I have a Solaris box with Oracle client software already installed.
I have a 2nd Solaris box with the Oracle server already installed, and a
database instance called BEAP1 configured.
What is the quickest way to get a new portal domain configured to
use the Oracle database instead of the PointBase database?
I want to create a very simple portal that only has 4 simple portlets on one
page.
I also want to do the same thing with BEA Portal 8.1 beta.

Don,
Modify db_setting.properties file to reflect your oracle DB. Run create_db script
and verify that there are no errors. Modify JDBC Pools and Realm Class in the
Portal Server config.xml to reflect the Oracle DB settings.
This is the short summary for switching from pointbase to another DB.

Configure security with principals.xml

I'm trying to configure security in Oracle IAS 9.0.4. I have two applications into an OC4J instance. I've configured an admin user with RMI connection permission in the intance's principals.xml file. I've configured another admin user with RMI connection permission in each of the applications' principals.xml.
One of the applications is trying to connect via JMS to other's queue, but it can't. If I execute a Junit external test, I get an invalid username/password error, but from the first application I get an NameNotFoundException because it says it can't locate my ConnectionFactory class.
I've configured the ConnectionFactory class and queue properly in instance's jms.xml file.
I have two questions. First question is why I get different error messages depending from where I try to connect to? Second question is what's the better way to configure security with principals.xml if I want to share user's configuration across applications inside an OC4J instance?
I have to mention that with an OC4J standalone deployment I had no problem and all worked fine, so I suspect I've missconfigured something at IAS, but I didn't found any document explaining inheritance clearly neither principals.xml at instance - applications context.

We don't use principals.xml any more and have adopted the use of the JAAS, via our implementation which goes under the moniker of JAZN.

Way to configure ESSB_AGG and EXA_ESSB cube given by oracle to essbasse

Hi All ,
I am using Hyperion version 11.1.2.1.00.321 on the Windows 2008 R2 server.
After installing the latest version of the OBIEE (11.1.1.7) version, we have got 2 new ASO cubes from Oracle download folder (ESSB_AGG and EXA_ESSB) to configure between Essbase and OBIEE.
I have followed the below steps to create and configure the above 2 cubes in Essbase.
1) Created the ASO application with the name as ESSB_AGG.
2) Created an data base with same name and checked to allow duplicate names.
3) later went to the OBIEE downloaded folder and copied all the .OTL, .RUL, .DB files related to ESSB_AGG.
4) Replaced all of the original files in respective folders created at the step 2 with the above.
5) Came to the EPM console and opened the outline to see the ESSB_AGG outline (BI_Airline data base). verified and saved it successfully which is working.
Till here I could configure the given outline from Oracle successful into the Essbase.
6) Along with the above package, an .DAT file in Default is also provided for configuring the database purpose.
7) I am finding no way to configure this .DAT file to use with the created ESSB_AGG airline db outline from oracle.
I have tried to copy the eas00001.dat to default, matdata and Temp folders but wasn't useful.
Could any one please help me on configuring the data base and thanks a lot in advance

I am still in confusion of whether we need to configure any thing to get data or need to load in any other fashion.

What is the "best" way to configure iTunes on an iMac with personal user acounts so each user can access the media library but sync devices on their personal user account?

I am trying to determine the best way to set up our imac so each user account can access the same media (songs, movies etc.) through itunes and also back up and manage their personal devices under their own personal user account. There are 4 users on our iMac. Me, my wife, and our 2 children. We have built an extensive library of music/media together using the same iTunes store account. I would like to establish a seperate apple id and iTunes store account for each of us going forward but have the ability for each of us to share our purchases. What is the best way to configure our system and devices in order to allow shared access to media and at the same time allow for individual management of devices including contacts, apps, photos, etc. Please help, I would like to do this once!

OK, seeing as no-one replied (presumably because a lot of this information is on the forums in bits elsewhere) here's how I've got on so far.
Applications - just went through them. About the only one I needed was my media server app. Just downloaded and re-installed, had a quick look back though my email to find the license key and it all went on fine. Installation never seemed quite right on my old machine so solved that problem too.
Movies - New iMovies just copied across the clips and projects into their respective folders. Seems to have worked but haven't checked it all that thoroughly. Some duplicate footage here but I can trim this out at some point when I get a chance to go through here.
Documents - Just copied these across.
Photos - used an app called iPhoto Library Manager. You can download for free but have to pay to use the part that consolidates your libraries. Possibly if I was willing to spend a bit more time I could have got away without using this but given I didn't know the state of my different libraries and just how many duplicates I had this was too much of a convenience to ignore. Also got my library into a state where I can now spend a few hours organising it a bit better with Faces / Events etc.
Not attempted Music or iPhone sync yet as been stuck trying to solve a problem with my power adapter.

In Oracle Advanced Security Documentation it is mentioned that i can use SSL concurrently with DB user names and passwords. But when i configure the client certificate on the client my DB connection is getting authenticated using the certificate, which out passing user id or password.
We want to connect to Oracle DB over SSL channel so that the data packets are not in clear text. Also we want the user to make a connection using user id and password.
Basically we want SSL with out authentication.

I'm having problems in configure Oracle 11g running in Windows 2003 Server R2 with another W2003 Server R2 where AD is located and also KDC server.
The problem is when I try to retrieve TG initial ticket using okinit.
Output of okinit after enter password for PRINCIPAL is:

My krb5.conf is:

I can resolve full names of kdc server or BBDD server by .../etc/hosts and Net Manager has the rights values in KERBEROS5 parameters.
I don't know what or where to look for solving the problem.

If kinit is working correctly, try the workaround for bug 9450931: add "kerberos5" as service alias for krb5.
Another tell-tale sign is the fact you upgraded a perfectly working 10G install to 11G, and this broke.

Configuring Oracle EAServer 10g 10.1.2.0.2 with Eclipse

Am working on a JAVA/J2EE/Struts application using Eclipse 3.1 and am using
Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Application Server 10.1.2.0.2 for deploying the application. Currently am building my application to an ear file and then deploying it manually on the Application Server control to run it every time. Becouse of this am not able to debug the application through eclipse. I need to know whether we can configure Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g 10.1.2.0.2 Enterprise Application Server with Eclipse 3.1 just as we are doing with eclipse tomcat or eclipseweblogic so that i can directly run or debug the application from Eclipse instead of creating a an ear and deploying it to the server to run it. Am using Oracle application server for the first time.
I tried searching but couldnt find any relevant document /info on this. I got some info on configuring Oracle 10g Application Server 10.1.3 with eclipse,but none about 10.1.2.0.2.
Any help regarding this is appreciated

Thanks for your reply. Am new to Oracle application server. The version that i mentioned ie. 10.1.2 was already installed in my laptop when i got it for working. Am configuring the deployment and JNDI services after i start the sever and bring up the server control through IE after entering the username and password. So i couldnt understand the relevance of a standalone server at this point, and i am new to the name OC4J , why is it called so?(am sorry if am asking any stupid question, but to be frank i dont know any thing about oracle application server untill i came across it recently ) . The document that you followed is the same one that me too found while searching in net. But i couldnt follow the steps becouse in eclispe when i tried to configure the server runtime its throwed error saying it couldnt find any folder in the 10.1.2 installion directory named "...../home/j2ee" . But there was a folder called J2ee in my oracle installion folder so i just tried to map it, but it again throwed error saying "couldnt find asm.jar in j2ee/lib " . So am stuck up at this point.Should i go for oracle 10.1.3 or OC4J as you mentioned? Please give me some insights regarding this.

Best Way to Configure Multi-boot System With GRUB/GRUB2

Sorry for posting so much, but I'm really enjoying Arch so far! I had been reading a lot about Cinnamon so I wanted to try it (without installing the dependencies on my Arch installation), so I decided to install Mint, that went fine, and then I was hoping to add the entry to GRUB. I couldn't figure out how to do this, so I decided to try and install GRUB2 because it can autodetect other OS'. Well it didn't work and then I found myself without a bootloader. I couldn't figure out how to reinstall grub to the MBR (I tried the solution in the wiki and a couple of other places). I decided to reinstall Mint, and now I am booting into Arch through Mint's GRUB2. Two questions:
1) How can I fix grub through Arch to have that as my bootloader again? Nothing seems to work that I've tried.
2) What is the best way to configure grub or grub2 from Arch to allow myself options to multiboot other OS's in the future? I want to learn as much about UNIX as possible so I was planning on installing some other Linux distros and some other non-Linux UNIX OS's. I know this is a really newbie question, but I'm at a loss, I thought it was easier than it turned out.
PS. I didn't really like Cinnamon that much. I've been using Xfce and Openbox since I started using Linux (about a month ago), and it just seems too complicated! I don't like how little options you are given for customization. But that's just my opinion, everyone is different, I can see how it would be an improvement over GNOME3.

I have Arch Linux and Debian Testing installed side by side on my laptop.
Arch uses Grub (legacy) and Debian uses Grub2. The way I have set it up is to have Arch's Grub on the MBR and then chainload Debian's Grub2 from there.
Debian's Grub2 is installed on its own partition rather than on the MBR
This is the line I use to chainload Grub2 from Grub (legacy)
# (4) Debian chainload
title Debian chainload
root (hdX,X)
chainloader +1
Additionally just for kicks, I also have an entry in Grub2 to get back to Grub.

Note that the (hd0) above always points to the MBR.
I do not have to bother with one bootloader interfering with the other and the OS entries on each are handled separately on their own.
This setup has worked well for me for quite a while now. Before I started with Arch, I used a similar setup when I tried out various distros (Fedora,opensuse,etc.) alongside Ubuntu

1) installed Oracle 10g
2)installed oracle 10g oracleasinfra(10.1.2.0.2)

4) installed oracle AS adpter(10.1.2.0.2)
Now i need to download files for siebel...
I think Siebel 8.0 is not compatible?
i dont have access to metalink so i went edelivery.oracle.com website
i found there Siebel business application media pack(7.8.2)... there are 6 parts in that... i assume i need to download all the 6 parts aslo with the english language extension pack( also 4 parts)????...
Then what should be done?...
Remember i need to configure it with Oracle AS adapter (10.2.0.1.2)

You can do continous recording using SPAN ports or DMS with 3rd party products like Verint Impact 360.

I assume you have created the user and the required ATG tables.
After then create the file if you like to use ATG datasources.
