Quick noob boot question

on boot a couple of lines near the end read:
xxx write tlv

just wondered if they mean anything significant. I don't think they were there when I first installed Arch.
no problems otherwise, I'm loving Arch

    Quick SAP Script question
I have added a new page to an existing SAP Script BUT only want it to print if a condition is true.
I need to do this from within the form as the print program is SAP Std.
Any idea how I can prevent the new page from printing?
i.e. I need the form NOT to call the new page if the condition is false. Is there a way of forcing an exit or stop from with in the form?

    Hi,
To trigger a new page, there is script ediotr command NEW-PAGE.
so find where is that command is triggered and use the below code for trigger it on any specific condition....
    if &condition& = 'True'
    /*  NEW-PAGE
    elseif
    /: NEW-PAGE
    endif
so it means if condition is satisfied your new page will not work.. else it will...
    Hope you got it...
    Try this..
    Best luck..

  • I have what is hopefully a quick and easy question. I kno...

I have what is hopefully a quick and easy question. I know almost nothing about this stuff so go easy on me . All I need to do is find out if my DHCP is enabled. I'm having problems with my Xbox 360 and one of the possible problems is this DHCP thing. However I have no idea how to find the settings for my router on my computer. If it helps I have a Wirless model BEFW11S4. Thanks in advance for any help.

You need to access your router to check if the DHCP is on.  To access the router open your browser and type in http://192.168.1.1 into the address field and hit enter.  That should open the routers log on screen and by default the user is left blank (some routers it is admin) and the password is abmin.  If you changed your routers password as you should for security reasons then use that password.  That will bring you to your routers user interface and on the main set up page should be your DHCP.

You can't install a second OS on your PB. However your clone should boot your PB from the disk it's on. Just connect that disk, then in System Preferences >> Startup disk, choose it and restart.

  • Quick noob question...Service/wifi

I'm planning on getting an iphone but dont know how good the phone service will be in my apartment.
Would hooking up the iphone to my wifi boost the service signal if I had little to no service?
I believe my brother did this with blackberry.
Thanks in advance. I did try searching in case this question comes up a lot.

Since you say "phone service" I assume you mean can you use the phone's voice (cellphone) function over wifi. If that is the question, the answer is "no" (if you are in the U.S.) The only U.S. major carrier who currently offers cellphone calls over wifi is T-Mobile. Even if you are using an unlocked iPhone on T-Mobile, you cannot get this voice functionality. It requires a hardware chip called a UMA (for universal mobile access.) The original iPhone definitely does not have one of these. I do not know for certain if it exists in the 3G (I think not) but if it does, it is not enabled.
Regarding your brother, voice and Blackberry, IF he is on T-Mobile, you are likely correct. At least three of T-Mob's Blackberrys have this UMA functionality (marketed by T-Mob as "Hot Spot at Home.") These are the Curve, 8820 and and Pearl 8120 (but not the basic Pearl.)

  • A quick oc basics (noob?) question

    Hello boarders
Just bought this k7n2 Delta L board and after all the ram bulls**t I finally got it up and running tried overclocking da mufu but to no avail I've read about jumpers and cmos clearing, but I would like to know a fsb, vcore, and multiplier that'll work.  I know, no pain no gain, But I's poor now and can't afford a serious

Welcome to the forum, slabbage. I just wanted to advise you to create a signature w/ all your system's specs, and to invest a half hour or so reading all the Stickies, and guides at the top of each thread. That way you will get more effective assistance. Also you can do a search on the forum w/ the key words you are looking for help with. Lately the Moderators have had to take on even more work, b/c the forum is so popular, and they are a little tired of asking for signatures w/ system specs, as well as directing people to the same stickies over, and over again. Don't get me wrong, they, and I and everyone else are happy to help, and I for one am always impressed by people who are making the effort to become PC savvy and help themselves.   I just don't want the MODS to get understandably frustrated after giving so much to so many. Take, care!

  • Quick noob question

Long time AI + PS user and have been using Proshow Gold to make slideshow dvds for our photography but am absolutely fed up with the freezes and crashes.
Will Premeire Elements copyrite-protect my our photos like Proshow did? ie: prevent our customers from pulling digital files from the DVD we provide?
I looked in the over-view and tech-specs but couldn't find anything that specified yea or nea.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Even with the Copy Protection, that John T. mentions for a replicated DVD, there are ripping programs, all over the Internet, that will allow one to get around that protection. Now, a replicated BD (very, very expensive process) has better Copy Protection, but it just takes a bit more work to by-pass even that.
I feel that the best that one can do is to have a © notice (often referred to as the "FBI Warning"), and instruct the viewer that they may NOT copy any of the images, without specific, written permission. One is then entrusting the viewer, but at least they have been informed.
Good luck, and I'll have to investigate the Copy Protection in ProShow more closely. I have been looking at Producer for big SlideShows (I use PrPro now for those, and it works well for my purposes), but was unaware that ProShow had any Copy Protection, but maybe that was because I was not looking for it. Time for me to do some research, to see what scheme they employ.

  • 2008 imac - beachball lock ups and no-boot 'question mark in file' issue

Firstly apologies am new to this forum.. am happy imac user (2008) but recently my imac is freezing in use and/or failing to boot on startup; the grey screen showing for a bit and then a file with a question mark in it.  This now happens frequently and I find my self having to wait hours before my mac will boot.  I have looked through forum responses and tried disk repair utility, but that showed no problems other than repairing a few permissions - also downloaded and run EtreCheck - but again nothing obvious, although I'll readily concede I don't really know what I looking for.  Before I sadly head off on a long journey to a Genius Bar appointment maybe for a new hard drive?? Can anyone suggest anything please - all advice welcome. Thank you

    Hi triffiid,
I'm sorry to hear about the issues you've been having with your Mac. If you are currently booting to a grey screen with a flashing question mark, you may find the troubleshooting steps outlined in the following article helpful (apologies if you have already seen it):

  • New to Solaris - dual boot question

I have been using OpenSolaris on my ThinkPad T400s, dual booting with Windows 7. I want to give Solaris 10 a try. I've had it running in Virtual Box under OS X for a while, and I think I'm comfortable enough to try it out on my ThinkPad. Here is my question: will the Solaris Interactive installer let me install Solaris 10 in my existing OpenSolaris partition? And if it does, will it modify the bootloader so that I can still dual boot with Windows 7? I dont want to have to destroy partitions and re-install Windows. Once its on my hard drive, I can add myself as a user, install the Intel 5300 wireless driver, etc... Anyone have any other issues with Solaris 10 on a T400s?

Okay, well as usually happens, when I resort to help I end up solving my own problem.
In this case however, I still don't have a good grasp of what is going on.
I deleted the partition table with sgdisk --zap-all /dev/sda and then used gdisk to recreate it, specifically setting the code for /dev/sda1 to ef00.
I then reformatted the FAT partition, leaving the other one alone. After mounting /dev/sda1 to /boot and reinstalling linux and grub, I ran:
    grub-install --target=x86_64-efi --efi-directory=$esp --bootloader-id=arch_grub --recheck
as described in the wiki, and
    grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg
And it worked, including automatically detecting Windows on the other drive. Not sure what went wrong the first time but I'm glad to get it working.

  • MacBook Pro won't boot (question mark folder) after blue screen on windows bootcamp

    Hi,
So, I was on windows, using bootcamp, and I was creating partitions on a pen drive with it, and then it asks me that it needs to restart to apply changes.
But then, while restarting, a blue screen occurred (**** windows).... And I forced the shutdown pressing the power key.
Then, I simply turned the MacBook on, trying to boot on my snow leopard and I got a flashing folder with a question mark on it.
Now I can't access any partitions on it, if I press option key on startup I get a blank window!
I tried to reset PRAM, repair the MacOs partition using the snow leopard DVD (it shows up fine, along with windows partition and EFI partition), and I still don't get my startup disk showing up...
How can I fix this? I can't loose my files and I need to work with it :/

    I just fixed it!
For future reference, what I did was:
    - Booting from OSX DVD, go to disk utility
    - Erase windows partition (yap, I lost it...)
    - Do a "repair disk" on every partition of my hard drive
    - Restart
    And it just worked ;)
Thankfully I had no important files on my windows partition, now I will just reinstall it.

  • Macbook air does not boot (Question mark icon)

    Hi everyone...
This is actually a friend's problem so will need your guidence in very specific things... He owns a MacBook Air, that no longer boots in the Mac OSX. It just stays blank with the very well known questionmark / finder icon on the screen. As far as my knowledge goes, if it was a MacBook or a MacBook Pro, I would just connect it to my iMac with a firewire cable, turn the MacBook Air on as a hard drive (pressing the T key at start up) and try to back up the files or re-install the OS X if possible. But sadly that's not the case. Air doesn't have a Firewire port and I can't make a connection via USB...
So my questions to you are the following:
    1. Is there any possible way (other than opening Air and removing the disk) to connect MacBook Air with another Mac to try to back up its contents, like the Firewire method?
    2. How can I start the installation process of an OS if MacBook Air can't login (without superdrive obviously)?
I hope to hear from you guys soon, and I thank you in advance for rading all that text...!

First go through this diagnostic proceedure to see if it works.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1440?viewlocale=en_US
If that didn't help then to create a clone. You will need the Carbon Copy Cloner app from this site:
    http://www.bombich.com/
Make sure that the system you clone is supported on the MBair that you intend to boot.  For example, 10.7.2 Lion will boot all versions of the MBair.  10.6.8 Snow Leopard will run on all previous MBairs Except the latest July 2011 version which requires Lion.
Use CCC to clone your system to an external disk.  Then plug the disk into the MBair and boot holding the Option key down.  The boot manager will give you the external disk as an option to boot from.
Now that you're running from the clone, you can use and/or repair the internal disk of the MBair.

  • My Mackbook won't boot - Question Mark Folder

    Hi Everyone,
I've got a problem and I don't know how to fix it for the life of me. Last week my friend was trying to delete a program using the terminal. He looked it up online and found detailed instructions on how to delete it but it ended up deleting everything on the HD. That's as much as I know for the back story.
Now, when I got it from him I powered the machine on and it acted as though there was a leopard installer cd in the drive (and the cd wasn't in the drive) and would load up just past the language select and fail. It would say it can't be installed on this computer. So I used command+T and tried to repair the disk but it would fail and say that I couldn't. So I erased the disk and installed 10.4 clean install. Powered off the machine, reboot and now I get the question mark folder.
It seems like the drive is fine but the kernel wont see the drive. I believe the drive is fine because I can select it and boot from it with the other mac I have (g4 1ghz) while the macbook is in target disk mode.
I've tried zapping the pram a few times, taking out the battery and holding the powerbutton for three secs, holding command+s or v (single user and verbose modes dont start up at all), holding shift, holding x, while starting up and nothing works.
Can anyone help me!? I'm a freelance designer and I can't function without this thing.
    Thanks in advance!!

It means critical system files have been corrupted or damaged. You need to reinstall OS X:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

  • Win XP/Win 7 dual boot question and

My replacement motherboard for my crapped out Dell one that was a replacement, crapped out the other week and it was tested with a new power supply to no avail. it was also tested in a shortcut, (connecting the two wires directly, the two that "short out" that turns on the power) and that didnt work either.. (something like that)
    My options are:
buy another replacment motherboard and hope it stays working longer than the six months the other did
Buy a new computer and use my old hard drive
    thus arising this question:
since the new computer will have Windows 7 on it, can I use that as a slave drive and use my primary drive (not going to loose my data and stuff) I have the primary drive as XP but the new one will use 7, when I put in the win 7 drive as a slave drive, will it boot to 7 or XP and would I have the option to dual boot, even if they are seperate drives..
I think I am writing it a confusing way but I hope you can understand what I am getting at....
    Simply put--
    I have XP drive
I buy new computer it has Win 7 drive
Xp drive becomes master, win 7 becomes slave
Will XP boot or Win 7 boot when its set as the slave drive? what about XP/7 dual boot? they are on seperate drives, will it let me dual boot?
I want my XP drive to boot.
I hope you can understand that..
If I can, I would like to reformat the win7 drive and just use that for storage. is that possioble?
    Ethan
I just want some help or even an opinion, is that so hard to ask for?

Okay I read through your post a few times and I am still a bit confused about what your setup looks like. I am going to assume you bought a new computer with Windows 7 on it thus you DID NOT replace the motherboard on the old one. With that assumption, then your answer would be no, only Windows 7 would boot (and it might have some problems if you have it set as the slave drive). Windows XP from your old hard drive would not boot because simply put, the BIOS will not detect a proper boot.ini file and the hardware configuration (partitions and/or disk types) does not match up.
If you want to set up a dual boot, you would have to install the secondary hard drive (or partition the primary one) and perform a destructive OS restore on it AND find the drivers for it (if the manufacturer of the computer even supports it). When I used to work for the Geek Squad, numerous clients asked about this and the general consensus was that the Geek Squad strongly opposed it because of the drivers. Being that XP and 7 are a generation apart, the chances of the manufacturer of the computer or motherboard releasing drivers for both was unlikely. Sometimes the client would opt to have it done anyway but my former Precinct would always warn them that some features may not work correctly.
If you want Windows XP and Windows 7, I suggest the XP Mode that Windows Pro and Ultimate offers. You literally run Windows XP inside a window of Windows 7.
I DO NOT work for Best Buy. Whatever I post are just educated guesses or common sense.

  • Quick CSS box question

    Hi guys,
Firstly a very Merry Christmas to you all !
I'm just getting to grips with converting all the text on my
site to CSS and have a quick question.
On some of my pages I add an 'Also see' links box aligned to
the right - it's a CSS div tag thingy someone kindly talked me
through once. All of my pages are built from a template with an
    editable region.
My question is, can I add this box (perhaps with a standard
'Also check out' title and then spaces for my links) at the
template level? This will save me having to go to Insert>Layout
Objects>DivTag on every page. I've tried simply adding this to
the editable region of the template but it simply pushed the
editable region box over to the right and then didn't appear on my
    pages
Also, the links box would ideally appear about half way down
    my pages on the right...
Hope you can help, many thanks in advance!
    James
Here's an example page where I have manually added my link
box on the right of the page...
    http://www.fyrne.com/james_journalism/Pages/Mosaic_of_the_med.html

Your CSS link implies that the CSS file is in the Templates
    folder. You
shouldn't have anything there other than the template (dwt)
    files
themselves. Please move it out to any other location in your
    site.
    <link href="../../Templates/Box.css" rel="stylesheet"
    type="text/css">
Changes made to template editable regions would not propagate
    to existing
child pages - that's why you aren't seeing that addition in
    them....

  • A Few Quick Lenovo T410 Questions

    Hi all,
I posted here quite a while ago about my 9 cell battery in my integrated graphics T410 only lasting up to 5 hours. I have yet to send the notebook in simply because I haven't been able to go without it. However, I plan to do so at the start of this next week. Before I do so I was going to swap out the 500GB 7200.1RPM hard drive I installed with the 250GB 5400RPM drive that came with the notebook to see if it was an excessive power issue with the drive. This is where my worries are.
When I inserted the 500GB hard drive into the drive tray, I had a very hard time screwing the tray in place. The screws were damaged in the process, and I have worries about taking them out, and putting them back in again. I am still under warranty.
Am I able to recieve a new set of these screws?
    Also, 2 quick questions
I plan on moving my 500GB drive into the slot where my optical drive is now, and putting a SSD in wheremy 500GB drive is located now. Do I need to buy anything special to make this work?
I also plan on upgrading from the 2x2GB RAM I installed myself (machine came with 1x2GB), to 4x2GB. Is this RAM compatible?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
I think only lenovo techs can determine or tell that, but my guess is that if they feel they need to be replaced, then they probably will.

    1. Yes, you would need this:- http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-73170.html
    2. Yep, the RAM will definitely work.
