Quickbooks for Mac

Has anyone used Quickbooks for Mac?
I currently use Quicken Home and Business via Parallels running Windows XP.
Does Quickbooks for Mac have all the features that the Windows version does?  Does it function as well as it does on Windows?  I realize the Intuit website will have many of these answers - but getting information from users is far more informative!
Can you transfer data from your Windows version of Quicken to Quickbooks for Mac?

"Is it easy to convert my old Windows Quickbook files over to the Mac version?"
Here is a link to a web page that explains what quickbooks files can be converted to what other versions.
http://support.quickbooks.intuit.com/support/search.aspx?kbid=1000640
As for converting back and forth, I wouldn't recommend it. Here is what the Quickbooks people say about it: "When converting a company file between Microsoft Windows and Macintosh versions of QuickBooks, some data is not converted or adversely affected. This is due to differences in features, report filters and database structure."
I am a committed Mac User but if you have an intel based mac and you intend to share financial data with Windows users, it would be best to purchase Parallels or VMWare so that you can use Windows Quickbooks software on the Mac. In my experience, the performance is very good.

  • Quickbooks for Mac or Windows?

I need to run quickbooks for a new company I am a partner in. My question is...should I just run quickbooks for mac or should I install XP and run quickbooks for windows? I am looking for ease of use but I have heard all the good support and instruction guides cater to the windows versions and the mac version is lagging by about 5 years of innovation. Opinions?
    Thanks

  • Transfer files from QuickBooks for Mac to TurboTax in Windows 2000

How can it be done to transfer QuickBooks for Mac data into TurboTax on a Windows 2000 PC? Is there any kind of utility program or file converter?
I already know there is NO BUILT-IN SUPPORT in QuickBooks or TurboTax for import/export if the two programs are not on the same computer. Also, Intuit does not have any kind of utility or converter to pass files between Mac and Windows.
Also, I spoke to an Apple technical support person who said that Boot Camp will not support Windows 2000.
Does anyone have any bright ideas on how to get the data out of QB into TT?

You should really consider posting your question on the QuickBooks community forums, as if anyone has any experience doing it, you'll find them there.

You need to contact Intuit, from this page: http://quickbooksonline.intuit.com/questions-answers.jsp
There's a link there for converting data from Peachtree to Quickbooks, which requires you to contact them; clicking on that Contact Us link for that FAQ item takes you to another page where you select which product you have, so they can address your needs.

  • I recently switched to an iMac after 25  years on PCs.  I run a business that I have always used Quickbooks for, and I process credit cards through it.  Quickbooks for Mac is horrendous.  Does anyone know of a good sub for my purposes?

I need to find something that will do the job Quickbooks did on the PC- keep my books, do invoicing and process credit cards (in Quickbooks this is done through Merchant Services- works great on a PC but doesn't work well at all with a Mac.)  Help!  I need both a new software and a coordinating credit card service.

Visit MacUpdate or CNET Downloads and search for bookkeeping or accounting programs. There are dozens of them you will find. This should include a couple of Quicken products such as Quicken Essentials 1.7.2. One that is well-liked is SEE Finance 0.9.14.5.

  • HT4910 quickbooks for mac - does it back up by saving documents?

i had a scare and thought i had my laptop stollen. if i just set up documents to back up on icloud, does that protect my quickbooks backups????

No, Quickbooks data is your responsibility, back it up independently or use Time Machine to backup the whole machine.
iCloud is NOT a backup system.

  • Quickbooks'esque solution for Mac?

I need a software like Quickbooks for my Mac, but I am hearing terrible things about QB not updating to do anything to make it more compatible with Mac in recent years, it doesn't sync with iCloud, etc.  The guy at the Apple store said Apple wasn't even going to keep offering this moving forward, but was going with ____ other accounting program (I forget the name he said, and I can't find anything about this online either).  But...  I basically need solutions for accounting for our home and our small business that we run (need ability to separate out into 2-3 different companies we run, separate out by clients, projects, etc.).  We only need one unique user at this point, as I do all of our data entry, prep for taxes, etc.  And we certainly don't need payroll capability yet either.  This is mainly to keep our records in order, generate invoices, run reports, and have one handy location from which to generate tax info for our accountant.  I am not an accountant btw, just need to get organized and have an older MacBook Pro that I am trying to hobble along with.  Open to all suggestions and also want to hear personal pros and cons re: the various versions of Quickbooks that are currently being billed as "Quickbooks for Mac."

Apple doesn't include QuickBooks on the iMac in its current iteration. I suggest asking the question on QuickBooks for the Mac forum. QuickBooks for Windows should run just fine if you install Parallels or Boot Camp, or one of these other Intel based virtualization solutions on the Mac*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/macosxnative.html#WINTEL
However, you won't get the advantage of the Mac security when using the Windows version of QuickBooks. Someone on Intuit's forum should know how to make your migration as painless as possible to the Mac version and if there are any crossgrades available.

  • I want to use QuickBooks for my very snmall bussinesso the recommendation from my accountant was QuickBooks (Windows). I just do not understand enough to decide whether to buy QuickBooks for Apple or Windows and use it in the Parallels world?

I want to use QuickBooks for my very small bussiness, the recommendation from my accountant was QuickBooks (Windows). I just do not understand enough to decide whether to buy QuickBooks for Apple or Windows and use it in the Parallels world?

QuickBooks for Mac has been available again since at least 2004 (Intuit before that had done nothing with it for years). The current version is QB for Mac 2014. It's pretty much the same price no matter where you look.
The Mac version data is not directly compatible with the Windows version. Sending your data out to your business tax accountant and getting it back in is not at all easy. It's such a pain, our accountant comes here to finalize the books at year end.
There is still also a lot of Windows features for QB Pro which have never been added to the Mac version. They're all on the higher end side that larger businesses would need. I've never run into anything with the Mac version I couldn't do.
If your accountant wants ease of data transfer, then you'd be better off purchasing Snow Leopard Server and run that in Parallels. Then run the Windows version of QB in that.

  • Running quickbooks on mac

how do I transfer quickbooks from PC to Mac?

I assume that you want to run the desktop version of QuickBooks on your Mac instead of your PC (rather than the online version).
First, make sure that you have QuickBooks for Mac, version 2007 or newer, installed on your Mac.
    Open QuickBooks on your PC.
Open the company file in QuickBooks Pro or Premier for Windows.
Go to the File menu, click Utilities, and then click Copy Company File for QuickBooks Mac.
Choose a name and location for the file. The backup file must have a .qbb extension.
QuickBooks saves your data to a backup file, suitable for opening in QuickBooks for Mac.
Note that all data may not be converted from PC to Mac version. So please note:
You need to check the data integrity after you convert the file.
You should not switch back and forth from PC to Mac to PC versions.
You can upload lists to QuickBooks Pro using spreadsheets.
Let me know if this helps..

  • I have Mac OSX Lion 10.7.4, Quickbooks Pro 2010, Parallels Desktop 7 for Mac, Operating in Windows 7.  Are there any recommendations for running Quickbooks Pro 2010?

I have Mac OSX Lion 10.7.4, Quickbooks Pro 2010, Parallels Desktop 7 for Mac, Operating in Windows 7.  Quicbooks Pro 2010 is not responding or opening currently. Quickbooks does not support Parallels anymore.  I hear Apple Bootcamp is an opton.  Are there any recommendations for running Quickbooks Pro 2010 on Mac?

QuickBooks Pro 2010 for Mac is not supported in Lion. QB Pro 2011 will work, but I just got an email today that 2011 will not be updated to work in Mountain Lion. QB Pro 2012 will be updated for ML.
Be aware that the Mac version of QuickBooks is shamefully lacking in features compared to the Windows version. I do use the Mac version, but it has more features than I need for a small business, so it doesn't affect me. No one knows why Intuit seems to hate Mac users, but they show it every day.
If QB Pro 2012 for Mac can be downloaded as a demo, I would strongly suggest testing with it before making a final decision. You will be able to import the Windows data, but possibly not all of it, depending on the Windows version features you use.
Boot Camp allows you to install Windows on its own, bootable partition. When you boot to it, you are of course running Windows in every sense of the word. Just on Mac hardware rather than typical PC gear. Your Windows version of QB will work there without issue. The problem is having to boot back and forth between Windows and OS X, depending on what software it is you need to use at the time.

  • Any recommendations for the best strategy for converting 2007 QuickBooks to 2014 QB for Mac?

    Hi Everyone,
I am considering the purchase of my first Mac. Looking at the 21.5 inch. I currently use QuickBooks 2007 on a Windows XP service pack 3. I am wondering how to best handle the conversion. Do you think my QB 2007 would flow over to the QB for Mac 2014 or should upgrade my data to QuickBooks 2012 first? I don't do payroll and process retail sales transactions with Quickbooks so I don't think I'd have any issues with running the Mac version. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • Does QuickBooks Pro 2007 for Mac work on SL?

Anyone tried using QuickBooks Pro 2007 for Mac on Snow Leopard? Read several posts saying that 2009 installs but does not work well at all - crashes among other things. The Intuit site claims a patch for 2009 is imminent http://community.intuit.com/post/detail/dWQ6yILbWr3PKzacfA8pyY I cannot find a thing about my version, 2007. Anyone out there tried 2007 yet? Does it work? Thanks.

I have not yet upgraded to Snow Leopard. If I had, not only would I not be able to use QBP 2007 but MacSpeech, Thunderbird, Missing Sync for Blackberry, and my 4 month old Canon laser multifunction. I am awaiting SL compatible updates on all of this software before I switch. Canon may not have drivers for my machine until October. No one has given any hard and fast dates for updates. This software is critical to my business - Snow Leopard is not. I am plenty frustrated - at Apple and at the developers of my applications, but I am willing to live with that frustration and not jeopardize my ability to earn a living. SL would be fun but I am actually quite happy with my Mac as is, and look forward to playing with SL in a month or 2, hopefully. With regard to alternatives to QB, sadly, I have not found one. I would love to take my business elsewhere and have been trying software and searching forums for alternatives, but have not found anything that will work as well for me. If anyone else has found something else they like I would love to know about it and would switch in a second if I could. I read that Microsoft is phasing out MS Money, so even on the Windows side Intuit is the dominant application. Ugh! Well, that's how am handling all of this. Not entirely happy about it but still feeling very fortunate to have Leopard 1.5 and my Mac. It seems like the best course for now. Also feel very fortunate to have these forums and am so appreciative of everyone's comments and concerns. It's wonderful that we can come together and support each other. I also found some consolation in this article. http://www.maclife.com/article/feature/10reasons_not_upgrade_snow_leopard_rightaway
