Quick style changes by using Paint Brush equivalent

In MS word there is a feature that I love and use a lot. It's called paintbrush and it lives in the toolbar of the document.
How it is used:
1. Put your pointer inside some text whose style you want to copy
2. Click on the paintbrush in the toolbar
3. Select the text that you want to change the style so that it matched the text where your pointer was.
and like magic the selected text takes on the same style as the text in step one.
I cannot figure out how to do this in Pages. I looked at the tip for "copying styles" but that feature does not seem to work for me. Any help?
Thanks

If you want it to work for more than one click, double-click the paintbrush icon instead of clicking it. It will then remain active until you click the icon again. That much I have figured out.
What I don't get is how it decides, for example, which character styles to copy when you select a whole paragraph with mixed character styles. From a perspective of "what would be useful," I'd expect it to not copy any character styles, because it should be obvious that the user is interested only in the paragraph formatting. Instead, it arbitrarily chooses one, for example bold if there is one word in bold in the entire paragraph, and applies it to the paragraph you select to apply the paragraph formatting to, obliterating any character formatting it may have already contained. Not only do I fail to see the usefulness of that, but I simply can't follow the logic: "the model paragraph has one word in bold; therefore the user must want every word in bold in every target paragraph, regardless of any character formatting already applied"????
It never ceases to amaze me how Microsoft can occasionally come up with a halfway decent idea for a feature, and then completely ruin it in the implementation. Something is seriously wrong with their design-development process, because I'm sure the person who came up with the idea (or appropriated it from another software company) couldn't have envisioned it working this way.

For the sake of clarity and to save people time, Todd is asking about the behaviour of the Patch tool when using it to repair the area next to the young lad's head.  Todd gets a blurred dark tone pretty much regardless of the options he uses.
IMO that's what I would expect to happen because of the close proximity of the other image elements i.e. the lad's neck and the strong lines of his shirt.  I would not choose to use the Patch tool in this situation.  Content Aware Fill makes a better stab at it.

  • Paint brush and eraser blink in vista

In windows vista when I try to use paint brush or erasor
tool, it blinks and have no control and takes ages to paint. It is
brand new pc with intel core2 Duo 2.4 ghz with 4 gb of ddr2 memory.
Has anyone else experienced the same?

That god for that!! I’ve had this problem for weeks and
it’s been driving me insane, it actually made me laugh. I
switched to Windows Basic and the appearance is negligible and
fireworks now works like a treat. I find it amusing that Microsoft
think its worth while using a huge chunk of system resources just
so you get a transparency effect on your windows and set the
    feature as default. Genius!
    So cheers for the tip!

Creating that blur using my brush. When I paint the area, which highlights in red, I bring the clarity down to create more of that blur but what ends up happening is that my entire image changes too and becomes blurry. Not only that but the area I painted also becomes over exposed. What can I do am I missing something here all I want is to blur a section and not change the rest of the area I am painted by automatically becoming over exposed. Does anyone else have this problem that can help me?

Do you think I should try to find a cheap mobo to OC my current CPU?  How about trying to find one (mobo) used?  I fear that my only realistic choice will be to scrap the CPU and eventually buy a new mobo and CPU, but as the CPU was only released just under two years ago I would value being over to overclock it with a cheap enough mobo to last me another year or so.
Who knows what additional problems may be run into by switching mainboards & such. The OS would have to be reinstalled fresh, etc. Money wise, it wouldn't make a lot of sense to invest more into a system that is rather outdated. The small performance gain making the switch to another board using the CPU you have, just doesn't really make much sense, especially if what you have now is completing the tasks asked of it. Save up some money, set it aside for a future build. There are plenty of new platforms in the works.

  • How do I use the brush to paint in latest version of Photoshop CC ?  I have a MAC with OS 10.10.2

How do I use the brush to paint in latest version of Photoshop CC ?  I have a MAC with OS 10.10.2.
I clicked the brush tool, then clicked on color swatch that brought me to the colors and clicked OL... but not able to get the color I need.

Well if I follow him, he creates an Exposure Adjustment Layer.
Then he cranks up the Exposure, lightening the entire body, which he does not want. It's only the head.
So leaving the Exposure set to where he put it, he selects that adjustment layer, clicks on that white thumbnail mask first, then paints
using the brush and black. What this does is "hides" or Masks the exposure effect where he paints, it doesn't paint the picture black.
He finds having to "mask" the entire body a lot of work. So he changes the mask to black by inverting it, and changes the swatch to white.
Then being sure the black mask thumbnail is selected, he paints the head with the white color, punching a hole in the mask so the exposure setting comes through on the face.
    Does that make sense?

  • Lost use of the paint brush.  Can anyone tell me how to get it back?

My student can't seem to get the paint brush to work.  We closed the document, didn't save, opened a new one but nothing was different.  We seem to be stuck in some setting that won't allow her to paint.  I deselected everything, zoomed in, changed the size of the template, nothing helped.  I'd like to get her back working again in the morning if anyone can offer a suggestion.  Thanks.

Paint Tool not selected? If you're looking at the set of tools on the left, tap and hold the currently-active tool at the top then swipe down to the 4th set of tools. Here, you have the Paint Tool, Effects Paint Tool and the Spray Tool. Just swipe on over to the tool you need (Paint Tool in this case) and release.

I have created a form that contains fields with default text for a user to update/personalize.  Is there a way to style the text so I can quickly identify changes to default text in a field?

George - Thanks you so much!  Actually, i'd love for the text color to be red font color.  Could you send me the script for that? And I assume I just copy and paste the script into the field properties (see screenshot)?

  • I have just downloaded Yosemite but I find that Photoshop Elements 11 does not work properly. If I use a tool like a paint brush or spot healer I cannot paint a full stroke?

I have just downloaded Yosemite but I find that Photoshop Elements 11 does not work properly. If I use a tool like a paint brush or spot healer I cannot paint a full stroke does anyone else have this issue or know a solution?

Many thanks that does work. But it now leads to another question is this simply a trackpad issue and if so will it be fixed? I use Elements every day and was thinking I would have to go back to Mavericks.

  • (Photoshop CS2) It crashes every time I use my brush tool for a long time. Help?

    Hi,
I have recently been having some trouble with my photoshop cs2 (it isn't my computer because it is easily quicker them the majority of computer I have been on and it's only a recent problem). I can use all my tools very easily without having any little pauses and it wont crash, but with my brush tool, after using the brush for a long stroke without unclicking it crashes. Well, it pauses for 2 mins- 4 hours (wont let me click on another tool or carry on drawing or select layers and such). Since I am an artist and work on photoshop for a living , not being able to use the brush tool is a huge problem for me. I have no intension of updating my software to cs3/4/5, (as I don't want to pay for all that software and then find that it crashes again). I recently got my new bamboo graphics tablet and it is even slower when using that. This is also a very recent problem so I was wondering if anyone else had had this before and found a way around it?
    Thanks!,
    -Lithia

I actually believe there are updates for Photoshop itself, not through Mac Software Update.  You should check if there are any updates for the product on this website.  Photoshop also tends to glitch sometimes.  For example, on PSCS4 for Mac, after opening the program, and changing the toolbar to the traditional 2-column style, the quck mask button is totally cut off unless I switch it to the 2-column style twice.

  • Paint Brush Locked

My paint brush tool seems to be locked. I can't change the stroke, style, or scale....??? Help please!!!

    Hi,
Looks like the 'Lock Fill' modifier is turned on in the Tool panel (available at the bottom of the panel when the Brush/Paint Bucket Tool is selected). Check if that is the culprit.
Also, have a look at http://animation.about.com/od/flashanimationtutorials/ss/gradtoolock.htm for more details on how to use that modifier
    Thanks!
ps: please mark this post as answered if this is of help to you.

  • How can I draw using the Brush tool and a touch screen?

I need to be able to use the touch screen on my Lenovo Yoga (running Windows 8) to draw using the Brush tool in Photoshop CS6. I'm able to do that in other programs, including Microsoft OneNote and Paint. For some reason, Photoshop will only interpret touching and dragging on the screen as an attempt to pan or scroll, even when the Brush tool is selected. I bought Photoshop - and it isn't cheap - specifically in order to draw using the touch screen, which I need to be able to do for my job. Is there some driver I can download to fix this problem, or some obscure setting I can change?
I would also like to note that Adobe's technical support line exhibits a degree of infuriating unreachability equalled only by the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles. When I called to ask for help with this problem, I was told the expected wait time was between 10 and 14 minutes. After waiting for 50 minutes, I gave up in disgust. Adobe's products are powerful, but what passes for customer service is an utter disgrace.

There's gotta be a way but I just use gimp for touch drawing, save it off as a png, edit in ps or ai.

  • I pick a photo, make a copy, add a mask and when I use a brush nothing happens to the mask or the picture. White or black?

I pick a photo, make a copy, add a mask and when I use a brush nothing happens to the mask or the picture. White or black.

If I understand you correctly, you have
Opened an image, and copied the background layer.
Added a layer mask, and finding that painting in the mask makes no difference whether you paint with black or white.
That is what you would expect to happen if both layers are identical.  To demonstrate, make a change to the copied layer.  Either change the blend mode to Multiply, or lower the opacity, or paint big red stripes across it.  Now when you paint with black, the red stripes will disappear where the mask is black, and be visible where the make is white.

  • Painting Brush Issue

Ok I've been painting an image in Cs4 for some time but I took a break from it for a few weeks and I just came back to it, The issue I'm having is the way my brush presets are acting towards my brushes. I was using a Charcoal Brush which when messing with the presets works similar to a real paint brush in terms of the way the bristles show. This is sort of hard to explain but I'll try. My brush when I was using it, had like a dry brush effect; you could the see individual bristles depending on how much I messed with the brush shape dynamics, it could be thick like a loaded brush or it could be thin like a dry brush whatever. Now though when I try and recreate the brush when I go to the shape dynamics its not acting the way it was before. The brush wont thin out it takes on a splatter effect when I move the scattering slider and size jitter that never happened before and I cant get it to stop. Before the way those sliders would effect the brush is it would spread out the bristles now they just add a splatter on them and I cant change it.
^^^^^ That image is the brush before I mess with the presets. Normally I'd spread out the bristles but when I try I get the effect on the image below.
I know this is a bad explanation but I really cant figure out what I'm doing wrong I've reset the brushes I don't know how many times same with the presets I've messed with the opacity and flow but nothing is working. I wonder is there anyone who has an Idea of how I can possibly fix this? It's a problem because I need that effect from the brush in order to match the rest of the painting, Any help or advice would be appreciated, and again sorry for the bad explanation.

Yea I've tried both Size Jitter adds a splatter on it so I already have it at 0 and Pen Pressure just rounds out the edges which I don't mind but neither really have to do with the effect from before. I've tried to mimic the way I had the brush before going in and erasing some. The way it's working now is the top stroke and the way I had it is the bottom. Before the strokes where more spaced out, result of messing with the presets now if I mess with the they add a splatter to them.
