Quick song-playing question

Thanks in advance!
Okay, so I'm wondering if there is a way to play an album start to finish while working/looking at other songs/albums - it seems like i have to have the album i'm trying to play in the main window while it's playing, otherwise it stops after each song. playlists don't stop every song, so why do albums?
Thanks again
Nick

Playing anything directly from the library will cause iTunes to stop playing if you're not looking at that part of the library anymore. If you want it to continue playing, you have to make a playlist and play that playlist. You can create quick playlists by selecting the songs in the playlist and then choosing File->New Playlist from Selection.

iPod touch lost in snow 2 mos, found yesterday songs played ok today charged fully but lost charge very quickly. What can I do to try to fix this myself before sending it in for repair?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • How to fix: Music corrupts when transferred to ipod. This happens with the same songs on multiple ipods and the song plays regularly in itunes...

Basically, I've already described the problem. Some songs play perfectly fine in itunes but the same songs corrupt when placed on different devices of varying age. Therefore, I don't think there's something wrong with the original file and I don't think there's something wrong with all of my devices. Why is this happening and how can I fix it?

    Hello there klundie,
I was researching the issue you are experiencing, and have come to the conclusion that the songs in question may need to be converted and re imported. This article, iTunes: How to convert a song to a different file format outlines how to re import songs that are already in your itunes library, which I believe will resolve the issue.
You can find the article here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1550
To convert a song's file format:
    Open iTunes Preferences.
    Windows: Choose Edit > Preferences.
    Mac: Choose iTunes > Preferences.
Click the General button, then click the Importing Settings button in the second section of the window.
From the Import Using pop-up menu, choose the encoding format that you want to convert the song to, then click OK to save the settings.
Select one or more songs in your library, then from the Advanced menu, choose one of the following (The menu item changes to show what's selected in your Importing preferences):
    Create MP3 version
    Create AAC version
    Create AIFF version
    Create WAV version
    Create Apple Lossless version
If you haven't imported some songs into iTunes yet, you can import and convert them at the same time. This will create a converted copy of the file in your iTunes Library based on your iTunes preferences. To convert all the songs in a folder or on a disk, hold down the Option key (Mac) or Shift key (Windows) and choose Advanced > ConvertImport preference setting. The Import preference setting will match what you chose in step 3. iTunes will prompt you for the location of the folder or disk you want to import and convert. All the songs in the folder or on the disk will be converted. Note: Some purchased songs are encoded using a protected AAC format that prevents them from being converted. iTunes Plus purchases are not protected and can be converted.
The song in its original format and the newly converted song appear in your library.
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • ITunes account doesn't show the song play count

My iTunes account stopped displaying my song play count.

    Hey DC71955,
Great question, it sounds like the "Plays" column is not selected. We simply need to turn it back on.
In iTunes 11, click the "View" menu and choose "Show View Options". Located under "Stats" is the "Plays" option.

  • Songs w/ questions marks, how to get rid of all them easily.

I have lots of songs that are somehow related to a previous libray. I have two copies of most songs, but, one copy has 'question' mark next to it when you attemp to play it, and it says it cannot locate original file, would I like to locate it. I just want to know how to easily delete/remove all the songs with questions marks.

I wouldn't call this an easy answer- but there's a method to my madness. Hear me out.
In your Music library, go to File > Show Duplicates. Sort by Song Name. You can select each one with the exclamation point next to it by holding down your Command key and clicking each one. When you've selected them all, hit Delete, and you're set. If you have selected all the right ones, it will NOT ask you if you want to move the files to the Trash.
The reason this is preferable to some other method is that your missing song might contain metadata that your newer songs do not- like rating, grouping, genre, etc. If you Show Duplicates and have your important view options chosen, you can make sure you transfer all the right info from the old song to the new one.
It's not elegant, but it works.

  • Incomplete song play:  Do replacement iPods do better?

I've had my iPod for less than two months. From the beginning I've had the problem of some songs not playing completely. If a particular song ends early, it will always end at the same point. For some songs they play for a few seconds or several seconds and then the iPod begins to play the next track in the list. For other songs they will play until near the end before jumping to the next track. Others terminate somewhere in the middle of what should play.
When songs "skip," if I go back to the song and scrub a significant amount past the point where it abruptly ends, the remainder of the song will play, indicating that most of, if not all of, the song file is present on the drive. For example, one song that abruptly ended yesterday lasts 5:16, but after 1:25 the iPod ends the song and plays the next track. I scrubbed to 1:30, and the iPod began playing the next track. But after I went back and scrubbed further, to 2:00, the remainder of the song played -- all of the way to 5:16.
I thought the problem was related to disk fragmentation, but no one seems to acknowledge that possibility. Optimizing my music storage drive and restoring the iPod seems to help most of the songs that once skipped, but then I continue to encounter additional "incomplete" songs as I listen to more of my collection. Having the backlight always on makes no difference. Having Genius on or off makes no difference. I even tried converting my ID3 tags and restoring, but I'm still encountering songs which don't play completely, and it's maddening and frustrating. When I perform a restore, most of the songs that failed prior to the restore will play normally, but it's very inconvenient to go through the process -- especially when it won't work completely.
I've gone through the 5Rs and I've restored the iPod several times.
So my question is this: For those who've experienced this problem and received replacements from Apple, have you finally gotten a unit which did not have this issue? (I know that in some older posts, users have complained that they've gotten a replacement unit -- or sometimes more than one -- that still had the same problem.)
Even though my collection is relatively small (only 14 gb, 3300 songs), it's time-consuming to listen to the entire collection to try to identify songs to re-encode from the CD, and I don't want to waste any more time, in case I have to send in several units for replacement while my warranty is still good. Besides, there doesn't seem to be any guarantee that songs that once played fine won't eventually start skipping. Today I even had a song purchased from the iTunes Music Store end halfway through the song -- how do I replace that?
Apple used to make the premier portable digital music jukebox device. What happened?

    Here are my thoughts...
    *Skipping songs*
The iPod seems to fail to play all of the occasional track that iTunes, and indeed other PMPs, are happy to play. There is probably some minor technical error in the internal structure of the file which is normally ignored by other playback software but causes the Classic to bail out.
Some users have suggested that completely removing all id3 tags and then replacing the information is often a solution. This can be achieved in iTunes by selecting an affected track, right/option clicking and using the option Convert id3 tags > None. Since some files may mistakenly have more than one tag you may need to repeat this action. Once you have confirmed that no tag is present you can replace the tag information using Convert id3 tags > V2.3 (I believe it is recommended to avoid using V2.4).
Personally I've have found files for which this solution doesn't work. In this case the workaround is either to re-rip the tracks or get iTunes to re-encode the file, e.g. convert AAC to MP3 or vice versa and sync the newly encoded file to the iPod instead. Because transcoding will cause a loss of fidelity you should keep your original file so that if a future iPod firmware resolves this issue you can put your original file back onto the iPod.
    <hr>
With this in mind I think it's a firmware issue rather than somthing affecting your particular iPod alone. Therefore a replacement is most likely to have exactly the same issue with the same tracks. One thing you could try is to collect a couple of tracks that you know fail and ask a friend with an iPod to put them on theirs to see if the fault is consistent.
Whan I come across any problem tracks or spot an issue like missing artwork I use the select button on the iPod to go to the rating screen and give the track a rating of one. I then have a smart playlist in my iTunes that shows tracks with a rating of one so that I'm reminded of which tracks I need to fix.

  • Songs playing on one computer, but not on others.

I use my iPod on three different computers (Home/Work/brand new laptop). I recently upgraded my iPod from original 80gb to new Classic 160gb. Before I purchased my new iPod, I transferred my whole library (about 50gb)from my iPod onto my new laptop(using transfer software). Then when I purchased my new iPod I synced the whole library to the iPod. The problem is that when ever I connect my iPod to my work or home PC some songs have an exclamation mark next to them (and they don't play). So when I went to replace the "exclamation marked" songs from the laptop (where the whole library exist), I had NO exclamation marks. So my question is why do the songs play on one computer but not the others? Please help!

  • How do I stop songs playing twice?

Why are my songs playing twice?

I answered my own question just by fooling around. Play a song. When the album artwork appears (sometimes must tap "Now Playing" to get it). There are two double arrow icons under the playing time. The arrows to left are perpendicular to each other. If they are orange, songs will replay. Tap this arrow. When it turns white, replays will stop. I haven't really figured out what the criss-crossed arrows icon on the right is for yet. One person said this is covered in the manual but I'll be darned if I can find it anywhere.

  • Only partial or samples of the songs play

I recently purchased an album and only portions of the songs play.  It shows the length of each song, but it only plays snipets.  About the same about of time the samples are played when listening in the iTunes Store.  Any suggestions or ideas about what might be wrong and how I can correct it?

If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copies of the dodgy tracks and try redownloading fresh copies. For instructions, see the following document:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the items that are not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the items, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" links next to the items.

Ipod and Itunes can play selected songs. The some of the same selected songs on the Ipad 3 will not play.  Some songs that actually play skip around. Anyone else having this issue?

But for a few purchased songs, only 30 seconds of the song plays and for one song off an album, a pop comes up saying I need to authorized the computer, but I do this and it says it is authorized already. • Having a song play thru an entire site in iWeb 08 versus single page

I like the feature of being able to add a song to my iWeb 08 website.. but what doesn't work well is that the song is only on one page. When someone clicks on a subpage link the song stops.
Is there a way to have the song play thru the entire website no matter what page is surfed? And why not? That seems like a simple feature that all the other web programs have. If i edit the site in Dreamweaver and make that happen using frames... the site is no longer editable in iWeb.

    Hi James,
I'm sure we gonna have this solved...
I went through the process myself and tried it on my .Mac trial account (fortunately I have a trial account!)...
    http://web.mac.com/whateveridontcare/Welcome/Music.html
It works for me... The only thing that might happen is that the music needs some time to start (you can see that in the time progress bar of the player (there's a brighter thing that shows it is loading)
    Question:
    1. Did you put the music into this location?
For .Mac go to the Finder menu and select Go/iDisk/My iDisk/ or hit SchiftCommand(Apple)i and then go to /Web/Sites/. Drop your file into the "Sites" folder or create a folder you call 'Music'
Entering: http://web.mac.com/username/filename.mp3 or http://web.mac.com/username/Music/filename.mp3 in your browser should bring up this file.
    2. Sure you published the page? I don't think the problem lies in the code of the player if the url isn't working. Seems like it isn't up. Sure you put the right URL here?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try deleting the problematic file (electing to remove original file if/when prompted) and then re-downloading the file from the iTunes store.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option from the Quick Links section in the top right corner of the iTunes homepage in your iTunes application on your computer.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option at the bottom of the screen of the iTunes app (or video app) on your iOS device.
If the problem re-occurs, select the content which is causing a problem and use the 'Report a problem' button in Your Purchase History using your computer.
