Quick Time Virus?

Even after re-installing Duick Time several times and getting the newest version, a screen appears on my PC reading, "Some of your Quick Time software is out of date. You can fix this problem by updating to the latest version." When I click on "Do it now," my computer freezes up ....every time. Help me!

hmmmmm.
let's try swapping out your QuickTime again, taking a few additional precautions this time.
first, uninstall your QuickTime from Add/Remove one more time.
next, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Next, we’ll manually remove leftover program files and folders.
1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
3. Open Program Files.
4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
7. Restart your computer.
now try another QuickTime install. does it go through properly? if so, do you still get the message when you try to launch it?

  • Quick time Player has encountered a problem and needs to close

    Hello,
I am getting this message and it is driving me bonkers!
"quick time Player has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience".
Am running XP. Have uninstalled all Apple programs (QT, iTunes, update, bonjour, etc and in the order Apple recommends.) I re-installed QuickTime again.
    Same Problem.
Went to the control panel and launched the quicktime control panel.
QuickTime Preferences comes up. If i choose the "files type" tab this error comes up in a window:
    RUNDLL
An exception occurred while trying to run "C:\WINDOWS\system32\shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTSystem\QuickTime.cpl",QuickTime"
Clicking on this just closes the window.
Some one on another post mentioned something about another codex takinhg the place of an original. How do I find if this is causing it if only to shut down that avenue of conceren?
This has taken up SOOO much time I can't tell you and I can't use my iPhone or iTouch until I get it sorted.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Good work, craigeed. That's enough information (of precisely the right type) to suggest that you don't have a codec pack issue. If you had a codec pack problem, usually you'd get a rundll error if you just tried to open the control panel (and you're getting further in than that). Also, the rundll error for a codec pack problem would indicate that your QuickTime.cpl is lurking in the wrong place (down in the \system32\ directory). Your message is showing that your QuickTime.cpl is in precisely the correct location.
So we'd better start checking on some other possibilities.
The "QuickTime has encountered an error" message is pretty generic, but on at least some versions of QuickTime 7.x it has suggested malware problems. So we'd better try getting that off the table.
Download fresh definitions and run vigorous virus and antispyware scans. If your security software providers offer them, try backing that up with an online virus scan. (That can sometimes pick up an infection even if the security software on the PC has been compromised.)
Do the scans show up any problems? If so, does fixing them help with the QuickTime error?

  • Error Message 3 Quick Time failed to install

I have tried every way I know possible to download iTunes. I have loaded Quicktime stand alone, I have loaded iTunes to my hard drive and tried to start the install from there and not the internet. I have turned off all firewalls and virus/spyware software. I continue to get Error Message 3, Quick Time failed to install. I am very frustrated with this problem as well as the run around I'm getting from Apple. I can't even update my iPod. I thought my iPod purchase was going to be great. But after the short battery life issue and now the software issue. I am starting to re-think my purchase. Does anyone have a solution to the software problem that works??? Apple even tried to blame the problem on my computer. I see from all the people that have this problem in this forum it is not my computer. Please help if you can...Thanks, M

  • ITunes (as well as Quick Time) doesn't work

Just bought an iPod (Classic Video 160GB) and tried to install iTunes 7.5 (incl. QuickTime 7.3).
Installation goes perfectly well. However, when I try to start the programs, the problems begin.
QuickTime gives me a 'Buffer Overrun' when I try to start the program.
    +Buffer overrun detected!+
    +Program: C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QuickTimePlayer.exe+
+A buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the program's internal state. The program cannot safely continue execution and must now be terminated.+
I tried to uninstall Quicktime but this doesn't work as the (un)installation program does a rollback at the end of the uninstallation not completing the uninstallation (even reversing it if I'm not mistaking). Have tried uninstalling it with Zsoft Uninstaller and Revo Uninstaller without success.
iTunes on the other hand gives an error as well. It's one of those errors in which Windows asks you if you want to send a report. If I do, the 'Microsoft Solution Website' tells me that I haven't got the latest version of iTunes, not true offcourse.

    What I already tried:
    -Uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes
-Deleting all temp-files through disk cleanup as well as manually
-I have Windows XP, _fully updated_
-Running multiple anti-virus and anti-spyware programs
-Ridding my C:\Windows\system32\ directory of any Quicktime files other than QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx (as suggested in the QuickTime-forum)
-Installing an older version of QuickTime (obviously didn't work because a newer version is already installed.
-Cleaning my Registry with Abexo Free Registry Cleaner
For your information, have never used or tried to install iTunes on my laptop before. I have had QuickTime on my laptop in the past but installed the Quick Time Alternative instead (which I uninstalled yesterday, hoping that would solve the problem).
As I have tried to find a solution to my problems all day now and am not able to find any answers, I hope someone here will point me in the right direction..!! Thank you very much in advance!

OK you need to uninstall AVI and Ace Mega codec pack and you have already uninstalled Quicktime alternative.
Once you ahve uninstalled the codec packs
    Download the stand alone Quicktime:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
Now Remove Quicktime using the method here (just Quicktime):
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93698
    Or for Vista
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305409
When you come to your C:\Windows\system32\ folder you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.
    Restart you computer
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check if it starts.
If it does you are in a position to find out if iTunes is OK.

  • Quick Time - H264 File encoded at 25.01FPS, but settings at 29.97 FPS Progressive NTSC. Anyone similar issue?

I work on Mac Platform. I recently encoded two 30 sec videos in Quick Time format with H264 codec. Original project is 29.97FPS Progressive NTSC 1920x1080. I encoded as usual using the same specifications. When the Quick Time was encoded, the final movie was at 25.01 FPS. Very strange. I revised my encoding settings and nothing had been changed from the original sequence.
This happened encoding directly in Premier Pro as well as sending over to Media Encoder. I then encoded the video as an MP4 and it turned out fine at 29.97 FPS. Has anyone experienced this kind of problem?

You are welcome. I'm glad you got it back up.
    (1) You say you did the symbolic link. I will assume this is set correctly; it's very important that it is.
    (2) I don't know what you mean by "Been feeding the [email protected] for several weeks now, 700 emails each day at least." After the initial training period, SpamAssassin doesn't learn from mail it has already processed correctly. At this point, you only need to teach SpamAssassin when it is wrong. [email protected] should only be getting spam that is being passed as clean. Likewise, [email protected] should only be getting legitimate mail that is being flagged as junk. You are redirecting mail to both [email protected] and [email protected] ... right? SpamAssassin needs both.
    (3) Next, as I said before, you need to implement those "Frontline spam defense for Mac OS X Server." Once you have that done and issue "postfix reload" you can look at your SMTP log in Server Admin and watch as Postfix blocks one piece of junk mail after another. It's kind of cool.
    (4) Add some SARE rules:
Visit http://www.rulesemporium.com/rules.htm and download the following rules:
    70sareadult.cf
    70saregenlsubj0.cf
    70sareheader0.cf
    70sarehtml0.cf
    70sareobfu0.cf
    70sareoem.cf
    70sarespoof.cf
    70sarestocks.cf
    70sareunsub.cf
    72sare_redirectpost
Visit http://www.rulesemporium.com/other-rules.htm and download the following rules:
    backhair.cf
    bogus-virus-warnings.cf
    chickenpox.cf
    weeds.cf
    Copy these rules to /etc/mail/spamassassin/
Then stop and restart mail services.
There are other things you can do, and you'll find differing opinions about such things. In general, I think implementing the "Frontline spam defense for Mac OS X Server" and adding the SARE rules will help a lot. Good luck!

  • Can't install Quick Time (VBScript error)

I recently got a new computer and I have a kodak digital camera that also records small videos. I installed the kodak software and I tried to play a video it told me I needed to install Quick Time, so I tried to download it and when it was finished downloading I got the following message. "ITunes could not be installed because Visual Basic Script in not installed or has been disabled. Make sure VBScript is installed, turn off script blocking in anti-virus and personal firewall software, re-register VBScript and then install ITunes"
Could someone help me, I have no clue how to fix the problem.

  • How to enable Quick Time Export in photoshopCS5?

    Hi..
I m trying to render a time lapse video on PS CS5 and the process works well up until the export window. When i go there the first option under file options, quick time export, is unavailable( grayed out). The only available option is Image sequence. What do i have to do to enable the quicktime movie creation or any other movie format for that matter?
    i am using photoshop cs5..
    my operating system is windows7.
    Thanks in advance.

This usually means that the relevant auxiliary components (qtserver32.exe etc.) were not launched/ initialized due to being blocked by some external influence liek a virus scanner or a firewall or the user not having sufficient privileges to launch system level services and load drivers... and of course you will need to install Quicktime in the first place.

  • Problems upgrading to itunes 7/quick time

I have tried to upgrade to itunes 7 and get a message regarding quick time...
"Could not open key:Hkey local machine\software\classes\...\CLSID. Verify that you have sufficient access to thet key or contact your support personnel"
Any ideas on how to fix this problem?
    Thanks

    lakeman,
Something is preventing the install of iTunes 7 / Quicktime 7.1.3 from modifying a registry key.
This could be other applications running on the computer such as anti-spyware or anti-virus software.
I would suggest the Empty your Temp directory and restart (some files may not delete), Uninstall older versions of iTunes and QuickTime, Clean up iTunes installer files on the computer, and Download (or redownload) the software from this article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976
During the install of the Quicktime 7.1.3 standalone mentioned in that article, turn off your anti-virus and anti-spyware programs. They are designed to protect applications on your computer from being changed, but in this case updating the software is a change you want to allow.

  • My computer has lost all data/programmes including Quick Time Pro

After a virus infection I had to wipe my laptop clean of all files including, sadly, Outlook Express with over 7 years of emails on it! One of these contained the information for Quick Time Pro which I paid to have in about September 2007. Having no information with which to log in as a Pro customer I am unsure if I have to pay all over again to rejoin. Can I still use the old password? How do I obtain it once more? Any help from other PC users would be gratefully received.

Click here for information on getting the lost key back. If it doesn't work, purchasing the key again will be necessary.
The username and password previously associated with your Apple Store account will still work; try using the information you used to log in here.

Thanks for your solution, it wasn't quite what solved the problem but i remembered that i had a bit of salt water on my phone recently and spraying the charging port with an anti-oxide spray solved my problem, do you mind if i ask, how is the charging port related with the volume or/and speakers?

  • I just bought a new MacBook Pro Quick Time 7 icon but how do I get it to work? Do I need to purchase an additional update?

I just bought a new mac book pro. It has Quick time 7 icon on it but how do I make it work? I am a student and have a quick time video I need to play but the video won't play. Do I need to purchase an update on Apple?

It has a question mark inside the quick time logo everytime I click on it
If you mean you are trying to play a file and the QT icon with a quesion mark appears in the display area, then this means the play has reached a programming disjunction and doesn know what to do—i.e., the player recognizes the content but something is preventing proper playback is telling the user it has a question as to how the content is to be played. In such cases you normally have to determine what content, what file container, and which player version is involved before you can decide how to best fix the problem.

  • Not able to watch .mp4 videos in Quick Time Player

    Hi,
I have a GOPro camera where the videos are currently stored on an external hard drive. I wanted to import those videos to iPhoto, which didn't work. Then I tried importing them without using iPhoto, but when trying to watch them I get a message saying that "Quick Time Player is not able to open the video.
I find this very strange, as I already have some GoPro videos in IPhoto, which I can view just fine (in iPhoto, and outside of iPhoto). The videos are shot using the same camera.
Also; Quick Time Player is supposed to support mp4. format; so I really don't see where I did go wrong?

What format is used on the external drive?
I suspect it's the reason the files can't be played.
