Quicktime 10: How to resize a video before exporting it to AppleTV

I have a video (some film from TV) that I want to export to Apple TV. Unfortunately the ratio is not really 16:10. It is a little bit "distorted". So I want to change the high of the movie a little bit before I start the export. How is this possible with the new Quicktime 10 in Snow Leopard ? I remember that this was possible in older versions of Quicktime - Do I need a "Pro" version for this purposes ?
Thanks support!

I now recognize one strange behaviour: I imported the movie into iMovie. In the preview window the movie has this black border on both the left and right side. Then I moved the movie from the events mediathek into the project mediathek on the bottom of iMovie. The preview now shows the movie without the black borders .... ?? I am now trying to export it into iTunes for AppleTV. Hopefully the borders are still not there and the ratio is correct ...

  • How to resize the video in Compressor?

Hi all, my first post here,
I just know  we can't optionaly resize the video in Final Cut Pro and
using the compressor can resovle this problem,
It's not very convenient to resize the video in FCP.
i wanna ask how can i  resize the video in compressor
    Thanks a lot

First, you should carefully think why you'd need to resize. You can export from FCP X to the standard sizes, both HD and SD. Do you really need some nonstandard size?
Keep in mind that usually you'll get the best quality if you edit in the desired final size, rather than resizing afterwards.
If you do need to create a video in some nonstandard size, like, say 1080x1920 (i.e. in "portrait" form), there is a way to do it:
    http://library.creativecow.net/articles/payton_t/FCPX_Custom-Resolution-Timeline s/video-tutorial
With Compressor you have many pre-made defaults for different kinds of devices. Also, you can export to Quicktime and tweak the settings to get a desired size.
1-Drag one of the existing settings (in the example below, I used SD 480p)
    2-Select it
3-In the Inspector, select the "Geometry" tab
4-Choose "Custom" and enter the desired size.
5-Change the other properties (such as codec, under the "Encoder" tab), as needed
5-Choose "Save As..." and save it (give a suggestive name, say "Portrait") so that you can later reuse it as needed.

  • How do I delete videos before they are downloaded?

I purchased a season of a tv show and it came with a behind the scenes with each episode but it takes up too much data and memory so I don't want to download them. The problem is I can't seem to be able to delete them from "downloads" section of my iTunes. I did do it once before so I know it can be done but for the life of me I can't do it again. Can anyone help?

    Try this:
    1. Sign out of Apple ID
    2. Reboot iPad
    3. Sign in Apple ID
    Settings>iTune & App Stores>Apple ID

  • How do I resize/crop video on Export

I can only seem to work within a 720x480 workspace yet I am importing a 320x240 video which I want to edit and export at 320x240.
    Is this possible?
    Thanks,
    J.E. Flynn

    Thanks Tom and i5m,
    I will try these suggestions.
Tom, as far as recompression I am exporting uncompressed and then doing final compression in Sorenson Squeeze which also has a crop tool I believe.
The problem is having to export a 720x480 movie that is 5 minutes long is ALOT bigger file size wise than a 320x240 size... Just added wait time on export and eats up HD space. Kind of a drag.
    Thanks again guys,

  • I am trying to export a video from Premiere Pro.  I have both audio and video checked and the sequence is active but only the audio exports.  There is no video at all.  Can anyone tell me how to get the video to export.  It was working fine until today.

Premiere Pro CC has been working fine until today.  I have completed my sequence and it is active.  I have both audio and video checked when I am exporting using H.264 with Match Source Hi bitrate.  I am choosing entire sequence.  The audio exports but the video and title does not.  Can anyone tell me how to troubleshoot this so I can complete this project?  Please!

    Greetings,
I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.
    Good Luck - Cheers,
    M.

  • How to stream iTunes videos without storing them on AppleTV or iPod?

I have several iTunes high res videos (very large files) that I would like to stream to my AppleTV, but not store them on the AppleTV or iPod. How do I mark these videos in iTunes so this happens while still allowing other videos to be stored locally on the AppleTV and iPod? Another possibility is setting up AppleTV so its HD acts as a FIFO buffer for streamed video. As it is now, the AppleTV fills with stuff in my iTunes library until it's full. Yes, I know I can set priorities for movies, TV shows and podcasts, but this doesn't help. These HiRes files download as podcasts, but should be given priority, storage wise, over all other podcasts.
 20" Intel iMac + Cinema Display + Sony HDR-HC7 HD camera   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   All tools, no talent!

if i understand what you are asking in itunes go to the apple tv device and under movies elect not to sync all or any of the movie listed in itunes.
it's also possible in itunes to add movie from whatever location and choose to not import them into itunes, it you want to keep some on a different disk. dragging them in will cause them to show up, but they will remain in the orginal location.
    good luck

  • How to FCE file sizes before export?

Hey, I've been making short movies each day and I have to upload them on deadline but I've been late twice now b/c the file sizes were so large that they couldn't upload in time. Is there anyway to know how large the QT movie will be before I export the project? That way, I won't have any more wasted effort to include things that I later have to cut due to file size and countdown to deadline. Thanks!
My project have been in the way of 31-65 MB and they take at least 30 minutes to upload to our cms.

Unfortunately there's no way to know what the file size will be before you export. 35-60MB is actually not bad for a movie file, but if you need it smaller play with the FCE compression settings.

  • How do i resize my video in photoshop ess 13

can anyone help please need to know how to resize my videos for sending in an e-mail  thanks

In the menu, under Image is a choice to Resize.  But that is not what you want to do because it changes the "dimensions" of the image.
Instead, you want to File > Save As, pick JPEG and there will be a choice for "Quality" with a slider.  You may have to try it a couple times to see if you are getting an appropriate file size for your email system.

  • How to resize video to fit in safe area in Adobe Encore

    Hi guys,
Is there any way that my 1024x768 quicktime video be resized to fit the safe area (without using premiere to re-render) using Adobe encore? I've been looking for a solution as to how I can resize my video because when I play it on a dvd player some areas get cropped out and they actually do have inline text. Thing is, I can't edit the video anymore so the only file I have is the 1024x768 one and re-rendering it again via premiere will really take a long time since it's a 30 minute video. Thanks heaps

Exporting to AVI will lead to one generation loss for all the parts that need rendering. The advantage of doing it this way is you can let Encore decide on the best encoding settings. The drawbacks are the generation loss (which is nearly unnoticeable) and the fact that you only have 2.0 sound. If you have the Surcode plug-in and export from PP you avoid the generation loss and can export 5.1 sound. Both advantages, but it requires some careful planning and the use of a bitrate calculator to get the best settings for your movie. However if your movie is less than one hour just encoding at 8 Mbps CBR negates that. The calculator is only necessary for movies longer than one hour.
Another disadvantage of exporting to AVI is the added storage requirement and the extra time to create it.

  • How can I convert video in a WMA format to play in QuickTime Pro?

I have installed my QuickTime Pro, but cannot play any of my videos that I already have stored on my computer. They are all in the WMA format. Is there anyway I can convert these files to play in Quicktime Pro? I also cannot figure out how to download a video from my digital video camera into QuickTime Pro. Can you help me with this? Additionally, I cannot figure out how to download from my digital camera into QuickTime Pro. All of these functions I would like to do, are so I can take these videos & pictures and download them to my IPOD. HELP - thanks Mike Mirsch

    Hi again Mirsch,
I have Mac OS X and I have Quicktime 7.1 Pro.
I know that you can record a movie by making a new movie recording. Use the fire-wire connection to do this and have you camera in playback or deck mode. This is probably not the best way to import video to your pc. I say this because it might not be a lossless ingest of video (depending on your quicktime preferences>recording settings.
Try saving your dv video onto your pc using a program like premier (i use iMovie and Final Cut Express).
    Good luck,

  • Embeding video in WAP site with Quicktime but how to meaure hits on it

    Hey All,
I embedded the quicktime video object in WAP site but I want o know how can I measure hits or downloads on this video. Can i call java script and it does the necessary, is somebody dealt with such thing previously please help or suggest me the way
    Thanks
    Chetan

I don't know what WAP is... Wireless Application Protocol or how to use it.
You might be able to use javascript to count how many time the video page is accessed. But not necessarily how many times the video has be played.
On my server I can access a control panel that tells me how many time a page has be accessed. It will all so tell me how many times a video has be loaded and played.
Let's see if anyone here knows about Wireless Application Protocol and how to use it and maybe how to do what you need...

  • How to fix Flash Player buffering entire video before playing?

I am using the most up to date version of flash (16.0.0.305), windows 7, and the problem persists across all browser (IE, firefox, chrome). Today all flash videos are buffering the entire video before playing and i can't seem to figure out how to fix it. I've gone through the entire troubleshooting from Video playback issues (i.e. clearing caches, re installing chrome, re-installing flash, etc.) and nothing seems to change it. Youtube and other premium streaming services (ex. netflix) work fine which suggests the streaming problem is specific to flash. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I tried uninstall and re install both Flash Player and Chrome it self but nothing changed.
I also noticed that when i try to download something on chrome (this is the browser i use for everything), for example a movie trailer from Apple's trailer site (for example this movie trailer iTunes Movie Trailers) i right click and press Save As, it does nothing after that and after let's say some seconds the window pops up asking me where to save it, and i save it. That means that when i press "Save As" it does starts downloading in the background (like the first post in this thread states) and only wneh it finishes downloading the Chrome pop up window appear. When it should pop immediatelly asking me where to save it the moment i right click something and press Save As. At least that what i used to do before THIS whole problem started......
    Any thoughts...??????
    Please i am desperate......

  • How long can the iPhone 3GS record video before the battery runs out?

My father invested in an iPhone 3GS Tripod adapter for his tripod, for some conferences and lectures. He has a 16GB 3GS, which will record about 8.6 hours, according to another thread I've read about on here. But he doesn't really want to bring the USB/Adapter cable with him, and have to worry about finding a power outlet. Assuming his phone is on full charge, and bluetooth/wifi are shut off, and brightness is kept a bit dim (not too dim) - can anyone give me a round about answer of how long the it will record video before the battery dies? This function is today, so timing is critical. I will have him take the charger/usb with extension cable just in case. I'd appreciate anyones input

Not sure if the battery will die before or after your done recording on the iPhone. But most sites are claiming that you can record up to 2GB per video.I just recorded a one minute clip, and it rounded off to about 34MB.So if you devide that,it rounds off to around an hour of recording video...But take that with a grain of salt,I'm not good with math lol
