Quick Time 7.1.6 problems

I can no longer view Flash movies within Safari after installing QT 7.1.6 update. I just get a "Q" with question mark. All is well with FireFox. I repaired permissions prior to and after installation. I did not run DiskWarrior since I just used it an hour or two before installing QT.
I also reinstalled Flash Player plugin but it didn't help.
Removing QuickTime Plugin.plugin from the "Internet plugins folder as suggested by MacFixit did the trick. I can now view Flash movies. However, I just attempted to access Apples seminars on line and I get the following error:
The page “Apple - Seminars Online - Capture, Create and Share Digital Media with QuickTime 7 Pro: 1” attempted to load an Internet plug-in named “QuickTime Plug-In 7.1.6”, but the plug-in failed to load successfully.
What now?

The advice from MacFixIt is wrong.
Without the plug-in you can't view QuickTime content
in any browser.
The "correct" fix:
System Preferences/QuickTime/Advanced tab
Click the MIME Settings button and navigate to
Miscellaneous - Miscellaneous file formats
Remove the check mark for Flash Media
Quit and relaunch your browser and try the Flash page
again.
thanks so much!! Now I can SEE more than that "? amd Q thing. What a ripoff.

PS Saved me another 6 hours of shlepping and fixing this NEW mac which I LOVE (D) and was going to flush down the loo.

  • Can't install Quick Time 7 - Error 1721 problems with windows installer

I had QT 6 PRO and an old version of itunes working fine. I tried to upgrade to Itunes 6. The install failed at the last step of installing QuickTime 7.04.
The error message was "Error 1721.There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor." So, no QT, therefore no Itunes.
    I did the following:
    cleared my temp directory.
made sure I had the latest windows installer (3.1 v2)
removed all traces of itunes and quick time, using Remove Programs, the windows cleanup Utility and manually deleting all files as listed in info article 93976.
I downloaded the standalone QuckTime 7.04 installer, tired to install and I still get the same error.
I now have no quick time 6 or 7 and no itunes, and I have no idea what is wrong with the installer.
I do have access to the install log, and am delighted to reprint it if it will help.
thanks for any help people can provide.

  • Updated to ITUNES 7 and current version of Quick Time  7.1.3 = Problem

I recently updated to ITUNES 7 and as a result QUICKTIME was also updated. Now every time I start up ITUNES Windows gives me that frustrating message that ITUNES has experience and error and Windows is shutting it down. The error seems to be with quick time. The message I see is quicktime.qts, Mod version 7.1.3.100 Ofset 0013d270
As a precursor to the traditional questions--yes my operating system is up to date with patches, etc.
Yes I have lots and lots of memory--4GB
Yes I have lots and lots of diskspace--273 GB
Does anyone have any recommendations on best course of action.

Okay, let's try getting a crash log for itunes and sending it to the Apple Engineers.
Typically, you'll need to configure Dr. Watson on your PC in order to generate crash logs. Windows start menu -> Run. Type in "cmd". Hit return. At the prompt in the command line window that comes up, type in
    drwtsn32 -i
    And hit return.
This will create crash logs in Documents And Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson\. There'll usually be a file in here called "drwtsn32.log"prior to collecting the itunes crash log, delete any existing crash logs in there. (we want to make sure we send the correct crash log.)
Launch itunes, collect the crash log, and send it to [email protected]
    In the email:
    (1) state the precise version number of itunes that you're using.
    (2) include the URL to this thread so that the person who gets the email has some context, but also give as much information about the context of the crashing as you can.
I sent off this morning and am awaiting a reply. As soon as I hear back I will update this posting.

  • Quick time 7.1.3 problem...help please...

I recently installed Quick time version 7.1.3...and iTunes 7 onto my computer. I have since tried to load a game that I recently purchased for my child (DK's Milo and the Magical Stones). It does not work. (The message that I get says "Director Player Error. Property not found. # duration") I e-mailed the manufacturer and they stated that I need to use the version of Quick time that is on the game disk (not quite sure which version it is since it will not allow me to load it). The old version will not load because it recognizes that I have a newer version of it on my computer. And if I could accomplish this...iTunes will work now without Quick time 7 now...so it is pointless. Help please! This must be happening to a lot of people I imagine...

  • Importing Quick Time file to FCE problem

I tried to import a quick time movie I had saved on a DVD from work and it would not import into FCE. It says "unknown file". But other quick time movies that are on my Mac import fine into FCE. Both my work Mac and home are almost identical-Power Mac g5. Why is this happening?

    Stephen
QuickTime comes in many shapes and sizes and not all work with FCE.
Files from a DVD are multiplexed.
They will need to be de-multiplexed before FCE can use them.

    Ski Farm,
I hope you are doing well today! The suggestion provided by altenbach is really good. Alternatively, you can also use a global variable and an event or case structure, to pause the execution of a VI. I have attached an example of a subVI, called by the mainVI, which displays the current iterative count of a while loop. Please let us know if you have any other questions. Have a great day!

  • Quick Time 7.3 has problem for HD

All my HD 720_59.94p with apple lossless audio could not works, it drop frames. I try both my tiger and leopard notebook, same problem. I went to different "Genius Bars", no answer!!! Please help, I could not do my presentation.

I agree. I use Mac OS X (10.4.11-intel) and Firefox and had Quicktime 7.3 installed and it worked. Then it didn't for no apparent reason that is obvious to me. I have just downloaded Quicktime Pro although it does not show up anywhere - only version 7.3 - AND still no pictures or sound. Preferences are all ok. I have always had difficulties with Quicktime and I wonder if it was made really for the pc world and not Macs. Anyone out there help us please?

  • Quick time 7 installs without any problems (Windows 7) but it won't at all... help please.

I've installed Quick Time 7 without any problems (Windows 7 - PC) but it won't run at all.  QuickTime Player or PictureViewer. I've uninstalled and reinstalled several times also selected "repair" from the uninstall menu. Their are no error messages when I try to run Quicktime. Any ideas?

Okay. It's not likely to be a display preference issue then.
We'd better check to see if some other application has stashed old versions of QuickTime componentry down in your system files. (Error-mesage-free launch failures can sometimes be a symptom of that.)
So we'll go looking for the older QuickTime componentry in the most common locations for it to be stashed.
First we'll need to change some view settings.
In your Start menu, open Computer.
In your Organise menu, select Folder Options.
In the View tab, make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected, and Hide extensions for known file types is unchecked.
    Click OK.
Now in Computer, open your C:\ drive (or whichever drive you have your operating system installed on).
    Open the "Windows" folder.
If you have a 32-bit version of Windows, open the "System32" folder.
If you have a 64-bit version of Windows, open the "SysWOW64" folder.
What files and folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the title? (In a standard installation of Quicktime you should be seeing precisely two files ... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

  • ITunes won't open because it has an issue w/ Quick Time...

I went to use my new iPod Shuffle, and I got the above error message. I tried to uninstall and re-install quick-time, as recommended, but each time I do, it claims that an instillation of quick-time is already running. It goes on to say that I should complete that instillation before staring another one. The thing of it is, I installed both iTunes and quick-time a looooooooooooooooong time ago.
So here I am stuck, unable to remove/un-install quick-time, and so I also can't re-install it, or open iTunes, or use my new iPod. The only thing that I can think of is to tyr and remove itunes as well, the re-install them both. I am loathe to do this however, as I don't want the added headache of having to re-create my entire library after the fact...

Sadly no... In point of fact, it seems that quicktime may not be the only culprit at work here. I tred method 1, 3, 4, & 5. I was able to finally remove the QT Systems folder, which contained the last vestiges of the old quick time program. The problem that remais, is even in trying to un-register then re-register the installer is the same for un & re-installing quick time. Apparently there is a program that is STILL in the process of being installed. It may have not been a duplicate, unfinished copy of quick time but of some other program instead. When I tried to un-register the installer, at first I got an 'unspecified error'. Then I got the 'an instillation is in progress, you must finish it before starting another one, etc, etc....' I think that I may have to either have someone try 'Method 11' instead, as it is Waaaaaaaaay beyond my limited abilities. That, or I may have to do a total system restore (after backing up all those lovely modifications and tweaks that I've made over the last 6 or 7 years, groan.... Either way it's gonna be a headache. Why is it that the windows installer doesn't allow teh user to monitor progress of any installs, and get rid of a stalled operation that's clogging the system? headdesk

  • Quick Time (Mountain Lion) won't play .AVI files.

Since all of you probably already know the information I typed in the headtitle, I have a question. So obviously .avi files can not be played on this version of Quick Time that comes with Mountain Lion, but, would buying a Quick Time Pro solve my problem? I'm ready to pay 30$ for the program, but first I'd like to know would it enable me to play .avi and all sorts of other video files? Ofcourse I read it does play all sorts of files including .avi, but I'd like to hear it from somebody who actually uses Quick Time Pro on Mountain Lion. Thanks for your help in advance!
    Dino Sertovic
P.S. I already have tried VLC, I use it but that's not the solution I'm asking for. Nor that, nor other programs such as MplayerX. I'm interested only in Quick Time while it never breaks, deinterlaces my footy nice and is very simple and user friendly.

You don't need to buy Quick Time Pro.  Quick Time Pro is just a paid add-on to add features to QuickTime Player 7.  You don't need the Pro features for just playing.  The player in your Applications folder is Quick Time X.  QuickTime Player 7 should be in your Utilities folder (which is inside yoir Aplicatioins folder).  If it's not there, download it from:
    <http://support.apple.com/kb/DL923>
QuickTime Player 7 will play .AVI files if you install Perian
    <http://perian.org>
then replace its A52 codec component

  • Quick time Player has encountered a problem and needs to close

    Hello,
I am getting this message and it is driving me bonkers!
"quick time Player has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience".
Am running XP. Have uninstalled all Apple programs (QT, iTunes, update, bonjour, etc and in the order Apple recommends.) I re-installed QuickTime again.
    Same Problem.
Went to the control panel and launched the quicktime control panel.
QuickTime Preferences comes up. If i choose the "files type" tab this error comes up in a window:
    RUNDLL
An exception occurred while trying to run "C:\WINDOWS\system32\shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTSystem\QuickTime.cpl",QuickTime"
Clicking on this just closes the window.
Some one on another post mentioned something about another codex takinhg the place of an original. How do I find if this is causing it if only to shut down that avenue of conceren?
This has taken up SOOO much time I can't tell you and I can't use my iPhone or iTouch until I get it sorted.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Good work, craigeed. That's enough information (of precisely the right type) to suggest that you don't have a codec pack issue. If you had a codec pack problem, usually you'd get a rundll error if you just tried to open the control panel (and you're getting further in than that). Also, the rundll error for a codec pack problem would indicate that your QuickTime.cpl is lurking in the wrong place (down in the \system32\ directory). Your message is showing that your QuickTime.cpl is in precisely the correct location.
So we'd better start checking on some other possibilities.
The "QuickTime has encountered an error" message is pretty generic, but on at least some versions of QuickTime 7.x it has suggested malware problems. So we'd better try getting that off the table.
Download fresh definitions and run vigorous virus and antispyware scans. If your security software providers offer them, try backing that up with an online virus scan. (That can sometimes pick up an infection even if the security software on the PC has been compromised.)
Do the scans show up any problems? If so, does fixing them help with the QuickTime error?

  • I am having problems exporting my time lapses from quick time pro i need to save my files as photo jpegs but the standard video compression window will not open fully,

i am having problems exporting my time lapses from quick time pro i need to save my files as photo jpegs but the standard video compression window will not open fully, it just keeps my mac (old 1.6Ghz 2.5 GB sdram G5 still good for most stuff i need) spinning for ever but i can see compression type H.264 selected and the other setting but i can not select any other options as it still thinking but never opens! why is this happening how do i get round it?
my work flow is: 300 images shot on a 5d mark II medium jpegs opened in Light Room cropped to 16:9 then exported and opened in quick time i can save a .mov H264 giving me files sizes of 14 mb for a 16 second time lapse, mp4 9 mb. the only way i can get large files is saving as a self contained movie then i get 300mb files.
i need to save my files 1920 x 1080 photo jpeg codec as i want HD quality.
i am sure there is a simple way round this?
    thanks guys!
