Quickest way to resizing 30 documents

I have 30 documents (all in all 400 odd pages) that all need completely re artworking to a smaller size - but not one that is the same proportions height and width. As a starting point I want to resize all documents to 50% - is there an apple script or similar software that will make this task simple.
Any help would be welcome.
Thanks

I would hesitate to let any script run rampage on this.
By far the easiest way is one of printing the document to PDF and placing that, or directly placing the original ID document as image, into a new document of the correct size. But that restraints you to proportional sizing only -- your 50% should work fine, but if you enter a different scale for horizontal and vertical, you will see text and images distort. And (since you might ask), no, a script would not help here.
There are a couple of scripts that place entire PDFs automatically (search in the script repository).
There is no easy way to reformat a document. The only help you can get is by enabling Layout Adjustment, and its use is very limited. It does its work flawless when done with plain text only (say, a novel), but as soon as you have images and/or tables in floating boxes, it does resize them (in a haphazard way -- tables are not re-fitted) but no way it can keep them "on the same page as the reference", or something like that.
If you are looking for the quickest way, and don't care about quality, go for proportionally resized PDFs (using a script). If you do care for some quality, do not resize them out of proportion -- and you can still use a script. But if you want to do any editing at all -- no matter how tiny -- you will have to resize and reformat the document manually, no way around it.

  • Creation of staging table - quickest way.

    Hi,
I need to create a staging table with roughly 370 fields. The sources' specs are not clear and some of the staging table's fields, too. So effectively, first of all I need to understand the staging fields and the source fields. The end user has been given some target date with some generic guess-work (not by me).
I would like to know the best approach to complete the activity quicker - at least, document all the staging fields and source fields. What I have now is one Excel file with four columns - Staging Field, Source table and field, Staging Field Type and Staging Field Length. Out of the total 370 staging fields, I have just completed 50% and the target date is approaching faster - I have not touched developing Oracle package yet.
This could be a generic question, but in order to meet deadline, could you please throw some light on the quickest way/tips to complete the mapping documentation (or creating the staging table)?
    Thanks in advance,
    Manoj.

Manoj. The first thing that comes to mind is the unclear specifications. (actually the first thing that came to my mind was that tables have columns not fields, but anyway......)
you need to clarify what is coming from the source system before you will be able to intelligently map that to your target system. you may have to push back on your client and tell them that the deadline can't be met unless they provide more information about their source system.
how have they chosen those 370 columns? how did they know these needed to be part of whatever process you are completing? if they know that these need to be moved to a target system then they should be able to tell you why.

  • What is the quickest way to incorporate a new template's styles into an existing template?

Recently my company have developed a new template. I am creating a document using much content which already exists in an older template with different paragraph styles, table formats and page formats. What is the quickest way to incorporate the new styles so I don't have to individually update the table contents. The paragraph catelog and tables have different titles in the two documents.
    Thanks,

Do you know where I can find a copy of Template Mapper? I went to http://ig5authoringtools.com/plugin-directory/single-sourcing/templatemapper/ and it is not there.

  • Is there a way to resize graphics to uniform dimensions?

I have multiple graphics in a FrameMaker 7 document. I’m using Illustrator CS3 to enhance them (adding text, arrows). The problem is, the size they are in Illustrator is not the size they end up as in the document. I save them as .ai files and export them to .jpg files, then import them by reference into the document. Some I have to scale down, some are good as they are. What’s the quickest way to get them all to a uniform size to each other in AI and in FrameMaker? Thanks for any suggestions.

I am under the impression that FrameMaker simply pushes the eps file  through to the printer when creating the PDF or printing.
That could easily be the case, except for ...
If FrameMaker needs to send a  non-embedded font to the printer, then it simply has to find the font and send it.
That's somewhat inconsistent with just pass it through.
If it is not on the system, I doubt FrameMaker does  anything to the eps file before it sends it; any garbling in the output  is likely due to the printer/Distiller not having access to the font  required by the eps.
This could easily be true. In my test, Frame (7.1 Unix) didn't complain when opening the .fm that contained an .eps that included Arial Unicode Chinese characters. It displayed the thumbnail, with the glyphs apparently present. It generated a .ps file without complaint. Curiously, I distilled that .ps to .pdf on the same PC that created the EPS. That PC has that font. The glyphs were garbled in the PDF. Hmmm.
This scenario is our workflow, by the way, and not just a test scenario. We author on FM7.1/Unix, but edit and create graphical objects on Win64 PCs (which product objects are usually EPS, often with text, possibly Unicode). We Distill on the PCs. Today's test confirmed why I have a rule of: either embed the fonts, or convert text to outlines. If you convert text to outlines, of course, the EPS is no longer "text" when re-opened in AI.
Others  have explained on this forum that Illustrator can (if you tell it to)  save the AI-dependent information in the eps file. So, the eps file has  the same information as is in the AI file.
As a recent member, I haven't seen that. Thanks. I suspect the same is true for PDFs saved from AI, but there's still the convert-to-outlines issue.
Possibly one could copy all the text to a new layer. Outline in the new layer. Hide the real text layers. Save as EPS. Now you'd have a portable print object with full original edit capability (and a few tens of kB more metadata that needs to be redacted from the final PDF for the sake of size).
It's easier to simply retain the .ai master.
We do the same for PSD, where the product is also an EPS, and has to be flattened for save as EPS.

  • What is the quickest way to find reports that run a particular DB?

    Hi,

    Hello Shanka,
If you are talking about Crystal Reports
I recommend to post this query to the [Crystal Reports Design|SAP Crystal Reports; forum.
This forum is dedicated to topics related to the creation and design of Crystal Report documents. This includes topics such as database connectivity, parameters and parameter prompting, report formulas, record selection formulas, charting, sorting, grouping, totaling, printing, and exporting but also installation and registering.
It is monitored by qualified technicians and you will get a faster response there.
Also, all Crystal Reports Design queries remain in one place and thus can be easily searched in one place.

  • ID CS4: Is there a way to resize multiple objects at one time?

InDesign CS4: I have a group of object frames that I need to resize (I don't care about resizing the content, I know how to do that) and I'm wondering if there's a way to resize them all at once to a specific size. If I group them and resize them it only gives me the group height and width, I want them each to be a specific measurement.
Any suggestions or know plug-ins to help?

If you don't want to use data merge or xml, you can also place multiple images in one action.

  • What is the quickest way to access the Settings on an iPad?

What is the quickest way to access the Settings on an iPad? (I mean, the usual cogwheel "app" called Settings)
In particular, I'm looking for a quicker way (or a more convenient one) to access it from an open application, than hitting the "home" button, possibly swiping the home pages, and tapping on it.
(I know, I know, I already placed it in the bottom bar, so I have it available from all pages...)
It would be great if I could cut another step or two. I mean, there are situations where I need to use the Settings app repeatedly. I wonder why it was not included in the iOS 7 swipe-from-bottom menu, while the "Camera" or "Countdown Timer / Clock" made the cut.
I know everybody will have a different opinion on what should be included in that menu, and choices have to be made, but still...
for example, on my Android smartphone the newer OS updates placed a shortcut to the settings app in the upper-right corner of the swipe-down menu, which is like the most prominent place you could place it in.
Anyway, do you know of one or more alternative ways to access the Settings app?
(Oh, and yeah, it just occurred to me that I can four-finger swipe it, if I have accessed it recently, but again if I access another app or two in between it will become at least as cumbersome as going through the home page).

Anyway, do you know of one or more alternative ways to access the Settings app?
Short answer, no. If you have a suggestion for future iOS functionality, use the feedback functionality found elsewhere on this site.

  • QUICKEST way from FCP to DVD

I need to know the quickest way to get a movie in FCP onto a DVD. What I normally do is convert the file to Quicktime, and then put that into I-DVD. The problem right now is that just converting the movie to Quicktime is taking 6 hours. Is there another way? My movie is one hour long. I have about 5 and a half hours to get it done. I hope someone can help me!
    -Angela

When you're converting to Quicktime, are you creating a 'self-contained movie' or a reference movie. If you deselect 'make self-contained' the export will happen MUCH quicker (referencing the media that exists on your computer)
This should work in iDVD as long as you have all the original media on your computer. Bear in mind, once any piece of media is gone, including a render, you will loose this ability with a non self-contained file.

  • Whats the quickest way to export packages, tables etc from one enviroment

    Hi
whats the quickest way of more loads of packages, tables, indexes etc. from one enviroment to another?
I did some things in apex.oracle.com workspace to test apex now I want to move it across to my xe installation.

    Hello,
    2 'fast' options really -
    1) Export of application + Export/DataPump of schema
This works if you want a complete 'mirror' from one environment to another of the schema objects
    2) Supporting Objects
Bundle all your requirements together with the application export.
The Supporting Objects feature absolutely rocks and yet very very (very!) few people seem to use it.

  • Quickest way to deliver TV News Footage?

(A little off-topic I'm afraid but surely this is the best place to ask!)
I have to shoot an interview with a racing driver who's secured a new drive with a UK team. This is to be featured on his home country's TV news.
I'd like to shoot in HDV and then convert to DV (assuming the TV company can use this).
What's the quickest way to get about three minutes of footage to an overseas TV company?
(Don't say give it to the driver - I already thought of that one)!

Of course you'll need to check with their requirements and capabilities, but many broadcasters and post houses (at least in the US) have been using muxed MPEG-2 files, uploaded to a host server. 3 minutes won't take too long to upload and even quicker for them to download.
I've been getting clips (60 sec spots for insertion) this way from an editor about 300 miles away. I'll email to tell him what I need and he uploads them to his www.BOX.net account. I can usually have them on my system within 20 or 30 minutes of asking for them. You could do the same with an iDisk account.

  • What's the quickest way to open Access Connections?

What's the quickest way to open Access Connections, apart from its Taskbar level meter?
I prefer to use the Power Manager battery meter instead, as it looks pretty ugly when both are used, and they take up too much space.
Fn+F5 no longer gives any access to Access Connections either.  And it is not integrated into the standard Windows network system tray icon's right-click menu, like Power Manager is with the standard power system tray icon.
You cannot even type Access Connections in the Start Menu search box, as the shortcut is called something else, which I can never remember.
Ideally, I would at least like to be able to access it though the Fn+F5 box again (I'm pretty sure it was possible in versions).

  • Most efficient/quickest way to set NTFS permissions in PowerShell

    Hello all,
Trying to figure out what the most efficient/quickest way to set NTFS permissions via PowerShell is. I am currently using ICACLS but it is taking FOREVER as I can't figure out how to make inheritance work with this command.
This has prompted me to begin looking at other options for setting NTFS permissions in PowerShell, and I wondered what everyone here likes to use for this task in PowerShell?

Ah ok. Unfortunately, my ICACLS is taking FOREVER. Here is the code I'm using:
    ICACLS "C:\users\[user]\Desktop\test" /grant:r ("[user]" + ':r') /T /C /Q
    However:
    1.  I can't figure out how to make the inheritance parameter work with ICACLS
    2. If I do make the inheritance parameter work with ICACLS, I still need a way to add the permission to child objects that aren't inheriting.
Any tips on how to improve performance of ICACLS?
    1. icacls folder /grant GROUPNAME:(OI)(CI)(F)  (i will post corrected code later, this works in CMD but not powershell couse of bracers)
    2.  get-childitem -recurse -force |?{$_.psiscontainer} |%{icacls ....}  (or u can list only folders where inheritance is disabled and apply icacls just on them)
I think jrv and Mekac answered the first question about inheritance flags. I would just add that you probably don't want to use the /T switch with icacls.exe because that appears to set an explicit entry on all child items (that's probably why it's taking
    so long).
For your second question, I'd suggest using the Get-Acl cmdlet. It throws terminating errors, so I usually wrap it in a try/catch block. Something like this might work if you just wanted the paths to files/folders that aren't inheriting permissions:
    dir $Path -Recurse | ForEach-Object {
    try {
    Get-Acl $_.FullName | where { $_.AreAccessRulesProtected } | ForEach-Object { Convert-Path $_.Path }
    catch {
    Write-Error ("Get-Acl error: {0}" -f $_.Exception.Message)
    return
If you're looking for speed/performance, you don't want to just use the PowerShell Access Control (PAC) module that Mike linked to above by itself. It's implemented entirely in PowerShell, so it's incredibly slow right now (unless you use it along with Get-Acl
/ see below for an example). I'm slowly working on creating a compiled version that is much faster, and I think I'm pretty close to having something that I can put in the gallery.
Since I wasn't sure which command would give you the best results, I used Measure-Command to test a few different ones. Each of the following four commands should do the exact same thing. Here are my results (note that I just ran the commands a few times
and averaged the results on a test system; this wasn't very rigorous testing):
    # Make sure that this folder and user/group exist:
    $Path = "D:\TestFolder"
    $Principal = "TestUser"
    # Native PowerShell/.NET -- Took about 15 ms
    $Acl = Get-Acl $Path
    $Acl.AddAccessRule((New-Object System.Security.AccessControl.FileSystemAccessRule(
    $Principal,
    "Read", # [System.Security.AccessControl.FileSystemRights]
    "ContainerInherit, ObjectInherit", # [System.Security.AccessControl.InheritanceFlags]
    "None", # [System.Security.AccessControl.PropagationFlags]
    "Allow" # [System.Security.AccessControl.AccessControlType]
    (Get-Item $Path).SetAccessControl($Acl)
    # PAC Module 3.0 w/ PowerShell/.NET commands -- Took about 35 ms
    $Acl = Get-Acl $Path | Add-AccessControlEntry -Principal $Principal -FolderRights Read -PassThru
    (Get-Item $Path).SetAccessControl($Acl)
    # icacls.exe -- Took about 40ms
    icacls.exe $Path /grant "${Principal}:(OI)(CI)(R)"
    # PAC Module 3.0 w/o Get-Acl -- Took about 350 ms
Add-AccessControlEntry -Path $Path -Principal $Principal -FolderRights Read -Force
Unless I messed something up, it looks like the native PowerShell/.NET commands are faster than icacls.exe, at least for modifying a single folder's DACL.
