Quickest way to change speed but not clip duration

I'm trying to determine the fastest method for changing the speed
of a clip already in the timeline, but not the clips duration. Primarily, slowing a clip down.
The best I've come up with so far is to put the timeline playhead over the
clip and hit X to get the clips IN and OUT points placed in the timeline. Then,
drag the clip into the Browser, effectively making a copy of it there. Then bring the clip into the Viewer, then hit APPLE J to bring up the speed change window, affect the change, then overwrite the change you've made in the viewer back down into the timeline where you placed the original IN and OUTS. Seems like alot of step.
Is there a faster way? Any change I try to make in the timeline itself results
in a clip duration change. The only other way I've found it to use the time remap tool put that is even more complicated and is alot less exact when trying to make something, say, 50% slower.
Any input would be appreciated.

Another, close but not quite there method I've tried is the TIME REMAP tool
that lives with the SLIP AND SLIDE.
I can affect speed changes, and see what percentage speed change I'm
trying to make, but it wants to change speed on both the left and right side
of the clip. In other words, I can't place the timeline playhead or Time remap tool at the beginning or end of the clip and only effect the speed of the entire
clip unless there is no clip adjacent to the clip I'm trying to change.
Otherwise it changes the speed as I want for 99% of the clip and then during
the last several frames I've accidentally sped up up those frames. I can't position it to just change the speed for the entire clip.

  • Any way to change speed of a clip without changing the pitch?

When I do the command-J and lower the speed, the pitch lowers which I do not want.

    I don't think that's possible.
Think about it: when you slow down sound you are also slowing down the frequency of sound, making it sound lower and slower. The only way to slow it down and not change the pitch would be to take little sections of it and keep them apart from each other over a long period of time. However, this would not sound like your original audio file.
I don't know what you are looking for. Can you imagine a way in your head to slow down the audio, but not make it change pitch?
The only thing I can think of would be to slow it down normally, then try to correct the pitch using one of FCE's audio filters.

  • Any way to change speed of a clip in "over-write edit" mode?

I want to change the speed of a clip in the timeline without having to lock all the other tracks or having to move the other following clips out of sync. For example I have a clip which lasts for 1 sec, which I want to change to 3 secs. Normally when I do this in the timeline the other clips on the same video tracks which follows, will move their position..... How to change speed in "over-write edit mode"?

I think it's even easier to just match frame the "source file"... put your playhead on the clip you want to speed change in your sequence. Then type optioncmdf. Perform the speed change in the Viewer, then simply cut it in... Might help to put it up above the older, use the double arrow selection tool facing right to move the clips past this change later... pull the upper track speed changed clip down over the old, and viola.
Gotta say though, it's a lot easier to perform the speed change in the Viewer, and edit it all in as you go rather than doing it after you've put the clip in a sequence. (not always possible to determine what the speed change should be maybe, but sure easier.... FCP 7 handles this problem a lot better for sure, and worth the upgrade price if your machine is compatible.

  • Best way to change speed of clips

Hey, I want to change speed of clips, both faster and slower in one clip. What is the best way to do that preserving the quality? I am still learning FCP so my apologies, and I had a hard time finding anything on here through search.

    Jerry's right...
    Take a look at this:
    http://homepage.mac.com/captmench/SlowMo3.mov
Two frames each of FCP and Shake at 50%. Use your arrow keys to go frame by frame. First frame is normal, second is interpolated. Look at the background!!
Creative cow should have the whole tutorial online soon... I'll post back with the link when they do.
Also, for time remap -- shake's got that under control too... but for now, look at this:

  • Is there any way to batch change resolution, but not pixel dimensions?

I was changing the resolution of my digital photos from 180 to 300 ppi individually as I edited them, but sometimes I would forget. Since I need the higher resolution for printing, I decided to automate that step by using PSE's "Process Multiple Files" feature. I noted that the Resolution selection was grayed out until I checkmarked "Resize Images." Since I didn't want to change the number of pixels, I left those fields blank.
When I started the automated processing I noticed it was terribly slow, so I cancelled it and looked at the resulting files. They had more than doubled in file size because PSE was nearly doubling the Pixel Dimensions! I don't want to try a work-around by "resizing" to the current pixel dimensions, because the processing still takes about 45 seconds per file, and if I've cropped the photos, the pixel dimensions vary. Is there an automated way to change only the resolution in PSE . . . quickly?
Also, I really wanted to double the resolution from 180 ppi to 360 ppi, but PSE limits my choices to either 600 or 300 or less. I've read about Scripts, but I don't think PSE supports them. I have version 6.
    Thanks for some help.

Thanks for your input, and you may be right, but I'm not sure. I'm still trying to figure this out. I know it's the same photo on my monitor, but I keep reading that print resolution (ppi) is different from pixel resolution (i.e. 2000x3000.) This is my situation-- I'm sending the photos to a publisher for printing in a book. The publisher did not specify a size in inches--in fact I think the photos will be different sizes when printed on the page. They told me to send the photos in at 1600x1200 pixels. I've heard that 300 ppi is the standard resolution for publishing, so to get decent quality printing of my photos I thought I should increase the resolution from 180 to 300. But thinking about the different sizes, it seems that the resolution (ppi) will change depending on the size the photo is actually printed. At 300 ppi, a 1600x1200 photo will be printed at size 5.333" X 4". If a photo is printed full bleed on the cover of the book that is 8" x 10.667", then it will be 150 ppi. So, I guess you are right that I don't need to worry about the ppi resolution for the book photos.
Now, let me figure about what I need to print my own 4x6 photos. My digital camera was set to 16x9 jpg, so my workflow is to make PNG copies to work with and after editing, save them in the 16x9 format before cropping at 1600x1200 pixels, then sharpening before doing Save As jpg in Book folder. I was thinking I needed to change the resolution to 300 ppi when saving in the 16x9 format so if I want to later make 4x6 prints, I'll have good quality prints. But you have made me think a little harder--what I do is choose the 4x6 crop tool which takes care of whatever ppi resolution is needed for that size print. Oh good, you have saved me extra work. Thanks!
(BTW, I choose the 16x9 format because I was planning to use the photos in a widescreen slideshow, but my husband wanted something he could hold in his hand--hence, the book . . . and a lot of cropping!)

  • Way to change speed of entire Project easily?

Hi, I know how to change the speed of an individual clip in the timeline - but is there an easy way to change the entire speed of the project? Thanks.

Hi, thanks guys - that worked - although it seems when I change the speed of the nested sequence and export it the quality is quite a bit worse (exporting it with the same settings) - seems to be a lot of jagged edges now. Is there something in the 'Change Speed' window that should be changed? I am creating a sequence and doubling the speed and another sequence exported with 4 times the speed. What is checked in the Change Speed window is 'Frame Blending' and 'Scale Attributes' (the default settings). Any ideas how to get rid of the 'jaggedness' that is being created? (this file was originally a .dv file - a regular export to quicktime from regular speed sequence looks fine. Thanks.

  • How to change tone but not colors?

    Hi,
I am a big fan of color fidelity - i.e. of preserving the colors as they were in reality when the picture was taken. I do not like for instance when a red sign in a building looks orange-red in my calibrated monitor. I have taken the steps to photograph the ColorChecker at both temperatures and create a profile with the DNG profile editor. In general, the colors look accurate, but once in a while, for some reason, the color is off (even with custom WB). This is a problem...
A related problem surfaces when I want to change the tone of a picture, be it because it is too dark or too light to begin with...or, a change in the contrast also. I am never sure if I am changing the color when I change e.g. the Exposure, the Blacks, the Brightness, the Contrast slider, the Tone Curve. As to what defines color, I am not even sure what constitutes a change of color: whether keeping the Hue but not the Saturation or the Brightness (in HSB coordinates) is enough to not change the color (at least its essence which seems to me is given by the Hue), or whether I need to preserve the Saturation as well as the Hue allowing the tonal changes to change the Brightness of the color only.
Once I get an agreement about these concepts from other people in this forum, then my obvious next question would be, which sliders or controls in which panels in Lightroom 2 can I use that would guarantee the not modification of color in my images (which might vary with the definition of color)?
It is very likely that I will get responses saying that the color is not defined by only its Hue, nor only its Hue and Saturation but by its Brightness as well. Why did I not consider that as an option to keep a color constant when making tonal changes? Simple: I do not see how I could change the darkness/lightness/contrast of an image if the HSB of each color must remain constant. If I keep all triplets constant in an image, then how can I modify that image?  Therefore I have deduced that at least one of each triplets' values MUST be allowed to change and those values are 1st Brightness and 2nd Saturation. Hue, I feel, is one aspect of color that must remain unchanged by tonal manipulations.
So, what are your thoughts on this, everybody?
    Thanks,
    Juan Dent

    hI,
Thanks for the responses -- and I understand your points. However there is at least a scenario where one needs to have accurate color in a verifiable way:
         reproduction of art works
         reproduction of printed photographs
Agreeing with your comments, how can I achieve the above tasks, accurately? How can I measure my accuracy?
    Thanks,
    Juan

  • Reverse changes made but not published

I’ve made three calls to Apple Care tech support who give me the IWEB support people but I’m not getting a satisfactory answer to my question. I built a nice little website for my pet sitting business using the IWEB application and was happy with it. But everyone complained I was not being found in any search engines and that I had to bypass the IWEB application and use an SEO tool to add “key” words into the script.
I started out OK, but couldn’t do the whole site in one sitting including updating all the links etc., so I saved but DID NOT publish. I now no longer want to try and bypass the IWEB app because its just too confusing to me to try and make minor changes when I want to regarding the content and now the links are all screwed up because I was instructed to bypass Apple’s navigation bar and put in one with the SEO tool. Anyway, my question is, how can I revert back to my original site (which appears to the public) but not on the IWEB files I have to work with on my computer?
I saved copies of the site before I tried to change it, but the Apple people say that the HTML files are gone and can’t be retrieved because I don’t have a copy on my IDisk anywhere. Not sure what that is. Other than starting from scratch and building an entirely new site, is there anyway to retrieve the html files from what I saved and be able to just copy them back into the IWEB application? I am a major computer dyslectic when it comes to understanding all this stuff, so I’m totally confused and would appreciate any help you can offer.
    Thank you very much.

    Welcome to the discussions.

No — only iWeb's Domain file can be opened in iWeb. See this Apple doc on How to back up MobileMe data. It says:
“Any websites you have published with iWeb should still be available within iWeb. iWeb stores everything in a Domain file, normally located in the ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder (although it can be moved). If you no longer have this file, you can view your currently published pages and manually recreate them within iWeb, but *there is no way to import published pages back into iWeb*. You can manually back up the Domain file, or use Backup to back it up.”
Consider using another site builder — weebly.com is a popular, free web-based builder which works via drag & drop in your web browser. Here are some links to just a few of the features Weebly provides:

If you have Downloaded and Upgraded to Lion See...
Here is an excerpt of the SLA; the Lion license (purchased from MAS) is NOT transferable. The SLA is quite clear:
    B. If you obtained your license to the Apple Software from the Mac App Store or on Apple-branded physical media, it is not transferable. If you sell your Apple-branded hardware to athird party, you must remove the Apple Software from the Apple-branded hardware beforedoing so, and you may restore your system to the version of the Apple operating systemsoftware that originally came with your Apple hardware (the “Original Apple OS”) andpermanently transfer the Original Apple OS together with your Apple hardware, provided that:(i) the transfer must include all of the Original Apple OS, including all its component parts, printed materials and its license; (ii) you do not retain any copies of the Original Apple OS, fullor partial, including copies stored on a computer or other storage device; and (iii) the partyreceiving the Original Apple OS reads and agrees to accept the terms and conditions of theOriginal Apple OS license.

  • [solved] Changing date but not time

    Hello,
I already searched the web but all examples how to change date involved changing time as well.
    date -s "7 April 2008 20:42:45"
    date -s "7 April 2008 20:42:45"
I need a script that does the follow.
    1. Save the current date
    2. Change the date to a defined one (but not the time because that conflicts with NTP)
    3. Start a program
    4. Wait for the program to be closed to restore the original date saved in 1.
How would you write such a script in Bash without changing the time?

Thanks for your replies. I did not know that time and date are inevitably connected to each other and that changing date does always mean changing time as well.
    @Trilby,
I indeed want to circumvent a trial-period. I am working on a Linux compatibility version of Prezi Desktop which is no longer provided in an official version. Many people contacted me with issues they are facing that I cannot testify as I do not have a 'Pro' account for which one has to pay. I generally pay for software but in this special case I do not want to pay for an account realising that in fact I cannot use the software due to compatibility issues.
As such, I already tried libfaketime but I failed to get it working with Adobe AIR 32bit on my 64bit system. I am aware that I am doing something that I ought not to do but I am not willed to pay for broken software.
    @moetunes
    [orschiro@thinkpad ~]$ date -s '7 April 2008'
date: cannot set date: Operation not permitted
    Mo 7. Apr 00:00:00 CEST 2008
You see, date -s would reset the time to 00:00 which is not what I was looking for. I want to save my current time to restore it again after closing the program.

  • Muse updates the changed text but not the images

    Hi,
So I love muse, but I have a big problem, which is that when I publish changes to the site (using BC) it updates the text changes I have made, but not the images.
I have tried everything, including deleting the original files and creating new buttons, I have created images behind the text buttons instead of having the images as backgrounds in the text.
Still nothing (I have cleared my caches and checked on other computers too)
    published site:
in muse, and what I want it to be:
The weird thing is that it updates the text, which unfortunatly makes it look worse than if it did nothing.
Any advice and help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
It is advisable to use the latest version of adobe air with Muse. You can download the latest Air from https://get.adobe.com/air/

  • Changing fps but not time

OK, i have to do a project that has to be done SOON, so the
    faster the response, the better.
Is there any way for me to make the fps larger but keep the
time the same? e.g.: a 30 second clip at 10 fps, but changing it to
30 fps while still maintaining 30 seconds

not that easily, you can change your fps whenever you want
but then you need to move all the keyframes as well.

  • Changed countries but not credit card!

I recently moved from the US to the UK for a job transfer.  This means I still have all of the same credit/debit cards from my US banks, but they are now linked to my new UK address.  I want to purchase more itunes, but in trying to change to an international itunes site, it will not allow me to use my US credit cards. Even though I have properly changed my address with my credit cards, when I go to input that new information, I get a message that the credit card is not valid in the UK.  Are you kidding me?  So this means that even though I am willing to change to the UK itunes site, it will not accept my credit cards--as they are US credit cards.  Every store in the UK accepts my credit cards, but itunes will not.  They insist I change my address to match what is on my credit card--and then they refuse to accept it.  I have no way to purchase anything further for my iphone from itunes.  Really?!!?

  • Changing speed midway through clip in Motion

I have an 8-second clip in Motion that I've animated and added effects to, and would now like to speed it up. But I don't want the entire clip's speed to increase, I'd like it to run at normal speed for the first 4 seconds, then ramp up dramatically so that the last 4 seconds play in under 2 seconds.
I know there is a way to alter a clip's speed in FCP, but that won't help me here. The clip I'm trying to speed up is part of a really complicated composite I'm building in Motion and I need each clip in the comp to speed up at different times with different rates.
There MUST be an easy way to do this in Motion, right?

Put everything in a group, clone the group, turn off the group, and apply a Set Speed retiming behavior. Trim the behavior to the section you want and set the speed you want.
