Quicktime 10.4 on mac OSX 10.10.2 won't open quicktime 7.6.6 in a website

I have been going to some websites recently trying to see some videos.  Instead of a thumbnail there is a puzzle piece and it says need to download Quicktime 7.6.6 or higher.  I can't view the video.  I am on a Mac desktop using OSX 10.10.2.  The website has at the bottom "Made on a Mac".  Can Quicktime for MAC not recognize Quicktime for Windows?  How can I view these videos?  It's very annoying that I can't open a  Quicktime video when I have a MAC and Quicktime on my computer.

The website has at the bottom "Made on a Mac".  Can Quicktime for MAC not recognize Quicktime for Windows?
Your question makes no sense. Both play multimedia content—there is no need for one to "recognize" the other.
How can I view these videos?
Do as you were instructed. Download and install the older QT 7 player app.
It's very annoying that I can't open a  Quicktime video when I have a MAC and Quicktime on my computer.
The QT X player supports newer, more efficient codecs employing a "closed architecture" while QT 7 supports more codecs using an "open architecture." Basically any user can place encoded data compatible with his or her system's codec configuration in an MOV (QT generic file container. Unless you have the same codec support available, you cannot play such files. I.e., the site you visited may be using legacy or third-party codecs not supported by the Yosemite QT X embedded structures but which are supported by Yosemite's QT 7 embedded structure.

  • I re-installed my Mac OS, but now Elements won't open. Licensing stopped working. Error code 150:30

I re-installed my Mac OS, but now Elements won't open. Licensing stopped working. Error code 150:30.
This is Photoshop Elements 8, and I have the original disc with serial number so I can re-install that.
The probelm is I'd need to de-cactivate the serial number before un-installing, and I need to open the programme to do that.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

Okay, I've found that this is a recognised problem.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/error-licensing-stopped-mac-os.html
Error "Licensing has stopped working" | Mac OS
and all the solutions tell me to find the folder FlexNet Publisher in my library.
Problem is FlexNet Publisher doesn't seem to exist there. Can't find it anywhere on my hard drive.
Gettting down to the end of that page gives me the following info....
The FlexNet folders and files required to run Adobe applications can become corrupted or have permission problems if moved from one machine to another. They can also be damaged through a Time Machine system restore. FlexNet service licensing failures cannot be resolved by reinstalling the application or by using the Adobe CS5 Cleaner Tool. If permissions issues prevent the FlexNet licensing service from launching, accessing data, or communicating with Adobe processes, a licensing failure occurs.
Well it looks like backing everything up using Time Machine may have caused all this problem. Anyone know how to get Flexnet Publisher back?

  • HT1529 just loaded Mountain lion, went to about this mac to see if worked, won't open (about this mac)

just loaded Mountain lion, went to about this mac to see if worked, won't open (about this mac)  About this Mac is listed, nothing happens when I click on it.

I opened System Profiler by launching it from Utilities.
It comes up with a different name to the admin name though. Maybe that's why it won't open from "About this Mac"?
For example, the computer's name when I set it up using the USB installer stick is "Harry Potter".
But the old MBA that I had was named "js".
When I install programs, it comes up with "Harry Potter", put in password.
However, when I look up the System Profiler information using Utilities, it comes up with "js's MacBook Air (2)".
    Does that matter?
Is the name thing causing the problem with the "About This Mac" not opening?
I am really confused about all of this.
The information in the System Profiler is about the newer MBA.
Should I just not worry about this problem? And just open it up from Utilities if I need to look up System Profiler information?

  • Mac OSX install disc 1 won't work, it says "no bootable device" and a black screen

My macbook came already with snow leopard, so I have the osx install disc and the applications install disc. So I'm meant to put in the osx (ie install disc 1) install disc which lets me install bootcamp, which I do, and click on "start the windows installer" and "start installation" in bootcamp assistant, however every time I restart the computer to try installing bootcamp it just says in white letters across a black screen "no bootable device" and "insert boot disc", which I have already done!!
Am I missing something really dumb here, or is my disc faulty?

    From this guide
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/Boot_Camp_Install-Setup_10.6.pdf
Step 4: Install the Boot Camp Drivers for WindowsAfter installing Windows, install Mac-specific drivers and other software forWindows using your Mac OS X installation disc.
The Mac OS X disc installs drivers to support Mac components, including AirPort,built-in iSight camera, the Apple Remote, the trackpad on a portable Mac, and thefunction keys on an Apple keyboard.
The Mac OS X disc also installs the Boot Camp control panel for Windows and theApple Boot Camp system tray item.
To install the Boot Camp drivers:
1  Eject the Windows installation disc.
2  Insert the Mac OS X disc.
You have to be running your Windows OS (not Mac OSX) when you add the drivers from the Mac Install disk.

  • Itunes still won't open, quicktime error

I have followed all of the instructions to delete itunes and Quicktime from my computer. I went into the local drive and deleted them and I went to the control panel and deleted them. I have emtied my recycle bin and restarted my computer, but when I try to download the itunes software it still says " old version of quicktime cannot be deleted, itunes needs quicktime, download incomplete" Please help.
    PC   Windows XP

" old version of quicktime cannot be deleted, itunes needs quicktime, download incomplete"
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC:

  • Installed new version of Mac OS x and iWeb won't open

I installed new version of Mac OS x last night and iWeb won't open

I spent an exhausting night testing programs after updating. My iWeb works as expected after the update. No network problems whatsoever. You may want to see if you are connected to the internet. iWeb opens incredibly slowly when there is no connection. Try opening Safari and see if you are surfing normally.
Lion hides the Library folders, probably so users can't mess with them. I downloaded the latest beta of Onyx and was able to get the Library folders to show again.
The only problem I had were some font issues. Do you have a font manager installed? Lion installs its font program and it is set to automatically activate fonts. I turned all autoactivation off.
Lion has no Rosetta and Power PC programs are no longer supported. Do you have the newest version of iWeb installed? I also have been updating my Mac constantly. You may want to run software update and make sure all your programs are current.

  • Since updating Firefox to 6.0, my Quicktime Pro on Mac OSX 10.6.8 won't allow me to save MP3s, although I can listen to them on the page.

I recently updated Firefox to 6.0 and it quit allowing me to save any mp3s downloaded to the page, although I can still play them in Firefox.
For a very brief time, I was able to save them after the update, and I believe it has something to do with bit rate, as I was asked whether I wanted to increase the bit rate. I clicked yes, but didn't take note of whether it was 32, 64 or something else.
Next time I restarted Firefox, it went back to the original setting and I don't know how to change it. I even purchased another copy of Quicktime to see if that would help, but it didn't.
I'm also having this problem in Safari, so it's probably a Quicktime fix, rather than Firefox, but if there's anything you can tell me, I'd really appreciate it.
Apparently, there are third-party Quicktime softwares that will help, but I don't know what they are or what they do. Can you help, please?

If you upgrade to Lion it comes bundeled with it!
To get it on your Mac Pro just copy the aplication from the aplication folder on your MacBook.  You can do this via a thumb drive or over a local network connection.

  • Installing Mac OSX for first time, can't open drive

Help! I'm desperate. I just purchased a twin to my Power Mac G4 from a reseller on eBay, but it has no operating system. I have an OSX disc to install, but how do I get the drive open to insert the install disc?
My original machine is wonderful, but I bought it from the Apple Store, and I think the OS was pre-installed, so this is new to me.
Any help would be greatly, greatly appreciated.

Boot the system with the Option key held down. When the cursor changes to an arrow, use ⌘. (Command-Period) to open the optical drive, insert the disk, close the drive with ⌘. and click the curved arrow to make it look for the new disk. When the cursor changes to the arrow, select the install disk and click the straight, right-opinting, arrow to boot from the install disk.

  • Security update Flash version for Mac OSX 10.5.8 won't install

I lost my ability to view Ustream live streaming and recorded videos on Sept. 12, 2013, in both Safari and Firefox. The screen is solid black, and if I right click I get "Movie not loaded..." I read about the Sept.10 Security Update for Flash Player, so I uninstalled version fp_10.3.183.90 and attempted to install version fp_11.7.700.242. The installation failed every time, so I returned to the older one. On Sept. 13 I downloaded Google Chrome and it worked, but today, Sept. 14, I see the message "Flash is out of date," and no video.
I have a Macmini2,1 with 1 Intel Processor and 2 Cores, made in 2007, I think. OS Leopard, 10.5.8 (64-bit). My Safari is version 5.0.6, Firefox 9.0.1 and Chrome 21.0.1180.90.
I spend a lot of time on Ustream, so this is a big setback... please help!

Firefox is on version 23.1 now (I believe it WILL run on Leopard), and Chrome is on 29 (I can't be sure of that because I've uninstalled it from EVERY LAST machine I own and will NEVER use it again).
THAT may have something to do with it. Safari 5 is the newest that will run on 10.5, and unfortunately the LATEST Flash Player WON'T run on Leopard.
The reason is that OS 10.5 was the LAST Universal Binary OS Mac released (it runs on Intel or Power PC Macs) Becaue of that, it uses a different acrhitecture and the Flash Player is different from an "Intel only" build. Websites will continue to update, requiring the latest Player, and that will lead to obsolescence of your Flash Player (and your OS). THAT'S the bad news.
The GOOD news is: Because your Mac is Intel powered, you can upgrade to Snow Leopard (OS 10.6.8) for $20 through Apple (http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard), and THAT will allow you to run a LOAD of software that requires 10.6 or newer.

  • New to Mac :), OSX 10.4.3 won't recognize my external hard drive!!

    Please help,
I just bought a new mac (powermac g5 2ghz, 1gb ram) and i have two external hard drives plugged in and they are not showing up anywhere? Do i need a specific driver? I am downloading the update for 10.4.3 (combo) even though i already have 10.4.3 because i read this might fix it, but it seems to take forever to download, in the meantime, any advice?
    Thanks in advance!
    Jana

i just read this on macfixtit and reinstalled 10.4.3 using the combo update and it worked for me.
    Solutions
Reverting to a previous version of Mac OS X Though it is a relatively tedious and time-consuming workaround, downgrading to an earlier version of Mac OS X (preferably Mac OS X 10.4.2) as described in our tutorial "Reverting to an earlier version of Mac OS X" is an almost fail-safe solution to this problem.
Re-applying the Mac OS X combo updater Despite a lack of success for some users with this workaround, re-applying the Mac OS X 10.4.3 combo updater continues to resolve this issue for many.

  • Lost Firefox on my mac osx 10.5.8. won't download. Any ideas?

I try to boot it up and get the message: you cannot open the application firefox because it is not supported on this architecture. What do I do now?

New versions of Firefox do not support for Power/PC (PPC) processors. Firefox 3.6 supports PPC and Intel Macs. Firefox 4 and up requires an Intel Mac and is built for both 32-bit and 64-bit CPUs.
    http://www.mozilla.org/firefox/system-requirements.html
There is a separate project called TenFourFox that brings an unoffical version of Firefox 7 to older Macs. I don't use it or a Mac myself, so I can't vouch for it, but you might want to give it a try.
