Quick question. Upgrading from 10.4.11 to 10.5... Is there an option to

In upgrading from 10.4.11 to 10.5 is there an option to backup and restore users/files/apps? I don't want to have to re-install everything and lose all my mail etc...
Or maybe it does it automatically?

The Mac OS X 10.5 installer gives you three choices: (1) Upgrade, which leaves as much as possible in place. (2) Archive and Install, which preserves applications and personal documents, but sets some system files aside. (3) Erase and Install.

I'm thinking of upgrading my CS3 to CS5, but the CS3 license is bought from another country. So am I able to upgrade my CS3 to CS5 where CS3 is purchase in Asia Pacific and CS5 is purchase in US?

Reports 9i and Graphics Wizard questions - Upgrade from 6i

Hello,
I am trying to convert my 6i reports to 9i and I have a lot of questions. First, it is my understanding that if we want the reports in the 9i format I will have to recreate all of my graphs. Is this right? Second, when I run the graphics wizard with a report that has multiple queries, it is not retreiving from the query selected in the wizard. Also, with the new graphics wizard can you reuse graphs? I currently have 5 reports that point to the same 2 ogd files. Will I now have to go in and build the same graph 6 times? Finally, if you could point me to some good documentation, I would appreciate it. I have around 30 reports with graphs on them, so if anyone has any suggestions that will make this easier, please let me know.

First, You can run the 6i reports with OGD in reports 9i, provided you have your Oracle 6i home is in system path
and the regsitry variable ORACLE_GRAPHICS6I_HOME is set to pint your 6i oracle home
Now, if you wan to open these 6i report with OGD and modify the report in 9i builder, then the OGDs are loast when saving this reports from 9i
buikder, so you would need to recreate the graphs using the graph wizard

Best way to upgrade from PSE 5.0 to PSE 8

I have installed, as an administrator, PhotoShop Elements 5.0, for a user. I wan to upgrade that to PhotoShop Elements 8.
What is the best way to do this?
When I did this several years ago, going from PhotoShop Album 2.0 to PSE 5.0 it was suggested to do this, which I did:
I backed up the catalog through the menu option in PhotoShop Album. Uninstalled PhotoShop Album, Installed the new PhotoShop Elements 5.0. Restored the catalog. This worked perfectly fine. Is this a good route to go for an upgrade from PSE 5 to PSE 8? Is there a better way?

Thanks for the quick response.
The user on this system mostly uses PhotoShop Elements 5.0 to orgainize her photos. I don't think she does much editing of the photos. She has over 20,000 photos.
I thought that upgrading ti PSE 8 would give her better performance. But, I now see several reviews saying that the orgainizer performance in PSE 7 and PSE 8 is worse.
Do you have any comment on that?

Upgrade from eprint to hp connected - can't drag and drop apps to arrange them like I did before!

I upgraded from eprint to HP Connected today. Now it won't let me back into eprint website (and, yes, I would not have gone back if something didn't work right at hp connected).
I could drag and drop the placement of my apps to arrange them as I want them on the printer display touchscreen at eprint. However, I can't drag or drop anything at hp connected and I don't see any help on managing the placement of apps on your printer.
How can this be done? It was easy before - just drag and drop and website updated printer. I have a officejet 7610.

Thanks for trying but your answer is incorrect, according to an email I received today from HP Connected:
"I have reviewed your email. I understand that you have questions related to rearranging the order of the apps on the printer. I know this can be frustrating, and I want you to know you're certainly valuable to us and I want to do everything possible to ensure your complete satisfaction. The following information should provide the answers you need:
1) Unfortunately when HP launched the new website (www.hpconnected.com) they did not include a method of rearranging the apps on the printer. They may include this feature in a future update, however as this time it is not available.
2) If you have made the upgrade from eprintcenter to HP Connected you do not have the option of returning. Eprintcenter is in the process of being eliminated and unfortunately retuning to the old site is not possible."
I hope <<S-O-O-N>> HP fixes this new website -- it's crazy to take away any controls like this from their customers and not either embellish them or at least leave them be.
I may take this 7610 OJ back for a new Brother 11x17 all-in-one --- they look nice )

Want to upgrade from CS3 [Design Premium] to CS5

Hi,
Want to upgrade from Design Premium CS3 to CS5 and saw there's a difference in price from upgrading from CS4 & CS3. Dumb question: If I bought the CS5 upgrade, would I be able to install the suite or would it ask for the previous CS4 version? If it only asks for CS3 I would really save some $$$$$$.

What do you mean, there is a difference between upgrading from CS3 and CS4? An upgrade is an upgrade, there is only one price for an upgrade.
In CS4 (and CS5) Adobe introduced tiered upgrade pricing for suites only.

Of course not. It's a hardware problem, so it can't be fixed by upgrading software. The only option you have got is to take the MacBook to an Apple Store or reseller.
That error indicates a problem with the hard drive. What you have to do is to make a backup of your files and take the MacBook to an Apple Store or reseller, so they can confirm that the problem is the hard drive and not the SATA connector, which could be worse.
If it's a hard drive issue, it's not expensive (about $100-200, depending on the hard drive). If it's a SATA connector issue, the whole logic board may have to be replaced.
Note that you can replace the hard drive yourself if you want, but the cost between doing it yourself and taking the MacBook to an Apple Store or reseller is similar

Upgrading from OS X 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard

When upgrading from 10.5.8 to snow leopard is there any prep required and do i need to reload installed software like adobe pro, skype, ms office etc?

Only some 10.5 software is PowerPC only. Apple's transition to Intel began with Mac OS X 10.4.4. Software written for any system 10.4.4 and up could be PowerPC only, or Intel only. or able to be used on both. The key with discovering which it is, is asking if it is coded for "Universal" or looking on the search engines on the user tip and its associated links. 10.6.8 was the last system that included Rosetta as an optional install, which allowed non-plugin nor-driver associated PowerPC applications to run on Intel Macs. 10.5 does not include support for Classic, but the PowerPC Macs that could boot into 9, and supported 10.5 could still boot 9 after installnig 10.5. Classic allowed one to run Mac OS 9 applications side by side with Mac OS X in much the same manner Rosetta allows PowerPC applications to run side by side with Intel applications. The only difference is you had more control over a few Mac OS 9 extensions within Classic, whereas no deliberate control can be given to PowerPC kernel extensions within Rosetta.

Be carefull when upgrading from Panther to Tiger

If you choose to upgrade from Panther to Tiger by using the Erase and install option on the Tiger DVD install disk, your XServe RAID won't mount. The problem seems to be that the driver for the RAID won't be updated in the process.
The solution for me was (by advice of Apple Support) to reinstall Panther. My RAID came up fine and I then did a upgrade to Tiger using the update and install.

Mattur:When I restart to install the OS, it goes into a Kernel Panic and tells me to restart.I take it to mean that you mean you put the install disk and open it and at the prompt you restart, and it goes into the kernel panic. I notice too that you sayI can reinstall Panther with the disk the computer came with , but I can't install Tiger..In other words there is a problem is with the Tiger disk.
Are you using a Full Retail Version of Tiger? Computer specific versions or update versions will not work.
If you are planning to install Tiger check out System Requirements to be sure your computer complies.

Upgrade from 2600 to 8800?

Im planning to upgrade my early2008 Mac Pro (Leopard 10.5.2) graphics from 2600XT to 8800GT. Is that great for professional use - CS3 (After effects , photoshop and Premiere)?
Some customers reviews say the 8800 is a great difference for games but NOT DIFFERENCE AT ALL OR EVEN SLOWER for professional applications. Is that right? Little bit disappointing, isn't it?

So I'd hold off. I just upgraded from the 2600 to the 8800 yesterday. There was no observable boost in the pro apps, namely motion is the one I really tested. In windows XP pro however, my framerate in Age of Conan increased dramatically. I went from having shadows, et al disabled running in 1400x resolution at 15-30FPS to all features turned on in full 1600x resolution getting 40-60FPS. This is awesome.
The downside however is that a) I'm out 300 bucks, and b) the 8800 runs quite hot in comparison... no just hot period. The MP case in the rear near the card is, is actually very warm almost hot to the touch where before with the 2600 it was just barely warm. I'm actually here in the forum browsing for info on the heat because it seems like the MP case's main exhaust fan isn't getting the heat out of there as well as it should. Obviously, this is when the card is under a full load such as playing a graphics intensive game for a couple hours. Fortunately, I've observed no glitches in the card's performance due to heat, as of yet, but never the less it's of concern because the MP's case is now a furnace.

Upgrading from Tiger Intel Mac XServe to Leopard

I would like to find out whether if i have existing shared folders and users, when upgrading from Tiger to Leopard Intel Mac XServe, will there be any problem? Do i need to backup any database or files? I would appreciate if anyone could help me.

Help upgrading from EA6200 to EA6400

Hello,
I'm upgrading from a Linksys EA6200 to a EA6400, is there a way to backup all the setting of the EA6200 and restore to the EA6400? I want to keep my MAC filtering and all my setting from the EA6200. Not sure if is even possible but had to ask.

Printed manuals with CS4 upgrade from Adobe?

If I order Production Premium CS4 UPGRADE from Adobe (I now have CS3 ProPre); are there printed hard-copy manuals? And if so, how many?

There are no printed manuals included with any version of the software.
I believe there are pdf files on the DVDs which are basically a subset
of what is available in the help files. There are installed helpfiles
and internet based help files. The internet based helpfiles are the most
comprehensive and up-to-date. In the past printed manuals were made
available for a fee.

Quick question from future mac user

Hi there.
Just a quick question about the Intel iMacs.
Total noob with Macs so please forgive me, I'm looking to get away from Windows and PC's but not sure what I would need exactly.
Would the 24":3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac with 4GBs of RAM and 1TB hdd be more than enough to handle video/audio editing with Final Cut Pro Studio, some gaming (such as newer MMO games or RPG/FPS games) and maybe running VMware Fusion for running Windows apps and games that I have/use that are either not available or not yet supported by Apple?
Or would I be looking at goin with the Mac Pro?
I'd rather shoot for the iMac because I'm SO tired of PC's and boxes and would like my computer to actually look nice as well as kick butt. But I'm just worried that if I got with the iMac I won't be able to perform those functions well or at all.
I love the look and feel of the iMac although I don't think you can get more than 4GBs of RAM or more than ONE hard drive inside (which isn't a big concern as I can always use external drives) so I'm just wondering if upgrading to the extra ram and hdd space from the get go would be a great help without having to worry about adding more later.
I'd like to be able to just use the iMac than the Mac Pro because the price difference seems to jump up quite a bit between iMac and Mac Pro. I'm just worried if that type of iMac setup wouldn't be enough for what I need.
Any suggestions or information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The iMac in general is more than enough to perform those tasks well however the Mac Pro still has it's advantages. Lenn already went over those so take a look at these speed scores as they may help you to make your decision.

this is good question, why because sap upgrades from 4.6b to ecc 6.0 is very risky.
take one example , in 4.5b , me21n application having 620 screen where as in ecc 6.0 having 9000 screen . that time we will take care of it.
check the obsolete function modules , 4.5b , having ws_upload, ws_download.... use cl_gui_frontend_services , under these having differnt type of methods.
once you change the code in ecc , go to tranx : SLIN check the error where it is exact.
