Quick time sound only for mp4

I just bought a refurbished IBook G4 (OS 10.4.6, Quick Time 7.0.4) For some .mp4 files, I get sound only (no video).
Are there any ideas on how to solve this problem?

I don't see a Movie Inspector Window, but I opened Movie Info, and the Format reads as follows:
AAC, Stereo (L, R), 44.100 kHz, H.264, 848 x 480, Millions

the irony of this is that the lost audio books is Steve Jobs biography!
Starting to wonder about the benefits of Android :-/

If you haven't been keeping a backup of your downloads (none of your iTunes downloads are included in an iCloud backup, apps, music etc are only redownloadable whilst they remain in your country's store) then you can try contacting iTunes support and see if they will grant you a redownload : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/- click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

  • Using Time Capsule only for back-ups, not as a modem

Hi, We have Comcast modem and router for internet connection. Is it possible to use Time Capsule only for Time Machine-generated back-ups of our Macs?
Is there any complication setting up TC for use as back-up only device?
    Thanks!

You can use TC this way. And it's very simple to setup.
Check out the setup guide here:
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/Time_Capsule_Early2009Setup.pdf
    EDIT:
I've just noticed that they've removed the section "Using Your Time Capsule on an Existing Wireless Network" from the new manual.
Anyway here is a copy of the text under that section in the old guide:
    To set it up:
1 Open AirPort Utility (located in /Applications/Utilities/ on a computer using Mac OS X,
and in Start > All Programs > AirPort on a computer using Windows), select your Time
    Capsule, and then click Continue.
2 Follow the onscreen instructions to join your current wireless network.
3 After your Time Capsule is set up, you can use Mac OS X Leopard to set up Time
Machine to back up the Mac OS X Leopard computers on your network. See “Using
Time Machine with Your Time Capsule” on page 27 for more information.
If you’re using an earlier version of Mac OS X, or if you’re using Windows, you can
connect to Time Capsule to share or back up files.

  • Quick Time Sound but No Picture

I just installed the latest QT 7.5.5 for windows XP, but I can't play any video! It has sound but no picture. I cannot play any trailers from www.apple.com/trailers/. I tried to play a mp3 music, its fine. But I tried some videos, no picture just sound. It's doesn't matter what's the format of the video, all the same, just a green background.
    Please Help!

    Hi!
I have the same problem. I can hear the sound but see no MP4 video with Quick Time player (version 7.5.5).
I had the same problem with Windows Media Player 11 but now when I installed ffdshow Video Decoder that started to work. But it did not help Quicktime.
And selecting safe mode does not help, nor selecting legacy codecs, nor trying DirectX chekboxes on the advanced tab.
I could live with Windows Media Player but... My Adobe Photoshop and Britannica have been designed to use Quicktime player... Thus I need to get mp4 work with Quick Time.. 8-(
If it is of any help to understand the case, the list below shows what relevant items Windows Media Player understands being installed on my PC.

  • Quick Time Pro installation for Ipod videos

I have been trying to download video files to my Ipod. I read where I needed Quick Time 7 so I downloaded it. It didn;t work. I was told I needed Quicktime 7 Pro. Bought it. When I followed instructions for converting my video files I received an error message saying my video files were not movie files. After discussing the issue with an Apple support person it looks as if I do not have Apple Quick Time 7 Pro. I followed the directions and when I open Quicktime in the control panel it has my name and unlock key and says Quicktime 7 Pro. However when I open Quick Time Player and go to ABOUT...it says Quicktime 7.0.3. How do I get what I paid for so that I can convert my video files and treansfer them to my IPod? Help!

QT Pro is not a separate application. The Pro key unlocks the Pro capabilities that are in the free version of the Player. You should find a preset for iPod videos by loading the source files and using Export from the File menu. Note that QT will not export the sound track from muxed mpegs, like mpeg-1 or mpeg-2. QT Mpeg Limitations
For those you will have to try some of the Windows applications that have appeared since the iPod was released. Here is the link for one of those Windows iPod exporters that should work with avi and mpeg files. It is freeware.

  • Quick Time Plays Only Sound... No Video

This problem only exists on ONE of my XP machines. For some unknown reason, QT will only play sound and not the video from a website. I tested this at Apples website where all video should stream using the QT Player.
Did not work with Safari or Firefox. I hear the sound but no video from all the Apple tutorials for example..
Furthermore, when I click to watch the most recent Keynote, QT tries to open but states that "unsupported media type". Of course, I'm like ***, Quicktime can't play an Apple Video! Something is wrong.
ANY help would be appreciated. I'm quite capable with computers, both Mac and XP, but this one has me baffled....Yes, I reinstalled QT 7.6...Thank you.

The first thing I noticed was that you used Microsoft Word to make your Web page code. Bad choice and sloppy code.
Your movies do not "stream" (they download) so the extra hint tracks are a waste of bandwidth and are not needed in the movies.
You are linking directly to the .mov files (also bad). Many computers (PC's) will simply try and download the files. Each movie link should be in it's own html coded page and should have the proper object and embed tags or the QuickTime plug-in may not work. Internet Explorer requires these tags to turn on ActiveX. Many PC users will never be able to see your movies without them.
Last is the fact that you've used the H.264 video codec in the files. This codec requires the viewer to have QuickTime 7 or the Windows Public Preview 3 installed on their computers. This leaves out Windows 95, 98, ME and Mac users running anything under 10.3.9.
Sorry for all the negative news. This is how most of us learned, too.

  • When playing a dvd made from idvd sound only for 1/2 of the movie

when playing a movie in idvd after burning it sound present only 1/2 of the movie. checked plenty of memory 74 GB left. checked sound imported as aiif files.
made a new theme no change.  can you help please
    Thanks

    Hi
    No audio on DVD disc.
    Most common origin.
    1. Imported audio from iTunes.
    • In iTunes copy out as an Audio-CD .aiff (Same as played on standard Stereo CD - no .mp3)
    • Use this in Your movie project
    2. Low - Free Space on Start-up/Boot/Internal/Mac OS Hard disk makes it hard for iMovie to work as intended.
Down to 1.3 GB and it doesn’t work - especially audio don’t migrate over to Media Browser
    (iM’08 & 09)
    3. Material in iMovie’08 & 09 - Shared to Media Browser and here selected as Large
large.m4v. It silenced out this project in iDVD. By making a slight alteration - provoking it to ask for a new Share/Publish to Media Browser and here selecting 640x480 - and audio was back when a new iDVD project was created including this movie.
    Minuscular - - 176x144
    Mobile - - - - - 480x360
    Medium - - - - 640x480
    Large - - - - - - 720x540    960x540
    HD - - - - - - - - 1280x720
    4. Strange audio formats like .mp3, .avi, .wma etc.
    • Change them to .aiff. Use an audio editor like Audacity (free)
    5. Main audio is set to off in System Preferences - Does this by it self - Don’t know why
    Cheque Audio-Out resp. Audio-In
    6. Ed Hanna
Had the same problem; some Googling around gave me a kludgy, but effective fix
Downgrade Perian from recent versions back to version 1.0.
That worked for me, and so far I haven't encountered any deficiencies — except it takes more advanced versions of Perian to enable QuickTime to handle subtitles in .srt format — that I have noticed.
    7. GarageBand fix.
In this set audio to 44.1 kHz (Klaus1 suggestion)
(if this don’t work try 48 kHz - me guessing)
    IMPORTANT !
    Before burning the DVD.
    • Do a DiskImage (File menu and down) (Save as a DiskImage)
    • Double click on the .img file
    • Test it with Apple DVD-player tool
If it’s OK then make Your DVD.
Burn at x1 speed.... (or x4)
    • In iDVD 08 - or - 09
    • Burn from DiskImage with Apple’s Disk Utilities application
    • OR burn with Roxio Toast™ if You got it

  • Quick Time sound

There seem to be quite a few posts re this, but not sure if there has been (or I understand) an easy solution? Have just lost sound on virtually all of my QuickTime movies (possibly since an upgrade?) Running QuickTime 7, and movies previously did have sound! New to Macs and QuickTime, not sure if buying Pro edition would help or not? Greatful for any advice that a not particularly computer literate person may find useful to rectify the problem!

well, excuuse me, I did a search through topics from the support page and this is what came up. Anyway, sounds like the same problem, regardless of OS.
So maybe that will be useful knowledge to someone.
Plus since it took 30min and countless times to get this stupid registration system to actually log me in after my account was created, I'm pretty frustrated!
And it wasn't easy even to find this "support" page.
    Thanks for the support.

  • Airport wireless sound only for itunes, right?

can it work while watching a dvd on dvd player? so that the sound is also wireless and does not come from ur mac intergrated speakers?

I was interested in this too, but AirFoil and now my memory say this is not possible with video, too much latency (delay). See:
    http://rogueamoeba.com/support/index.php?m=knowledgebase&a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=8&nav=0 >>
To put it simply, Airfoil is not currently recommended for use with video. Because of the way the AirPort Express hardware itself works, there's a delay from the time audio is played locally to the time it is heard remotely. Unfortunately, the issue here is with the hardware itself, coupled with the AirTunes 1 protocol.
We're aware that some users want to watch movies on their computer and send the audio to remote speakers connected to an AirPort Express. Unfortunately, because of the aforementioned latencies in the AirPort Express hardware, the audio will lag behind the video. At this time, it's not possible to overcome these limitations.

How do I use the Time Capsule for backup without attaching it to the Internet?
I have a slower Airport already attached to my cable modem. I don't want to slow down the Time Capsule by attaching it to that network, and I don't want the Time Capsule out in my living room by the modem. If someone takes my computer, I don't want them taking my only backup of it too.
I want to put the Time Capsule in a closet or an attic, as many people do now.
How do I get it to function independently of the Internet, though? Would seem easy enough. I want to just use the backup function, but not sure if it can be set up without connecting to a modem. If that's true, why on earth would Apple shoot its backup solution in the foot like that? Hope it's not the case.
Any guidance out there for doing this or confirmation that it's impossible?

Yes, TC will work without an internet connection.
Your issue with not have the TC network connect to your existing network means you have TWO independent networks. However, your Macs have ONE Airport card; therefore, you can only be logged onto either your internet network or your TC network. Therefore, you would need to manually change your Airport settings to log onto the TC network to access it or maybe an additional network card on your Mac (I don't know if this is possible). BTW, you will need to set up the TC to Create a wireless network.

  • Is the AirPort Time Capsule only for backing up Macs or can I back up additional files from SD cards too as if it were an external hard drive?

I'm a professional photographer and I'm interested in the most recent features of the AirPort Time Capsule. I process a lot of data and much of it never hits my Mac hard drive. Currently I back up to external hard drives, but is it possible to back up files from SD cards mounted on my desktop on to the AirPort Time Capsule for instant access in the future as if the drive were an external hard drive (in addition to being a back up server)?
    I appreciate input!

If your question is whether Time Machine can back up the data on the SD drives, the answer would be no.
The reason for this is that SD drives are formatted in Windows FAT16, which is not compatible with Time Machine, the backup application included with Macs.

  • Quick time won't play mp4 rendered in After Effects.

Since I upgrade to Mavericks i've been unable to play mp4 videos rendered using After Effects cs5. After rendering i get a file icon with the quicktime logo instead if the usual thumbnail with the play button; first indication that the clip might not play. Then when i try to play it i get the error message: "The document “MVI_7772.mp4” could not be opened. This media may be damaged." What do i do?
Any help would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks3e

I would not expect CS5 apps to be very compatible with Mavericks. You could try to render the file out in After Effects as a Quicktime MOV file using H264 and see if that works for you. If it does you can change the extension from mov to mp4.

  • Cant install the latest versions of Quick time and itunes for my new iphone

Had them both running fine for years and then I tried to upgrade my itunes and then the trouble started.
It wont install after i have downloaded it.
    Keep getting a very complicate error message as follows;
An error occured during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.VC80.crt,versions="8.0.50727.4053"type="win32,publicKeyToken=1fc8b3b 9a1e18e3b",processorArchitecture="x86". Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT:0x8007002.
    What does it mean?
I tried unistalling the old versions and removing itunes folders everywhere, disconecting the internet, turning off the firewall, removing the apple application support folder, downloading another new version of itunes.
But the error message keeps coming up.
    Even quicktime wont reinstall
    HELP!

    Hi Mary ..
Afraid not but if you decide to use iCloud and you're iPhone is running iOS 8, (according to your profile), hold off until you can upgrade your Mac to Yosemite.

is quicktime pro suitable for home movies?

is quicktime pro suitable for home movies?
That depends on how you define "suitable" (the editing capabilities you want/need to use) and what you mean by "home movies" (the editing compatibility of the files you need/want to edit).
QT 7 Pro does not add any additional codec components. It merely unl, ocks editing/conversion features not available to to base QT 7 player app. If you to convert, trim, merge, edit, mask, layer, and/or composite various forms of "compatible" data (up to 99 tracks), then it is a cheap alternative to full video editing apps/suites costing hundreds or even thousands of dollars. While it has many advanced capabilities and features, the utility often requires the user to perform many of the actions manually at a low or basic graphic user interaction level. If you are expecting QT 7 Pro to open files the base QT 7 player won't already open, then you will be diasappointed.
