Quicksilver Power Mac Spinning Wheel Issue

I have a Quicksilver P-Mac 867mhz tower that has 10.4.11 installed. 3 days ago it was running super slow and I had to relaunch the finder. It froze and when I rebooted the Mac it comes up to the Apple logo screen with the spinning wheel and that is it. Nothing else comes up even after sitting there for 20+ minutes. From the other posts, I thought maybe the batter was the issue, but I installed a new one today and that didn't fix it. I have reset the PRAM and have tried booting up in safe mode. No luck with either item. Could it be the power supply? This Mac has 2 internal harddrives, the original 60 gig and another 120 gig. I have had the system for 5+ years with no problems.
Any thoughts on this issue? I would think the hard drives should be good since I do not see the flashing ? icon come up during the boot process, but I also cannot insert a Tech Tool CD to reboot and try to repair either.

When I try to boot up the Mac, it gives the Apple logo and then the spinning wheel kicks in and just sits there. I can let it do this for 10+ minutes and nothing changes on the screen. So, my problem is that I cannot insert TTP CD into the optical drive because it will not open from the keyboard command.
This seems to be a big problem not being able to open the optical drive so that the Mac would boot off of TTP to try and fix the problem. Any other thoughts?

Slow Mac, Spinning Wheel

Please help me!!! I don't know why but my macbook pro is really slow and every time it shows the spinning wheel. I've already tried creating another user account, but the problem keep the same, and i cleaned all my HD and re install the os. Here is the etrecheck results:

1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the behest of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:

Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.

4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start Time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

Power Mac G5 boot issue

Hi all,
I'm having trouble's with my recently aquired Power Mac G5. It's the dual 2.7GHz liquid cooled model, 2GB DDR-400 (4x 512), 2x 160GB drives. It all originally started with a coolant leak which seems to be a pretty common occurance with these models, however I repaired this (which included replacing the power supply unit). The RAM, HDDs and PRAM battery are all brand new.
The unit will power up when you hit the power button (i.e, the fans rev up as normal, the hard drives spin up and you can hear the liquid cooling pump running) but the power LED doesn't stay on. It only illuminates when you actually press the button. There is no boot chime or anything displayed on the monitor. The fans eventually speed up to max speed and you can feel that the CPUs are generating heat. The unit will switch off if you hold down the power button for a few seconds.
The diagnostic LED next to the RAM only illuminates when you remove the air deflector (and HDD bay fan revs up accordingly) and there is no obvious visual damage to the unit. There is a red LED underneath the CPU & cooling unit however, but I haven't found any information about what this one is for.

Just an update. I removed the front-panel board completely and started the machine by shorting the power button pins on the logic board. Unfortunately there was no difference to the start-up than mentioned originally so we can assume that the front-panel board is working OK.
While I was at it, I also tried a full PRAM/SMU reset by removing power and battery for 20 minutes, reinstalling the battery, pressing PRAM Reset, plugging back in and starting, but was also unsucessful

Macbook pro spinning wheel issue in Safari

I am currently using a macbook pro 10.5.8 version I've noticed that whenever I'm in Safari or Firefox and I start to click on things, the rainbow spinning wheel icon appears for a long time before the thing I click on is loaded. Sometimes it keeps hanging up and even crashes. Is there a quick fix to this problem? I don't have time to take it to the Genius Bar. Your help will be greatly appreciated!

Your operating system is outdated and insecure, especially Safari, you need to backup you files off the machine to a storage drive
Most commonly used backup methods
Then call Apple via phone for 10.6.3 white retail disks, it's inexpensive.
Next follow this proccedure to erase the entire hard drive with Disk Utility > Security Zero All Data, install 10.6 and then setup, software update to 10.6.8 (and stay there, don't upgrade to 10.7 or 10.8)

If your computer still has beachballs while offline, then the hard drive is bad and will need to be replaced.
You likely also need to secure your router, update it's firmware or replace it with a newer one (Wireless N) and properly secure it from hackers.

Spinning Wheel issues

This is a intel based mac pro bought in 06. I think it is running leopard.
Whenver i start the mac pro, as soon as the desktop opened up, a rainbow spinning wheel would come up and not leave. I even left it on for 12 hours, and it was still spinning. After restarting it, and running disk utiliities (view/repair disk, view/verify permissions) by booting onto the install disc, the mac works worse. It starts up, I see the desktop for a quick second, it has some error message about restarting after a mac osx error, and then the screen gets very weird. It has some weird abstract pixalated image/design on the screen. What is wrong?

Take out that drive. Install a new drive and install OS X ( you could / should have a bootable backup anyway ) and update just the OS fully.
Remove everything to get it back to basic way it was originally.
Run Memtest in 256MB chunks for 5 loops - you can load 50 concurrent terminal windows
And what changes or events recently?
If you have the old 7300GT or even the X1900 both of those are or should be suspect.

POWER MAC G3 FireWire Issue--Where to go?

I can't believe there's no place in the Discussions for blue and white Power Macintosh G3s. If you can talk about a 400MHz G4, I don't see why we're left out.
My issue: has anyone ever succesfully used Target Disk Mode with a PowerMac G3? I have tried it between two of them--never worked once; between G3 and G4, no dice. PowerBooks--nothing. Supposedly you can do TDM from OS 9 to OS X but I can't get two identical machines to see each other. I have 16 of them and it works on none of them None seem to need the FireWire updates either.

Firewire TDM is pretty much independent of the OS. However, it is dependent on the hardware of the machine being able to support it.
All Macs which have built-in firewire are capable of being the Host machine in FwTDM. However, not all such are capable of being the Target machine - specifically, the B&W G3 and the G4 (PCI) models do not support being the Target machine. Probably not a coincidence, both of those models are also not capable of booting to firewire.

HT2037 Power Mac log on issues

Recently, I restarted it and went to log on. Upon inputting the correct password, the log on initiated. About halfway through the lon in, it now abruptly stops and reverts back to the log on dialog box. How do I correct this?

RAM does go bad. Each successive release of mac OXS10.x tends to make a Mac "pickier" about RAM.
Did you try installing the RAM skipping the first pair of slots?

Power Mac G5- Display Issue

PowerMac G5 running OS 10.5.8 with 20" cinema display.
Changed the inverter board in monitor due to one long, two short flashes. No more flashing light.
BUT...
Screen resolution is funky. Have res to highest setting and MOST things look fine except that when I am on the desktop the icons and fonts are too large, gey bar on top of desktop (along with text) is too big. Checked the settings for desktop icon size, Universal access, etc. etc and everything seems to be in order.
HOWEVER...
I dove in last night and reinstalled the OS. During the reinstall the grey bar on top iof desktop (along with text) is fine and the windows that open are of the right size.
I am dumbfounded...any ideas?

Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions.
Move these files to the Desktop for now...

Spinning wheel spins but Mac Book Pro won't boot - got stuck there!- II

Last week I had this problem and I posted it in the forum:

The problem was solved by booting from the Snow Leopard Installation DVD. Then I updated the system with the "10.6.2 combo updater", and it worked fine for a couple of days.
*But an hour ago I tried to start my MacBook Pro and the spinning wheel issue started again. Only this time I can't jump start it with the Installation DVD of Snow Leopard. It seems to read the disk but doesn't actually boot. Remains on a blank screen the follows the spinning wheel one and simply remains inert there...*

It's quite possible. Many people who upgrade then have problems usually had problems before the upgrade. The upgrade merely made them worse. For future reference:
System Upgrade and Installation Procedure
Basic Caveats
1. Disconnect all peripherals except the original mouse and keyboard.
2. Quit all applications if this is not an installation from an Installer DVD.
3. The installation process should not be interrupted. If a power outage or other interruption occurs during installation you may have to erase the hard drive and reinstall from scratch.
4. Once the installation begins do not use the computer in any way except to reply to dialog prompts or to restart when the installation is completed. This is especially critical during the installation stage known as "Optimizing the System."
System Update Procedure
A. Repair hard drive and permissions.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger or Leopard.) After DU loads select your OS X volume from the list on the left, click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.1 for Leopard) and/or TechTool Pro (4.6.2 for Leopard) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X. Note that Disk Warrior will not work on Intel Macs.
B. Clone your existing system to an external Firewire drive.
How to Clone Using Restore Option of Disk Utility
1. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
2. Select the startup or source volume from the left side list.
3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
4. Drag the startup or source volume to the Source entry field.
5. Select the backup or destination volume from the leftside list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
6. Check the box to Erase Destination. Skip this step if you've already formatted the drive.
7. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
C. Decide upon an installation option.
You have three upgrade options. If you use the Upgrade installation option be sure you have repaired the hard drive and permissions first and made your backup. If you choose the Archive and Install option then you only need to repair the hard drive.
Neither of the above options will erase the disk. Some of your software may not work with a new system. You will need to upgrade those programs. It would be best to do the upgrades to your software before upgrading to the new system version.

Can someone help me? I have already done all of the troubleshoot all the way through actually uninstalling the cc app and downloading it again and still the same b.s. Is this what I paid for?

Help needed to run a power Mac ap on Intel Mac.

Hi, I have a Davis Vantage Pro weather station that ran happily on my old Quicksilver Power Mac. Now I have upgraded to a Mac pro machine running Tiger, the 'Weatherlink' software won't work. Davis, a main player in scientific technologies have not upgraded their Mac software (unbelievably!)
Will Rosetta help here? .... or do I need to get a P.C?

PPC apps run transparently on Intel Macs, however, in your case it may be a matter of incompatibility. The software is simply not compatible with the current versions of OS X. This has nothing to do with Rosetta. You would have the same problem on your QuickSilver were you to upgrade to Tiger.
If you transferred the software using Migration Assistant, then try reinstalling the software on the Intel Mac (but first be sure you fully uninstall the transferred app.)

I've tried reinstalling Creative Cloud in order to clean up my applications folder and all it will do now is spin. Before Uninstalling my apps I was running fine with 2014 apps. Help.

Installation: Blue spinning wheel but no apps showing

Installation: I have just accepted an invitation to join the creative cloud, but when I got to download apps (ie, InDesign) a blue 'spinning wheel' appears and much like the spinning wheel of death... has continued to spin for several minutes. I have shut down my computer, closed all applications, but nothing seems to be working. Does anyone have any other ideas as to why this is happening/what to do?
