Quick Question: Setting Render File Location

Hi all,
Quick question. I'm guessing with all the disappointment, the answer will be no, but I fully realize that I could have overlooked something so its worth asking!
In FCP7 (familiar phrase huh?) you could explicitly set a location for render files. I understand that you can save FCPX Events on different drives, as well as your projects, however it appears as if the Render Files are getting saved with a folder which also contains your .fcp project file.
I ask because I like having my project file on my internal so my Time Machine will pick it up when I have it hooked up, but all of those render files take up loads of space and I'd like that on my external media drive instead.
Is there:
a.) A way to tell FCPX to store Render Files in a different location
OR
b.) A way to move the Render Files to a different location without screwing up FCPX's ability to recognize the project and load it properly.
If so, great! If not, I'll send it along as a suggestion among with some others. Other than those overlooked technical aspects, I'm kind of digging the UI of FCPX and background rendering is saving me so much time its not even funny.

I spent a bit of time on this today without any success.
In our studio, it's only me that edits... but I use a laptop and a macpro when things get serious. I have a RAID array tyed to the Macpro, and I access it with my laptop via gigabit ethernet.
I created aliases, and when I opened FCPX, nothing appeared. I also was not able to change the name of events I created, and while it would write the project name and events to the new aliased directories... when I reopened FCPX the events and projects were missing.
I then tried symbolic links via the terminal. No luck. I then checked ownership permissions, and made sure the permissions were ignored for the drive and everything was world readable and writable. No luck.
Have you had a chance to experiment with this yet?

HELP Set render files location

Hi Guys,
I'm new here, I'm a former FCP editor and I'm now on Pr 5.5. (and will be moving to CC soon) I have a question about setting up where my render files go as of right now they are save to my laptops hard drive and are eating up a lot of space (like they do) and I would like to set it up so that they save to my external hard drive with all my other media files. I have look around online and I can't seem to find a real answer so please forgive me if this a stander noob question that you have all heard a hounded times before.

That is what I saw online but my 5.5 Preferences has 2 options "Media Cache Files" and "Media Cache Database" and they are both going to my external drive and when I render it still goes to my Laptops drive.

Render file location

Hi,
After the render complete, the project file become very big. I understand that the project file contains important info about the movie and the render result. I like to write the render result in diffierent file location. Actually folder that the time machine doesnt backup. Today I set the idvd to remove the render result and then go to TM to remove the big file that contained the render result.
Do you know if idvd enable to set the rendering folder?

choosing 'create image' in iDVD allows to set manually any ext. HDD..
but while processing, iDVD needs some 15-20GBs on the internal drive for hidden temp-files (=will be erased after finishing burn); you can not de-locate that ..

How to set default file location in Illustrator?

I'm using Creative Suite CS5 in Windows Pro 64, and would like to set a default location for files in Illustrator and Photoshop when I execute the File > Open or File > Save commands.
Yes, the program defaults to the location of the last file opened, but sometimes that file is gone, or I'm creating a new one from scratch, and the program looks for files in a distant place in my file structure.
** Is it possible to set a default file location for opening and saving in Illustrator CS5 (and in Photoshop CS5)?

Not that I know of. It simply reverts to the global "My Documents"/ "Documents" folder as provided by your operating system. these can of course be changed using variables and editing the Windows Registry/ Group Policies, but that affects all programs...

Question About Project File Location

I was wondering how important is the project file location when it comes to performance?
Currently, I store all of my adobe project files(AE, PRP, ENC) on my SSD along with my OS and applications.
Btw, I am familiar with the guidelines for disk usage, but cant seem to find anything that has covered this specific question.

My C:\ is an SSD, and that is OS and programs only. My D:\ is a fast WD 500 GB Raptor, and is reserved for Page file, My Documents. digital photos, and Video Projects. E:\ and F:\ are both WD RE4 RAID0s, so all my drives are fast.
I keep files which are frequently re-written, or replaced, off my SSD to avoid any risk of degradation due to repeated re-writing to the memory.

Quick Question - Setting up Personal Domain with godaddy

Just a quick question to make sure I've done this correctly?
Ok, I've published my iWeb website.
I've purchased a personal domain with godaddy.
I've set up the personal domain in my mobile me account.
I then logged into my godaddy account and went to 'Total DNS Control and MX Records'
I changed the following under CNAME (Aliases)
www web.me.com 1 Hour
and then added a new CNAME Record
www.*******.com web.me.com 1 Hour
Have I done this all correctly?
Will it take a few hours to take effect?
Anything else I need to consider?

CNAME settings can take up to 24 hours to take effect.
As long as you have forwarded your domain name to web.me.com, then it should be okay.

IMovie - quick questions about video files when importing and optimizing

Hi, have some quick questions. I think they are simple.
1. When I import a video (from say iPhoto), where does it get "Move" or "Copy" to?
2. Why would I want to do "Copy" instead of "Move", because isn't it then taking up more space?
3. I'm wondering if after I optimize a video, I can stash away the original (non-optimized video that I either "Move"d or "Copy"d earlier) into an external hd.
4. By the way, what is the new file name of the optimized video?
Though things are working fine in iMovie and iPhoto, I'm trying to manage hard disk space, and hope answers to these questions will help.
Do you guys have a guideline on how to manage hard disk space when it comes to iphoto and imovie?

This is a SnoCap jukebox and you need an account to use it but you'll get the link to ESnips on the above page.
A 3 minute song has a file size of about 30 Mb in AIFF format. Converting it to MP3 reduces it to about 3.5 Mb and M4A to about 5.5 Mb.
iTunes will do these conversions for you and M4A is far superior to MP3 as far as sound quality is concerned.

Setting Default File Location

Hi All,
Just installed Premiere Pro CS5 and have found difficulty in locating where to set the global location for the scratch disks. The only place I have located so far is in the project file. If this is only place, to have to set the scratch disk each time is rather onerous. Hopefully someone can point me to the (hidden) location for setting this globally.

Thanks - think our situations are a bit different. I have multiple users on the single system so reminding each to set the scratch drive each time they create a project will be a mission.
We used to have Premiere Elements which had a single scratch location, within which each project had its own subfolder. Hence my expectation that Pro would operate in the same way.
Perhaps Adobe could provide us with the option of working both ways - a global setting which can be overridden within the project.

Backup or Storage Question and Default File Location

I just got a EX2 6TB and I am very new to this concept of cloud storage.I have my EX2 in RAID 1. I have two questions: 1) Can this product be used as both a storage and backup device or must you decide to do one or the other?1a) If you can use the EX2 as both for backup and storage - how do you do that? I want to use this primarily as storage and move files from my computer, which is full, to the EX2. But, if I use the EX2 as storage then I assume I need a backup system - another EX2 or separate external drive. 2) If I use the EX2 as my primary storage device how do I set my computer for all files to be saved on the EX2 without drag and drop every time for every file or all my daily work? Yes, you can use that as both. Just make sure to map the drive properly and it will show within your network and you will be able to copy and paste files to it manually and to access to the drive directly.
2) If I use the EX2 as my primary storage device how do I set my computer for all files to be saved on the EX2 without drag and drop every time for every file or all my daily work?
Not sure if you will be able to set the unit as a primary storage for all of your applications. Some of them will not allow you to save directly to a network unit.

Quick question - Setting up an XP desktop to stream music through AE?

This might be a silly question, but I'm slightly confused about how to set up the Airport Express to stream music to my sound system.
I am buying a desktop (win XP) which I connect via ethernet cable to my existing wireless router (D-Link). Does the desktop need to have a wireless card built-in as well in order to be able to stream music to the Airport Express? Or can the desktop stream via the cable-connected router?

actually connected to my Airport Extreme Base Station
via ethernet.
I did nothing special other than setting up my
network to include my Express, and then the option to
stream to it was there in iTunes.

Cs3 color setting xml file location ( colors.xml )

In previous versions of dreamweaver ( or previous to windows
vista ) I was able to access this file via documents and settings
and then into the macromedia subfolders.
It contained the file colors.xml which held my code coloring
preferences.
Any idea where that file would be in CS3 adn Vista?

I haven't created any custom colours, but Vista search found

I presume that if an individual user creates a set of custom
colours,
the XML file will be in the Roaming folder.

Quick Question re: .pat files

i am just curious about something.
some things have recently changed on my computer of which i have no idea why or when the changes took place ... one those pc mysteries
any way, one of which is that the icon for the photoshop pattern files are all now GIMP icons even though when i installed them they had the photoshop (cs6) icon to the left of the pattern name
anyone have any idea why this change has taken place?

well, i did uninstall and then reinstalled GIMP b/c i thought there was a stable update but it wasn't at all stable and so i un/reinstalled GIMP so maybe that's what happened ... ??
file association?? erg. this topic drives me nuts and is one of which i should read more about & hadn't considered as a cause so thank you for that suggestion.
but still ... i do think gremlins are the most logical and reasonable cause

Setting Imported File Location

Hello All and Happy New Year!
I have a large quicktime movie I have saved to an external hard drive due to lack of space on my internal. I have created a new movie file and saved it to the external as well. Now I'm trying to import the file, but getting a not enough space message and it looks like it is due to the file structure of iMovie. Can I change this so that the files are all on the external and I'm working from that? TIA.

Just a side note I have discovered.
You can put the file in the Media folder and recover it from the trash next time you open the file.
That way you do not need double the space for storage.

Can I have two locations set for files in my iTunes library?

I have most of my movies and TV Shows on a hard drive connected to my router at home so i can access the files from any device. I was wondering if i can set two file locations for my movies and TV Shows so if i disconnect the hard drive from the router and plug it into my mac directly iTunes will still know where the files are.
Any help would be great.

iTunes Match does not work on GB amount. There is a 25,000 track limit on tracks not purchased from the iTunes Store, so concevialy you could have much more than 60GB, but less than the 25K track limit.
So, yes, your entire library will be available on all the iDevices you own in the cloud. However, not everything will "match." Some tracks will "upload."

I can't save pic. from net. "set your download location place as "Pictures"" That button doesn't work, or button for "browse" to send a file.

With my new browser i can't save pictures from net. I saw a question about changing file location. I can't, coz that button doesn't work. Also if i want to send a file, using mail or something, browser button for searching file doesn't work. Thanks.

I am using Firefox for several years and never had any problem. Since i update it to the new Firefox, problems start:
If i am trying to save a picture from ALL internet, it is not working. I am doing in the same way, like always: view image/save image as.... When i click it is not working, and all my screen doing like i make a refresh. I saw something strange files in temp after i am trying to save a picture, files with name like "etilqs" and some other letters after, the files are hidden. When i close firefox, files disappear.
If i am trying to send an e-mail with some files, button for search files in my pc, is not working, and when i click him, same thing with my screen. It is not about what kind of mail i am using, same problem if i want to attache a file on a site, even if i try to change files location in browser setup, like : options/general/save files to/... and i hit "browse..." button, same problem like i want to attache a file. Even here, if i want to use "ADD IMAGES" option, under is browse button, it is not working, same problem with my screen. Like is angry or something.
