QuickTime 10 and DivX?

Hi,
I'm running QuickTime 10 in Snow Leopard, and I installed Perian in order to play the movies from my camcorder that I encoded as .divx (to save space) in Leopard.
However, even though they used to play in QuickTime on slow Leopard, they don't play on Snow Leopard anymore... their icon is no longer a movie icon, and I can't open them!
What do I do?
Should I wait for an update for Perian, or QuickTime? Where's the problem?

There's ongoing discussion about the topic in this thread on the Perian forums. There doesn't appear to be a definitive answer/fix at this time. I'm guessing that Perian will need an update, though I'm not knowledgeable enough about the APIs in the new structure of QuickTime to know for sure.

  • Quick Time Pro and DivX on PC

    Hi Guys
I have QuickTime Pro and DivX on Win XP Pro. I need to output some divX files from a .mov file in QTP but cannot seem to find that as an option even though I have downloaded the full divX too. Is this only available on the Mac or am I missing something?
    Many thanks

  • AVI and DIVX Plyaback in Quicktime

Is it possible? I'd like to export some of my movies that I have in avi/Divx format to MPEG4 format to fit on the video Ipod. I've read that Quicktime plays AVI files, but when I open them it's just a white screen and no sound or bad sound. Do I need a plugin or codec to view these files?
Also, if I purchase the Quicktime MPEG2 Package, will it let you play DVD files from the hard drive. I have several of my movies backed up onto the drive, but they are in DVD format and not a single AVI file.

This is exactly what is happening to me. I used AoA DVD Ripper to rip my DVD's using a DivX codec. These are .AVI files. I purchased QuickTime Pro 7 in an effort to convert these .AVI files to either MPEG-4 or MOV files to watch on my new 5th generation iPod. I too, get a white screen in the player. I also got a pop-up window that indicated that I was missing some QuickTime components and it took me to Apple's third-party software vendor site to look at some possible downloads. However, it didn't give me a clue as to what to download to get this to work.
I did find this link on Apple's website indicating that you can add DivX to Quicktime:

  • Quicktime and Divx and MPEG 2

    Hi,
After months of nagging from my IT colleagues I have just bought a Mac mini with Leopard and am just getting to grips with how it functions. (very impressed to date now I have a "proper operting system" :o) )I am using it in my lounge connected to my Plasma TV. I have 4 other Windows XP machines which share all their "My Documents" on a Buffalo Link Station which is backed up to Buffalo Drivestation. I am looking for similar functionality to WMP 11 and would like to know if there is any way that Quicktime can show DIVX's and MPEG2's in the file list so I can use Frontrow from teh remote as the interface is so slick. I have the MPGE2 codec and DIVX installed. The MPEG codec does show lines (maybe interlacing) with any sideways movement when viewing my my raw MPGE2 cam corder videos. This doesn't happy with XP and WM11 however I can live with that as the MAc Mini is more convenient than a PC in the lounge.
Maybe I need something other than Quicktime? I was a bit nervous about posting here for the first time incase I get "abuse" but my other Mac users assure somebody will know the answer. I have some other questions so I'll post these on the site in the relevent areas now I'm registered.
    Cheers in advance.

If these Mpeg-2 videos are going to be on your hard drive. Look into this player, VLC. You can have a playlist of your videos. The de-interlacing is great! It can all so play Divx and dvd's. It's free Here's VLC site...
    http://www.videolan.org/
If your going to play Divx in Quicktime I would get this component (Perian) for Quicktime... This component will play Divx better in Quicktime (and other formats that Quicktime can't pay).

    This will get you started...

  • Playing AVI and DivX files

I've recently bought a Mac Book and am struggling to play AVI and DivX files. What seemed so easy on my old PC now seems impossible on my Mac.
I've looked at the past forums and tried a few past suggestions, but nothing works. I've tried downloading DivX for Mac with all the codecs, VLC Media Player, Perian and I've even tried coverting through DivX Doctor II.
    What am I doing wrong?

I don't think this fixes your problem but it at least keeps the thread going until someone with the answer posts. The one thing you didn't mention was fip4mac. I don't know it those others cover what it does or not. If you have downloaded the file you can control click on the file and select get info. When that comes us select open with. Change what ever that is to QuickTime. Sometimes that lets you view some files. I feel your pain, the change over takes a little time. Hang in there mate, it will be worth it.

  • Newbie mc user, needs basic .wmv  and DivX file advice

    Hi,
first post here, new mac user of only 1 month standing! Sorry to display such ignorance...
er... what software do I need to play .wmv (I presume that will need some form of conversion) and DivX media files on my mac??
sorry if this is totally basic stuff, but any help would be most gratefully received!

A company called Flip4mac makes a free WMV component for Quicktime. (Which means that after you install it, Quicktime can play WMV files.)
Divx has a similar component for Quicktime, which is also free.
A great source for finding this kind of thing is http://www.versiontracker.com/
A quick search there for divx and wmv will take you right to the programs you need.

    Did you remove Quicktime X?
On a normal install Quicktime 7 is installed in the Utilities folder and Quicktime Pro in the main Applications folder.
You will need to reinstall OS X to get Quicktime X back if you have deleted it.
I notice yor profile says 10.5.8. Quicktime X is only available on 10.6 and above.

Hello everybody. I am trying to reinstall my Quicktime 7 Pro after having my MacBook OSX 10.5.8 cleaned out following a hacking. I have Quicktime player and I reregistered with the purchased registration code for Quicktime 7 pro. It seems to be successfully registered with "Quicktime 7 Pro" appearing under the inserted registration code but it is not showing in Applications folder and I do not know how to access it or what to do. Thanks for reading this. I hope you can help me. Aidan from Dublin, Ireland.

Inapplicable advice removed; misread the OS version.

Open your QuickTime control panel (either via the Control panels, or by going "Edit > Preferences > QuickTime Preferences" in the Quicktime Player). In the Advanced tab, uncheck Enable Direct3D video acceleration:
... and click OK. Quit and restart the QuickTime Player prior to checking to see if the settings change has had any effect.

  • I've lost quicktime pro and can't find it. I had to re-install my HD and now QT Pro has gone and I can't find details of when I bought it.

I'm 10.6.8 and I use a Macbook Pro. I bought QT pro a while ago and since I've re installed my stuff all I've got is QT and I need the older version (that I paid for) to edit.
Any help will be much appreciated.

It's not the player I need
QuickTime Pro is not a separate application, so you won't find it by searching your system or by looking for a download. A Pro key just unlocks the extra features of QuickTime Player and the QuickTime browser plugin. You need the QuickTime Player 7 Kirk and I have referred to; only that version can be "unlocked" with a Pro key.
I can't find that either. I've trawled my email and can't find it.
Log into your account in the Apple Store and click on the Downloadable Software Purchases link. You should find the key shown there. If not, you may need to purchase a new key.

  • I have never been able to open Quicktime attachments on my MacBook Air. I have made sure that Quicktime 7 and Quicktime 7 Pro are installed. Still no luck opening Quicktime MV files. I called Apple Support and they had no solution.

Quicktime attachments marked MV will not open ion my MacBook Air. I have Quicktime 7 and Quicktime Pro installed. I caled Apple Tec support and they were unable to solve the problem. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Click on one of those files, then go to Get Info in Finder: select what application should open such files.

  • I bought QuickTime Pro, and have QuickTime 7.1, but QTP won't run...

I bought QuickTime Pro, and have QuickTime 7.1. I have already registered QuickTime Pro, but when I try to use it, my computer just says I have QT 7.1 installed. I can't use and of the features of QTP. I followed the installation directions, but I must be missing a step because my computer has no clue that I own QTP! (Also, when I try to Export a video, it says that I need to install QuickTime Pro, which I've already installed...)

Have you attempted to re-enter your registration information? Or does it not allow you to do this?
Secondly, have you tried uninstalling Quicktime, then reinstalling it via the Control Panel or QuickTime Start Menu Group?

  • Why do videos look so bad in QuickTime X and look good in everything else?

Why do videos look so bad in QuickTime X and look good in everything else?
Any way around this or is this something apple needs to fix?

    OK, videos!
    What kind of videos?
Have you tried using Quicktime Player 7?
Mac OS X 10.6 includes QuickTime versions 10.0 and 7.6.3. The QuickTime 7 player will only be present if a QuickTime Pro key was present at the time of installation, or if specified as part of a custom install, or individually downloaded.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/dl923
Snow Leopard update 10.6.4 included an update to 7.6.6 (if installed). You can install it from the above link even though it says for 10.6.3. It's the same version of QuickTime Player 7.6.6.
Only QuickTime Player 7.6.3 or 7.6.6 can be updated to "Pro".

  • Quicktime Pro and getting videos off the web

I am bound and determined to get videos off the web and use them to make my own videos and what not. I was wondering if quicktime pro is the best program to use for my project. I have downloaded other programs that don't work and I am sick of the hassle. If there is a sure thing program anyone knows about, I'd love to know. Otherwise, it would be great to hear about quicktime pro and it's adeptness or otherwise at successfully getting videos off the web.

Okay I figured out how to do that, but once it is downloaded, I am still having trouble. I don't know which application to use to open the file. Quicktime won't open it because it says it's not a movie file. I downloaded a standalone player and that couldn't open it either. What do I do?

  • I have purchased Quicktime Pro and can't enter key!

I am using a windows vista PC, I have downloaded Quicktime 7 and then gone on to purchase the key for Quicktime pro. However! I can not find the QuickTime 7 Control Panel within my computer's control panel or anywhere else on the system for that matter! When I checked my windows XP PC to compare, I found the quicktime control panel straight away! Is this problem relating to the PC having Vista as an operating system, and if so is there a way round it as I really need to set up pro on my Vista machine.
thank you in advance for anyone who can help, this is making my head hurt!

Make sure you're entering in both the user name and key code exactly as in the email Apple sent you. Any error in either, including leaving off a salutation (for instance, if the email says "Mr. John Smith") will cause the registration to error.
Also make sure you purchased a key for the correct platform (Windows or Mac). QuickTime keys are not cross-platform.
