Quick time audio, and ac3 filter

I recently downloaded some video clips, the video played well in Quicktime but there was no sound; one message from QT said ac3 audio isn't supported since it' no good I (QTpro) will dump the audio.
Hm....it came with High-Definition video clips.
A friend told me to go to
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/27300
-there I got MacOSX4 compatible software: the ac3 audio plugin, as well as instructions on which folders I should copy the software into, in OSX4.
Now my clips plays beautifully WITH sound- except if I try to merge 2 clips using QTpro-then the sound disappears-thanks to lackings in QTpro.
My questions: 1) What's with that arrogant "is no good" message about ac3 audio? No QT audio was ever better....
2)When does Apple pull itself together and provide full ac3 sound support in QT??
Mac mini   Mac OS X (10.4.8)
Mac mini   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

1) What's with that arrogant "is no good" message about ac3 audio? No QT audio was ever better....
Have never seen such a message. If I attempt to open an AC3 audio file (without AC3 codec installed), I simply get a modal error message saying the file could not be opened. If I open a video file with an AC3 audio track, I am simply notified there is a missing component. Could you describe how you get this message?
2)When does Apple pull itself together and provide full ac3 sound support in QT??
Am hoping that Apple will be addressing the problem the first quarter of next year with the release of the "iTV" device. Seems like it would be a real waste to have a Toslink optical connector and not be able to connect AC3 to your A/V Dolby Digital decoder. Don't even care if the add any AC3 support. All I want them to do is add the pass through (encoded output) capability to QT/iTunes just as they have to their DVD Player or as VLC has had in their media player for some time now.
Now my clips plays beautifully WITH sound- except if I try to merge 2 clips using QTpro-then the sound disappears-thanks to lackings in QTpro.
Muxed MPEG-2 files are only MPEG-1 Layer-1/Layer-2 audio supported. If you want, you can use MPEG Streamclip (free) to convert files like decrypted/unencrypted VOBs directly to MPEG-2 with MP2. Files are simply de-muxed and the AC3 mixed down to stereo (default setting), converted to MP2 and muxed back with the original MPEG-2 with no loss in video quality. Files play fine with audio in QT Player with MPEG-2 component installed.

  • Why do I need Quick time 7 and Quicktime 10 ?

I have just migrated from iMac5 (2.16 GHz) Mac OS 10.4.11 Quicktime 7.6.4 to a new imac 3.06 Mac OS 10.6.2 Quicktime 10.0.
Some of my quicktime files play ok but others prompt me to download quicktime version 7. Why do I need to do this ? (There seem to be a lot of problems with this looking at the forums). All the files play on the old mac. Why isn't Quicktime forward compatible or why is there no import facility so that you can make your old files compatible ?
Or am I missing something ?

Some of my quicktime files play ok but others prompt me to download quicktime version 7. Why do I need to do this ?
Because your system thinks you are missing specific codecs required for the playback of certain compression formats. In some cases this may be an installation problem in which the codec was "lost" or "orphaned" during the update process. In others it may be a need to update the component to work properly under the dual QT X/7 framework installed under the Snow Leopard OS. You need to check the Inspector/Finder Info or similar window to determine what specific codec is causing the problem and then re-install or update that specific codec/component/package.
(There seem to be a lot of problems with this looking at the forums).
Most of the problems are "self-inflicted" by individuals who, rather than studying the problem symptoms, analyzing them to determine their cause, and then fixing the problems, elect to immediately delete and re-install software -- often attempting to mix components from different operating systems and/or update versions of the software in their haste.
All the files play on the old mac. Why isn't Quicktime forward compatible or why is there no import facility so that you can make your old files compatible?
I am running both Leopard and Snow Leopard variations of QT v7.6.6 and all of my "old" files have remained compatible -- to include MPEG-2 video and a limited number of third-party supported compression formats. Since my configurations continue to work properly, my first guess is that you have an unresolved configuration problem or inability for your QT X 64-bit routines to communicate/switch properly with the 32-bit routines as required for your content.
Why do I need Quick time 7 and Quicktime 10?
Technically, you probably don't. However, as an old QT 7 Pro user who likes many of the QT 7 Player controls/options/features better than QT X's new but more basic features, I maintain both in active service and tend to use QT 7 as the default player of most of my work flows. Still, this is up to the individual. I am in no hurry to rush the changeover from an older but still more reliable QT technology to a more modern, but as yet, less mature and well tested "new" QT technology. In short, I feel it best to make the most of both dispensations during the development of this "new" version of QT.

In the optional install items-Quick Time is not an option. I am on Leopard.
    Then you either:
    1) never had QT X installed and could not have deleted it since QT X is only installed on Snow Leopard (OS X v10.6), Lion (OS X v10.7), and Mountain Lion (OS X v10.8) systems or...
    2) you are actually running Snow Leopard (OS X v10.6) and not Leopard (OS X v10.5) as you just stated.
Please confirm which statment is actually correct.

Trying to watch a video on quick time player and i keep getting this message You may need to install additional software to open this type of file. what do i need to install and how

I believe there is a technique which uses some similar suggestion to unwittingly tempt the user into installing malware, in order to be able to watch some (usually sexually explicit) video, so be aware of this ruse.
The only things I would download would be Perian that extends Quicktime, available here,
    http://www.perian.org/
and if that did not do it, then try VLC to use instead of Quicktime.

  • Quick Time Audio

I have Quick Time Version 7.6.9.  I have been given an audio flashdrive to transcribe to text.  How is this done?  The easiest way?
If you are referring to simply listening to the audio and a transcribing the text to a text editor and do not own a transcription console, then play the file(s) in the QT or other compatible player and type the text into a convenient text editor. (A transcription console usually consists of a tape or tapeless playback console with integrated looping capability normally controlled by a foot operated pedal that allows you to switch between playback and loop modes. These can be very expensive.)
If you are referring to the creation of a QT text display file and have dedicated software for the creation of such files, then use it as the "easiest" way to create your file. If not, then you would have to use QT 7 Pro and do everything manually as follows:
    1) Create some dummy text in a text editor like TextEdit and save it as a Plain Text file.
    2) Open the TXT file in QT 7 and select the "Export > Yexy to Text" option.
    3) Open the "Options" window and ensure the "Show Text, Discriptors, and Time", "Show time relative to the start of: Movie", and "Show fractions of a second as: 1/1000" options are selected.
    4) Click "Ok" and save the file replacing the original file. (You may wish to save or duplicate a copy of this file as a starting point for any future text files.)
    5) Reopen the QT 7 saved version of the text file in your text editor and modify the default "Font, style, text color, background color, justification, dimensions of text display area, language ID as may be desired for global use.
    6) Listen to/note audio text to be entered and then enter display timing for start of text display followed by the text box origin/size and actual text to be displayed (as per the dummy text already in the file).
    7) Repeat step 6 for every text entry you wish displayed.
    8) When done, enter the display timing entry for the end of the file. (I.e., the final text will display from its start time to the end of the file time.)
    Good Luck.

  • Accidentally took off quick time player and Itunes wont open now

so I have a pentium 3 windows 2000 IBM laptop
    terrible i know
i was trying to get more memory onto my computer by deleting programs i didnt need and a supposed "computer wiz" told me that i didnt need quick time player to run Itunes.
so i took it off and now Itunes wont even open. a message pops up saying that i need to reinstall Itunes
because i have such an old computer (and buying a new one isnt an option right now) the newest version of quick time player isnt compatible with my computer
i tried downloading an older version of quicktime and that hasnt worked either
so my fear is that if i unistall and then reinstall Itunes that
    a) i will lose all my music
    and
    b) there wont be a version of Itunes i can download since i have such an old computer
    any ideas or suggests?

Uninstalling the iTunes program should not affect your music folder however to be sure nothing goes wrong you should backup you music before starting. You might also want to have a look at this page, it refers to XP but you should be able to adapt it to 2000: Removing iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components
You can get the highest version of iTunes that will work with Windows 2000 at this link: iTunes 7.3.2 for Windows 2000

I purchased Quick Time Pro for Windows 7 and then lost it when my computer crashed.  I have recovered the product key from my Apple account but I can't figure out how to use the key to recover my product.  It just keeps asking me to buy the program again.

  • I just installed Quick Time 7 and all-**** broke loose!

I took someone’s advice and I went to the apple website and d-loaded the latest version of QuickTime (Quick Time 7, http://www.apple.com/quicktime/ ) which in doing so, I now can’t play any of my HD MOV format recordings! This is so frustrating. The message I am receiving is that I need the older version of Quick Time to play my specific video, or that the plug-in failed to initialize, which sounds crazy! I already un-installed quick time and installed it again, and still not working…sigh…. What makes it even more frustrating is that when I open quick time 7, I can import/load one of my HD MOV loops and it plays it perfectly, but it will not let me save the file as an avi or other format, because I don’t own quick time pro. I don’t understand this, why won’t this latest version of Quick Time recognize the mov file? My older version worked fine. I can play it in quick time so why won’t this latest version recognize it on my desktop as a compatible quick time file? Why do I have to manually load it in quick time to play it?
In addition, what is the solution for the annoying error message I keep receiving every time I open the new version of Quick Time 7. The error message is “Export Controller Has Stopped Working.” I feel like a knob and after 2 hours of trial and error, I failed!

Double check and make sure you have administrative priviledge in MS Vista. I also had this problem of not being able to use Nero ShowTime or Vision. I believe it to apples way of killing the competition. What I suggest you do (if you don not have pro version) is to remove the QuickTime from the system, but make sure the protectionware (antivirus/malware tools) are disabled temporarily before you do. Then restart the system and open registry editor and search down all inferences to QuickTime in the registry, and delete them. Most are keys but some will be Values (in the right side). Open these values and backspace to remove them. For preferred delete the whole key.
Once you do this you will restore your players or editors to working state. The only thing that will change you will not be able to play QuickTime filetypes.

  • Quick Time error and unable to open ITunes

I updated my ITunes and now cannot open it. Message is Quick Time version 7.02 is installed. Itunes requires vs 7.0.3 or later. Reinstall Itunes. I did several times and still get this message.
    thanks.

    Hey Peggy,
This is a post that I offered yesterday. The steps that I listed in the following post worked for me as I was able to access iTunes6 with QuickTime7. More importantly, my entire library was intact. Good luck! Here goes ...
    Hey troubled Podheads,
I was one of the legion with problems in downloading iTunes6 and QT7 for Windows until I tried something (I must say that I am not a pc wizard and I don't know the technical reasons for why the following worked, it just did! So if there are any pc geeks out there, be sure to chime in). Anyway, this is what I did. First uninstall QuickTime if you do have it on your pc. If not, just go to the next step:
Go to START, then RUN. Type in regedit and then click OK. Your REGISTRY EDITOR should open. You should see HKEYLOCALMACHINE in the scroll down menu on the left, with a small box to its left. Make sure that the inside of the box has a negative sign - this will open up the next set of subfolders. Next, make sure that the subfolder, SOFTWARE, has a negative sign in the small box to its left. Next, make sure that there is a negative sign in the box next to the subfolder entitled, Apple Computer, Inc. You'll see at least three subfolders: iPod, iTunes and QuickTime. Click once on the QuickTime folder until it is highlighted and then delete it. You will be asked if you want to delete QuickTime and its subfolders. Click ok and then close out the Registry Editor.
Next, download the stand alone QuickTime 7 at this link (you may have to cut and paste this link to open this website):
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html
When you download the stand alone QT7, you may get a couple of error messages (I did), but if you repeatedly click ok (like I did), the QT7 player should load with no problems.
Again, I am no pc geek, but this worked for me and I have gained access to iTunes6 (with video capacity) and my complete library is intact. Nothing like trial and error!! Good luck -- I hope this works for all of you frustrated Podheads out there!

  • Quick Time Player and Apple TV

I have a AVI file from my Olympus camera that plays on my Quick Time Player on my iMac. How does one get the file to Apple TV to play?

there are many third party apps that will do it.
also, if you are able to get the video into itunes as it currently is, then you can right click on it and choose "create appletv version".

  • Quick Time 7 and Quick Time Pro Functionality Issue

I purchased Quick Time Pro a few years ago when Quick Time was another version. Quick Time is needed for Premiere Elements. With the current  Quick Time 7 comes an issue: my Quick Time Pro will not function in Quick Time 7 because the Quick Time Pro I only functions in earlier Quick Time versions. I either have to purchase a new Quick Time Pro product key to run in Quick Time 7 or run an earlier version of Quick Time to have my current Quick Time Pro function properly. Does anyone else have this issue?

I have not. Historically, the Pro unlock will work for all versions in a series, i.e. Pro version 6 will work in all versions in the 6 series. I got my Pro version 7 at about 7.2.x, and it has worked fine with all through version 7.5.5, where I am now. The current version is 7.6.6, and I have heard of no issues with a Pro version 7 unlock not working in any versions later than my 7.5.5.
Seems strange, but then maybe Apple has departed from history?
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Quick Time (Audio Preferences) fails to launch with buffer overrun error

It all started a few weeks ago, after installing itunes7.0 for windows, and itunes began to annoy me (indeed drive me mad) with an error message :
"an unhandled win32 exception has occured in itunes.exe [3840]" at startup / closing immediately afterwards.
After numerous uninstall/reinstall/clean the registry/system restore attempts I managed to solve the issue-- BUT only for a few days..It failed again and so I went through the itunes support forums even found an entry
"iTunes 7 for Windows: iTunes fails to launch with an unknown error"
which suggests that my issue could be solved by :
"Open the QuickTime control panel and select the Audio tab.
In the Devices section de-select the Safe mode (waveOut only) option and click Apply."
But to my surprise, when i selected the Audio tab (and the Audio tab ONLY ) it presented me a "buffer overrun error" which indicated that the internal state of the program has been corrupt and it would be shutting down now..
    It's such a nuisance..!!
Please, help, and your help will be deeply appreciated... !
I have tried to revert to the older version and it didn't work..

let's try swapping out your existing QuickTime one more time. we'll take a few additional explicit precautions this time.
head into your Add/Remove programs. uninstall QuickTime.
Next, we’ll manually remove any leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
    7. Restart your computer.
next, we'll get a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC by doing a repair install of itunes.
switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.
go into Add/Remove and select itunes. click "Change" and then click "Repair".
if the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching itunes again. does it launch properly now?
