Quick time streaming server future?
OK - I understand that the expensive Mac mini Lion server that I bought no longer has QT Streaming Server available , so what do I do? Is Broadcasterjust a tool to send a stream to a server? Where is documentation on Broadcaster to help me use it. QTSS on Snow Leopard has dreat user manuals, but apple has left us high and dry with their precipitous action this time. After my marriage to apple in the early 1980s, I feel like it left me and ran off with another animal (a Lion).
Will Darwin streaming server run with Lion?
I've seen conflicting reports on DSS on Lion. One post elsewhere here claimed that DSS won't work on Lion, but provided no details. This site claims that it does:

All I can suggest is trying it. Or if it's not too late, you could return your Lion-based Mini and purchase a refurbished mini with Snow Leopard Server; Apple still lists it in the Apple Store's refurb section.

Apple never provided much in the way of documentation beyond the Help files in QTB, but if you do a web search, you'll find some tutorials. If you want something more robust and more fully supported, you might want to look into a third-party product like Wirecast:

How to reset Quick Time Streaming Server localhost:8000
When I set up Quick Time Streaming Server using http://127.0.0.1:1220/ somehow it screwed up http://localhost:8000 I can no longer get any stream from localhost:8000 when I use iTunes to listen to it.
How do I reset the port? The localhost:8000 port works perfectly fine on my other Mac when I did not started Quick Time Streaming Server on it. It only caused me problem on the Mac that I started Quick Time Streaming Server.

Can Quick Time Streaming Server be used to feed the mediastreamsegmenter?
I've been using a combination of Telestream Wirecast and Qtss to feed live streaming content to PC and Mac users. I would like to make the stream available for iPhone and iPad users as well.
In researching this I found Technical Note TN2224 which talks about using the mediastreamsegmenter to take a live feed and to turn it into an segmented file for streaming from an HTTP server. The man page is pretty much just a little more detailed version of the Technical Note.
My question is this: How do I get the QTSS feed to the mediastreamsegmenter? Both programs are on the same server and it's not an encrypted stream.Hi Dave,

I have a problem with my qtss, i added a video file in the video folder set on my server but when i play it with qt7 the server says: "Unsupported Media Type"
the file is a .3gp file. I have also tried with a .mov file!!!

thanksMake sure the file is "hinted" . You can add this setting when exporting a video from Quicktime.

Quick Time Streaming Server Technical Stuff
well i need some help on setting up my own Internet Radio only problem is that QTSS wont show any Avaiable content on the playlist module thing where you make the mp3 play list and stuff... i have checked and double checked that the location to the main media folder is Users/**/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music so i really dont know what else to do or any other conclusions that may lead to this problem so please help and suggestion would be appreciated also recommendations to software better that QTSS for Internet Radio Streaming

Quick Time streaming Service wont start on Server.
We are trying to set up quick time streaming and quick time broadcaster so that we can share our broadcasts within school live to other schools within our county.
we plan to use one machine to broadcast/capture the broadcast and the server to run quick time server and handle the access to the broadcast.
At the moment I have a laptop running quick time broadcast and a G4 tower running quick time streaming server (internet interface) which is working fine.
Ive tried now to get our server which is running 10.5.1 to run as my quick time streaming server. but whenever i click on start service under server admin i get the error
Service couldnt start because RTS port 554 is in use or being used by another service
service couldnt start because RTS port 7070 is in use or being used by another service
service couldnt start because RTS port 8554 is in use or being used by another service
service couldnt start because RTS port 8001 is in use or being used by another service
Service couldnt start because RTS port 80 is in use or being used by another service
and the service instantly then stops itself again. I prosumed this problem was due to my G4 also running quick time streaming server and using up the ports so i stopped the streaming service service on the G4 and turned the computer off but I received the same error again when i tried again later on
Does anyone have any idea what i can do to get streaming service running on m server,

What do you think of putting a quick time mpeg 4 streaming video on dvd for demonstration? I found the quality excellent. Is it possible to put the mpeg 4 video afterwards from this dvd on a website? Crazy? Greetings MelIf you're talking about just using the DVD as a storage medium to be played on a computer thru QuickTime Player, the drawback I see is the bitrate or bandwidth requirement staying within the ability of the DVD drive to spin it out. Other than that, does a CD have enough storage for the size of your file? Reading off a CD is generally faster.
As to a website, a .mov file will play properly, A .mp4 doesn't always invoke the Quicktime player...
Or am I misunderstanding you?

I've dowloaded and saved a Dj Mix Session (only sound no movie) with Quick Time Pro and I imported to iTunes. Now I have downloaded it to my iPod color and I cannot find the Mix on my iPod. Is it possible to find it? I added it to the playlists in iTunes, I can see and play it in iTunes but not on the iPod.

Connect the iPod to the computer. When it appears in iTunes click on the iPod under source. Does the track show up on the iPod in iTunes?
Also, right click it and go to get info. What format is it in?

Let's try installing using an installer from the website rather than using Apple Software Update:

When checking for Quick Time updates, I continue to get the following response. "A Connection with the Quick Time software server could not be established. This computer may be having trouble accessing the internet or the server may be off-line." I have received this response since Dec 23, 2005.
Same here, I suspect that the update server is just plain broken. I actually sniffed on the wire, and what happens is that a request goes out to

And the server then responds with an empty answer (Content-Length: 0) of type application/x-quicktime-response.
And that's all that ever happens. If memory serves me right this never worked as far as I can remember.
Ob disclosure: I'm behind a firewall/proxy/web-filter, but when stuff is blocked I normally get an error-message from the proxy.

How do I stream live video on my website or via Quick Time?
Okay, so I've searched these discussions and have found many people with the same question going unanswered.
Basically. Our dog is at home, just out from surgery and we want to keep an eye on him from work.
I've downloaded Quick Time Broadcaster to our MacBook and am using the built in iSight camera on it. I am able to broadcast via the application "Quick Time Broadcaster" and have been able to view the live video stream through Quick Time player from a second computer in our home. But I am unable to view the video at work using the same URL generated from QT Broadcaster. Maybe it's a firewall issue?
But more so... I'd like to embed the stream into my personal website. What do I need to do to set that up? I've also downloaded and setup Darwin Streaming Server, but it doesn't make much sense to me at this stage in time as to how to get that running and linked up through my personal web site. Anyone know how to set that up? So I can do something like www.mysitename.com/petcam
I'd like to be able to view the video via the web using an address similar to something like that, but via my personal web domain.
Worse case... I'd like to at least be able to watch the stream via Quick Time player from work... like I can from home. Any work arounds or steps I'm missing so I can view this at home? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I did read about EvoCam in another thread here. I was hoping it would of been as easy as writting some code into an HTML doc and uploading it to my webserver with the proper IP link. Guess it's not quite that simple... or complicated. I was also hoping to be cheap and not have to buy anything. The price of EvoCam at $25 bucks isn't so bad. I'll look into it when I get home this evening. There were also a few other applications at that link that seem to do the same thing. Wondering if they'll all give me the same results? Or is EvoCam the cure all with the best results and options...?
