Quicken 2006 freezes/crashes

Question

I only use Quicken to have a list of investments; I prefer not to use it for anything else. My "working" copy is named "investments 2006" and resides in my Documents folder. I copied it to that folder from my previous iMac/10.3.6/Quicken 2004 when I got the new iMac.
There seems to be a major problem either with this Quicken version or it doesn't interact well with OS 10.4.6. I can launch it. I can manually change the price on an investment. But I can't quit the application (File menu/quit) and it has prompted me to register at least half a dozen times. I can only force quit and if I don't go through the registration process, I can't do anything else.
I don't care about registering it; I don't want it to do anything online; I don't want it to remind me of anything; I just would like to be able to open the application, make whatever changes or additions manually, and properly quit it.
Can someone shed some light please?

No I didn't do that - the way I've always done it is to simply move over "my accounts 2006" which I've had since 1996 and just rename for the current year. It resides in my Documents folder and has been worked on through several different Macs, OS's, and Quicken versions. I just did a get info on it:
name: my accounts 2006
kind: Quicken data file
Size, etc.
I used to try to export and import data and it was always a hit and miss and would take forever; most of the time, it would not work properly. Once I got my first iMac, I moved all my files over via firewire target mode and this folder along with it. I just put it in the same spot I'd had it on the old computer and it worked great on the new computer even though I had moved up at least 2 Quicken versions.
And I did recently run Disk Utility as well as Disk Warrior - absolutely no problem reported. I also run Onyx about once a week.
And I did not install Quicken at all - this computer is less than one month old and the Quicken version on it is whatever was factory installed.
