Quick Scroll Up

I used to tap on the black bar on Safari above the web address bar and the web page would quickly scroll back up to the top. However, this function no longer seems to be working on my new iPad. Did I inadvertently turn it off somehow? Can someone help? Thanks in advance.

I also just noticed that the time and my battery life are not showing up on the black bar also.

How do I quickly scroll in large documents?

I recently made the jump into Apple products and so far everything has been awesome. However I'm having one issue with my iPad 2. I just can't seem to figure out how to scroll quickly on the iPad 2.
On my phone a small 'scroll box' appears on the right hand side for quick scrolling, is there anything similar for the iPad 2? Or is there any other way to quickly scroll within a long document or web page?

It would be dependent upon the app, there is no global setting. Safari doesn't have one, and neither does Atomic Web browser from the App Store. Another browser, iCab Mobile, says that by tapping with three fingers you can bring up a 'scrollpad', which 'let's you instantly scroll to any location within a web page', but I haven't got the app so I haven't seen how well it works.
For documents GoodReader has a scroll bar on the left-hand side (for PDFs anyway).

Quick Scroll Gray Square Gone

Just like the title says, the gray square is gone when I try to quick scroll (it still scrolls quickly). I just get to see the rough outlines.

Alphabetic Quick Scrolling In Albums Produces Mixedup Listings

My video iPod (2nd Gen.) has started to produce a strange result whenever I use the Alphabetical Quick scrolling in my Albums list.
For example In my Artists lists, when I scroll quickly it starts with all the numerical entries and then starts with the alphabetical entries (i.e. 123, A, B, C, and so on to the end of the list.
Now until the past couple of days, it had worked perfectly like this in my Albums list, but now its starts off as A, G, T, S B, C, E etc. etc., and I find that all the album titles are all mixed up!
It is a real pain, as I have around 9500 tracks, and since I got the video iPod I found that this quick scrolling feature a godsend after using my previous iPods.
Does anyone know what might cause this, and hopefully how I might fix it.
I know its not life threatening or even seriously impeding my bipod use, but all the same, I would like this feature back in my Albums list.

Hello, I have just updated my 5G ipod to 1.2 and there is no quick scroll. I have 1500 songs and am def scrolling fast enough. Am I missing a setting or something?

If you have your music divided by artist you can get quick scrolls by jumping by first letter, but when you are viewing songs the only way to go fast is to turn your wheel fast. I have a protective cover over my scroll wheel as well and i was able to get through 3300 songs in 5 seconds. So it could also be your iPod. May want to make a genius bar appointment and see if there is anything wrong.

Second language to the "quick scroll" in contacts and iPod?

I'm looking for a way to add a second language to the "quick scroll" (the one on the right hand side of the window) in Contacts and iPod.
Today I only see the english alphbet there, is there a way to add a second (or even third language)?

It's a late answer, but you can put quite whatever you want in /etc/locale.conf, depending on your needs.
As you can see here https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Co … ide_locale, you can only set LANG and the other LC_* variables will be set based on this. But you can also tweak a little bit the LC_* variables if you know what you're doing.

How do i turn off the STUPID gestures? every time i quickly scroll a large page i get switched to previous sites i've been at, very, very annoying! i hate gestures!

i'm using firefox 4.0 on an amd cpu running suse linux 11.4. i've completely turned off the gestures in suse (one of the first things i do, i can move a mouse very quickly and i like it to be a mouse!), i can't find a plugin or setting to turn these damn things off. the main problem is when i use the scroll wheel to rapidly move up or down a long web page and wind up on another page suddenly, very, very annoying! i really, really HATE gestures! then again i know how to use buttons etc. and i do mouse very quickly and creatively ( i also turn off several other "conveniances" like automatic window resizing, i know how to manage windows.....) thanks, i really, really hate these "features" being on by default, people with certain disabilites are probably also highly annoyed by the lack of choice in some procucts.

You can set all the mousewheel.with*.action prefs to 0 to perform a scroll.

To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website. 
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page. 
If necessary then you can also set all the browser.gesture prefs to empty String values.

IBooks 1.2 how to quickly scroll up to Search box

The Search box in iBooks 1.2 is now hidden at the top of the page.
I have >1000 books. The search used to be available on the toolbar no matter where I was in the list of books.
Now I have to manually scroll all the way to the top of the page to search. Is there a quick way to get to the search at the top of the page?
This is in the Categories tab, with the List view.

I would never thought of touching the time (bar) at the top of the screen since that bar is not even really a part of the application.
Seems like a multi-gesture swipe up (or down) would be a more obvious way to do this. Or a press (and hold) popup option to jump to the beginning/end of the list.
But regardless, I'm glad this posting was here.

ITunes Radio quickly scrolling songs and not playing any music

On both a iPhone 4 and 4S when a station is played it just scrolls through all of the songs really fast and does not play anything. Is anyone else seeing this behavior?
iOS 7 and on work (aka not manged by me) WiFi
Am not experiencing this behavior on WiFi at home.
This leads me to believe work network has TCP ports 8000-8999 and 42000-42999 blocked.
Is anyone else seeing this behavior...or can confirm my suspecion?

I'm having this problem as well. I used to listen to iTunes radio at work frequently. But the past few months or so, it simply fast scrolls through songs (on any station). I'm lucky if I get one song to play and then the scrolling starts. I do not have this problem with my WiFi at home, so I suspect it has something to do with the WiFi at work. Just wondering if anyone found any settings to change or a workaround to the issue?
I agree with sounds_good; I wish Apple would find a solution with a future iOS update as I miss iTunes radio while at work!
And I find it odd that Pandora has never been problematic like iTunes radio is...

How to turn off quick alphabet scroll???

how do you turn off the quick alphabet scroll??
I have the 60gb 5g ipod with latest f/w
the problem is that it's great to have the quick scroll, but once i got into that letter, it's hard to scroll to the middle without going to a different letter.
example... I want to go to "one step closer"... i would do quick scroll to letter "O"... but then i want to go to the middle to "one..."... but if i go too fast, it went to letter "P"... and so on... Is there an easier way???...
Man how much I would love to have that search function...

i know.... but once in letter "o"... i want to go to the middle of the list... say song "one ..."... If i scroll too fast it would just skip "o" and go to "p" and so on, start the alphabet scroll again...
let say I have 300 songs that start with the letter "O"... what is the best way to go lets ya somewhere in the middle... it would take a long time to scroll slowly to the middle of the letter 'o'... if i scroll too fast, it would skip 'o' and go to the next letter...

for some reason apple don't want to release it for the older 5g ipod... they can release game download for the older 5g ipod, because they would make money of it...

Quicker ways to scroll through mail?

I don't know if I'm just being an idiot... But where are the arrow keys to quickly scroll through mail etc? It's taking me ages to click on each email whereas on my phone can go through them quickly. And advice?

You can swipe up and down the list in the preview windo on the left when you are in landscape view. If you tap the top of the screen in the center of the preview list - you can quickly scroll back to the top of the list.
From what I can see - and frankly I never paid much attention to it, you do not have the arrows in lanscape view except for when the emails have been in threaded view - when you respond to an email - you get another response - and so on. So apparently I was wrong about that. I picked the wrong email to experiment with.
Use the swipe up and down method in landscape view.

Captivate project scrolls quickly through screens

Hi all
I've recently released an e-learing using Captivate2, this is
done for big organisation with different departments using
different computers and software, so testing all these setting was
not possible. Few users are experiening problems running the
training from Internet Explorer browser. The front page comes up
then it quickly scrolls to the end.
Has any one came across any smilar problem or know why this
can happen.

to a later
version of Flash than an end-user has the player for, it's
pretty much
just those newer-version features that don't work.

Scrolling TV screen with DVI to Video Adapter

I just purchased a DVI to Video Adapter from the Apple store. When I initially hooked it up (disconnected the monitor, and plugged the new adapter in with TV connected), it worked fine, but the entire screen was not visible.
I tried to change the display preferences while connected to the TV... From this moment on, my screen on the TV continuously and quickly scrolls up in a loop - similar to old TVs that need fine tuning with the horizontal hold or a hard hit on the side.
Is my adapter faulty or is there a setting issue?

I believe that preference is stored in PRAM.

So resetting PRAM as noted earlier should be the method.
However, there may be a supplemental preference file that is involved. I opened two Finder windows to
<startup volume>/Library/Preferences/
<user folder>/Library/Preferences/
and set them to display as a list and to sort by date (most recently changed at the top).
Then, I opened System Preferences Displays pane and changed resolution or refresh rate. The preferences files that changed were.
<startup volume>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver.plist
<user folder>/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.windowserver.001b6337b3a2.plist
<user folder>/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.preference.displays.001b6337b3a2.p list
So you can try move those to the desktop and restarting. The problem is that they may get recreated before you can restart, but if they were somehow messed up, it may work to recreate them.
You can do a test by creating a new admin user account in System Preferences Accounts pane. Log out and log in to the new user. Does the TV work if you are logged in as the new user?
Also, try starting up using the your Mac OS X installation disc, with your TV connected. Does the TV then display properly?

It still works on my iPad - is it working on any of your apps e.g. Safari, Mail, Notes, and are you touching right at the top of the screen (I've seen a few other posts implying that the area of the screen that you need to touch isn't quite as deep as it used to be) ? Have you tried a reset to see if it works after the iPad has restarted ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

Word file will not scroll to printer in classic

I'm using microsoft office 2001. When I want to print a word file (using classic envir.), it stops until printing is completed. (I have a Canon i550 ). When working off (OS 10.2.8) Appleworks, the file quickly scrolls to printer and I can go on to something new. It used to work the same for word - not sure what happened after I opened a newer word file sent to me. I tried turning background printing on - it appears to scroll, but never prints. I reinstalled Office 2001, didn't work either. It's a home computer, not networked to anything else. Since printing works fine with Appleworks and OS 10.2.8 - I think there's a small glitch somewhere. Any ideas?

When you get messages from the Mac, you need to be sure what they mean, or post them here word-for-word, or both.
If you tried to set Extensions Manager to Mac OS (Base) and it complained, then either something is missing of your Mac, or someone has reconfigured it… either way, that needs to be sorted before looking at optional third-party installations, yes?
If it just seems to involve the Classic system that's probably good - anything that affected both Classic and X would probably indicate a faulty printer.
When you still get the same error message (M501) when you reistalled Office, which message was that, word for word, please?
If this was my Mac I'd be ignoring Office - the printer doesn't need Office to test or to work normally, and if only Office and no other apps are having print problems, that's 99% certain an Office, not a printer problem.
If your Mac won't let you set Extensions Manager to Mac OS (Base) then you need to use the Clean System Option in your latest OS 9 install disk to make a fresh System Folder and work from that.
The the Clean System Installation Option will give you a new working System Folder and the current one will be preserved alongside it, denatured and renamed as Previous System Folder but otherwise unchanged, so you can always go back to it.
Before trying the Clean System Installation Option you should physically disconnect everything except screen and (Apple) keyboard and mouse then Restart the Mac.
Make the Clean System Installation, launch that as Classic and install the printer precisely according to the maker's instructions.
If it doesn't work on that Clean System, it probably isn't going to, which will indicate either that it's faulty and needs replacing, or it simply isn't compatible with Classic.
