Quick Time compression?

Anyone know a good way to compress .mov files? I have a 76 mb file that I want to autostart when the page loads but it needs to be smaller.

You can run it through QuickTime Pro if you have it and really mess with different settings. Or you can try a shareware alternative called "iSquint". It is intended for converting video to iPod, so you know it will be good at shrinking video sizes. But it's also pretty good and fast at converting QT movies to web-friendly MPEG-4 with or without H.264.
As far as the autostart feature goes, you will have to edit the .js file for your page and change the "autostart" value from false to true.

  • Restoring edit details after Quick time compression

How do I exit an i-movie editing session without loosing the details of those edits?
When logging off I am required to share the movie via Quick time in order to store it for the next editing session..[I think,..]. When I return to continue working my "saved" film opens in i-tunes, and once imported back into i-movie, consists of only one event and one clip. How do I retain a "work in progress" status so that all of the many assembled clips maintain their editability? [SP!..is that a word?] If this is impossible, please let me know so that I can stop suffering under the misconception of continuing where I'd left off.

How do I exit an i-movie editing session without loosing the details of those edits?
Most people simply close the application. (The current status of the project in progress is automatically saved.)
When logging off I am required to share the movie via Quick time in order to store it for the next editing session.
As far as I know, you are the only person "required" to share his or her project in order to quit the application. Sharing or exporting is what you do with your competed project.
How do I retain a "work in progress" status so that all of the many assembled clips maintain their editability?
Most people simply open the application when they wish to begin a new work session and continue from where they left off. What you are doing is continuing to edit as a new project using the previously "completed" project as your new "source" content.

  • I am having problems exporting my time lapses from quick time pro i need to save my files as photo jpegs but the standard video compression window will not open fully,

i am having problems exporting my time lapses from quick time pro i need to save my files as photo jpegs but the standard video compression window will not open fully, it just keeps my mac (old 1.6Ghz 2.5 GB sdram G5 still good for most stuff i need) spinning for ever but i can see compression type H.264 selected and the other setting but i can not select any other options as it still thinking but never opens! why is this happening how do i get round it?
my work flow is: 300 images shot on a 5d mark II medium jpegs opened in Light Room cropped to 16:9 then exported and opened in quick time i can save a .mov H264 giving me files sizes of 14 mb for a 16 second time lapse, mp4 9 mb. the only way i can get large files is saving as a self contained movie then i get 300mb files.
i need to save my files 1920 x 1080 photo jpeg codec as i want HD quality.
i am sure there is a simple way round this?
    thanks guys!

  • Problem with quick time player or is it normal ?

Hello, I want to know why, since the transition to OS X Mavericks I need to convert all videos to AVI format instead of being able to look directly as before with OS X Mountain Lion I converted the Quick Time MOV format which takes up much more space on the HDD I have another drive where I can read directly, but I want to know why I need to convert with QuickTime
    Thanks

I want to know why, since the transition to OS X Mavericks I need to convert all videos to AVI format instead of being able to look directly as before with OS X Mountain Lion I converted the Quick Time MOV format which takes up much more space on the HDD I have another drive where I can read directly, but I want to know why I need to convert with QuickTime
To answer your topic title question, if QT X v10.3 is converting your files to AVI, then that would not be normal. In most cases it is the other way around. That is, QT X v10.3 converts most forms of AVI content to QT compatible compression formats in MOV file containers. While QT X v10.3 still recognizes the AVI container, on a few compression formats (like Motion JPEG video and various PCM formats) will play natively without conversion under the Mavericks' AV Foundation.
Basically, QT X under mavericks looks at the file container and the codecs it contains and, if the AV Foundation recognizes them but does not consider the combination compatible, begins an automatic conversion depending on programming specifics. In some cases only the audio or video data will trigger the conversion process and be conveerted and merely "pass through" another compression format while in other files both the audio and the video will both be converted. Unfortunately, even some of the codecs normally native to the Mac OS are also no longer supported. For instance, Mavericks now includes an Apple ProRes 422 codec component which appears to have replaced the Apple Intermediat Codec as the default "incermediate" compression format fore file editing. Mavericks also does not seem to support the Animation, PNG, or DV stream video codecs any longer.
If you don't like the way QT X v10.3 works, you have two basic options. The first to to use a different media player (e.g., QT 7, VLC, MPlayerX, MPEG Streamclip, etc.) to view your content or you can opt to manually convert your content to a compression format and container that remains QT X player compatible under Mavericks.

  • Why do I need Quick time 7 and Quicktime 10 ?

I have just migrated from iMac5 (2.16 GHz) Mac OS 10.4.11 Quicktime 7.6.4 to a new imac 3.06 Mac OS 10.6.2 Quicktime 10.0.
Some of my quicktime files play ok but others prompt me to download quicktime version 7. Why do I need to do this ? (There seem to be a lot of problems with this looking at the forums). All the files play on the old mac. Why isn't Quicktime forward compatible or why is there no import facility so that you can make your old files compatible ?
Or am I missing something ?

Some of my quicktime files play ok but others prompt me to download quicktime version 7. Why do I need to do this ?
Because your system thinks you are missing specific codecs required for the playback of certain compression formats. In some cases this may be an installation problem in which the codec was "lost" or "orphaned" during the update process. In others it may be a need to update the component to work properly under the dual QT X/7 framework installed under the Snow Leopard OS. You need to check the Inspector/Finder Info or similar window to determine what specific codec is causing the problem and then re-install or update that specific codec/component/package.
(There seem to be a lot of problems with this looking at the forums).
Most of the problems are "self-inflicted" by individuals who, rather than studying the problem symptoms, analyzing them to determine their cause, and then fixing the problems, elect to immediately delete and re-install software -- often attempting to mix components from different operating systems and/or update versions of the software in their haste.
All the files play on the old mac. Why isn't Quicktime forward compatible or why is there no import facility so that you can make your old files compatible?
I am running both Leopard and Snow Leopard variations of QT v7.6.6 and all of my "old" files have remained compatible -- to include MPEG-2 video and a limited number of third-party supported compression formats. Since my configurations continue to work properly, my first guess is that you have an unresolved configuration problem or inability for your QT X 64-bit routines to communicate/switch properly with the 32-bit routines as required for your content.
Why do I need Quick time 7 and Quicktime 10?
Technically, you probably don't. However, as an old QT 7 Pro user who likes many of the QT 7 Player controls/options/features better than QT X's new but more basic features, I maintain both in active service and tend to use QT 7 as the default player of most of my work flows. Still, this is up to the individual. I am in no hurry to rush the changeover from an older but still more reliable QT technology to a more modern, but as yet, less mature and well tested "new" QT technology. In short, I feel it best to make the most of both dispensations during the development of this "new" version of QT.

  • Time compression / expansion

New to Logic Pro, need help. I make commercials and constantly have to time compress or expand voiceovers to fit to the donut length in the music beds. Is there an easy way to accomplish this?? These will be voice audio files, not midi files. Also how do I change the timeline in the arrange window to display minutes/seconds and/or timecode?
Thanks from a long time PT user. (12 years) and ready to make a change.
    mike

There is a quick way that I use all the time.
Comp your V/O with the desired read etc.... then merge the audio files in to one.
Set the cycle area with the desired length in the donut.
Under Audio in the arrange menu.
'Adjust region length to locators' and you're done.
(set this to a key command, for fast editing)
Note: This uses the selected timestretch algorithm, that is selected in the Time Machine of the Sample editor window.
You might need to refresh your overview for that particular audio region after, as there is a redraw bug, where the audio might not look like it goes to the end of the region, when in fact it is just drawn incorrectly.

  • How to import mpg files & quick time question

Hello. I found some previous answers here and followed them, which brings me to now. I bought the QT 6 MPEG-2 PLAYBACK-MAC OS X-INT plug in to allow me to bring mpg files from my sony digital camcorder. I keep getting a message that 'this file is not a movie file'. I don't know how to tell if the MPEG-2 plug in is installed, how can I find out in Quick Time? I have Quick Time Pro.
What application would be best for me to start editing movies? I have IMovie 6.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    thanks

Hi Trib and welcome to the forums!
Mpeg2 is the standard compressed final delivery format of a DVD, and is not intended for further editing.
You need to convert your mpeg2 files to a DV stream that you can edit in iMovie 6.
    For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html
which is free, but you must also have the Apple mpeg2 plugin which you have already installed.

  • Quick time cannot open an .avi file

Quick time cannot open an .avi file

Quick time cannot open an .avi file
What QT player are you using and shat forms of compressed data does the AVI file contain?
AVI is a legacy file container type abandoned by Microsoft a dozen years ago in favor of development of its newer, proprietary Windows Media product. While the AVI file container is still supported by all QT players, the codecs used to encode the data contained in the file are, for the most part not supported by QT X player and may require the installation of third-party codecs for use with the QT 7 player. Basically, you have three options here:
You can use the QT 7 player with additional codecs (if available) to play the content.
You can use a third-party player like VLC or NicePlayer with built-in codec support to player the files.
Or you can use an app like HandBrake to convert the AVI files to MPEG-4 or MPEG-4 AVC files compatible with all current QT/QL/IOS players.

  • Email attachments try to open in Quick Time

Occasionally I get email attachments which will not open as trying to open in Quick Time. These are text attachments, not video.

I had Toast 10 and upgraded to Toast 11.  I would drag a movie from Snap Z onto Toast 11 to make a video.  Afterwards it doesn't open in Quick Time Player-version 10.2.
What does "to make a video" mean? What compression formats? What file container?
What settings do I need to change in order to get that to happen?
The basic answer is "any compression format and file container compatible with your operating system." Normally this could be anything from H.264/AAC in an MP4, M4V, or MOV file container to "muxed" MPEG-2/AC3 in an MPG, MPEG, or TS file container. Installation of non-native codec components will further expand the number of possible compression/file type combinations.

  • Quick Time 7.6.9

i just upgraded my computer from os 10.4.11 to 10.5.6 the new quick time player 7.6.9 will not play my current quick time videos created under quick time player 6.0. WHY?
Answer may require more information. What compression formats are involved? If "legacy," do you have the legacy codecs turned on. If MPEG-2, did you update the QT MPEG-2 Playback component to the one required for QT v7.6? If third-party components, did you re-install the codecs/packages following the Leopard system upgrade?

  • IMovie file to Quick Time

I just got done editing my video podcast using iMovie. Does anyone know how to change the file from an iMovie file, to a Quick Time file? I have tried
    Open document with...
    Quick Time was not listed.
    Changing the ending to .mov
This made a folder, of all the elements of the vid. podcast. Audio, visuals.ect.
    Can anyone help me.
    P.S. I do not have iLife 06.

    In iMovie:
Go to the File Menu and select Share...
Select the Quicktime Tab and Compress Movie for: Expert Settings
Under the Export drop down menu, select: Movie to iPod (320x240)
It will save it as a file with the extension .m4v
You can also select other Quicktime and MPEG-4 formats to export it too, but the Movie to iPod setting is the easiest one to do.

  • When I try and Share a project, I get a Quick Time Error -50  Any Ideas?  Apple Care is scratching thier heads.

When I try and Share (export) a project, I get a Quick Time Error -50  Any Ideas?  Apple Care is scratching their heads.

Okay, after several hours on the phone w/ Apple Care includiing nearly 10 hours on Wednesday, we finally figured out why I would get a Quicktime Error -50 when I tried to share a project out of FCP X.  The problem was in the music track that I had in the project.  I ripped a track from an audio CD, put in my iTunes then imported into the FCP timeline just as Apple says to do.
The problem is; iTunes default rippping codec is AAC.  FCPX can't handle AAC compression.  I had to re-rip the audio CD to a uncomressed AIFF file, bring that back into my project and then FCPX could share the file and do it's own copression.
This was a new discovery for Apple and FCPX.

  • Do I have to buy Quick Time Pro every time I upgrade?

I don't use Quick Time Pro much, about once every three or four months. Seems every time I want to use it, I've inadvertantly upgraded my system and have to purchase QuickTime Pro all over again.
Is there any way to avoid this regular price-gouging? Are there other non-Mac programs that don't do this?

Are there other non-Mac programs that don't do this?
There are a number of free converter applications available that handle both QT compatible compression formats, as well as, other formats (e.g., MPEG, AVI, DivX, 3ivX, WMV, etc.) assuming you have appropriate QT components installed. I personally like MPEG Streamclip and/or ffmpegX. Both complement QT Pro and each other when it comes to various strengths and weaknesses.
