Hi can you tell me how to set the automator service for renaming, thank you.
start automator. it will give you a pulldown scrren where you choose what kind of workflow to make.choose "Service". at the top set it to receive files or folders and be available in Finder. add just one acton to the workflow
1. rename finder items.
at the bottom of the action click on "options" and check the box "show this action when the workflow runs". save the workflow. it will now be available in the right-click menu in finder.

  • Renaming multiple items!

    Hi!
I just recently switched to mac and i cant for the life of me figure out how to rename multiple items. i can rename singular items, but when working with photos i want to be able to rename by the name of the folder after uploading and sorting.
is there some trick i am missing?
(ps. i have searched discussions, and mac help to no avail)
    much thanks.
macbook pro   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

thank you for these suggestions. i tried one of the apps listed at mac update but found it just too complicated. I did not try the second reply suggestion, but it looked ok.
For anyone else looking for a SIMPLE QUICK way to rename, I jsut created an automated action with the Automaker. it takes less than a few seconds and will simply rename and add sequences. (though i cant figure out why apple just didn't make this as a preset)
the more i learn to use it, i find the automater AMAZING.
but still thank you all for your suggestions.

  • Is there a way to rename multiple Itunes songs at the same time

Is there a fast way to rename multiple Itunes songs at once, instead of renaming one song inside Itunes at a time? For example; So I can select multiple songs at once and rename each songs Genre all at the same time? Without needing to rename song by song?
    Casey Computer

You can click on multiple songs, and change info in the Get Info > Info screen.  This applies to most fields EXCEPT Name.  iTunes has never allowed the simultaneous change of Name of multiple songs, presumably on the grounds that it is usually an error to do so.
Regarding Genre, yes, this can be changed for multiple songs at once, using the Info tab of Get Info.

Is there a way to rename multiple desktops that have been created?

No, They'll be Desktop 1, Desktop 2 etc or the name of any full screen apps.

  • Is there a way to rename multiple files in finder at the same time?

for example, I have a group of pictures that I want to all start with the word "start" and be listed as "start1, start2, etc" Is this possible to do as a group versus having to individaully renaming every picture?

There are some third-party renamers, or you can use an Automator Workflow.
Start Automator and create a new Workflow.
Drag in a Get Selected Finder Items Action.
Drag in a Rename Finder Items Action. It will ask if you want to copy the items so that you don't alter the originals. Since you want to actually rename the originals, don't add that action.
Set the parameters for the Rename. If you want to be able to reuse that workflow for different things, click the Options button and set it to show the action when the workflow runs. From your example, choose Make Sequential. Start with a new name and number it after the name.
Save it so you can recall it when needed.
Select your files and Run the workflow.
You could also create it as a Service so that you can select files, then ctrl-click to select the workflow from the contextual menu. If you want that, set the Service to receive Files and Fodlers in the Finder.
Skip step 1 (or delete it if you are converting it to a Service), but do the rest above. Save it with a short name so you can easily find it. It will appear in the Services submenu of the contextual menu.

  • Is there a way to select multiple items in the open dialogue (ctrl+O)?

Sometimes I would like to open multiple items at once using ctrl+O, but in the dialogue, I can only select one item at a time.
This also applies to Firefox 4.

No, sorry. I suppose you could try running the files via Windows Explorer.

  • Is there a way to rename multiple form field names with a "b" at the end?

I have a two page form, both are identical.  I need to rename all the field names on page 2 with a "b" at the end of the file name so they dont conflict with that of the first page.  Is there any fast way of doing this without renaming each individual one at at time?  I have a LOT to do!

It's not possible with JavaScript. The name property of a field is read-only.
I would suggest making a template from the first page and then spawn a new page from it.
If you do it from a script make sure you set the bRename property to true and the form fields will be automatically renamed, but you can't specify the name, it will be in following pattern:
    P<Page Number>.<Template Name>.<Original Field Name>

  • Batch Rename Multiple files with different names

    Hi,
Is there any way to batch rename multiple files with individual names? I.e
    IMG_123 changed to  RSP45AS
    IMG_124 changed to MOL157A
    IMG_125 changed to AGKH135
    IMG_126 changed to MNOLH13
    IMG_127 changed to ASFBLUG
    Etc.
Are they any programs or scripts or plug ins that would do that job?
    Thanks

    HI there Onemorewave,
It looks like there is a batch remname feature included in OS X 10.10 Yosimte if you are planing on updating.
Rename files, folders, and disks - Mac Help
    Rename multiple items
Select the items, then Control-click one of them.
In the shortcut menu, select Rename Items.
In the pop-up menu below Rename Folder Items, choose to replace text in the names, add text to the names, or change the name format.
Replace text: Enter the text you want to remove in the Find field, then enter the text you want to add in the “Replace with” field.
Add text: Enter the text to you want to add in the field, then choose to add the text before or after the current name.
Format: Choose a name format for the files, then choose to put the index, counter, or date before or after the name. Enter a name in the Custom Format field, then enter the number you want to start with.
    Click Rename.
Note: To batch rename, you would want to choose the "Format" option.

  • Is there a way to open multiple files at once with the new download manager?

It was possible to do this with the old one by right-clicking and selecting "open", but I haven't been able to find a way to make it work with the new one.

I looked at the download section of the Library dialog, which you can open using either:
    * Show All Downloads
    * Ctrl+j
I couldn't figure out any way to open multiple items in one step. I can select multiple items, but... no way to launch them. Seems you need to double-click or press Enter to open a single selected item, and repeat for each item you want to open.

  • HT1451 when editing info, how do i select multiple items to edit a group? For example, changing the artist name on multiple tracks at once?

when editing info, how do i select multiple items to edit a group? For example, changing the artist name on multiple tracks at once?

Same way you select multipl items anywhere else.
Hold ctrl and click the items you want.
If they are in consecutive order, click the 1st then Shift click the last.

  • Selecting multiple items quickly in icon view

The Finder's Help menu shows only one way to select multiple items that are next to each other:
Select multiple items that are next to each other
    Do one of the following:
Click one item, and then press the Shift key and click other items to include them in the selection.
Click the first item, and then press the Shift key and click the last item. All items in between are included in the selection.
Click a window to make it active, and then press Command (⌘)-A. All items in the window are selected.
When you have selected multiple items and want to deselect one of them, press the Command key and click the item.
However, I often view folders in icon view and the second method above doesn't work--frustrating if you have more than a few items.
There are two ways that do:
Change the view to List and use the second method described above (Click the first item, and then press the Shift key and click the last item) or
Click outside of the first folder/icon you wish to select, then hold and drag over the row or area:
Hope this is helpful; it would be a useful addition to the Help menu!
(Oops, just found an older similar post...sorry for the duplication.)

    Thanks for clarification Rhys.
I am using slicers at moment to do multi-selects but was just thinking I was missing something in case of tiles but your reply suggests that this behaviour is by design.

  • Deleting multiple items in one click

    Hi Guys
My iTunes has been reset and has for some reason added all the songs on my computer twice = about 120GB when it should only be 60GB.
I'm sure there used to be a way to delete multiple items in one click but the only way I can seem to do it is by doing it individually after click view duplicates, this clearly isn't practical for over 5500 songs.
    Thanks for the help!

    Thanks for the answer.
If I understand it correct, If I have an invoice of 10+ items, there is no possibility to delete 5 items for example with one click?
I have to the delete the 5 items one by one or delete the whole invoice and start again?
    Thanks.

  • How can I rename multiple files simultaneously

I'm new to Macs and I'm looking for a way to rename multiple files simultaneously. These are photos from my SD card that I wish to give the same name but increment the name by 1 at the end of the filename.

A Better Finder Rename is perfect for this.   I use it all the time to rename image files.
There is also a companion app called A Better Finder Attributes that is also useful for image files.

  • Is there a way to move multiple Calendar items from one date to another?

Hello. I have far too many Calendar items every day in my iCal. Until I finally pare them down to a reasonable level, I need to "reschedule" all of my unfinished ToDo items and reminders, to another day, later in the week.
There doesn't seem to be any "Select All" feature available.
Is there a way to move multiple Calendar items from one date to another?
    Thanks in advance!

Still no ideas? Apple, please come up with a fix. Thanks.

  • Any way to upload multiple images without renaming?

The multiple image upload seems to enforce a renaming convention and the
creation of restricted user backup folders or new folders.
Is there a way to just upload multiple files to an existing folder and just
allow renaming or replacing of images, but still resizing? This procedure
seems to work fine on individual image uploads in an update or insert record
    behavior....
Maybe I'm missing something, but I was getting all sorts of directories
being created and couldn't load the new files with their current name into
    the directory I actually wanted...

    Hi Dixie,
You seem to be asking all the right questions lately!
Right now we do not have any way of uploading multiple docs at once.  We do have the desktop publisher tool that helps with automatically refreshing a report and uploading it, but it is still handles them on an individual basis.
However, with our next big release (planned for the middle of December) we are planning to add a new batch task to the desktop publisher.  The intent behind this is that you can set up your folder and document structure on your local file system and use the batch task to upload everything to your cr.com account.  This would include creating the necessary folders in cr.com.  You will be able to schedule this batch task like you do the existing individual tasks so that it runs once a week or whatever you like.
This new batch task will NOT allow you to refresh any reports before uploading them though.  Everything will be uploaded as is.
Hopefully this will help with what you are trying to do.
    Steve
