Quicksilver question

So I am looking for a good place to find quick silver plugins.
What I really looking for it there a plug-in that let me type in itunes then something like "Rate"
Then let me rate the current song playing, really quick.
I like rating my songs but i don't like opening my itunes every time i want too
I have tried other things like
Right click on the icon in the dock, but since I hide my dock that still goes slow too.
so far the fastest thing for me is.
Command Tab then select itunes then press
command L
then rate with the mouse.
thanks

Hi, Asiago.
By Quicksilver, I presume you mean this application. If that's the case, I suggest you search or post on the Quicksilver Forums. There is a forum there dedicated to "Quicksilver - Add Ons."
Rate This Song is a free AppleScript which"Allows you to assign a rating to the song currently playing in iTunes without leaving the application in which you're working."That may fit your requirements.
Good luck!

  • Quicksilver won't boot: all I get is the question mark

I bought a Quicksilver a couple of days ago; it was running ok until today.
The problems started today; I was running Panther from drive 2, and I noticed that my Classic apps were not able to see that drive; I realised that it was using the system folder in drive 1.
I reset the Classic folder in system preferences, rebooted but the problem remained. I rebooted again, this time from drive 1 which has Tiger; now drive 2 doesn't show on the desktop, but is still visible in system prefs; I select drive 2 from OS 9 folder, and restart.
And from that point on, all I had is the flashing question mark. I tried everything: tried to start holding shift, return, X, C,zapped the PRAM, reset the PMU/cuda, took off the battery, changed drives, nada. It doesn't respond to drives, cds, etc.
I've installed drive 1 in my old Sawtooth, and I'm using it right now; although Istill can't start Classic (seems to be a language issue as my OS 9 is in french and Tiger in english), otherwise it works without a hitch.
Holding the option key gives me a blue screen with a picture of a padlock, an arrow and an input field: typing my password does nothing. I also tried opening the firmware: I get the "mac-boot" prompt all right but again, I keep being asked for a password with everything I enter, and doesn't recognize my password.
It's a dual 1 ghz QS, with drive 2 being a 400G Seagate, and drive 1 a 80G Seagate, presumably the original one. I paid 500$ for it on e-bay: seriously, have I been had?

You said you took out the battery but not if you tried installing a fresh one. Old batteries can cause strange problems and used computers may have sat around for a while before being sold, draining the battery.
If you have a digital multimeter you can check the condition of your present battery. It should read at least 3.2V if it is the 3.6V half-AA battery type. Ideally this should be measured while the battery is under load; added recommendation from Hans777:
I have recently found out that an exhausted battery will still indicate >3.6 V with a high internal resistance VM.
Checking incircuit: powercord disconnected press PMU reset button for >about 5 sec before measuring.
Checking outside: load the battery with a 1500 Ohm resistor when measuring.

  • Panther to Tiger on a QuickSilver - a few questions as always?

    Morning all
The time is at hand - as well as the cash so ...
It looks as those I’ll about to take the plunge by upgrading my Power Mac, G4, “QuickSilver”, 733 MHz with a L2 cache of 256 KB and a bus speed of 133 MHz. It’s Memory is max’ed out at 1.5 GB and it’s Boot ROM is version 4.2.5f1. the CPU is a Power PC G4 (2.1). I looking to take OX x (10.3.9) up to a 10.4 “Tiger” all the way to the current version which I understand is about to be 10.4.7 - better late than never. I’m using the standard fair when it comes to software i.e. Safari, Appleworks and the likes. The unit is used for both personal use as well as running a small business.
Any thing that I should know about before hand or that stands out as a “no no”?
And while I’m at it - does anyone know if SBC Yahoo (now AT&T Yahoo) supports OS X (10.4.6 or 7)? The folks at SBC/AT&T & Yahoo for that matter are ones to latch onto Apple/Mac products with any speed!

    Hi fireguy,
make sure you have the retail full install DVD then follow this procedure: 10.4 Tiger Upgrade: Decision tree+Checklist .
After you upgraded successfully download and apply the Mac OS X 10.4.6 Combo for PPC.
Do not forget: Repair permissions before and after an update!

  • Quicksilver 733 Optical Drive Removal Question

Hello, first post (yay) question I have is, I need to replace my cdrw drive on my quicksilver 733, Do I just need to pop off the front plastic piece to access it? Interior structure looks stationary to me.
I have a couple DvD drives off a HP machine, I assume they would work with no issues?, Ok thanks for any replies!

    Hello unsocial1,
The video is good, but you may want to keep a few other thoughts in mind.
The four screws that attach the optical drive are a little tricky to keep track of, and one or two are a perfect nuisance to replace.
The cables - in my experience - NEVER come off that easily. Usually you have to wiggle a good bit; sometimes you will want to withdraw the optical drive with cable or cables still attached and attack them from where you can get a good grip. Takes a little maneuvering, but it works.
The HP drives should work, but you can't always assume; the perversity of inanimate objects is always a force to be reckoned with! You might want to check the jumper block, though it's probably set right to start with.
    Good luck!

  • Quicksilver cpu fan replacement question

    Hi,
I have 2001 quicksilver 867. The cpu fan had stopped moving. I got it going again by taking it out and moving the fins around, but i'm looking for a replacement.
I found the "OEM" versions but the idea of spending $60 for a fan isn't that appealing.
So i'm considering just getting a standard 3 pin fan, and using an adapter to make it 2 pins.
I was thinking of getting this fan:
    http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?mainpage=product_info&cPath=51&productsid=133
and I noticed they have several "2 pin" fan adapters here:
    http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=289&main_page=index
    So my questions are:
    (1) Will that fan above work well enough for the quicksilver cpu?
    (2) Do you know which 2 pin adapter would fit the logic board, as they have several types. Type A would be my guess but it's hard to tell from the small pictures.
    Thanks!
    David Kiley

I would remove the fan and take it to a local PC store. You should be able to find a reasonably priced replacement at most PC parts retailers.

  • I have a Quicksilver twin 800 mhz and use 4.11. My volumes show a question mark(?) on upper right corner. What is going on ?

I have a Quicksilver twin 800 mhz and use 4.11.
My volumes show a question mark(?) on upper right corner.
    What is going on ?

One other thought: does the question mark go away when you open a folder?
I am beginning to suspect that maybe just right-clicking the Finder window's toolbar and selecting "Customize Toolbar" and then seeing if you can drag the question mark off the tool bar, like there is some phantom item that the Finder can't resolve.
A puzzle.  It definitely has something to do with the Finder toolbar, though.  I'm pretty sure of that at this point.
EDIT:  OK, I recreated the situation.  You can drag an AppleScript to the toolbar so it will always be available.  However, if that AppleScript file goes away, what's left is the dreaded question mark.  The solution is to just drag the question mark off the toolbar while having the "Customize Toolbar" pane open as instructed above.
Well, I learn something new today, and it's only 52 minutes into the day.  My work here is done.
    Now you see it:
    Now you don't:
Actually, you can just right-click on the question mark and select "Remove Item" and it should be gone.

  • After trying to backup  my hard drive i can't get my G4 quicksilver to boot. I get the old icon of a folder with a split face that alternetes with a flashing question  mark

My G4  won't boot. I have tried holding down the c key to boot from a 10.3 disc and it doesn't boot. I keep getting the icon of a folder with a split face that flashes to a question mark. I know that usually means that the startup drive can't be found, but I have 2 good drives i have tried to boot with and it won't start up. Any ideas from out there/ Thanks in advance.

I doubt it's CCC's fault, possibly a bad DIMM, or slot, or corrosion in the slot.
How large is the drive? Which G4? Some can only handle 128-123 GB Drives. Is it an old drive?
So we know more about it...

  • Quicksilver 2002 Question

Will a processor from a (MDD)G4 single or dual work in my Quicksilver 2002, currently with a single 800mhz processor?

Nope. It's too different. That was the first thing I thought of for mine, but it can't happen.

  • Quicksilver CPU upgrade question

Hi, I've got a 733mhz quicksilver G4. I'm looking into upgrading to a dual 800mhz quicksilver cpu. Sound like a plan? I know not to get an mdd cpu as I've heard they won't work in the quicksilvers. Does this sound like a plan, the dual 800mhz?....is it worth it/ do you think I'll see a difference? The only thing this computer is mainly used for is online...it's a clean system, yet with all the moving ads they keep putting on yahoo, weather.com, etc...the single 733mhz is seeming a bit slow...even with a good amount of ram I have in there. Will this swap be a simple one 'pop out, pop in'....or is there anything I need to do since it's a double on mb with originally a single cpu? Thanks for your advice! How do you calculate the cpu speed...i know that this dual 800mhz is not the same as a 1.6ghz, but what would you call it equivalent to? Thanks for your advice-

    Hi-
Any of the Quicksilver CPUs are plug and play/ interchangeable in the QS.
Just get the heatsink with it, as they vary. Dual processors must have a dual processor specific heatsink.
A dual 800 is equivalent to a 800 Mhz processor, except that there are two of them, that's all.
It is better than the QS single 800 MHz processor in that the single doesn't have a L3 cache.
What a dual does for you is to help with multitasking in OS X, speed up dual processor aware software and boost graphics and video handling ability.
A single 933 MHz processor is quite a bit faster than a 800 MHz processor, and way better than the 733 MHz processor due to L3 cache.
However, the dual 800 also has the L3 cache, so it will feel a bunch faster than the 733.

  • G4 quicksilver 867 hard drive question

I am about to replace the internal hard drive, just want to make sure that this will work: Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 160GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache IDE Ultra ATA100
I realize that I will only get 128gb max, was also wondering if 7200.7 would be an issue? Will update system to Tiger with this.
    Thanks.

Hi, Ricordo, and welcome to the Discussions!
First, check the Hardware Overview section of your System Profiler to see what your Mac's Boot ROM version is. If it's indeed a QS Mac and has Boot ROM version 4.3.3f2, it should have built in large drive support. If it's anything else, it does not. If it does, please post back and advise...
If your Mac does not have built-in large drive support, you can add an ATA-133 PCI card to run the drives at their full capacity. Alternately, you can use the Intech ATA Hi- Cap support Driver (which has some limitations on how you must set up the drives). The Driver is $25. I'd recommend the card option as the better way to tackle this. It's more flexible; will provide you with additional, faster, independent drive busses; and will allow you to add more drives, should you desire to do this. Sonnet, Acard, and SIIG make Mac-compatible cards. They run from $70-$80.
If you had formatted your 200GB (slave) drive in another Mac with large drive support or perhaps in a FW enclosure, and then added it to your Mac, it could explain why it formatted to 189GB or so. However, this should not be done. I just hope that you haven't lost any data that may be stored at a location that you may not be able to access now. If you have lost data, I'd try putting the drive back into something that has large drive support and seeing if the whole drive is again accessible, or adding the drive to an ATA-133 PCI card. If it still doesn't show all the files, then I'd download the demo version of Data Rescue II and see if the files can be seen. If they can, then they can be recovered by purchasing the full version of the software. If there are important files there, whatever you do, don't reformat the drive. (This may be another reason to choose a card over the Software driver option I previously mentioned.)

  • Quicksilver CPU questions

I have another Quicksilver 2002 in storage that has no CPU. It was a single CPU model. Does the dual CPU drop right in, or are the boards different between them? I don't see a difference visually except for the chip.
Also, does 10.5.4 work okay on a Quicksilver? Anyone found a way to put Snow Leopard on an older Mac yet?
    Thanks

    Hi-
    All QS processors are interchangeable.
The heatsinks, however, are more processor specific, especially with dual processors.
Other than that, any processor from one QS is plug and play in another QS.
Leopard works just fine on a dual 1.0 GHz QS. I run 10.5.8 on my DP 1.0 GHz and three 933 MHz QS machines.
Snow Leopard will never happen on a PPC Mac.
When running Leopard, a Core Image supporting graphics card is highly desirable.

  • 9800 Pro & Quicksilver cooling questions . . .

I have a 9800 pro inside a Quicksilver with the Zalman FANLESS ZM80D-HP.
The optional fan for this heatsink does not fit inside the quicksilver.
    http://www.zalman.co.kr/ENG/product/Product_Read.asp?idx=135
Since the quicksilver already has a large fan facing the pci, agp and ram, do I still need a fan directly on the above heatsink? Seems like it would not be necessary?
My next choice would be the iceberg5 but why spend the extra, and the above heatsink looks kinda cool in the Quicksilver.

Since the quicksilver already has a large fan facing the pci, agp and ram, do I still need a fan directly on the above heatsink?
In theory, the design of the heatpipe should utilize the existing airflow.
BUT, the 9800 is a very hot GPU, and note #3 of Zalman's compatibility table recognizes this fact.
I've always been curious about the passive coolers on a 9800, but, between the bulk, and the majority of sources saying a fan isn't really optional, I never bothered to take the leap.
Kinda' like all the CPU upgrades for AGP graphics through the QS, they all have fans on the heatsink.
From what I've seen with the CPU's, and feel applies to the heatpipe, is the case fan does not provide a direct enough current of air to maximize cooling. An additional fan is needed to apply airflow specifically to the heatsink.
The case fan is more to keep enough air coming in so that the PSU fans don't have to create a suction/work harder to move air out

  • Sound input options for quicksilver 933 (2002) question.

My little plaintalk microphone does not fit into the audio input of my G4. According to the Specs. for this 'Puter there is no line in provided. I was looking at a Behringer UCA202 USB adaptor, which looks like it may work. I would need to get a splitter for the mike to use the two RCA inputs of the Behringer. - (I guess it's stereo...) The PCI audio cards that I've seen are a little overkill for what I'm after, and much more expensive. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks!!
    Tom

I posted a similar question recently. Somebody recommended a M-Audio card to me but as you are finding they are a bit pricey. I think the bottom line is you get what you pay for. I have seen everything from the thousand dollar PCI cards, to a $2 USB converter thing that looks like a flash drive and takes the 3.5 mm plugs for standard computer headphone and microphones. I am tending towards a less expensive device because I have ancient audio tapes with poor quality, though my respondent pointed out that if you take a poor sound source and record it through a low quality converter then you end up with even more garbage.
There's also a similar thing to the Behringer that is made by Griffin (iMic) at the same price. I don't know how they compare in terms of audio quality, but the iMic uses 3.5 mm jacks which would save you the cost of a converter. In my case I want something to attach to my home stereo so I'm glad you pointed out the Behringer.

  • Quicksilver Approval and a question

So..I only have one credit card (Capital One Platinum $750 limit) that I've been working to pay down the last few months. My FICO scores have increased pretty good over the last couple of months (scores in sig) due to this diligence. I decided that I'd do a few apps today.First, I went for Barclays Rewards Card. I got the 7-10 day notice. Grr! I prequalified for the Discover It card, so I went ahead and applied. I did get an approval (though apparently not for the one I apped for even though I felt good about it from the prequalify on their site), but it didn't tell me the starting limit. Anyone have experience with that? Then, I went on to the Cap One Pre-quals. I was still only being offered Quicksilver One and Platinum. I decided..Nah I don't want the annual fee. Finally, I just checked the mail and I had a Pre-Approval for the Quicksilver. Quickly went online and entered the codes and bam..$3,000 instant! So while the apps started out kinda Meh...I am anxious to see what the limit is on Discover and if Barclays is a go!

Congrats on the Quicksilver and Discover approvals! And for the record, Discover's pre-quals are not reliable at all, thankfully you still got approved even if it wasn't for the terms you were hoping for. Just call them up and ask what your limit is.

  • Quicksilver Powermac G4 DVD drive question, please help!!

Hi Guys I really hope someone can help me.
I have got a Quicksilver powermac G4 (2001) it has only an internal CD drive. I have purchased the lastest tiger series a s cds to be up to date. However, I've the got the computer mainly for recording music. I have Cubase system which requires a dvd drive. Can anyone recommend a external dvd drive I can use that is good enough for my mac and recording. I am frightened to buy an internal drive as I've no idea how to install one.
    Will be so grateful guys,
    Hannah

    Hi
The Pioneer DVR-110D (or newer DVR-111D) is a popular choice, works with Tiger and burns both CDs and DVDs. Here in the UK they cost around £30 and in the States around $40 I think.
The following tips may also help with installation, although most are fairly obvious:
    1. Try and use the right sized screwdriver, one that fits snugly into the screws, so you don't risk chewing up the screw heads.
    2. When you're removing the old drive from the computer, get someone to hold it as you undo the screws and disconnect the cables, so you don't risk it dropping onto the logic board.
    3. The power cable can be a tight fit, so you may need to pry it off the old drive with your finger nails or gently rock it from side to side. Don't pull directly on the cables though.
    4. The power cable and ribbon cable connectors are keyed (or shaped) so they'll only fit one way. If you're having trouble connecting them to the new drive, make sure they're the right way up.
You'll also just need to check the new drive is configured correctly. On the back there should be two rows of pins with a small jumper block. By moving the jumper block between different pairs of pins, you can configure the drive as master, slave or CS (cable select). It needs to be set to master. The drive should come with instructions or have a sticker on it indicating which pair of pins is master.
    I hope this helps.
