Quick MSI Platinum 975x PSU Question

I have a OCZ GameXstream 600watt PSU and it has two 4-pin CPU cables titled CPU1 and CPU2. I noticed on this motherboard there are 2 four pin CPU inputs and one of them has peg over it that can be removed. Should I remove the 2nd peg and plug in both cables or just use the one with CPU1? Thanks in advance!

Treebeard, you just need to utilize either CPU1 or CPU2. The 4-pin CPU input is sufficient. CPU1 give 4-pin; CPU2 give another 4-pin. Adding them up = 8-pin for Extreme Edition CPUs. Depends on what CPU you have, if you have Pentium D Presler > 3.2Ghz, it's better to use 8-pin. Below that, 4-pin is just fine.

  • Over VID in windows?? MSI Platinum SLI

    Hello,
    Quick question...
Is there anyway I can get this board (MSI platinum SLI) to Over VID more than 9.9%??  I have a San Diego 3700+ and the max I can give it is 1.4v +9.9% which should be 1.53V, but the bios only shows 1.48v....Can this Over VID be done through Windows??  I think I will be an old man by the time MSI ever comes out with a bios with more Over VID options.... :(
I am trying to push my San Diego 3700+ past 3.0Ghz....she's at 2.95 and I know there is more headroom If I can get some more CPU voltage...
    Any suggestions??
    Thanks,
    -M

I have the neo2 and have simular problems with getting a reasonable vcore setting on a venice .
I wish i had an exact vcore to enter in bios .
    bios vid 1.45 + 10%
    gives corecenter 1.62volt , bios didn'r check , cpu-z 1.61volt
    bios vid 1.475 + 8.3%
    gives corecenter 1.58volt , cpu-z 1.60volt ,
    bios vid 1.425 + 8.3% , gives bios 1.54~1.55volt
    bios vid 1.40 + 10%
    gives bios 1.56~1.58volt , corecenter 1.55 ~1.57volt , cpu-z 1.55 ~ 1.56volt
To me it seems venice and san-diego with startup vid over 1.45v goes bonkers .
It could be explained with the new vcore "variable" design with theese cpu's .
Like it accepts 0.05 over the cpu's default startup-vid which for some is 1.35 and others 1.40 .
So it's all to do with msi's % over vid to get it higher either from 1.35 + 0.05 for the 1.35v versions or 1.40 + 0.05 for the 1.40v versions .

  • Platinum 975X and 20-Pin Power plug

Will my Platinum 975x run correctly using an older ATX 20-pin power supply? Please advise. Thank you, Rick

Also, does your power supply have a 4pin ATX connector or 8pin EPS connector (+12V)?  You may be able to supplement power to the 975X by using the 4/8pin JPW connector and the 4pin (molex) JPWR connector to make up for the lost 4 pins on the 20pin ATX.  But I'd really hesitate to go this route, even if you have a very minimal configuration with low power demands.
I'm more inclined to suggest that you just replace your PSU.  Whichever model you have, the 20pin ATX connector marks it fairly outdated.  There are many excellent PSUs available nowadays at very affordable prices.  There's a great thread in the Off-Topic Technical forum started by connlaoi with a list of PSU Recommendations.

  • Quick poll functionality for 10 questions

    Hi SDN Guru's,
I have seen quick poll functionality for one question followed by answers,
but i have a reauirement to have instant survey of 5 or 10 questions and get the poll is this possible with the current quickpoll if not how can we do that.
please provide suggestions , alternatives workarounds
    Thanks in advance,
    Murali

    Hi,
Quick Poll as name suggests is for simple and faster polls. So by default, it is meant to have one question only.
    1) If you want many questions, then you may have to create some JSP application for it and make it an iView.
    2) There is also option for using many campaigns, each campaign for each question. That way all the questions will be visible at the same time. But I'll not suggest it if all questions are based on same topic. In that case, only custom application will be better.

  • Fan noise MSI Platinum SLI

    Hi everyone!
I'm determined to buy a MSI Platinum SLI, but I read the fan noise is too loud. I know basing your purchase in the fan noise is a bit silly, but I want a quiet PC (at least reasonably quiet), and I've heard that you lose your waranty if you change any of the components of the motherboard, including the fan, and that doesn't appeal to me.
    Opinions?
    Thanks a lot!

    Hi fafner,
As a matter of fact it as 2, one on the southbridge an one on the power regulators, but are of 30 mm not that much noise
    Be well....
I thought only the K8N Diamond SLI has the fan on the power regulators.  I have the USA "non diamond club" version of the K8N Diamond, the K8N Neo4 Platinum SLI, and it only has a fan on the Northbridge, the power regulators/MOSFET's have a passive heatsink.
Regardless, IMO the Northbridge fan on my board isn't loud at all, I didn't worry about silence when I built, but my case fans are all medium RPM 120mm fans and my CPU watercooled, so if it was obnoxious I'd notice it.  It isn't.

  • Memory hole remapping on MSI Platinum P975 Powerup Edition - Solved

My OS is Vista Ultimate 64-bit SP1 and I have 4 GB RAM and my motherboard is MSI Platinum P965. My OS still shows only 3.25 GB RAM. Now I have come to know that I have to enable memory hole remapping feature in my BIOS but I cant seem to find it. Any help would be really appreciated.

Just make sure you use the latest BIOS Release [W7246IMS.790 [v7.9]].  The problem you have was fixed with BIOS v7.1:
    http://global.msi.eu/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=bios&maincat_no=1&prod_no=267
    Quote
    - Improved DDR2 800Mhz compatibility
    - Support 4G memory.
v7.9 will contain all previous fixes & adjustions.

  • K8N-PLATINUM NF4U SLI and PSU Question

    Hi
I have read a lot in these forums about the issues arose with the K8N-PLATINUM NF4U SLI  board and the PSUs most of the users have.
Because I am going to buy the specific board i would like your opinion about the SilentPurePower 560W PSu of ThermalTake.
It gives 22A on 12V trail and it comes with a 20 to 24 pin adapter for Server motherboards use.
In addition I am going to use 2 sata Hds as raid and 2 DVD drives( one of them DVD-R) and the SoundBlaster Audigy 2 Zs.(Of course the onboard  soundcard will be disabled).
Do you think that the PSU will be adequate?
    Thanks for your help

Thanks for your reply blazing storm but  many people here talk all about a "safe minimum of 24A on the 12V trail".
But if i sum up all my power requirements( dvds , processor:AMD 64 3500+ , HDDs etc) i come up with 18 or 19A.
After all the MSI itself suggest for it's K8n Platinum NF4U SLI at least 450W and greater than 18A on 12V trail so I suppose that it wiil be ok.
Maybe 24A it is proper for future upgrades.

  • MSI K8N NEO Platinum Edition memory question

    Hi there,
I've currently got a MSI K8N NEO Platinum Edition (Nforce 3) motherboard and 2X 512 MB Corsair Value Select memory modules (both double sided) running at DDR 400 - this runs completely stable and has done for a number of months. I would like to increase my memory to 1.5 Gig but there seems to be a lot of issues?
I originally planned to buy an additional 512 Meg Corsair value select chip and place it in Bank 3 - is this acceptable?
I assue that i would have to drop the speed down to DDR 333 from 400, could anyone tell me how much of a difference this actually makes (when playing FPS games Doom3 etc..) ?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as i've been looking through both this forum and the Corsair one and i cant seem to find the answer.
    thanks in advance !

Just note that there are combinations of two sticks that will also make the board run in DDR333 mode (see page 2-8 of the manual). For example, using two double-sided sticks in DIMM2 and DIMM3. I've actually managed to get it to work at DDR400 in those two slots, but it's not perfectly stable and overclocking diminishes drastically. Bottom line is the system will work fine when forced to DDR333...as long as you don't expect to overclock the RAM to any significant degree.

  • MSI P6N SLI Platinum OEM Modification Question

The MSI P6N SLI Platinum OEM edition motherboard comes with all the circuit layout needed to support 2 SLI x16 Style connectors for SLI'd video cards. However the OEM only comes with one installed and an empty slot for the other. What resistors and the like would I need to add to the board in order to add the pcie x16 connector to the empty area on the board? I've already found a source for the actual slot, and I know I am going to need to add a resistor of some type to the empty resistor slot directly above where the PCIe slot will go. Beyond that I don't know what else I need to do, or what type of resistor is needed.
Oh yeah, and where can I go to buy the optional accessories for this board that came with the retail version? I would have prefered the retail version but the board I have came as part of a kit.

    Hello Tornath,
you have already mentioned yourself, that you have an OEM-Board, not an MSI-Retail Board. MSI does not provide end-user support for OEM products, as this is the responsability of the OEM Vendor who is selling OEM Boards under a different name.  Also, this forum will not support OEM Products and that is why I will have to close this thread.
However, before you waste huge amounts of your lifetime with trying to add a second PCI-Express Slot to your OEM-Board, let me explain to you, why your plan is rather pointless:
    1) The only OEM-Board of this class I know of, has the model number MS-7350VP.  If there ever was a marketing name, it would be called P6N Platinum (not P6N SLI Platinum), and there is one simple reason for that:
    2) This particular OEM Board has an NVIDIA nForce 650i Ultra Chipset (as opposed to the NVIDIA nForce 650i SLI), and if you look at the specifications for NVIDIA Chipset on the official NVIDIA Chipset Specification Site, you will see that this Chipset does not support the NVIDIA SLI™ Technology: http://www.nvidia.com/page/nforce_600i_tech_specs.html   .... That is basically why there is no additional PCI-Express Slot in the first place.   So even if you should succeed in adding a secondary PCI-Express Slot to the board physically, the chipset will render it more a less useless in terms of running two video cards in SLI mode.

  • PSU Question on an MSI K8N Neo4 Plat

I ordered an Antec TruePower 430W for this system.  The manual says that it has a 20-pin connector for the main MB power connector.
Will I be able to use this PSU?
Will I have to get a converter piece for it?

    Quote from: jrb357 on 25-March-05, 14:30:21
Well if your True 430 is of the newer vers. with 26a on the +12v you should be just fine. I'm running one and things seem stable for the most part, other then that 220fsb OC issue with the Neo4 and Winnie's, but it OC's 270fsb x9 totally stable with Clockgen and with a 10% OC on the vid card scores a 4100 in 3DMark 2005. It has a minor studdering in some 3D games, that makes me wonder if a psu with the 24pin connector would help stablize it in 3D games just alittle. So i'd say if you already own the psu go ahead and use it, but if you're looking for a new one I'd think about a different psu that has the 24pin mobo connection with a minimum of 480w and 28a/+12v.
I would prefer to get the 1 gig of dual channel RAM first. BUT... if it is really needed I will get the power supply first. My Antec TruePower is maybe at least two or three years old.

  • MSI Neo4 Platinum SATA Drivers Question

I've recently purchased the above motherboard and am about to install Windows XP on it, and I have a 250GB Maxtor SATA drive. Now, do I need to bother slipstreaming the SATA Drivers into my XP installation CD? I had heard rumours that the device will detect as IDE and work properly until you give it the right drivers later on - is this true, or do I need to mess with an install CD?

If you have only 1 SATA disk or do not plan to use RAID then YES you do not need a floppy to load using F6.  XP includes standard drivers.
If you plan to add a 2nd disk and use RAID later then I would advise you to load both the nvatabus and nvraid drivers from a floppy using F6 at the start of XP install, as you may have to re-install XP otherwise.

  • Question about RAM timing etc. on MSI P965 Platinum ? 4th question

    Hi.
Just board new Cellshock mem. Now i want to chance the default DRAM voltage on the board from 1.90v to the
spcific ram (mem) setting. They are 4-4-4-12 2.1 to 2.2v
But the voltage settings is grayed out. How to chance it to 2.2v
    thx

Quote from: MuggeGHQ on 03-March-07, 07:00:13
    Found out now. Thx buddy
But maybe you can help me out with another thing
My new ram is Cellshock  DDR2 800 2GB kit standard for the ram is 4-4-4-12 2.1 - 2.2v
What i did in the bios for now was.
Disable the thing you just said (cant remember what you called it) and set it manualy to 4-4-4-12
Then back to cell menu and set the FSB to standard 266 first. And the ram to 800 and 2.0v
    Now in the CPU-Z it shows 400Mhz /  2:3  /  3-4-4-12  /  2T
Is that a good setting or ? i tought it would say 4-4-4-12 when i adjusted it to it manually.
I heard these ram could go op to around 1200Mhz ..  Damn. its true.
So could you point me in the right direction.
    thx man
There is a flaw in the BIOS that when you manually set the latencies in the BIOS it does not set properly. You can change the DRAM Voltage (Vdimm) with it set to SPD by using page up / down on that field. I think DDR2 800 will show up as 400 mhz in CPU-Z. I will check later.

  • MSI 915p Thoughts & ram questions

    Hi All,
I'm thinking of buying one of  MSI 915P neo2 Platinum motherboards, but i have a couple of questions. Firstly i'm having dificulty finding reviews for this mobo, so i've come here to see what you think of it (unbiased of course). Secondly i'm confused over what type of RAM it supports, some parts sellers list PC4200 others PC4300, i'm even seeing the newer PC5300 being mentioned. And finally what the difference between PC4200 & PC4300.
    Thanks inadvance

  • MSI GTX 560Ti Hawk Question

Just a quick question to start with, how many RPMs should my fans be doing at 100%?
I have a feeling something is going horribly wrong with my new card.

Use MSI Afterburner to adjust the fan speed - you can draw a graph and dictate how much the fan should be working against a given temp.
Is the MSI GTX 560 Ti Hawk the most problematic card.....i mean EVERYONE complains about fan noise and temps. If i had read the forums first before buying the card....i wouldn't have bought it.

  • MSI KT4AV and PSU FAN connector?

MSI KT4AV has 2 fan connectors: CPU FAN and System FAN. What about PSU FAN - is there PSU fan connector on this mobo? Can I connect PSU Fan to System Fan connector?
    LeHardi
    Jarek Kus

I've read that PSU Fan is not powered from Fan Connector, but it's only uses it to measure RPM of PSU Fan. RPM of PSU fans is controlled by PSU (Chieftec 360W HPC-360-202 DF). Is amperage so important in this situation? Sorry, if it's lame question but I don't know too much about PSU's. ;-)
