Quick Time Pro is a rip off ?

I recently upgraded to Q-Pro just to find out it would not work for me, it didn't do anything it said it would do. I could not import my home movies from my DV cam or convert current Q-Time movies to iPod format and when i tried callind tech support they had me waiting for a half hour to speak to a specialist just so he could tell me to go to apples web site, the worst part they don't offer refunds. I hope this helps anyone so you won't throw $32 down the drain.

I could not import my home movies from my DV cam
This is not an "import" function. This is a "capture" function. Use applications like iMovie, Final Cut Express, Final Cut Pro, or a free third party application like Vidi to capture video from a firewire device like a DV cam, analog-to-digital converter, iSight, certain digital cameras, digital recorders, etc.
"Import" refers to the ability of QT Pro to access, convert to QT format, and open some otherwise unsupported/unplayable file formats. (This may or may not require other third party QT components to be installed.)
or convert current Q-Time movies to iPod format
Once video is captured and in a suitable QT compatible file format/opened in QT Pro, it can then be easily converted to .mp4 or .m4v iPod compatible files. There is even a "Movie to iPod (320x24)" .m4v preset built into QT 7 now.

I have purchased QT Pro and received instructions by email to download. When I click on the link ' http://www.apple.com/quicktime/pro/keyinstall.html ' I find myself on 'Apple Support QuickTime' with no means of starting the registration or download. Help!!

Make sure you're entering in both the user name and key code exactly as in the email Apple sent you. Any error in either, including leaving off a salutation (for instance, if the email says "Mr. John Smith") will cause the registration to error.
If you continue to have problems, or for future questions, I'd suggest you start a new topic with your issue (use the "Post a new topic" link at the top of each main topic page). It's generally better to ask a question as a new topic rather than as a reply in someone else's thread. It's more courteous to the original poster, and is more likely to get your question the attention it deserves.

  • Quick Time Pro for Mac FAILURE

The upgrade to Quick Time Pro was marketed by Apple as a "one click" answer and means to record movies. What a crock!!
I'm trying to record a streaming video/sound presentation, like a class. Right click on its link gives a URL.
So, one would think that entering the URL into QTPro would activate the video, but it doesn't. After reading this forum, I repaired permissions [whatever that means] using disk utilities, and it still fails. I've tried clicking on the QT controller just as soon as movie starts, and nothing.
    Now what?
Any help would be appreciated. I'm obviously doing something wrong, but don't know what.

Well you have to have an account to view ( so I didn't view it) but there are a lot of ways to get flash, the easiest being to use Firefox and the free add-in DownloadHelper which will let you copy the flv file off the site to a file and then watch it in QT or MPEG Streamclip if you have the right codecs.
Install Macromedia's most recent flash component for Firefox and also Perian.
Free, free, and free. MPEG Streamclip will allow you to export the flv to Quicktime as well.
You don't need QT Pro at all and had you searched you would have saved the dough, too.

  • Quick time Pro VS. iMovie HD

    Hi,
I am thinking of upgrading from my iPod Photo to the iPod movie and was wondering if in order to get avi or mepg movies into my ipod video, I need to purchace quick time pro.
I have iMove HD and have been able to first import an .avi movie into it, and then convert that imported file to .mp4, which then I was able to import into my iTunes movie library. Since I don't have the ipod video yet, I am wondering if it will be uploaded upon sync. I am thinking that since the file was added to the iTunes library, then it will certainly be syncable!
I also imported video from my mini DV camera into iMovie HD and converted the final movie into the mp4 format and was also able to import that file into my iTunes video library. And thus was wondering the same thing, will this file be syncable with the ipod video?
If yes is the case, then why would I need Quick time Pro?
Thanks and I look forward to your explannation.
Also, on a last note, if I want to convert some of my DVD's to be able to watch them on my ipod, what steps do I need to take? I am a powerbook g4 owner.
In that case, will I need Quick time Pro, or can I still do it using iMovie HD, or perhaps even some other free software that might be available?
    Thanks.

I am thinking of upgrading from my iPod Photo to the iPod movie and was wondering if in order to get avi or mepg movies into my ipod video, I need to purchace quick time pro.
I personally would recommend having QT Pro and the MPEG2 plug-in in order to short-cut certain work flow options. However, if you are asking if it is absolutely necessary, then the answer is no. First off, QT Pro will not convert "muxed" files (MPEG1, MPEG2, VOB, certain AVI, AVI MJPEG, etc.) any more than you already can using QT Tools access through iMovie, FCX, and/or FCP. As to AVI not already supported by your work flow, you would sill need the DivX or 3ivX QT plug-in with Pro. Same is true if you want to process WMV files in QT Pro. Only in this case, you would need to get the WMV/WMA QT Pro plug-in from Flip4Mac or a similar third party. The only real advantage in using QT Pro is not having to import the source file into iMovie first. Of course, this isn't a problem where you plan to edit a movie anyway but is nice if you are simply transcoding a QT compatible format directly to an iPod compatible format. In addition, it does give you QT Player some additional enhancements which can come in handy.
For "muxed" video, you will still need an MPEG based third party application like PSPWare (free in the unregistered mode), iSQuint (free), Forty-TwoDVD-VXPlus ($$), or MPEG StreamClip (free) to handle such situations. In addition, it is likely that you will eventually come across a movie whose content is simply too complex to be handled by one or more of the format converters and you will either have to modify settings or switch to a secondary application.
Since I don't have the ipod video yet, I am wondering if it will be uploaded upon sync. I am thinking that since the file was added to the iTunes library, then it will certainly be syncable!
Unfortunately, this is not rue. Both the QT and iTunes players are based on the on the complete QT library. The iPod player, on the other hand, is merely a sub-set player of the other two. As far as video goes, it is only capable of playing MPEG4/AAC (LC) and H.264/AAC (LC) file formats and then, only when they meet specific requirements. So you will just have to wait and see what happens when you actually try to sync your files.
I also imported video from my mini DV camera into iMovie HD and converted the final movie into the mp4 format and was also able to import that file into my iTunes video library. And thus was wondering the same thing, will this file be syncable with the ipod video?
Same answer here. You will just have to wait and see if you selected the proper settings the first time.
If yes is the case, then why would I need Quick time Pro?
    Also already answered above.
Also, on a last note, if I want to convert some of my DVD's to be able to watch them on my ipod, what steps do I need to take?
Your best bet is to download HandBrake (free) or Forty-TwoDVD-VXPlus ($$). The former is a Decrypter/"on-the-fly" extractor and converter. It is require you to enter a number of user setting correctly to work properly, but is a "one-stop" program and well worth the price. The latter, is more of a "settings free" application and probably worth the investment if you are not inclined to manual manipulations. However, it does not decrypt or extract, so you would also need to use a decrypter/extractor application like MacThe Ripper first.
I am a powerbook g4 owner. In that case, will I need Quick time Pro, or can I still do it using iMovie HD, or perhaps even some other free software that might be available?
As indicated above, there are a number of options currently available. In addition to those already mentioned, you may wish to try MoviesForMyPod (free) or Podner ($$). The former is a simple, handy converter for QT compatible format conversions. The latter is probably the most polished QT/QT plug-ins compatible converter and has the "tightest" conversion process when it comes to the conversion of "problem" files which sometimes "stump" other converter utilities and is currently iLounge's "favorite" converter.

ok. In the link you gave me, it says if I have not

I need to record my movie if im using a pc before I

That link is talking about getting the video off a digital video camera. You want to get it from a DVD and we've already established that you can't do that with Quicktime Pro.
Getting video off a camera using Windows would be specific to your camera and the software you use to do it.

  • DVD player vs. Quick Time Pro

I'm a new switcher and wondering what, if any, would be the benifits to upgrading to Quick Time Pro? My MacBook Pro came with a DVD player preinstalled. I am mostly going to use this program for watching DVDs. Does Quick Time Pro produce a better picture or have better performance?
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   recent switcher

If all you want to do is watch DVDs then you are probably better off sticking to the DVD Player. QT will not read DVDs unless you buy the Mpeg2PlaybackComponent from Apple and even then it has a number of limitations:

The most serious is that it will not decrypt protected Hollywood movies

i am having problems exporting my time lapses from quick time pro i need to save my files as photo jpegs but the standard video compression window will not open fully, it just keeps my mac (old 1.6Ghz 2.5 GB sdram G5 still good for most stuff i need) spinning for ever but i can see compression type H.264 selected and the other setting but i can not select any other options as it still thinking but never opens! why is this happening how do i get round it?
my work flow is: 300 images shot on a 5d mark II medium jpegs opened in Light Room cropped to 16:9 then exported and opened in quick time i can save a .mov H264 giving me files sizes of 14 mb for a 16 second time lapse, mp4 9 mb. the only way i can get large files is saving as a self contained movie then i get 300mb files.
i need to save my files 1920 x 1080 photo jpeg codec as i want HD quality.
i am sure there is a simple way round this?
    thanks guys!

I strongly recommend you use compressor to do the conversion (if it will open the files - since quicktime will open them, it will more than likely do it.
Compressor allows you to customize presets and save them and apply them to multiple files.  Although the interface may seem daunting, it's actually pretty simple.
Even if you can edit the avi in fcp, it's not a good idea.  Liable to cause problems down the road.

  • How many times can I download Quick Time Pro once I purchased it?

Last September I purched my update to Quick Time Pro. Now I bought a new Computer and re-formatted the old one, not being able to copy Quick Time Pro from the old to the new computer. Therefore I wanted to download again Quick Time Pro: In the settings window I introduced my program key and then "accepted". It said "Quick Time pro" below the registration line; however, the "apply" buttom was not operative. I checked and my Quick Time version was still "Quick Time 7", not Pro. My question is: how many times can I download Quick Time Pro once I purched it? If I can download it more often than once, how do I proceed? Thank you for your help.

    I started this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2454706&tstart=0
but I'm afraid it's so involved that thus far, nobody has "touched" it.
However, PART of my problem is similar to THIS person's.
My problem is that I have QT on two different drives in one computer; the one I paid for [QT Pro?] and one I got for free; QT7. I fear the free QT7 might have "interfered" with my "Pro".
So, taking your advice above, looking in the "Help" "About" menu, I find that BOTH of mine another "offer" above the word "About"; they suggest that I "Purchase QT Pro"...... so now, if BOTH of my QT's say THAT, then may I conclude that I do NOT have the Pro version? I'm meaning to say that if I already HAVE the Pro, they wouldn't suggest that I go and "Buy QT Pro".... right? Is this a safe conclusion? for ya'll that HAVE the Pro, and KNOW it, does it suggest to you that you could go and "purchase QT Pro"?
    Thanks,
    LarryR : )

How do I reinstall Quick Time Pro for the second time if I no longer have the original email even though I have the registration code??
My PC died and I want to reinstall on a new PC.

Download and install the "free" version of QuickTime Player from Apple.
Under its Edit menu choose Preferences / Registration and enter your info. This "unlocks" the Pro features found in the free download.

  • Quick Time Pro in Windows 7

I have quick time pro 7 but use it in Windows not Mac.  I can't find a way to play a .wma file in quick time pro.  All I can see online is codec software to allow wma files to play in quick time if you have a mac.  This doesn't help if you are trying to use quick time pro with windows.
I have a movie I created in windows live movie maker and want to play it in quick time pro or more specifically import it so I can export it to a m4v file to upload the video on my iphone 4s.   The video orginated from my iphone 4 as mov but I found it much easier to edit in movie maker over quick time pro but now can't save the file as mpeg4 or m4v in movie maker so I need to be able to open the save wma in quicktime pro.

The Windows version of QuickTime Player can't open Windows Media Player formats.
The only reason the Mac version uses QuickTime for WMP files is because of additional third party software.

In the optional install items-Quick Time is not an option. I am on Leopard.
    Then you either:
    1) never had QT X installed and could not have deleted it since QT X is only installed on Snow Leopard (OS X v10.6), Lion (OS X v10.7), and Mountain Lion (OS X v10.8) systems or...
    2) you are actually running Snow Leopard (OS X v10.6) and not Leopard (OS X v10.5) as you just stated.
