye" icon to the toolbar.
