Quick Time Screen recording really choppy/ bad frame rate.
So when i record my screen using other programs everything is smooth and the video moves at the same speed as real time, but when i record using Quick time then the video is very laggy and the frame rate is really bad and things are just jumping around a lot.
Is Quck Time just not capable of Screen recording complex things? is it only capable of recording microsoft word? lol.
If someone can hep me use Qucik time to record me screen then that would be great, cause with the way it is now there simply is no point to using it at all cause it doesnt record the screen very well, it just lags and everything jumps around to much. Its like watching a slide show where the pictures change every 2 sec rather than a video.
Hello justo,
Well let's get this straight, if you activate the "custom" needs to disable "Show" not to be active in recording the two modules, when you enter the part of customization changes and exit, when he is back in "Demonstration" because the standard method of entry but if your looking for customization that you changed it continues on, not being changed.
This is my thought to what can entedender of your doubts.

Why is quicktime screen recording playback choppy?
I'm trying to record gameplay on my computer screen with quicktime's screen record feature, but when I go back and watch it, it is really choppy and skips some parts.
I have a 27 inch iMac (Late 2009)
3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4 GB Memory
Snow Leopard OS
I'm not sure if my computer is not powerful enough for such a task, or if quicktime 10.0 isn't capable of smoothly recording gameplay.
I've tried lowering graphic settings in the game and switching the recorder to medium quality, but no matter what the video is still choppy, distorted, and skips.
Please help!I'm not sure if my computer is not powerful enough for such a task, or if quicktime 10.0 isn't capable of smoothly recording gameplay.
I've tried lowering graphic settings in the game and switching the recorder to medium quality, but no matter what the video is still choppy, distorted, and skips.
The main problem is that the CPU power is divided between both the rendering of what is displayed on the screen and simultaneously recording that screen redering. Further, the app is programmed with a more or less fixed recoding data rate dependent on the recording quality setting and screen area to be recorded. Basically, the "scratch" file captue data rate on my systems may vary from a low of about 20 Mbps to a high on the order of nearly 80 Mbps. Since the recoding data rate is more or less fixed for each recording session, the QT X screen capture routine varies the frame rate in response to the amount of CPU power that is available for recording. Thus, if you check the playback frame rates for your files, you will probably see relatively low fps which produce the "chopply" playback. You will probably also note that the lower quality recording setting produces a somewhat higher frame rate with slightly smoother playback than the HQ mode. That is because the Photo JPEG medium efficiency codec is less CPU intensive than the MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) high efficiency video codec which produces better video quality in a smaller file package.
The normal method for improving the smoothness of final playback is to decrease the area of your scratch recording which, in turn, tends to increase the frame rate of your scratch file providing a smoother playback potential. Some apps allow you to select and record a given area of the screen at its current resolution and/or record the display at a "scaled resolution" to reduce the surface area actually being recoded. Other apps only record the screen at its "native" resolution with or without the ability select a specific area of the screen for recording. Still others may allow you to record "objects" such as a gaming window which may or may not already be scaled by the user to selected fraction of the entire display area. In short, what you can do to increase the frame rate and smooth playback may vary drastically depending on the specific screen capture app use. QT X v10.2 allows recording of both a user selected area or a "scaled" display rendering to improve the frame rate but I rarely use it. I would normally use the moderately priced ScreenFlick app instead for simple projects or an app like Snaps Pro X or ScreenFlow for more complex screen capture projects. -
Quick Time screen capture freezes when i'm working with Modo 3D. Any solution?
Hi guys, When I'm working with Luxology Modo, Quick Time screen capture freezes every time on Mac OS X Mavericks. When I'm doing some operation in Modo, like slice geometry per exemple, QuickTime crashes. I must force quit quicktime and when I relauch the application, the screen capture opens but screen capture ends at the time when I cliked on the Modo slice operation. It's frustrating because I can't do nothing with screen capture. I tried other screen capture applications but the problem persists! When I was using Snow Leopard Quick Time works very well!! Do you have some resolution for this problem? Regards, César.
I'm using OS X Mavericks as well, and it seems like the same thing happens when I try to type in MonoDevelop, part of the Unity package. Unity works fine, it only seems as though I can't screen record typing in MonoDevelop. It looks like it's still recording, it just has the rainbow wheel of death after I try to finish out the Quicktime. I left it up for several days and ignored it, but it still didn't finish. I finally had to force quit it and reopen it and when I did it opened up the temporary file of the video I was recording, but it stopped whenever I started to type into the MonoDevelop interface. The first time it let me save the video to the desktop. The second time, the time which I left it open for days, it would not let me save it, on command-S or on exit. I don't know exactly what's wrong, but I believe that you know as much as I do. Please post a reply if you need any more information or have a fix.

(Nokia N9) Is the video recording really that bad?
Hello guys, there's some time that I'm using the Nokia N9 and I just can't believe that the video recording quality is that bad, I came from a Nokia C6-01 and honestly, the C6-01 is much much better. The problem with the N9 is that when you move the camera the video become a mess full of artifacts, the auto-focus and the incredible audio recording become irrelevant when the videos don't make any justice for what you expect from HD videos. It's just sad that this only happens when you are moving the camera, if you stand still, the quality is incredible and the audio quality makes it perfect. I bet that the problem is from the low bitrate from the N9 videos. I'm hopeless but I wonder if there's a mod or anything that can be done to make the videos look better?
The N9 does have an issue on video recording.
When I was still using the Nokia N9, there are some frame lags and video quality is not at its best. Details are good on me but not as good as my Lumia 710 or the Nokia E7.
And yet unfortunately, I can't help you on this one.
If I have helped you in any way, give me a kudos! -
Can Quick Time Pro record webcasts?
Before I buy QuickTime Pro I need to know: can it record and save webcasts? Thanks.
QuickTime doesn't "record" what you view on your display. For that you need screen capture software.
It can "save" most QuickTime formats that are played using its browser plug-in as local copies of the file. -
HT2376 my quick time player is very choppy I have OS X 10.6.8 how can fix it?
How do I fix the choppy playback for Quicktime. I havnt been able to find an easy fix. What do i do?

You can purchase Lion from the Mac App Store. You will need to meet the requirements for Lion, but the Mac App Store will tell you whether your Mac is capable of running Lion or not. -
Hi,
I wanted to record high frame rate videos (25 or 30) using my MBP. I tried photo booth, Quick time and iMovie, but they record movies in variable frame rates (14 to 20 fps) even if i save them in different formats. I cannot find any setting to change frame rate in these softwares.
Before going to buy a new webcam or software I wanted to make sure if frame rate is limited by the capacity of the HD webcam or the softwares itself in MBPs.
If it's the limitation of software, is there any 3rd party software/app that would help recored high frame rate movies with the MBP webcam itself?Hi,

Is there something in IOS that makes it impossible to create a Display / Screen Recorder, without jailbreaking?
I see more and more apps that have built-in screen recording capabilities into their applications. Mostly in Educational Apps and a few drawing apps:
ExplainEverything, ShowMe, ScreenChomp, and Brushes to name a few. However there are no Apps that can create a screencast of you working on your iPad without jailbreaking. Initially I thought it was the lack of mutlitasking but that was mostly taken care of with the iPad 2. Yet there are still no Apps that can perform screen recordings of the iPad.
Apple before every developer attempts to create this within their own Apps some well and some badly, wouldn't it make sense to have an Apple developed or Apple / TechSmith partnership to create an iPad Screen Recording capability in the iPad 1, iPad 2 and all future iPads.
It is a post PC world and I shouldn't have to connect my iPad to my MacBook or PC just to capture my iPad screen (Not just an Image, but real-time screen recording). Even an external piece of hardware small, inexpensivew with either an SD card or SSD Drive for storage that plugs into the iPads and iPhones would be better than nothing. A software App that runs on the iPad is the ideal. So before this type of Universal App can be created, is there something that Apple needs to do or provide hooks for to make this happen.
TonyP "Waiting in St. Paul for an iPad Display / Screen Recorder for his iPad"There's no way I could find to change the message page. Try the App Store I'm sure you'll find something you like better.

Older Quick Time before 7.1.6
Hi,
I need to find back the version before the last version - 7.1.6 - because When I was visiting WorldDrummer - drums site - it was possible to download videos and MP3 on my hard disk ( with the precedent version) and now it doesn't work no more - just possibility to look and hear on a Quick Time screen on the website of WorlDrummer. And I need to download and put it on DVD to give it to my drums' pupils. Is there anybody on the forum who can send me the precedent version - 7.1.5 ?-
So thanks lot if you could help

60i, 30p or 24p Frame Rates?
I have a Canon XL2 and it allows me to record in 3 different frame rates. I'm wondering if you guys can tell me which one is the best for most all recordings such as weddings and things. Also, I was recording, pausing, and changing those settings during a single recording and when loading into FCP I get time code errors and had trouble getting them to load. Is this normal or is something else maybe wrong?
Thanks,
glennYour best bet is to experiment with each and see what you like. Stuff I do either ends up on the web or on a DVD so I usually shoot the 24p Advanced on my DVX... the XL2 has the same setting.
That will let you REMOVE the cadence it adds and actually edit in 24frames per second.
However... when you shoot that mode, NEVER:
1) turn the camera off without stopping the record with the red button
2) review your material and start recording again
3) Don't trust the find-end-frame feature either
That said... the rest is easy.
If you do have different scene styles recorded on the same tape, use the log and capture feature to get it off the tape.
Also, read this page:
http://www.adamwilt.com/24p/
It deals with the DVX, but the XL2 is the Canon answer to it and has all the same tc features.
Good luck,

Different frame rate in movie mode? iPhone 4
I noticed that my iPhone shoots video clips with different frame rate from time to time. I suppose it slows frame rate on dark shots. For now all of my daylight shots are 30 fps, while night or dark ones are 25 and 24. This makes it hard to edit clips in iMovie for example, because difference in frame rate causes strobe motion effect on output.

Anybody have the same?
For reliable results I would suggest to shoot two clips: one in sunny daylight conditions, another with ordinary room lightning, maybe a little darker than normal.
Please let me know of the results. ThanksDoesn't seem to be just a Quicktime bug:

Interpreting Frame Rate issues
Hey guys, got a tough one here:
I'm rendering Toonboom animations to Quicktime Mov Files at 24fps - although when i import them into Premiere CS6 it will only 50% of the time recognise the correct frame rate - the other times it will choose a random frame rate ( like 4.8, 6 or 12fps ) and in turn lose the footage between the frames - such as if it is running at 6 fps it will only display 6 of the 24 frames per second and play it in realtime but missing the majority of the frames
When going to Modify and trying to interpret the footage back to 24fps it simply speeds up the 6 fps to 24 so it then plays at a collosal speed and if i slow the footage back down in the speed duration menu it goes back to the 6fps or whatever it was before
Every other program ( Media Player, Sony Vegas Pro ) recognise these files as 24fps - how can i get premiere to do the same?My first recommendation would be to bypass QuickTime and choose another format. See if that fares any better.

High Latency with low frame rate
I'm getting 30 seconds of latency (between source video and
FME input window) when frame rate is set to 1.00 fps. With higher
frame rates, latency is very low.
Odd behavior: when switching from, say, 29.97 to 1.00 fps, I
see every frame (no frames are dropped), but they paint at only 1
per second (which means a large buffer is building somewhere).
After several seconds, the behavior switches to the expected 1 fps
(with all intervening frames dropped), but the whole thing is
delayed by roughly 30 seconds.
build: FME 2.5.0.2086
format: H.264 or VP6 (happens with both)
size: 352 x 240
bit rate: 200 Kbps
keyframe freq: 1 sec
Am I doing something wrong? My encoding machine is a Gateway Pentium 4, 2 GHz with 1
GByte RAM, Windows XP Service Pack 2.
Video capture is done with a Pinnacle 510-USB peripheral,
Pinnacle driver 4.0.46.0.
Here's how I observe the problem: my input video is a color
bar pattern with burned-in time code. When I switch frame rates
from 29.97 fps to 1 fps, I see each and every frame appear in the
Media Encoder monitor window (as verified by looking at the
burned-in frame counter). However, only one 1 frame per second is
rendered. For example, I first see 01:00:00:01, then 1 second later
I see 01:00:00:02, then 1 second after that: 01:00:00:03, etc.
After several seconds, I then begin to see the burned-in time
code jumping in 1 second counts -- the expected behavior:
01:00:20:13, next second: 01:00:21:13, next second: 01:00:22:13,
etc.
The problem occurs when switching from any rate lower than my
source video rate of 29.97 fps, it's just that it's easier to
describe what happens at the lower 1 fps rate. -
I would like to know If I will be able to record(using quick time player) both audio and video on my mac with head phones connected
My Mac - OSX Version 10.9.3 , Processor 1.8GHz Intel core i5, Memory 4GB 1600 Mhz DDR3Hi Sansony,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand you would like to record audio from the headphones you connected to your computer. When recording audio with QuickTime Player, you can choose to use the built-in microphone, an external microphone you’ve connected, or a microphone from a connected Apple display. Please use the following article as a reference.
Mac Basics: QuickTime Player creates, plays, edits, and shares video and audio files
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4024
Clicking the triangle icon gives you additional options, such as letting you choose whether to use the built-in microphone on your Mac, an external microphone you've connected to your Mac, a microphone from a connected Apple display, or the option to simply use no microphone at all. The triangle also allows you to adjust the finished quality of your screen recording, select whether or not your mouse clicks are shown during the recording (the pointer is highlighted when you click), and to select what location (on your Mac) to save your screen recording when finished.
Have a great day,

how do I change the settings in quick time player to use less hard drive space when performing a screen record? When I screen record a video lets say from vimeo, QTP seems to use a lot of hard drive space. Please help. Are there settings some where to adjust to slim down the video size? Thanks for your input.
I just did a short SR test, first I exported to 480p, then I saved the file. Now I have 2 files one 11.9mb (export) and the other 42.8mb (save). I then took the save file and performed an export on it to 480p. Guess what, it saved at 11.9mb. So it seemed to save me 3/4 of the space. Lets see what happens with a 17 minute SR. Thanks!
Any suggestions on getting the sound louder with the SR?
For anyone else ever seeing this post, for me the best was using an external speaker whether wired or bluetooth, facing the left side of the computer where the internal mic hole is. Good Luck!
