Quick time error "a file could not be found"

Quick time error "a file could not be found" when trying to open a file that exist in a directory name including hebrew characters.
When copying the same file to other directory with english characters only, file opens without any problem.
This is very frustrating since my files are located under My documents directory
The full path of the "My Document" directory is:
C:\Documents and Settings\אלון\My Documents.
Also, I have IPOD 5G (with video). iTunes does not have any problems with audio files located under the above directory, but video files for my IPOD have the same problem (since probably it is using Quick time). The problem with iTunes is more frustrating since it does not report any error, but you just cant update video podcasts or add video files to library.
I spent a few days to uderstand this.

This is a old post from when I had recieved the Error-43 file could not be found. In my case I had a drive lettered F:\ F:\ when changing the drive to a single letter F:\ it resolved the problem, so something you might want to take a look at.

  • Error messag: File could not be found

    Hello,
I don´t know were to post this so I give it a try here:
I get a error message: RealPlayer: The file could not be found. The used link is outdated or incorrect. (below I see the link adress)
Were can I get rid of this link? I don´t know were to change it or delete it so the message won´t show up again.
    Thank you for your help

Just spoke to Apple cust service (the tech at the Genius bar in the Arlington VA store could not figure it out).
Cust service suggested I close iTunes, then remove two files iTunesLibrary.itl and iTunesMusic.xml from iTunes to the Desktop. Then open iTunes, which will be empty. Load backup discs (which I fortunately have), populate iTunes again, which will now include the previously missing files, and then delete the files on the Desktop.
If the backup does not work, then drag the two desktop files back to iTunes which should then not be empty but have the reduced population.
The problem is apparently caused by anti-virus s/w which attaches to songs and quarantines or deletes them. Can happen any time, so the importance of keeping backups up to date.
Let me try it and see what happens.

  • Error message: file could not be found.

I use iTunes 8.2.1.6. I have started getting this message "Song X could not be used because the original file cannot be found. Would you like to locate it?" for about a quarter of the songs in my library. If I click "locate", it takes me to a window with program files, apparently.
It also syncs only 3/4 of my songs to my classic iPod, again something new. And does not back up to disc: just freezes on a song and then crashes. The iPod was bought on July 11, 2009.
    Appreciate any advice. Thanks!

  • Quicktime error -43: File could not be found.

I'm working on a windows computer in on a disk connected to a mac. The mac has the latest leopard on it and has a disk connected which is Mac osx extended formatted.
Strange problem that I have is that I can't open quicktime files that are in a directory that has more then 8 characters. I get the -43 error.
If I copy the same file to another directory with less then 8 characters it plays perfectly. If the filename itself is longer then 8 characters it's playable to.
Does anyone has any idea what is cousing this problem, before we used leopard I never had this problem.

Ok figured it out. Seems that there's something wrong with the SMB protocol.
If you have the same problem? Go to the MAC with the harddisk connected.
be sure to be root users and have hidden files on. Edit the /etc/smb.conf file.
under [global] insert the line "mangled names = no".
That's it! Shame on you Apple for not fixing this in a patch.

The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.

Please help, I have been trying for months to get this work!

may i suggest opening the files in Olymous Viewer 3  and exporting them (you can do some editing there if you wish or not) asTIFF files. After that you can import the new files into LR. LR seems to like tiiff more than .orf files
The advantage to using OV3 is that it seems to do a much better job converting RAW EM1 files. Colors are more accurate ( my red flower pot turned orange when loaded directly into lightroom)
. The tiff files just LOOK better in LR  after the conversion . there is a youtube on this subject and when i tried it myself i was impressed

  • On some of my files there is a ! in front of it, if I try to play the song, I get an error message; "The song "_____" could not be used, because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" Then when I click "Locate", I get nothing.

I'm really dumbfounded on this one and it's driving me bonkers!!!! On some of my music files there is a ! in front of it, if I try to play the song, I get an error message; "The song "_____" could not be used, because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?"
This began to happen when Chuck made playlists2burn on2CD-and then he would delete the playlist; sending all the song files into oblivion. Certain songs have a ! right next to the file name, and as I stated before, i get that error message:
"The song "_____" could not be used, because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?"
So I click on "Locate". No help. I get a menu with folders that say "catroot" and other folders which names I cannot remember, but I scroll PAST the file folders, & it's just a bunch of ".DLL" files.....I don't understand what any of the names of the folders mean...it's frustr8ing-coz this is my 2nd iTouch, my 1st one got stolen & I can't afford2buy my music back at this time & i NEVER before had a single problem with losing song file locations.
Is there anyone out there who has been through this frustrating game of chasing your tail?....<that's how I feel>
If so I would be ever so gr8ful if maybe someone with the knowledge would be so kind as 2 tell me how/where 2 retrieve these songs & how to put everything back where it belongs, I would be 4ever gr8ful !!!
I can't afford 2 replace the songs just like I'm unable 2 buy back my old music from my stolen iTouch....man that was an awesome collection-someday I'll be able 2 afford 2 do that & I would like 2 have all the new music that I paid 4 but cannot find when I got my new iTouch....that would just be  wonderful.
I hope someone sees this post that can help me retrieve these files....losing $100.00 of iTunes is a REAL BUMMER!!!!!!

    I was not complete clear.
Since you never changed the settings in the advanced section of iTunes preferecnes, you have to chech that your music is really in the location setted in the folders reported in the advanced section.  If not you have 2 ways: reset the position of this folders or in the actual disk organisation or in the pointing on the preferences.
If you press the reset button you just give to itunes its default setting as for the position of the music files: probably this will be a good choice if you have never changed any default preference.
But before I would check the folders and see if the songs are really there
In my iTune I have this, and I believe it is the default.

  • Could not save preferences because the file could not be found (Windows) then Error 1 on PS,AE,PR,ID

I was trying out Photoshop, everything was running fine then one day when I close it I get an error:
"Could not save preferences because the file could not be found..."
Now when I boot it I get the Configuration Error 1.
After Effects still boots, but it reset all my preferences there. For example the workplace layout was reset, all my saved Output presets were removed and my memory-cache and performance settings were reset again.
Premiere and InDesign get the error too and won't boot.
This is the second time it has happened, I'll try wiping every Adobe program and reinstalling all over again, but it had run fine before for a while and it randomly happened.
Any idea how to fix this?

Nope I havent touched the Documents folder.
Forgot to mention that I'm on Windows 7

FATAL ERROR : The dynamic C library contained in the extension file could not be found.

I see that you already have my system info. Any help is much appreciated!

Just read in another post that there is a known 49 character limit on the file path for QuickTime movies..

  • HT1933 I bought six songs using my itunes gift card in February but I cannot play the songs or downlaod them to my ipod because I get an error saying the original file could not be found.  I have used the gift card previously with no issue.  How do I fix

I bought six songs using my itunes gift card in February but I cannot play the songs or downlaod them to my ipod because I get an error saying the original file could not be found.  I have used the gift card previously with no issue.  How do I fix it?

Have you moved or deleted those tracks on your computer (the gift card has got nothing to do with it) ?
You might be able to re-download them via the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes (re-downloading isn't possible in all countries) - if those songs appear there then delete the entries from your iTunes library (where you are clicking on them to play them and gettinf the 'original file' error), and they should then get a cloud symbol against them for re-downloading.
If they don't appear in that link then have you got them on, for example, an external drive ?

  • Quick time movies (.mov) files will not play in Iphoto 11.

Quick time movies (.mov) files will not play in Iphoto 11. The thumbnail of the movie shows but when selected only a exclamation mark appears.  I rebuilt the library, thumbnails, permissions etc. I also found the movie files in the iphoto database intact and working. Please advise.

    You're welcome.
Well believe it or not, that's exactly what the exclamation point means. Search the forum. I've been doing this a while.
Next, I have no interest, commercial or otherwise in Library Manager, I have no shares in the company that makes it. I didn't make it. It's not my software.  You could give those guys a million dollars and I'll get nothing from it. I and other expereinced users have recommended it thousands of times on this forum for this problem. Amazing how often it works. Of course, a quick search would have told you that already.
Another: Believe it or not you can use the Rebuild Function of Library Manager for free. You don't need to purchase it for that purpose.
Y'all have a nice paranoid day now.

  • Original File Could Not be Found error

Hi, I'm sure that I'm missing something obvious here, but seem to be stumped. I recently bought a new iMac and migrated my Itunes folder and other stuff to the new iMac from my old ibook and external drive (location of old itunes folder). Everything was fine for a month or so and then the trouble started. Now when I click on a song within itunes, I get an error message state that the original file could not be found and asking me if I want to locate it. If I navigate to my itunes folder and double click on that song (file), it plays just fine.
How can I get Itunes to recognize where all of the songs in my library are?
I tried opening itunes while holding the Option key and choosing the itunes library location to be where it is, but I still get the same error.
I'm not sure what I did to create this error. The only thing that I can think of is that I synched my old shuffle for the first time since I bought the new imac. My iphone, which I have synched numerous times, seems to work just fine (songs play fine, the appropriate files are synched to it).
    Any hints greatly appreciated.

No, I haven't found an answer. Even more bizarre, it now seems that some of the songs in the library don't generate the error message while others do. Does not seem to be any discernible pattern (e.g. purchased, artist, etc.)

  • File could not be found Error

Just thought I'd mention something I've run into recently with my old Shuffle.
I have things set up to be manually managed because Syncing is a mess dealing with all my iDevices so I've grown accustomed to dragging over music manually to my 2nd Gen Shuffle but I've run into this error when doing so:
"iTunes could not copy "song name" to the iPod "iPod name" because the file could not be found."
Which is bizarre because the song is already in iTunes. The way to fix it is to turn OFF "Convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps AAC".
It only happens on some songs and I can't find a commonality between them at all. Also I've noticed that when iTunes throughs up this error the Shuffle mounts on the desktop briefly then unmounts. I have it set to not use it as a disk in iTunes.
Has anyone else seen or dealt with this error?

Fantastic, thanks so much for figuring this out.
I was having the same problem, with the same three files failing every time I tried to sync my iPhone. But iTunes could locate them fine via Show in Finder. Even tried making copies of the files, deleting them old ones (from both my Library and the machine), and then importing the copied files back into iTunes. And the same "file could not be found" message still came up, every sync, now on the cloned files.
Turning off the AAC conversion made it go away. Completed sync on the first try, no errors.
    Thanks again!
