Quickoffice on N97

hello
i would like to install quickoffice on my new N97.
when i tried to use my paypal account to pay for it, i was told that my email address is invalid.
would this be because i haven't started the email account on my phone yet? i don't want to do that yet because i am still inexperienced in the mobile, so the email section is a mystery.
also, how much space will the quickoffice take up on my N97 C drive?
i have 29.8MB free.
i don't think i will download too many extra applications except the new maps when it is released, so i can spare some space for quickoffice.
and perhaps some games, if i can find them.
i will start an email account on the mobile soon, when i learn how to make sure that during sync, the emails only go from the phone to my pc, not from the pc to the phone. i don't want to have my N97 as my primary storage for anything.
i have changed the storage for email on N97 from C to mass E
i have windows 7 on my pc.
can i download quickoffice to my pc and then transfer to mobile, and if so, how????
thank you

  • N97 & quickOffice - keyboard shortcuts

I have an n97 min and QuickOffice. The help file lists short cuts for, e.g. bold. But they need 'ctrl' key. Is there any way to get keyboard shortcuts in QuickOffice?

The suggestion to look on the Adobe site lead to the solution. This is the best answer from Adobe:
Solution 1: Bypass the keys' default OS-level commands.
Note: Use this solution only if your keyboard has a key labeled Fn.
To make Mac OS interpret F1, F2, and so forth as function keys instead of as OS-level command keys, hold down the Fn key when you press a function key. For example, in an Adobe application that uses F1 as a keyboard shortcut, hold down Fn and press F1.
You can also make Mac OS interpret F1, F2, and so forth as function keys by default. (If you do so, then you can still perform those keys' OS-level commands by holding the Fn key when you press them.) If you want to make this change, then do the following:
    1. Choose Apple Menu > System Preferences.
    2. Click Keyboard & Mouse.
    3. Click the Keyboard tab.
    4. Select the option Use All F1, F2, Etc. Keys As Standard Function Keys.
    5. Quit System Preferences.

  • How do I uninstall QuickOffice from an N97?

I just purchased QuickOffice and downloaded straight to the phone, which installed it on the C (phone memory) drive. All previous installation of programs have asked if I want C or E but not this one - according to their Knowledge Base (read after the event of course) it must be on C.
As soon as the installation was complete the phone said the C drive was full. After cleaning up internet history and cache etc I still have only 6MB left and can't see anything else that can be deleted - been through all this before!!!
I am already getting messages to say it cannot download my email, so, much as I would like to keep it (since I paid for it), it has to go, but I can't find a way to uninstall it - does anyone know how?

Thanks for the additional thoughts and for trying to help with this one.  These suggestions also were unsucessfull, although all are quite valid ways to uninstall it.  The matter is sort of resolved however, so I thought I would let you know what happened:.
As none of the suggestions for uninstalling would work I contacted QuickOffice support (and they were quick), who suggested the same methods but the program was not there in each case, to be able to uninstall it.
The only explanation appears to be that it installed on the C drive, gave the 'memory full' message and almost simultaneously the 'installation complete' message. It seems that maybe the installation did not actually complete and it 'backed out' due to insufficient memory, because when I restarted the phone, the memory was back to normal and the 'Premier" version of the program could not be found.  This would explain why it did not appear in any of the normal places where it could be uninstalled.  The pre-installed read-only version is still there.
QuickOffice are hoping eventually to have a version that will install on the E drive. In the meantime they have arranged to refund my payment.

  • Need help to fully remove QuickOffice 6

N97 cames with QuickOffice v4 that proposes a free upgrade to v6 ( MS Office 2007 viewer ).
After download and install it ( by the way that is another C: Phone-only application ) my C: drive decreased 15 MB !! despite "Installation Manager" indicates the product should takes "only" 4 MB.
So, I removed it but even after removal, 7 MB remains "lost" on C: drive that I can not find even with Y-Browser.
I know the download is there because if I ask to re-install the v6 upgrade, the download is not necessary anymore.
So, to avoid a hard-reset ( and not touch in this upgrade anymore ), anyone knows where this download (or anything else like these "lost" 7 MB from QuickOffice upgrade ) is ?
    Thank you

    Free-traps ... that is a good statement.
Remove an application is not the problem ( I'm using Application Manager for that ).
The problem is the "left behind" or "lost" files, that complicates the live with the ones stuck on small C: Phone drive.
These programmers could "left behind" or "lost" files in 32 GB E: Mass drive as much they want, but on C: Phone ... by the way they should not even be allowed there ( on C: Phone ).
Just to double-check the problem is real, I re-installed QuickOffice v6 and removed it and now it's 10 MB that are "lost" ( not 7 MB as previously ).
So, you are right ... here I go for my 2nd hard-reset, but this time I will not step into free-traps ... I liked that !
I think it's not only free applications that need improvement on smartphones. Even the paid ones need that.
    Regards and Happy New Year.

  • Full C mem in N97 with hardly any in it which I in...

I have not yet solved the full memory problem in C memory. Today was really bad. I cannot even send any smses. I have only Quickoffice as an application. It does not work if it is transferred to Ememory.
Is phone memory only 72.9mB in Nokia 97? Or is it just my phone memory that is saying so? E memory and SD memory are almost empty.Images and downloaded apps such as timer, flash light etc are in E memory.
    Yvehie

If you bought quick office and Adobe, you should have received an activation code, or registered your phone so would be able to reinstall and re-activate. Taking to a care point will not stop a reset removing software from C phone memory !!
The safest and most successful way to reset your phone is to backup Contacts, Calendar and Notes ONLY with Ovi suite or your Ovi Account , then as suggested , dial *#7370# followed by 12345 and then set up your phone manually. Install anything you can on E and don't install anything you don't really need on C.
The reset will give the maximum available memory on C, and as long as you have over 20meg left the N97 will work fine
I would also suggest installing a file manager like X-Plore Symbian and trying RamBlow to help with memory management.
A reset will take a couple of hours start to finish, nothing on E will be affected, and if you go to a cre centre the phone could be away for a few days/weeks and you would still have to reinstall your apps.
The reason for not doing a full backup and restore is that your current setup may be causing a problem and re-installing it would also re-install the problem !
Bite the bullet and give it a go, it won't kill the phone, would also re-install the firmware whilst you're at it as it can't do any harm. I've had an N97 for nearly 2yrs and have reset it on multiple occasions, including for every software update and to regain memory .
    Good Luck

  • Why Nokia is not listening to N97 users?

It is a big shame to Nokia that it even do not reply saying, we are sorry about the inconvineance caused because of N97, we are trying to fix it, wait for so many days.
It will give lot of relief to me because from last so many years i am using only Nokia, and i can't even think of others (may be that is what made Nokia so reluctent).
I had visited Nokia Care Centre 4 times after taking this phone (5 times i have updated my firmware usng PC with two times hard reset) but NCC do not do anything, i had given my charger adapter and headset for faulty replacement do you know the best part is both periphels came as it was, no change. F***** O**
sorry Nokia for loosing trust on you, somehow i have wait till my INR 31,500 get depriciated over period of time, uske bhad maine tumhe NO KIYA ( hindi I did NO TO YOU)

    Hay thanks Xploit,
You know i am really not having any problem with my N97 as of now (but unlucky me it started from last night after posting here
I work in garment industry, do you know if my customer not satisfied with my shirts he throws it on my face (remember we do not claim any warranty ) but as a "customer is the king" we do listen to him and replace or discount him if there is any problem.
Doesn't that sound ethical or professional to be loyal to their warranty? Many people complain about paying extra money for softwears (like quickoffice, PDF reader, Joikuspot etc., ) i am not complaining that because it is my fault to purchase such a heafty phone if it doesn't comes with these softwears, fine i agree because that was the deal.
But how can i accept a faulty headphone?
Sorry i just went on writing....
    But I love my N97.

  • N97 questions

Hi, there, I am thinking of buying a N97, but have the following questions want to know about:
    1. Can I change the battery of N97? or it's like iPhone that battery is sealed?
     2. can I remove the Facebook widget?
    3. can I store the map for GPS in micro SD card? or it must be stored in internal memory?
     4. can the email attachment be opened directly?
    5. can N97 support extended office document types? such as .docx, .pptx, xlsx , can I create or edit such files?
    6. I am using 6230, every time I change the battery or the SIM card, the time and date are reset to default and I have to correct them. Does N97 have this problem too?
     7. can I connect N97 to an external bluetooth keyboard for easy typing?
I would appreciate any one can answer my questions. Thanks.

It is removable.. like all Nokias
     2. can I remove the Facebook widget?
Yes, it is installable and removable like all widgets on the system
    3. can I store the map for GPS in micro SD card? or it must be stored in internal memory?
The ovi maps application (or ovi-suite) allows maps to be downlaoded to the device either the SD card or 32gig internal.. but not both
     4. can the email attachment be opened directly?
    text/html/png/jpg/media yes..
HTML emails are not displayed automatically and must be opened as an attachment
    5. can N97 support extended office document types? such as .docx, .pptx, xlsx , can I create or edit such files?
quickoffice provides read only access to recent micosoft formats and write/create with a paid for update. the quick office bundled with my device did not work at all.. it was a mistake to have had it included.. Any updates (including updates to make the viewer work) will eat valuable "C:" storage..
    6. I am using 6230, every time I change the battery or the SIM card, the time and date are reset to default and I have to correct them. Does N97 have this problem too?
I've not seen it do that, but I don't remove my sim very often.. This problem seems to occur on OLD handsets.. My 7710 handset started doing this about 3 years ago!
     7. can I connect N97 to an external bluetooth keyboard for easy typing?
The S60 driver can be installed, but it is not bundled with the device... look up su-8w for driver info
I would appreciate any one can answer my questions. Thanks.

  • More keyboard shortcuts to N97

Who can make, and how are made new shortcuts to N97? There are already shortcuts available using combinations with the Chr-button e.g., Chr + > = zoom , Chr – F = find in webpage, and more, so the code cannot be too long or difficult. For instance copy + paste that works outside the Quickoffice would be very useful. I could copy phone numbers from documents, SMS and e-mails directly to the phone call area and call or send SMS directly. This very practical feature was available in the "oldtime" 9300 and 9500 Communicators, but with the E90 that was laft out. I want it back!

  • N97 Memory Reorganiser issues

    Hi
Am really stumped. Everything I seem to do with this phone requires hours of trawling through forums. Am feeling like going with the flow and getting an iphone ASAP as my Nokia always seems to be such an effort... lock button now snapped off too...ahhh!
I have been trying to follow previous posts on how to manage my memory and have no "Memory reorganiser application" installation app present. I cannot find one to download on the website either. Not sure whether I have somehow deleted the app by mistake but cannot locate it anywhere that previous posts have suggested it is located.
    I have latest update V 22.0.110
The file manager says the following:
    C: Phone Memory  (free  11.8MB)
    E: Mass Memory (free 29.5GB)
    F: Memory Card 2GB  MicroSD (1.7GB)
Also, have cleared cache as suggested in a previous post.
Basically I want to be able to use the 29.5GB mass memory and not have to keep faffing with the minute amount available on the phone memory otherwise what is the point of having so much space.... it feels like I have bought a mansion and am living in a cardboard box at present!!!
Please help as I cannot update my Ovi Maps as there is not apparently not enough memory on my phone.
Thanks for any help and sorry about the long post/rant!

    Hiya,
(all of this can be found if you trawl thru old threads looking for n97 memory issues).
The N97 is still a very capable phone IF you're willing to nursemaid it a little. I'm on my 3rd year with this phone and still getting lots of use and all the functionality I want from it.  You're totallly right in that this was (arguably, still is) a brilliant phone wrecked by a stupidly small amount of RAM on the C Drive. Not helped by the way that everything Nokia (and QuickOffice) insists on being installed on that tiny C Drive. If you want it to work well you'll have to be prepared to put in some time in setting it up and a little occasional maintenance to keep it that way.
Memory Reorganiser removes itself after 1 use.
If you've made a lot of changes/moved things around/installed a few new apps it might be worth rerunning to regain 1or 2 extra mb on the C drive.
If you haven't run it before, try 'Software Update' (in applications menu) it should show up as an option to download.
If you have run it before, try 'Settings>Application Mgr>Installed apps'  and from the list shown hightlight 'Reorganiser Uninstaller' and uninstall that (that's the thing that uninstalls the memory reorganiser and lets software update know it's been run).  Memory reorganiser will now be offered as an option the next time you run software update.  This process can be repeated as many times as you need.
FIRST though I be inclined to sort out any other problem areas and use memory reorganiser as final 'polish'.
I'd be aiming for around 25 to 30 mb free on C.
    1. Ideally you'd start from a reset,
    2. Check your firmware is the best you can get (software update),
    3. Set messages to use 'E:Mass memory' NOT C
    4. Delete all the applications that you know you will never want (if you use application manager to  do this it's easier to spot which ones are saved on the C Drive). Top Gear, Tetris, Guitar Hero should be the first to go.
    5. DO NOT OPEN BOINGO! Create a sub-folder called trash and then move Boingo to it so that you never open it by accident!
    6. Don't install QT!  It takes up 13mb on the C Drive.  When you're downloading Apps from OVI Store they may have a message/prompt saying 'this will involve a download of 13mb'  that means it uses QT and is going to download it to your C Drive. This will condemn your n97 to the slow lane. It's a shame 'cos some of the QT stuff is very cool (especially the talking hamster!).
    7. Remove OVI Maps. Then use software update to reinstall the latest version (it's getting better and better).
More detail on how to do any of the above can be found in the pool of knowledge on this forum:
    /t5/Pool-of-Knowledge/bd-p/topfaq
(don't want to get told off for spamming because I'm repeating too much of what's already out there!)
As for on-going maintenance, just remember to turn it off once a week!
All of that will take time, from memory it was about an hour and a half last time I did it.  But the end result will be a phone that _can_ do more than the Iphone4.  The N97 doesn't like live updates on the homescreen - things like facebook/Accuweather will either be unreliable or will cause the phone to stall.  The interface can be confusing for the simple minded. And the phone will pause for thought every once in a while. Oh, and the Iphone is generally considered to be prettier.
In 'my phone is better than yours' conversations the list of things that the N97 can do will easily beat the Iphone tho.  If I feel that the Iphone owner might be thinking they're winning I just flip it open and shut a couple of times and then start typing on the excellent keyboard.

  • Is the Quickoffice editing version already availab...

Subject says it all really - I know the N97 comes with the Quickoffice viewers out of the box, but is the upgrade to a version which can edit Office documents available right now, or is it still in development? This is a deal-breaker for me - I'm moving to an N97 from a Palm Treo, and I need Word and Excel editing on the device.
    Many thanks in advance,
    S.

OK.....so, I followed my own link and saw that I could get OfficeSuite for only 20 euros. So, I figured I would give this inexpensive option a chance. I purchased it and it onlycost me US$20 and not 20 euros (a savings of over US$7 over the 20 euro price!).
I think I still prefer QuickOffice interface. But since I don't know what the edit capabilities of QuickOffice are - since they don't have a version for me and there is NO WORD on when they will - I can say that OfficeSuite is very usable and not a waste at all. For only $20, you get the ability to create new docs (word, excel, etc) and edit existing docs. The edit interface is difficult, but on a small screen, can you expect better?

  • Two N97 problems - just me?

I searched around the archives a bit but haven't found many (if any) people discussing quite what I'm experiencing on the N97, but I experience both of these problems a lot and they're very annoying.  I basically want to see if it's just me (i.e. maybe a hardware issue, or some software issue specific to my phone's setup) or if I'm just bad at searching the archives:
    1) There's a touch screen issue when using the web browser.  I think this is different than the touch screen problems that others have mentioned recently.  When using the Nokia web browser, sometimes the touch screen becomes unresponsive - but only for scrolling.  It still responds to double-tap (to zoom in/out) and the corner menu tap (to bring up the menu bar).  If the keypad is open, I can use the buttons to scroll.  But scrolling with my finger just stops working.  It will stop for 10-30 seconds, then start again on its own.  It only happens with the web browser, not any other program or menu.  I tried the DIGIA web browser, which uses the built-in S60 web toolkit, and the same behavior happens there, FWIW.  I haven't tried opera.
I really don't think it's a hardware issue, because it ONLY affects the web browser.  QuickOffice, Nokia Messaging, menu screens, etc - it never happens on those.  Just the web.  Also - I don't even bother trying to scroll while the browser is loading/rendering the page - I already know the phone can't handle doing that and anything else.  So I wait until the page is entirely loaded and all of the various garbage on the screen goes away before I try to scroll - so I don't think it's just the phone not having the muscle to do what I'm asking.
    2) If I type in a new task item on the phone's calendar utility, and set an alarm, the alarm behaves properly about 50% of the time.  Actually it can be a task item or a meeting item.  About 50% of the time, the alarm will work perfectly, just like it should. Sometimes, I never get the alarm, and the next time I open the calendar application I get a message that "1 or more alarms missed due to time change."  I've seen lots of people report this for other Nokia models, so I guess I do know this one's not me; just want to see if anyone has any hints on it.  I can guarantee that the time isn't changing; I don't live anywhere near a time zone border so it's not getting confused about that.  Also, when daylight savings started - it handled that just fine, so I know that at least in theory, it knows what to do if the time zone changes.
That's one behavior.  The other behavior is that the alarm will come up like it should, but within a few seconds (before I have time to get to the phone) it will stop itself - not silence, but actually stop the alarm so I have to look at the application to see what I just missed.  I used to think this was because the phone was in my pocket and I accidentally hit the button, but it also happens when the phone is sitting on my desk and not being touched.
Another variation on this is that I'll snooze or stop the alarm, and within a few seconds it happens again - same alarm.
An interesting point on this is that I use the PC Sync utility to sync with my MS Office calendar, and none of these discrepant behaviors happen with alarms set from MS Office and synced over - only on alarms that I type into the phone manually.
Does anyone have hints on either of these behaviors?  Neither of them really point to problems with the phone hardware, as far as I can tell.  I have the most current firmware I can install (v20), but the problems existed with v11 and v12 as well.  This is a NAM version of the phone if that matters.
<rant>As a side note, I'm about to waste my afternoon re-installing/refreshing the v20 firmware; I installed it whenever it came out and already the phones's performance is becoming intolerably slow (i.e. 2-3 second lag between selecting menu items and screens changing).  Plenty of free RAM and C: drive space.  It's like it's got Windows 95 running in there; after a month I have to format and re-install because the system is hosed.</rant>
    Thanks as usual!

Since you haven't really told us any details, your best bet is probably to start over.
Connect via Ethernet, turn Time Machine OFF, then delete everything on the Time Capsule's internal HD, via +*Airport Utility.+* Select +*Base Station > Manual Set-Up+* from the Menubar, then Disks in the tool Bar, then Erase.
Then do a "full reset" of Time Machine, per #A4 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of the +Time Machine+ forum).
Reselect your Time Capsule and let TM do a new, full backup over Ethernet. Once it's done, switch to WIFI.
If there's a problem with that or subsequent backups, see Using Time Machine with a Time Capsule (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum. Don't just hope it will fix itself.

  • Mail for exchange settings on N97

I have a N97 which mail for exchange was working happily on, synchronizing mail, contact's and calendar. The world was a good place!
The screen broke and  needed replacing on my N97 and  I have set up mail for exchange again. Now when it downloads mail, it downloads all of the other outlook folders inside my inbox as well as my inbox. It never used to do this and indeed this is not what I want.
How can I get my N97 to just download the inbox rather than all of the folders within the inbox on outlook. There must be some settings either on the phone or in outlook which defines what is synced.

Maybe you had earlier Mail for Exchange v2.9 in use and after setting it up again, you have got the latest MfE 3.0 version. The new MfE 3.0 version has as a new feature the possibility to view the outlook subfolders. These are, however, not automatically synced unless you subscribe to them. The unsubscribed folders show the mark (x) in front of the folder name. After you subscribe to a folder, the (x) mark will disappear from the folder name.

Problems with n97 apps connecting to network (Vodafone UK – 3G)
Recently a number of my apps which used to connect automatically to the internet (which ever was available – known wi-fi or 3g) have stopped doing this.  They now only connect to one known wi-fi.
I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling each app, but this hasn’t solved the problem.  I’ve checked for software updates and do not believe any have been applied or are available.  All apps have been downloaded via Ovi on the phone.  I still am able to access the internet by the web browser which was installed on the phone and via google maps (which also still manages GPS position, search, etc).
The apps which I notice causing a problem are:
    Sainsbury’s/nectar
    Tesco
    Map my tracks
    Snaptu
    Opera Mini
    Any one got any ideas???

I have the same problem since i updated my mac to 10.5.6.
Each time I have to do a diagnostic and retype the WEP password to have the internet connection.
